Xavier
I’m at home in the study; it was once my father's office when he was alive but has been collecting dust since his death. I am rummaging through books of werewolves history, hoping to find something recorded about bonds between witches and wolves. The need to go to her, to protect, keeps growing, but I don’t want it; I don’t want her. We must find a way to sever this bond.
I grab the tenth book flipping through the pages, nothing. F**k, I toss the book across the room, my anger surging. That witch better figures this out. I run my hand through my hair before walking over to the book and picking it back up.
Knock
Knock
Knock
I sigh sharply before asking
“Who is it?”My voice rolls through the room like thunder. The door opens slightly, Keira sticks her head in.
“It’s me, babe; everything ok?” She opens the door and smiles and saunters over to me, thee wraps her arms around.
“ Grrr Grrr,” Silas starts growling immediately, which is a new thing. He didn’t do before that witch and her dreams.
“ Shut up!” I shout at him, causing Keira to jump back; she looks at me, terrified.
“Babe?”
“ Not you, Silas.”I pull her back into my arms; she feels familiar, comfortable, unlike that...that witch. I scowl at her smell, Silas whimpers. Mine! He shouts Mine. She isn’t fucking yours, and she surely does not belong to me.
“Baby,” Keira says sweetly, pulling me from my fight with the wolf. She kisses my chin then strokes my face as I try to put that witch out of my head. “You’ve been worked up these last couple of days.” She rubs her hands along my chest, down my abs then grabs the brand between my thighs.
“ Let me help you release some.”I grin as I grab her by her waist, spin, and put her on the desk. I ease myself between her thighs then lean in to kiss her.
“ Grrr Grr” The damn wolf begins again. Shut up, Silas! I shout mentally; I feel his presence fade. Great, now where was I? I grab her face and press my lips against hers; I need to touch her. To feel her, I need to know that what we have is real. She moves her hands to my buttons. Our lips part temporarily as I step back to remove my shirt. I toss it to the side and then capture her lips again; she is breathing heavy and moans softly as my hands slide under her shirt.”
“Mine! Silas shouts; my head hurts like something drops a block on it. I pull away from Keira and clutch my head, Silas what the f**k was that?
“I didn’t, my Luna. She’s in danger.”I’ll ignore you calling her your Luna; what kind of danger is she in?
“Look!”My eyes slam shut; I’m in the woods, I can feel the cold air!
“Xavier!”She screams, calls my name, my heart racing as if I’m running. Elina! I see her running. She looks terrified; my chest tightens. The overwhelming need to go to her fills my being.
“ Ahhhhhh!”She screams, then silence follows.
“Elina! Elina!” Everything is silent; my eyes snap open as my heart pounds; I growl as Silas growls. Then a searing pain ripples through our bodies; she’s hurt. I must go to her; I must protect her.
“Why are you calling that bitch’s name?” Keira asks, scowling. I grab my shirt.
“She’s in danger. I have to find her.” I explain, hoping the woman I have been with forever will understand my need to protect another.
“The witch has a mouth on her, so she’ll always get in trouble. Why is it your business? Let her die.” She growls.
“ No! Mine!!!!!!!!”I growl through gritted teeth pushing Keira away, her face marred with anger and terror. I don’t even know what that was, but I don’t have time to think about it right now.
“Silas!”
“ Yes”
“Where is she?”
“I’ll take you.” hurry across the room about to leave.
“You’re not going anywhere,” Keira announces as she stands at the door and blocks it.
“Keira, I have to go.”
“To that witch, not if I have any say it this.”
“ I don’t have time for this; I’ll be back; I have to make sure she’s ok.”I push her away from the door.
“ If you leave, you can forget about us being together.” I stop and turn to her, I have taken her back after multiple times of her cheating on me, but she wants to end it because of this. I’m about to say this to her, but Silas shouts again.
“Mine!”He growls; I feel her as if all her power is rushing through me. Then I hear her voice screaming words I cannot understand, a surge of power shots through all at once and then nothing. I feel nothing; I can’t feel her anymore.
“Silas!”I rush downstairs and tear of my clothes, then shift into my wolf form. We race throw the forest in search of her.
“Is she close?”
“We’re almost there.”My thoughts are racing; why was she attacked? Who or what attacked her, but most of all, I hope she’s ok. As we get closer, I smell the faint smell of lilac and oranges, her smell, but it’s overpowered by blood. We speed up until I can see her or what appears to be her, but someone is beside her. We approach slowly.
“You’re stronger than you look,” Eric says as we approach. Him! What is he doing here? Silas growls. We jump between him and her; we nuzzle her unconscious body with our nose; Silas whimpers as our heart races. We have to get her help quickly. I shift back to my human form and feel her pulse; it’s strong. She’s unconscious, though, and her leg has bike marks and is covered in blood; I pick her up in my arms, Silas whimpers. She’s ok; she’s going to be okay. My heart pounds as I inhale her smell, home. I turn to leave but stop and turn to face the new kid; I don’t know him, nor do I trust him, especially his attempts to get close to Elina, which pisses me off more than I want to admit. Every time I see him, he’s trying to cozy up to her at lunch while hiding his scent.
“What the f**k are you doing here?” I demand immediately. He pretends to be shocked.
“Ah, ah, I don’t know, you just changed from a wolf to a man.”
“ Cut the act; I can smell you from a mile away, wolf. Now I’m going to ask you again, and depending on your answer, you might not get to live; why the f**k are you here?” I growl again, ready to rip out his throat.
“I was just out for a run, and I hide my scent, so what not everybody goes around annoying themselves as the big bad wolf, like you.”I glare at him; if I didn’t have her in my hands, I would rip his throat out.
“You just happened to stumble here of all places?”
“Yes.” He says simply, which doesn’t ease my blood lust. He was just standing over her, not even trying to help her. I take a step towards
“Xavier.” I stop when she whispers, my heart skips a beat.
“ Elina! Elina! I shake her, but she’s unconscious once again; I have to get her some help. Her mother, I have to get her home.
“If she tells me you’re responsible for this when she wakes up, I’ll rip your throat out. I growl then press her tightly against me before I begin to run in the direction of her house. Silas is faster, but I can’t carry her on wolf form. I dash through trees and shrubs, heart pounding. Why am I so worried? I shouldn’t care. I hate her; it must be this stupid bond we have.
Ten minutes later, I run up the steps of her house and knock on the door multiple times. No one comes, I knock again. The door swings open
“Who is... Elina!” Her mother shouts when she sees her in my arms.
“She was attacked.” I try to explain.
“Come in, come in!” I rush in, holding her against me, my heart beating.
“Put her in here.”I place her on the bed. Her mother grabs the flashlight and shines it in her eyes.
“ Did you see what’s attacked her?”
“No…”She rushes to the door
“John!”She screams before coming back.
“These are bite marks.” She says once she examines her legs.
“ I Know.”
“But you don’t know who attacked her; who was it? Was it you, uncle?” I furrow my brows, confused.
“What? Why would my uncle?
“ Honey.” Mr.Sutherland rushes through the door, his face filled with panic.
“Elina!” He shouts as he runs up to her. “How did this happen?”He looks at me, expecting an answer.
“ Something attacked her in the woods,” I explain again.
“John gets him some clothes; I’ll clean the cut and bandage it.”He nods; I look down at myself, forgetting that I’m completely naked.
“Follow me.”I am reluctant to leave her, but I need to put something on, so I nod and follow him out the room and upstairs,
“ Put this on” He tosses me a shirt and a pair of jeans, then hurries out of the room. Why was she asking about my uncle? Why would he want to harm Elina? I quickly put my clothes on then headed back downstairs. Noime is tending to her wounds.
“Is she ok?”She glares at me before returning to her task, and I can see she does not like me.
“She will be.” Mr. Sutherland answers with a smile. “Thank you for bringing her home.” I nod then turn back to Elina. Her eyes are still closed. Why is she still unconscious? Did she lose too much blood?
“Why isn’t she waking up?” I ask as she wraps the last bandage then caress Elina’s cheek before leaning in and kissing her forehead before she pulls away to glare at me. She was not lying when she said her mother wanted nothing to do with wolves.
“Honey, watch her, tell me if anything changes in her condition.”She looks at me
“Follow me, boy.”I don’t like her tone, but I follow as she leads me to another room.
“Why is my daughter bleeding and unconscious?”
“ I found her like that... in the woods.”
“You just happen to be passing through?” she sounded me minutes ago, questioning that suspicious wolf except Elina called me.
“No, she called me.” I try to explain, not knowing if she is aware of our connection.
“ Why would she call you and not me?” I can feel her anger; the lights flicker on and off as she tries to restrain herself.
“I don’t know we have a connection, my wolf; she called out to me, so I went looking for her.”
“ Your uncle wouldn’t be the one trying to break it, would he?”
“Trying to break what?”
“Nothing, I’ll know once she awakens, but if anyone in your pack is responsible, I will wipe you all out,” I growl low,
“ I don’t like to be threatened, especially after saving your daughter's life.”
“You are the reason her life is in danger. You and that damn bond, now get out of my house and remember my words.” I scowl, the bond; she knows about it, and my uncle does too, and it’s clear they know more than Elina and me.
“Xavier,” Elina whispers; I growl, feeling the need to stay by her side and protect her.
“I’m not leaving.
“Get out,” She commands.
“ Xavier,” Elina shouts louder.
“Elina!” Her mother runs back into the room, and I follow.
“ Xavier! No! No!” She is screaming, but she isn’t awake, as if she’s having a nightmare, but why am I the one she’s screaming at?
“Baby, I’m here; he can’t hurt you. I won’t let him hurt you.”She turns to me and scowls.
“Get out!” I back away slowly
“She needs you,” Silas says as I keep backing up. She doesn’t; her mother is here.
“Get out!”
“ Xavier, don’t! Ahhhhhhhh,” Elina shouts again. Am I hurting her? Why is she screaming like that? My heart aches as I watch her face twist with pain.
“What’s happening?” I demand.
“ A dream...I have to call Raina,” Her mother shouts ignoring me.
“What’s happening?!” I shout; my voice reverberates through the house.
“Leave!” She shouts before she pushes past me. I should leave, but I can’t. Something keeps me planted. I need to know she’s ok; she has to be ok.
“ You should go.” Mr. Sutherland says. I look at Elina, who is now sweating as she twists on the table.
“I can’t.”
“I’ll call you when she wakes up; thank you for bringing her home.” Mr.Sutherland offers, which calms me a bit. I head over to the door reluctantly and glance back at her face, twisted in horror. I clench my fist before hurrying through the house.
“Tell Alavic I’m coming for him.”Her mother says to me as I exit the front door.
“He will need to answer to me first.”
Xavier I run into the woods and pull off my clothes and shift into my wolf, and begin to run. “Silas, can you sense her?” “Yes, but I cannot connect to her mind like before; something is blocking our link.” “ F**k!” I growl as my need to protect her deepens. I need to find more about this link. I need to speak to my uncle now. Why would he attack her? How would her dying help him? My thoughts are interrupted by a growling wolf who pounces out of nowhere and bares his teeth at me. I immediately recognize his scent; Jay and another familiar wolf, Sean, are standing before us and blocking my path. “Grrrr” “Get out of my way,” I growl through our mind link. “If it isn’t the little Alpha,” Sean says; he’s a beta in Keira’s pack also sent with the alliance, he resents the fact that I’ll be the Alpha. “Get the f**k out of my way!” “Why would we?” he growls as his wolf circles me.
****** Elina ****** I look down at my bleeding legs, which are covered in bite marks. Pain simmers deep into each wound. I breathe heavily, looking for a way out; he’s been gone for five minutes. I need to get up; I need to leave before he returns and kills me. I try to stand but immediately fall because my legs are too weak. I’m too weak. “You pathetic thing.” My heart race as his voice pierces my eardrum like a knife. He appears before me smirking; my head hurts, the bite hurts, but the betrayal feels worse; he saved me multiple times. He said he had no reason to kill me, so why now? Did he find out something about our connection and want to get rid of me because of it? “Xavier, please...we’ll break the bond, I’ll break it, please don’t kill me.” I try to beg, but my cries don't seem to touch his heart. Instead, he laughs, a maniacal devilish laugh; why is he like this? Was he always like this? “You’r
******** Elina ******** “You could have just asked to kiss...” He stops and looks around, finally realizing our surroundings. He slowly rises to his feet. “Where are we?” “I don’t know,” I reply, but it does look similar to the woods surrounding the house. "It’s your mind; can’t you control your thoughts."
Elina My heart pounds in my chest as I run through the dark woods illuminated only by the red moonlight. Dread fills my heart as we get closer and closer to Xavier’s home. Are they under attack? Who would attack them? I wonder, but I already have a sinking feeling in my stomach what today will be. I arrive through the clearing out of breath as Xavier and his younger self runs into an invisible barrier. Young Xavier growls loud as he tries to run into it, but he bounces back. A witches barrier, I note, these are used generally for witch meetings and counsels. Only witches can get in and out with ease. “Xavier, stop!” Young Elina screams, running to his side after his second attempt sends him flying into the woods. “Don’t touch me,” he shouts, brushing her off. “I’m trying to help. You can’t get through because it’s a witch's barrier; you need a witch to enter, so please take my hand.”She reaches out to him; he looks at her hand for a mo
Elina I watch, mesmerized as they continue to fight. “You were always too weak and a coward,” Xerxes growls. Titus jumps to his feet and lunges at him again. Xerxes dodges him and swings a right hook in his jaw, causing him to stagger and fall to the ground. “I am a coward; you are right. But there is no honor when you are dead.” He shouts, pulling a red necklace from his pocket. He throws it over his neck and immediately shifts into a wolf. Then he runs full speed lunging at Xerxes before he can react, biting him on his leg. Xerxes cries out as he rips his flesh out. He doubles over on the ground. Titus wolf continues his attack on Xerxes, biting and scratching. Xerxes starts rising to his feet. He swings his arm, knocking the wolf down. Then he goes to one of the dead wolves and pluck the necklace off their neck and shift into his wolf. “I pump my fist into the air. Yes, now they are on a level playing field. Xerxes’s wolf growls and
Elina Fifteen minutes ago “Hi, Elina” I look up at my younger self, her eyes pure white. I stare at her, confused. Why am I here? Can she see me? “You can see me?” “I did just say hi to you, so that would mean...” I frown; who is this little girl giving attitude? I mean, she’s me, but... “ you don’t have to be smart, “ I mumble. “You’re acting like it’s normal talking to yourself.” “I’m sure you’ve seen stranger things.” “Well yeah…wait, could you see me back there? Did you bring me here?” “I was the one who showed you the memory, and yes, I brought you here. The young version of yourself, however, was not me.” “Then who are you? Why are you people playing in my head?” I reply, frustrated and annoyed with everyone who thinks my mind is their own personal playground. “I am you; we are one.” I furrow my brows. “You said you weren’t the young me from the vision.” “I am
Alavic I sit in my office scanning the files detailing the search for Katerina. It’s been seven years, and we’re no closer to finding her. “Any movements by Titus?” I ask crus my second in command. “His people have been quiet for some time now, too quiet. Now that the Alpha is about to come of age, I’m afraid he’s planning something” I frown. That’s probably true; even though Titus has sworn he had nothing to do with them getting attacked that day, I had my suspicions. But I have no proof since Katerina is missing and my brother... BOOM. The sound echoes through the house as the walls begin to shake. “Are we under attack?” I ask as the sound echoes a second time. “Who would have the guts to attack head-on, not even Titus.”He replies. I jump to my feet immediately as the house shakes again. I open the door and walk out with Crus following. Whoever it is will pay dearly. I stop at the ton of the stairs and look over the banister. What I see shoc
“We three were always the best of friends because we were all only a year apart, your father the eldest at sixteen at the time, I was fifteen, and Titus was fourteen. We use to do everything together, fishing, hunting running, and although we were all boys, we all accepted that your father would be the next Alpha of our pack. Our family, therefore, was a peaceful one until Titus brought Katerina home one day. The moment she met, your father fell in love, and as you know, in our pack, the Alpha mate isn’t chosen by faith but by his heart. They chose each other, but Titus was already in love with her. He never forgave your parents for what he thought was a betrayal by both.” I listen intently as he recalls the past. So that is what he meant when he said he came from what was his back in Elina’s mind, “The first red moon, the year you were born. He attacked, but he was alone, and your father bested him quickly. We had forgotten about his hatred, so we weren’t on guard and I was
I remove my teeth from El’s neck and howl as our connection deepens. I feel everything she’s feeling: shock, confusion, love, and pain. It’s minor, but I hate that she is in pain because of me. I bit her before the full moon, and though it’s frowned upon, the effects are usually just mild pain and prolonged sleep. “AHHH.” El cries out, and simultaneously pain surges through me suddenly. I growl and shift back into my human form, pulling her into my arms. “El,” I call out to her, but her eyes are closed as her body shakes. I can feel the pain coursing through her. Silas claws against my being, trying to get out. Stop it, I command. There is nothing you can do. What’s wrong with her? “I don’t—-” “AHHHH,” she cries out again. “Troy!” “Yes, Alpha.” “Get Dr. Dyer, now!” Twenty minutes later, I’m pacing before the room as Dr. Dyer examines El. I can feel she is no longer in pain, but I can’t help from feeling like this is my fault. I shouldn’t have bitten her before it was time,
“What? Dad!” I shout, angrily. I was wondering why he wanted to see him so badly. Of course, he would make such a desperate request since he has no faith I can succeed him on my own.“Tess, this is for your own good.”“I’m not some charity case, Dad. I told you I could handle this on my own. I don’t need anyone and certainly not him!”I glare at Xavier, who is still in shock.“I don’t know how much longer I have. With his protection, I know you will be okay.” He reaches out to touch me but I turn away from him.“I don’t need his protection. I’m strong. Stronger than you think I am. I will—”“Wayne!” Xavier shouts followed by a large thud.I spin and find my father on the ground twisting in pain.“Dad!” I say as I run to his side.“What’s wrong with him? Is this related to his illness?”Xavier asks.“I don’t know he’s only ever coughed up a little blood before. Dad! What’s wrong?! Tell me what’s wrong?” He grits his teeth as blood leaks from the corner of his lips.“He needs a doctor—-Se
ElinaSilas stops and backs away slightly, but he keeps his guard up as he stands between me and the man. I look at the man who is still on the ground. His hair is a little shorter than it was a couple of days ago, but from the scar across his left eyebrow to his ocean blue eyes, and even the exhaustion he wears. I know it’s him. I watch as he rises to his feet slowly.“Are you alright?” I ask.He nods his head. “I am just a little sleep-deprived. I’m sorry if I scared you.” He takes a step toward me but stops in his track as Silas bares his teeth, warning him to stay back.“Silas, it’s okay. I think we can trust him.” I say.I do not know him, but I think if he wanted to hurt me, he wouldn’t have saved me from getting hit that day.“She’s right, Xavier. I am only here to talk. I will not hurt her.” The man says.I stare at him, stunned, as Silas growls at the mention of Xavier’s name. How does he know him? Who is he? Were my instincts wrong, and he was sent by Titus? I take two steps
Elina. The morning passes by pretty quickly and soon enough; it was time for lunch. I stand on the staircase waiting for Xavier and the girls. I’m glad Cass and I are back on good terms. It was hard being mad at her. Even if it was only for a day.“Elina.” I spin as Eric comes walking up to me. I figure he would come back to school soon. I wondered how I would feel when I see him again. If I would be angry or feel betrayed. However, what I feel now is indifference. Perhaps because, unlike Cass, he was a stranger to me before all this. Plus, after being stabbed by my grandmother, nothing else really surprises me.“You’re not here to kidnap me again, are you?” I joke as he approaches me.Not getting the joke, his face grows stern. “I’m really sorry.”“Which part? Poising me with your blood or trying to resurrect my dead great-grandmother in my body?”“Both. El, I’m really sorry. About everything. I don’t know how to make it up to you, but I promise I will. On my mate’s honor. I will.”“
IrisI awake to the heavy feeling of his hand across my body. I groan as I remove it and sit up, staring down at his sleeping face. Why did I let him sleep here last night? I am done with him. This relationship is pointless. He won’t choose me as his mate, and that is something that will never change. I need to move on. I have my whole life ahead of me. College next fall away from this town and him. That’s what I need: a fresh start, but this town was supposed to be Raina’s and I fresh start. A change to forget the horrible memory of our parent’s death, but now she’s off chasing ghosts and I’m in love with my teacher. My eyes drift to him sleeping peacefully and I can’t help thinking of all the times we fell asleep in each other arms. I hate to admit it, but I miss him. His smile, his touch, the feel of his skin against mine. I raise my hand, suddenly feeling the urge to touch him, when his eyes snap open. My hand pauses mid-air.“You act cold, but I know you miss me.” He says as he g
I walk out of the shower and head into my room. I towel dry my hair and pull on shorts and a t-shirt, then sit on the bed. After leaving Uncle Alavic, I spent the day training, determined to get better. I need to be stronger now that he’s leaving in two days. I need to become the leader he wants me to be.My phone buzzes and I grab it, hoping it’s Elina. I’ve been calling her all day, but she’s been ignoring me.I flip it over and see a text message from KeiraWe need to talk. Why would I need to talk to her? I frown and throw my phone down, depressed that it isn’t El. I sigh. I guess I’ll have to wait until school tomorrow to talk to her. Right now, I should try to get some rest. I pull back the covers and slip under, turning off the lamp. I close my eyes and try to sleep, but all I can think about is Uncle leaving and if I’m ready to be the Alpha without him guiding me? I toss and turn for hours until I give up and sit up in the bed. I need to clear my head. Maybe going for a run w
XavierTwenty minutes ago“Elina!” I shout as she falls to the ground.I rush to her side and pull her into my arms.“Elina!” I shake her, but she won’t budge. Her eyes are closed, and there is a small trickle of blood coming from one nostril.‘Mate’ Silas whines as he scratches to break free. I grit my teeth and push him back.“Stop it. You can’t help her.” He whimpers as I scoop El up in my arms.“Don’t worry, she will be fine.” I turn to head to the door when Noime shouts.“Mom!” I spin as Dad’s wolf is thrown across the room. He crashes into the wall and falls to the ground.“Dad!” I shout as I hurry to his side, with El still in my arms.“Mom!” she shouts. I spin as El's grandmother rises from the ground.“Mom!”Boom! A large burst of power erupts from her, pushing Noime and me back and shattering every glass in the room. I duck, shielding myself and El, who suddenly starts panting.“El,” I call as her breathing gets heavier.‘What’s wrong with her?’ Silas asks as I watch her che
ElinaI keep my grip on Xavier as he steers the bike down the road. My thoughts return to the man who had just saved me. His exhausted eyes were ablaze with rage. I’m not sure what he meant when he said he’d see me again. I’m hoping he’s not another enemy to contend with. Titus and his pack will be hard enough to deal with.“If he then we will face him together,” Xavier says through our mindlink. It still feels weird when his voice pops into my head, but it also makes me feel closer to him. I wrap my arms around him and lay my head on his back.“Together,” I murmur, closing my eyes for a brief rest.“El,” The sound of Xavier’s voice stirs me from sleep. I slowly open my eyes and realize we’re not moving anymore. I release Xavier and sit lean back, realizing we’re in Cass’ driveway.“You fell asleep. I guess we got a little rest after last night.” He says as he gently massages my hands that are still wrapped around him. I lean forward and press my face against his back, inhaling him.“
XavierI rub my temples as I listen to the reports of the latest news about what’s happening in our territory. I’ve been in this meeting since 10 and now it’s around noon and I’m ready for this to end. I glance down at the ring on my finger and smile. Maybe I should escape to El's room. I’m sure it would be more fun than this.“What are we going to do about the rogues?” Gris, one of the elders, asks, pulling me from my thoughts.“What rogues?” I glance up at my uncle, confused.“We had some rogues move in on the river in the last week.”“Why didn’t I know about this?”“You were.” He pauses. “I should have informed you, alpha. We’ve been monitoring them while you were—away. They seem harmless.” He says
