AUBURON
There was a week left until this royal ball my parents were throwing in hopes of me finding my mate. I wish they understood that I didn't want to go. I didn't want to find a mate, let alone choose one. The only thing on my mind is avenging my twin, my sister, Layla. It’s been about 5 months since she’s been attacked and it's frustrating me how her body has healed, yet she hasn't woken up. It’s like she’s in a coma or something. The doctors are saying that they aren't sure why she hasn't woken up as she has brain activity and plenty of it.
I let my lycan, Carro, out and we ran to our favorite spot in the kingdom. The rock right above the waterfall. It was beautiful and extremely peaceful. Hearing the water flowing and hitting the rocks, the wind blowing in our fur, and the sun shining down on us. It’s where I come to think. My parents are sending out invitations to everyone in the lycan kingdom and every werewolf pack for this stupid ball. “I hope we find our mate,” Carro says. I get angered every time he brings up a mate. “I don't,” I replied annoyingly. “You’ll see when we find her. I know we’ll find her,” he says. He may be extremely ruthless on the battlefield, but he is truly a big teddy bear. “Carro how many times do I have to tell you that the only thing I care about is Layla waking up?!” I say angrily. He rolls his eyes as if we aren't looking through the same ones right now. “I saw that,” I say. “Good! You were supposed to, you idiot!” He says. I laugh at his attempt to hurt my feelings. When I got back to the palace my best friend and future beta Dorian approaches me. “Hey man, your parents are going berserk because they couldn't find you.” I roll my eyes not caring. I had shut off my mind link when I left because I didn't want to be bothered. They didn’t care about my wishes not wanting to search for a mate, so I didn't care about well anything they had to say. Before I could reach my quarters, I heard my mother yell “AUBURON!” Carro whines in my head as if she’s the scariest thing walking. “You can't say she isn't scary,” Carro says. I roll my eyes and keep walking and am about to open my door when I see a dagger hit right beside my head going into my door. My eyes flash red as Carro suspects danger. I turn around to see my mother walking swiftly towards me. I take a breath and allow my dark brown eyes to come back to their color. “I missed on purpose.” She says walking up to me. “I know,” I reply, walking into my room. “Since you couldn't be bothered approving the invitations I sent them out,” she says. “Okay,” I say sternly, hoping she would leave. “You know you could at least be a little more enthusiastic, after all this ball is for you,” she says. “I. DON'T. WANT. IT!” I yell. “How many more times do I have to say that!? I ask. “Until you understand that your father and I don't care,” she says sternly. “You will attend this ball, you will find your mate, and THEN you can ascend the throne.” she says. I roll my eyes and reply “whatever.”She leaves my room, purposely leaving my door open and when I get up to close it, I see my future right hand standing there. “Ah, my prince. I took it things went well,” he says while grinning. “Yeah, everything went GREAT. “ I say sarcastically. “Goddess, why can't she just understand the only thing I care about is avenging Layla?!” I say defeated. I see a glimmer of sadness in his eyes before it disappears in an instant. “We have to be strong for her, my prince,” he says calmly. “You don't understand Dorian, she's my twin, I feel her in this constant state of agony. Yet her body is healed from the attack.” I say before pausing. “Are there any more clues into who was behind the attack?” I ask. “Well no, but I find it odd that your uncle has not been seen or heard from since the attack.” My uncle? Why would he suspect my uncle? I thought to myself. “He’s probably out whoring, why would he hurt Layla? I ask. He begins to speak yet no words come out until he says “I don't know, my prince, forget I said anything.” “Why the hell do you keep calling me “my prince” as if we’re not friends? You have been doing that since Layla’s attack.” I eye him angrily. He shifts on his feet, looking extremely uncomfortable. “It’s just the right thing to call you,” he says. I scoff at his reply. “Since when the hell did you care about doing the right thing?!” I ask. He pauses before answering “I don’t, you’re right.” he says and laughs while trying to lighten the mood. “Something is off with him,” Carro suggests. I was about to call him out till there was a soft knock at the door. “Auburon?” The soft voice calls out to me. I roll my eyes and toss my back on the bed, angrily fighting the air. “This bitch.” Carro says. Dorian goes to open my door when I see this pig-headed girl standing in the frame, in her little skimpy outfit with her boobs hanging out. “It’s my prince, to you! How dare you call me by my first name?!” I ask angrily. “I-I’m sorry, my prince. I was just stopping by to see how you were doing,” she says. “This girl thinks I'm dumb. I know she wants me to choose her as my chosen mate.“Fine. Now get out.” I say angrily. “WE WILL NOT CHOOSE HER,” Carro says angrily. “I know. We won't.” I reply trying to get him to calm down. Eventually Dorian leaves and I find myself in the shower trying to calm my nerves. Until I see a flash in my eyes and I see these luscious silver curls. When I come back to my senses I look around to see nothing but my bathroom and I definitely didn't see anybody with silver curls. “I’m losing it.” I thought to myself. “Maybe it was mate,” Carro says. I roll my eyes. “Shut up, we’re not finding a mate, and if we do, I’ll reject her,” I say proudly. “You know what’ll happen if you do,” he says to counter my argument. “Fine, I won't reject her, but I will never love her,” I reply. I wince at those words. I used to want a mate, but now all I care about is avenging Layla. “Your need for revenge will be the death of us,” he says. I can feel his sadness.LIANI The next day I woke up never wanting to drink again. “ I told you,” Iris says while I'm throwing up in the toilet. My head was pounding and I didn’t have the energy to argue with her. It didn’t help that I had taken in a lot of different information last night regarding my species. “I'm a hybrid,” I whisper to myself while looking in the mirror. “WE'RE A HYBRID,” Iris says. I head downstairs for breakfast and the entire pack is there. It was weird because usually, it was just a few of us around this time. Others were either working or attending school. I had classes online so I usually got up early to train with the warriors. I guess I loved that my parents encouraged me to train with them when I was younger.“Great, you’re here.” Alpha Luke said as I sat at the table. Demetri was eyeing me more than usual lately and it was weird. “Not really, he’s the Alpha’s son, and it's normal for them to be mated with a beta’s daughter.” I cringe at the thought of being mated to him. It'
AUBURONIt was now 3 days before the royal ball and I do what I do every morning. I go and visit Layla. When I walked into the pack hospital no one says anything although all eyes are on me. Each person just bows as I pass. But, I do prefer it that way. Walking into the silence allows me to mentally prepare to see my sister. Opening the door to her room, I see her frail body in her hospital gown, and I hear the monitors hooked up to her beeping. I take a deep breath before I sit beside her and grab her hand. “Hey, sis,” I say. “I know you probably can’t hear me, but I miss you more every day. I’m working tirelessly to find the culprit that did this to you. I feel the consistent agony you’re in and if it were up to me I would take on all your pain if it meant that I could have you back. I need my twin back. You know there’s no me without you, Lay. I can't believe you’re going to miss this extra-ass royal ball that our parents are throwing in hopes that I can find my mate.” I pause as
AUBURONI yanked those curtains down so fast as I stormed out of Layla’s room. My eyes flash between their dark brown color and red. The anger that consumed me was taking over my entire body, I was fighting with Carro to keep him from taking over. Luckily when I stormed through my parents' study both of them were in there. “Auburon, what's wrong?” My mom said as they both saw the shifts between my eyes going brown to red, brown to red. I angrily pushed the curtain towards them and said “WHOSE SCENT IS THAT?!” My dad snatched the curtains from my moms' hands and took in a long sniff. His eyes immediately changed to the golden-light brown color of his lycan. “THAT BASTARD!” He yelled. I could see the fear in my moms' eyes as she took the curtains from my father gently, taking the curtains in her left hand and keeping her right hand on my father's forearm, stroking her thumb to try and soothe him. As soon as she took a whiff, her thumb immediately stopped moving. “GUARDS!!” She yelled a
LIANI It was now just one day till the Royal Ball and I felt really weird. I’ve been having hot and cold flashes all day, my head is pounding and I have tremors all throughout my arms and legs. My mom said it could have something to do with my powers. But I thought that was weird as she said I wouldn’t get them till I met my mate. “I think we’ll meet him tomorrow,” Iris says. “Really?” I say excitedly. I’ve seen how my mom and dad were and the love that they have for each other. Even in death, it’s something that is unbreakable. I’ve always wanted that for myself. I wonder what my mate will be like. I thought to myself. “I hope he’s sexy!” Iris jokes. “And even if he isn't, it's who the moon goddess has blessed us with,” I say, smiling just thinking about my future mate. I spent the next 30 minutes getting ready as Sydney, Aella, Luna Alora, my mom and I are all going gown shopping for the Royal Ball tomorrow. We’re going to the mall that’s about 45 minutes out of town. I'm so exci
AUBURON Today is the day that I either find my mate or I select a chosen mate. With every she-wolf and lycan headed to the kingdom today, I couldn’t help but dread what was coming. My mother has come to my quarters five different times just to check to see if I'm here and didn’t run off anywhere. She even placed guards at every possible exit. “I don't know why she acts like we wouldn’t be able to rip them to shreds without so much as lifting a finger,” Carro says. “You’re right,” I respond chuckling at his honesty. Both my mother and father know that If me and Carro want to do something we will. It's the reason a lot of people fear us. Even in my human form no man or warrior is a match for me. There were about two hours till this stupid ball and the only thing I wanted to do was go and visit my sister. “Mother,” I say sternly through the mind link. “What is it Auburon?” she asks. “I’m going to visit Layla,” I say. “Auburon, do you think that’s a good idea? Tonight is an important n
LIANI I looked at myself one more time in the mirror before we headed to the royal palace. I had my silver curly hair half up, half down, with a few pieces in the front of my face. Aella helped me do my makeup. It was an extremely soft look that highlighted my natural facial features. Aella even put a pair of eyelashes on me. This was my first time wearing them and honestly, I would want to wear them again. “Come on Li, we have to go,” my mother says. “I’m coming,” I say as I rush out to the car. When I reached the car, my mother told me that I looked beautiful. “Happy Birthday Li,” she said as she handed me a small black box. “Mom, you didn't have to get me anything,” I say. “Girl hush and open it,” she said with excitement. I opened it to find a beautiful gold-plated bracelet. It had little crystals all around it. “What crystal is this?” I ask. “It’s Carnelian, one of the best crystals to tap into your power and exude confidence,” she says. “It’s beautiful Mom, thank you,” I say
AUBURON I instinctively pushed my mate behind me when I heard the clapping. “Well, well, well,” said a woman’s voice. “Look, Kaya, they’re already arguing,” said a voice that was similar to my uncle’s. Carro immediately pushed forward as my eyes flashed red trying to contain my lycan so he wouldn’t do anything too rash. “WHY DID YOU DO IT?!” screamed my mate. I looked over at her and saw her beautiful lilac eyes. I could tell that her wolf was present. Tears were beginning to fill them as I wondered what happened between her and this woman. “You’re asking the wrong question, my dear niece.” the woman said as she scoffed. Isn't this ironic? My uncle and her aunt. Huh. I thought. I glared at my uncle as he smiled and said “How’s little Layla?” I see red as I run to attack him before the weird woman raised her hand and he was now on the left side of her. “What the fuck?” said Carro. I growled in frustration. “See little niece, you should be asking why I’m here,” she said as she rai
LIANIAs we made our way back to the ballroom I could feel Prince Auburon’s eyes burning into my back as I walked ahead with his mother, queen Emris. “I love the way you cut off the king.” She says as amusement fills her eyes. I cleared my throat unsure of what to say. Was she being serious? I mean I did cut off her husband, one of the most powerful Lycans to ever walk this earth. “Us women have to make our presence known or else the men will just run us over or act as if we’re not there,” she said. Again, I was flabbergasted that she was being so frank with me.“I appreciate your kind words, my queen,” I say. “Oh dear, please call me Emris. I will be your mother-in-law soon.” I turned my neck slightly to look over my shoulder at Auburon when I heard him scoff. “Do not mind him, Liani. He might not show it right now, but he’s happy to have found you.” The queen says as the guards open the double doors into the ballroom. Before I could give the queen a fake smile, I realized the ballro
