AUBURON
Today is the day that I either find my mate or I select a chosen mate. With every she-wolf and lycan headed to the kingdom today, I couldn’t help but dread what was coming. My mother has come to my quarters five different times just to check to see if I'm here and didn’t run off anywhere. She even placed guards at every possible exit. “I don't know why she acts like we wouldn’t be able to rip them to shreds without so much as lifting a finger,” Carro says. “You’re right,” I respond chuckling at his honesty. Both my mother and father know that If me and Carro want to do something we will. It's the reason a lot of people fear us. Even in my human form no man or warrior is a match for me. There were about two hours till this stupid ball and the only thing I wanted to do was go and visit my sister. “Mother,” I say sternly through the mind link. “What is it Auburon?” she asks. “I’m going to visit Layla,” I say. “Auburon, do you think that’s a good idea? Tonight is an important night and we need you present.” She says. I know she would never deny me visiting Layla, and I know that she wishes she could too. But, with all the last-minute preparations she has to do, there’s no way she could visit. “I’ll be present Mom,” I say. I know she can hear the dread in my voice. “Okay, take a guard. And Auburon?” she says. “Yes?” I reply. “Tell your sister I love her and to keep fighting,” she says. My heart tightens at those words. “Will do, Mom,” I say. “Oh and before I forget your brothers will be back tonight! They’ll be at the ball.” “Great!” I say sarcastically. Two more extra pains in my ass tonight. My twin brothers Kayden and Finn were just five years younger than Layla and me. They’re just immature little shits. I groan as I think about how they’re going to mock me tonight. “Brandon, let’s go,” I say. Brandon was a loyal guard that has worked for my family for years. If there’s anyone I trust more outside of Dorian it would be him. As we approached the hospital doors I took a deep breath and whispered “You can do this.” “Hey, sis. It's me again. I’m about to have the longest night of my life and I just wish you could be there. I know that you would help lighten the mood while I have to deal with all these women. I also know that you would want me to look for my mate and enjoy this evening… but, I can't do that, not now, not while you’re in this coma state. Oh, and Dorian told me about you guys being mates. I’m happy for you sis! I’m disappointed that you kept it from me, but I can understand why you did. Nevertheless, you guys have my support. Always.” I get up to leave and I swear I felt Layla squeeze my hand. It was very light almost like she didn’t do it at all. “Keep fighting sis, we love you,” I say before leaving out the door. When I got back to the palace I see cars have already started arriving and dread fills me to my core. “Let’s just get this shit over with” I whisper to myself. I avoid walking through the front doors to avoid people trying to converse with me. I didn’t want to entertain this ball for any longer than I had to. I went to take a quick shower and I come out to see the suit that my mom picked out it was a dark royal blue color with a white shirt next to it. Of course, she would choose Royal Blue. It was the colors of our Kingdom. After I finished getting dressed and played with my hair till I felt that it looked fine, I took my leave to greet everyone. I walked into the ballroom on the second floor being able to take a look at the ballroom from the balcony and I have to say that my mom did an amazing job. The ballroom walls were gold with royal blue decorations and accents. There were wolves mingling amongst themselves and lycans mingling with their own kind. It annoys me how there’s still this separation among my people. I was so lost in thought that I didn’t see my parents or brothers walk up behind me. “Aubie!” Kayden yells trying to piss me off. My father and I both glare at him because this is not the time or the place. He gets the memo almost immediately and looks down at the ground trying not to laugh. Finn was going to say something until the master of ceremonies took his place downstairs right above the balcony and said “Ladies and Gentleman, Wolves and Lycans, Thank you from everyone here at the palace including the royal family for attending tonight. Please help yourselves to any food or drinks you may see. Also, once every pack has arrived we will do formal introductions.” I heard gasps all throughout the ballroom. George, the master of ceremonies smiles before he continues “Yes, everyone here will have a chance to introduce themselves to the royal family, including Prince Auburon.” I grimace at the thought that I’m going to have to meet EVERY person in attendance.LIANI I looked at myself one more time in the mirror before we headed to the royal palace. I had my silver curly hair half up, half down, with a few pieces in the front of my face. Aella helped me do my makeup. It was an extremely soft look that highlighted my natural facial features. Aella even put a pair of eyelashes on me. This was my first time wearing them and honestly, I would want to wear them again. “Come on Li, we have to go,” my mother says. “I’m coming,” I say as I rush out to the car. When I reached the car, my mother told me that I looked beautiful. “Happy Birthday Li,” she said as she handed me a small black box. “Mom, you didn't have to get me anything,” I say. “Girl hush and open it,” she said with excitement. I opened it to find a beautiful gold-plated bracelet. It had little crystals all around it. “What crystal is this?” I ask. “It’s Carnelian, one of the best crystals to tap into your power and exude confidence,” she says. “It’s beautiful Mom, thank you,” I say
AUBURON I instinctively pushed my mate behind me when I heard the clapping. “Well, well, well,” said a woman’s voice. “Look, Kaya, they’re already arguing,” said a voice that was similar to my uncle’s. Carro immediately pushed forward as my eyes flashed red trying to contain my lycan so he wouldn’t do anything too rash. “WHY DID YOU DO IT?!” screamed my mate. I looked over at her and saw her beautiful lilac eyes. I could tell that her wolf was present. Tears were beginning to fill them as I wondered what happened between her and this woman. “You’re asking the wrong question, my dear niece.” the woman said as she scoffed. Isn't this ironic? My uncle and her aunt. Huh. I thought. I glared at my uncle as he smiled and said “How’s little Layla?” I see red as I run to attack him before the weird woman raised her hand and he was now on the left side of her. “What the fuck?” said Carro. I growled in frustration. “See little niece, you should be asking why I’m here,” she said as she rai
LIANIAs we made our way back to the ballroom I could feel Prince Auburon’s eyes burning into my back as I walked ahead with his mother, queen Emris. “I love the way you cut off the king.” She says as amusement fills her eyes. I cleared my throat unsure of what to say. Was she being serious? I mean I did cut off her husband, one of the most powerful Lycans to ever walk this earth. “Us women have to make our presence known or else the men will just run us over or act as if we’re not there,” she said. Again, I was flabbergasted that she was being so frank with me.“I appreciate your kind words, my queen,” I say. “Oh dear, please call me Emris. I will be your mother-in-law soon.” I turned my neck slightly to look over my shoulder at Auburon when I heard him scoff. “Do not mind him, Liani. He might not show it right now, but he’s happy to have found you.” The queen says as the guards open the double doors into the ballroom. Before I could give the queen a fake smile, I realized the ballro
AUBURON I hated the idea of anyone going near my unconscious sister. “It’s our mate’s mother,” Carro says trying to reason with me. “We don't know them! Let alone trust them!” I yell at him in response. I can’t even believe that my parents are allowing this. “What if they help her?” Carro asks. “Then they help her!” I snap. As everyone started leaving the room I told my parent’s that I needed to talk to them before we all went to see Layla. “Please wait outside for us.” said my father to Liani and her mom. When everyone was out of the room my father said “Well, out with it.” “Uncle Archer was here tonight,” I said angrily. My eyes were flickering back and forth between red and brown as I tried to calm Carro. My mother and father looked equally shocked. “I didn’t smell his scent.” says my father. “Well, he was with Liani’s aunt who was able to hide his scent,” I said trying to convince myself that was the reason why I didn’t smell either of them. “What did he say?” asked my mom. “N
LIANI I shield myself from the sun as it beams into my eyes. I hear the ocean waves crash against the shoreline and sand beneath my feet before I see a woman whose back is turned to me. I didn’t feel like she was dangerous, but I felt her pain. “H-hello?” I stutter softly, trying not to scare her. She turns to me in an instant and asks “You can see me?” I smile at her once I was able to see her face and knew that I was talking to the princess. Auburon’s sister, Layla. “Yes, I can see you.” I look around as I notice we’re on some type of beach and ask “Where are we?” “The only place that brings me comfort,” she says as she turns her back to me. “This is where Aubie and I would run off to when we needed a break from the royal life.” A smile forms on her face as I walk up to the side of her. “His dumbass would always splash me in the face with water!” she yells still with a smile on her face. I chuckle at the memory as I envision my mate being… playful. From what I’ve seen so far, he’
LIANI I could feel the pain in my chest rising as I watch this she-wolf flaunt herself all between my mate's legs and he was just sitting there. Drinking his glass of liquor as if it doesn’t bother him at all that another woman is that close to him. Iris was howling in my head trying to push forward to snatch this she-wolf by her hair for being this close to our mate. I could feel something else aside from Iris rising up within me. My entire body was pulsing as I let out a low growl. It wasn’t until he heard my growl that everyone went dead silent and looked at me. The she-wolf looked at me and smirked which made me growl a bit louder. Auburon sat back with his eyes wide. I saw them flicker between red and brown as he was fighting with his wolf. I quickly composed myself and saw a guy who looked as if he was part of Auburon’s guard. I could tell that he was attracted to me. If Auburon thought he was going to get the best of me then he was wrong. The last thing I’ll allow is for a
AUBURON Before I could even say anything, Carro pushed forward and said ‘NO!’ as he whimpered. Goddess, I have the strongest lycan known to man and here he was whimpering at the thought of losing his mate. But, I can’t say that it also didn’t pain me that she would suggest a rejection. Once I got control of my wolf I said ‘Not going to happen.’ This seemed to make her furious. “WHY NOT?” she yelled. I quickly pulled her towards me and wrapped her in my arms, snuggling my face into her neck, and said “Because you are mine.” I could feel her wolf submit to me and her body relaxing in my arms. I ran my hands down her back until I reached her posterior. I gripped it firmly and heard her let out a soft moan at my touch. “No one else can touch what is fine, do you got that?” I whisper as I bring my face to her ear and bite it softly. I hear her say nothing so I look up at her releasing her from my touch just a little bit, and she stares at me in return. “Then, no one can touch what is
AUBURON I watched anxiously as my mate and her mom made a circle around Layla’s hospital bed with salt and lit candles all around it to begin the process of breaking this sleeping curse. I was excited to see my sister again, but nervous that something would go wrong or that it wouldn’t work. I was frowning at those thoughts and before I realized Liani came and hugged me out of them. “It will be okay. I promise,” she said as I snaked my arms around her waist, embracing her back. “I trust you,” I whispered in her ear as I snuggled closer into her neck. Carro was purring at the scent of our mate and I know he is excited to meet Liani’s wolf. She looked up and smiled at me before walking back over to help her mom. After about fifteen minutes everything was finally set up and Maya stood on one side of Layla and Liani on the other. They faced each other holding hands as they held them above Layla’s body. I could feel the tension in the room as they begin to speak in Latin. Both Liani
