Chapter 1
Clarissa POV
I giggle excitedly as I check the screen of my phone to see the email that was sent to me from the company. After job hunting for a couple of months, I finally got one in the company I least expected. That is a blessing in disguise.
"MJ group of company," I say to the cabby I just stopped.
"Fifty bucks," He replies to me, and I pull the door open and hop in. It's my first day at work, and I'm a bit nervous.
It looked like we were not going to make it to the company since we got stuck in a traffic jam for about twenty minutes, but we finally got out a few minutes ago, and we are currently on our way to the company, on the last route.
"We're here," He announces as he pulls over at the side of the road, and I pay him before I hop out of the car.
Staring at the tall building in front of me, I gulp down nothing nervously. I check my wristwatch for the time, and as expected, I'm fifteen minutes late. I didn't want to create a bad impression about myself on my first day here, but the traffic jam has to be blamed for all these shits.
I proceed into the building, and luckily, I spot the lady that interviewed me the last time I was here.
"You came quite late on your first day at work. Why?" The forty-five years old woman questions me as we both walk side by side to God knows where.
"I'm sorry, I got stuck in the traffic," I reply to her, and she remains silent.
We finally arrive at the front of my supposed office.
"Just go to your office, and don't bother the CEO. He doesn't want to be disturbed now," She says to me before she finally walks away, leaving me to sort myself out.
Taking a deep breath, I finally walk inside the office, but my mouth drops open at the sight that welcomes me. The office looks way prettier for a secretary.
Being an orphan of both parents, and all alone in the world is so tiring. Nobody cares for me, and nobody gives a damn about whatever happens to me. It's pretty pathetic to be without a family. For a twenty-two years old girl, you can imagine the pain I have been through, right?
Three years ago, I finally graduated from the best university in Atlanta with a first-class degree in business administration, but guess the job I got with that best result. Well, I had to work in a restaurant as a waitress for over two years, before I got a higher-paying job to work as a bartender in a popular bar in town. Just six months ago, I got sacked from the bar because my bad mouth got me into trouble, and since then, I have been trying to secure another one, but couldn't, until I finally got this one.
I sit gently on my supposed seat, where a set of desktop is already placed on the desk for me. I resume work immediately since some documents were forwarded to my email yesterday.
After a few minutes of working, I stop to glance at my supposed boss's office, and I find him sitting there with all of his attention on the desktop. Although the glass demarcating us is transparent enough for me to see him, his face is kind of blurred and I can't tell what he looks like. Wait! Am I not going to see him before I leave? It's not ideal. What if someone asks me later what my boss looks like? What would I tell them?
"You're here for work, just stay focused," I mumble, turning my attention back to my work.
It's finally lunchtime, and I stop to look at him, but he doesn't look like he's going out to eat, and my stomach is already hurting. I wanted to be early to work today that I ended up not having breakfast before I left, and here I am now, about to die of hunger.
I try to endure the hunger and not complain, but it gets so worse that I can't even take it anymore, so I stand up to my feet and rush to his door. I place a soft knock on it.
"Excuse me, Sir. This is Clarissa, your new secretary," My heart beats nervously as I speak. I wait patiently for him to either usher me in, or answer me, but two minutes passed, and I'm still standing here like a fool. Did he not hear me knock?
"Sir..." I place another knock on the door.
"You can go for lunch," His deep voice cuts me off weirdly, and I flinch as I blink my eyes confusingly. How the hell did he know that I was going to ask for that?
"Come see me when you're done," He further says, and I gulp down the sudden lump that forms in my throat. Am I going to be working with an introvert? I hope not, because I don't want to die of depression.
"Yes, Sir," I reply to my ghost boss before I turn and advance toward the door, leaving the office afterward.
Finding my way to the company's canteen didn't turn out difficult as I had thought, and luckily, the food here is free for staffers.
Returning to the office after I had lunch, I find him still sitting on the same spot, and I begin to ask myself if this man doesn't get hungry. Even if he had eaten earlier, it's time to get hungry, for a normal person. I place a knock on his door. "Come in," Following his reply, I push the door open, and walk inside. The office is twice as big as mine, and its interior design is everything beautiful. It's weird how I can't find any portrait on the wall, unlike every other companies I've been to for an interview, where the CEOs would always have portraits hanging on the wall. Everybody has their preferences though.I finally tilt my head to look at the man that has been avoiding everyone all day, but my mouth drops open in shock at the sight I behold. Sitting before me is an angel, probably a fallen one that has been missing on earth, because he doesn't look like any human. His pair of blue eyes that pierce into mine, are sharp, charming, and look intimidating. His long pointed nose compliments his cuteness. His pink lips look juicy and appetizing. His skin is flawlessly glowing and screams nothing, but wealth. For goodness sake, how much did he spend on that skin to make it so perfect? His thick black hair though is messy, but he looks perfect in it. He looks flawlessly cute even with that deep frown on his face. Just who the hell is this man?
Alpha Miguel It has been five months since the death of Jenny, but I'm yet to get over it. Although that has happened before, but hers makes me feel so guilty each time I think about it. Every day, I come to work, feeling distressed. I guess my secretary got tired of the new me and decided to quit. I got a new secretary today, but I don't just feel like seeing her. I just want to be left alone. "Sir, it's me, Clarissa," Her voice sounds from outside, reminding me that I asked her to see me after lunch. "Come in," The door opens as soon as I usher her in, and she walks in. "Mate!" Ares, my wolf growls inside me, and I snap my head up to see her standing there and staring around the room. It's my first time seeing her, and she looks extremely beautiful. She is not too tall and has a curvy shape that makes her suit fits her perfectly. Her long blonde hair is packed in a ponytail with some strands on her forehead. Her skin is flawlessly smooth and beautiful, even though she d
Clarissa POV It has been over thirty minutes since I arrived here, but there has been no sign of Mr. Miguel in the office yet, and I'm disturbed because he's always the first to get here before me. Thinking of the way he has been avoiding me for the past one week that I have been working here, I can only wonder what it is that I might've done wrong. Feeling his presence in the office, I raise my gaze to see him walk in with the usual deep frown on his face. "Good morning, Sir," I quickly stand up to my feet and bow to greet him, but he only hums and walks straight into his office, leaving me standing here like a fool. "What's wrong with him?" I sigh briefly as I sink into my seat, and get back to work. Glancing at him through the glass for the seventh time, I take a deep breath and run my fingers through my hair. I have no idea why I'm disturbed by his mood, but I can't just help it. It's finally time to go submit the documents for last week to him, but I'm a bit
Chapter 5 Alpha Miguel "Thank you, Sir," The way she smiles at me after I drop her off at the bus stop makes my heart flutter, and I feel my wolf wavers inside me excitedly. "Hmm," I nod my head before I start the car and drive away. The thought of Clarissa fills my heart as I drive down the road minutes later. Even though I have been avoiding her all this while, I still feel drawn to her, and I wish I can stop this. Arriving at home minutes later, I set to go to the pack to see Ares, because I need to discuss with him about this. It has just been one week since she started working with me, and I seem to be losing control of myself, I just wonder what will happen the rest of the time we would be spending together. Teleporting to the pack is not something difficult, since it's what I have always done. On my way to Roan's chamber, I stop on my track when I bump into the chief of the castle. It has been a while since I last saw him since I have been avoiding him.
Clarissa POVSince my boss is a sadist and an introvert, I decided to at least do something that'll make him happy. I found out yesterday from his ID card that today is his birthday. I would've loved to be the first to wish him a happy birthday, but since I felt he would be angry if I called him on the phone, I decided to leave it until I get to the office today."Happy birthday, Mr. Miguel," I say to him as soon as he steps into the office, and a thin line appears between his eyebrows as he squints his eyebrows with confusion written all over him. Wait a minute! Has he forgotten that today is his birthday or what?"I got this for you," Although I just started work here, I still feel it'll be nice to get him a gift on his birthday. I dropped by the mall this morning on my way to work where I got a beautiful necklace. Since I didn't have much to buy an expensive one, I decided to go for a cheaper one instead. He stares at me blankly before he takes his gaze to the necklace, and he fina
Chapter 6Alpha Miguel Reclining on the chair, I watch as she eats the food cautiously. With just a glance, anyone would know that it's her first time eating something like this. 'She's she the one for you, Alpha' Roan's words replay in my head, and I sigh briefly as I throw my head back, spacing out again. I don't know why this had to happen after I've given up on ever being with any woman, but then I feel like life is trying to give me a second chance, but am I ready for this chance? What if she ends up dying just like others? Will I ever be able to be free from the guilt? She's just an innocent human that doesn't even know about my identity. I feel like it'll be selfish of me to do this, knowing that she won't be safe, but what about the bond that keeps drawing me close to her even if I try to resist?"Isn't she pretty?" Ares suddenly pulls me out of my train of thought, and I sigh briefly."I'm scared, Ares. I'm scared she's not safe around us," I mind link Ares, and I feel him
Chapter 7Clarissa POV Watching a movie with my boss happens to be the happiest thing I've ever done. Right from when the movie started and ended, he maintained a straight face even when it was an emotional movie that makes one cry. Some of the men there cried, I wonder why he didn't, anyway."Do you cry that often when you watch movies?" He asks as he drives us down the dark road, and I slowly nod my head. I may be a stubborn extroverted girl, but trust me, I'm also emotional."Yes, I cry when the movie is emotional. I cry when I read books," I reply to him and giggle because this is so embarrassing. My boss doesn't seem bad after all. Although he doesn't like talking much, he's cool and really fun to be with."You shouldn't cry about such things. They are just fiction and not real," He shrugs while still having his eyes fixated on the road, and I nod my head in agreement with what he said."Hmm... I just can't help it always," I reply to him, and he nods his head. For the next two
Chapter 8Alpha Miguel "You can't keep staying like this without a mate, Alpha. You need to find another mate, or better still, let's choose one for you. Thank the gracious lord that one can always have a chosen mate," Ralph, one of the chiefs utters, and I groan frustratingly while rubbing my forehead. This is the reason I detest coming to the castle, I prefer to live as a CEO peacefully amongst the human, but I can't deny the fact that I also have responsibilities here, right?"We even went as far as hosting a birthday party for you yesterday and invited the maidens from the pack and other neighboring packs in a bid to get you a mate, but you didn't show up Alpha. What is really going on?" Gael, another one says as he stands up to his feet, and I sigh briefly."Alpha, other Packs are going to mock us, and may even call our Alpha a weak impotent man that can't satisfy a woman which was why he hasn't gotten one in his life," Gael further says, and that is it. How dare he call me impo
Chapter 9Alpha Miguel I drive to the company as usual and head to my office. Since Clarissa always came before me, I am not so surprised to see her already at her post and doing her job."Good morning, Sir," She stands up and smiles at me shyly as soon as I walk inside the office, and I nod my head at her."Morning. Get my schedule for next week and submit it on my desk immediately," I say to her before I proceed to my office.Sitting behind my desktop a few minutes later and working, I keep getting distracted as the thought of Clarissa filled my heart.'Impotent' as the word ring in my head for the nth time, I scoff angrily and recline on the chair. Maybe I should just give this a try and prove them wrong that I'm not impotent, I need to prove to them that I can be with a woman, but then I'm scared of being the cause of the death of another innocent lady again."Sir, can I come in?" Still lost in thoughts, her voice sounds from outside, bringing me back to reality."Come in," Follo
Chapter 68 Axel POV The last few days have been the worst days of my life, and I've been trying to sort everything out, but the more complicated it got. Oliver moved in to stay with me even though I didn't agree to it. She insisted she wanted us to get back together and that she was ready for me now. All the time she was away, she never had a girlfriend because she knew that I was here. Well, that was what she told me, but she wasn't expecting me to believe that, right? Even if she was saying the truth, I never asked her to wait for me. We fucking broke up, and she has no right to come back to my life, right? 'Just let me stay here, Axel. I have nowhere to go. I came here because of you, where do you expect me to go stay?' she asked me when insisted she must leave. Did I forget to mention that she was not from my Pack but from a neighboring Pack? As much as I didn't want her to stay back here, she wouldn't listen to me and insist. As I drove Charity to the cafe where o
Chapter 67 Clarissa POV It has been three days since I law saw Miguel, and it's crazy how he didn't even bother to come here to check up on me. Does he ever love me? "You asked him to stay the hell away from you, Clarissa. What the hell are you saying?" My subconscious mind reminded me, and even though I asked him to leave me alone, he could still come around and check up on me, knowing that I would miss him, right? "My boyfriend is coming to pick me up for a tour. Do you want to come with us?" Charity asked me as she walked back into the room with a white towel wrapped around her chest, and I rolled my eyes. She just finished bathing and probably going to leave very soon. "No, I'm not interested," I replied to her flatly, and she nodded her head. I guess she got tired of talking to me about Miguel, so she stopped doing it. Missing him was something I couldn't deny. I always craved to see him every damn second I thought I was going to lose my mind if I don't see her.
Chapter 66 Axel POV "Are you ok?" I ask Miguel, seeing the way he was looking all sad. I needed no one to tell me that this was probably because of his mate. Did she break up with him? I asked myself, but quickly dismissed the thoughts, recalling he told me earlier that they were going to meet. "I'm not fine, Axel. What should I do? She quit with her job and broke up with me," He sighed deeply as he reclined on the couch, and I ran my fingers through my hair. This was something I couldn't handle and didn't know how to comfort him. He was looking extremely sad like he just lost someone, and I could understand what he was feeling. Those chiefs at the Pack would frustrate life out of him if he didn't provide his mate at the appointed date. "What should I do? You know I can't let her go, right?" He said, and I nodded my head. Aside from being mates, one thing I've come to notice with the two is that he was really in love with her. The mate bond aside, Miguel was madly in l
Chapter 65Clarissa POV After hanging out together, he insisted he wanted to drop me off at home, which I didn't even tried to protest because of how scared I am. What if I bump into those people on my way? I asked myself when I wanted to protest, and I end up allowing him to drop me off."Good night," He smiles at me when he drops me off at the front of my apartment, and I roll my eyes as I turn and start walking inside. I miss his embrace, so can't he fucking hug me even if it's just for seconds? I huff angrily, and just then, he hugs me from behind, and my heart flutters. We remain like that for the next two minutes, and I can't help but want more of this. I know I miss him so much, I want to tell him how much I've missed him, and how much I want him back in my life so badly, but whenever I think about his identity, I can't help but cringe. He is not a human for goodness sake. I would always remind myself, giving me all the reasons to hold back. I mean, this is not a movie or one
Chapter 64Clarissa POV It's almost closing time, and I can't just wait to get the hell out of here, because it feels so awkward. For some reason, I find myself regretting telling him that. I know it's crazy, but I still fucking love him. Maybe I shouldn't have told him to stay miles away from me, and he is not even talking to me since morning. "Wow! Such a petty jerk!" I curse under my breath after I glance at his office and he is already getting ready to leave his office. Don't tell me he is leaving before closing time. I quickly turn my gaze away when I spot him coming out of his office."Uhm... We have an urgent meeting to attend now. You should come with me," He utters once he walks into my office, and I almost scoff, but recalling that we are officially having a boss-employee relationship, I decided to sulk it in and respect him as my boss."Yes, Sir," I reply to him and switch the desktop off before I stand up to my feet."Sir, do I need to take anything with me?" I raise my
Chapter 63Clarissa POV "You're here?" I bet he is excited, but wait! Don't tell me he was going to hug me. That's crazy."Hmm. Let's talk," I utter rudely as I head toward his office, and sit on the visitor's chair once I walk inside. I can't deny that I've really missed this place. It has just been a few days since I was last here, and I've missed it so much. What if I decided to quit? I don't think I will be able to hang on. I may lose my mind."Now, that's too pretty to be true," My subconscious mind reminds me, and I roll my eyes. My heart skips when I hear his thick footsteps in the office, but I try to remain calm."Babe...""Don't call me that," I cut him off, avoiding his eyes, and I hear him sigh."Fine! I'm sorry," He utters in a low tone that I can barely hear him. I watch as he walks over to his seat and sits on the chair."Uhm... Have you eaten before coming here? Do you want me to get you something to eat?" He asks as she clasps his fingers together, and I scoff."I'm
Chapter 62Clarissa POVI woke up quite early today and decided to bathe, since Charity has taken care of the chores as usual. I can't hide the fact that I'm excited about meeting Miguel today, but then, it still doesn't change the fact that he is not a human."You are only going there because Charity insisted," I remind myself as I look at my reflection in the mirror. I'm currently alone in the room, sinks Charity is preparing breakfast in the kitchen. I told her I wasn't hungry, but insisted that I eat before I leave the house. After I'm done getting dressed, I finally leave the room and head to the kitchen, but luckily, she is already in the dining room, dishing out the food."Perfect timing. Come here, come and have a seat. You will love the food I made," She smiles at me as she pulls out the chair for me to sit on, and I roll my eyes."What's with that now? Is there something you are not telling me?" I pull a puzzled look, but she shakes her head before she goes to stand behind m
Chapter 61Axel POVI watch as Miguel smiles excitedly, and even though I've not asked him what's with the expression yet, I know it has to do with his mate. Are they going to settle things? Are they getting back together? Well, I have no answer to those questions.I got a call earlier while at the restaurant that my sister got involved in a fight with someone at a friend's party, and I had to rush down there to check on her. Yes, I have a little sister, although we don't live together. Jessica is my twenty years little sister who left the Pack and decided to live on her own after she turned eighteen. We only got to see each other once in a blue moon, and guess what! She's a writer. I can count how many times we've seen each for the past two years since she left the Pack. She's always busy, and the same with me. I have no idea what caused the fight between her and the girl, but from what a source heard they were fighting over a man. Over a fucking bastard!"What's with that smile?" I
Chapter 60Clarissa POV "Come on, you should call him already," Charity says for the fifth time since we got home. She is sitting on the edge of the bed after she had her bath, and I just came out of the bathroom too."I told you I will do that when I'm about to sleep," I reply to her as I take the hand drier and set to dry my hair."Come on, just do that now. I will help you dry your hair when you are done. Do you want me to massage your back for you? Where is it hurting? Is it here? Here? Or here?" She asks as she touches my shoulders, and I shake my head."Fine, just get away from me. I will call him now," I push her off lightly, and she smiles."Alright. I will help you get your phone," She utters before she walks over to the bed and picks up the phone."Here, sweetheart," She grins from ear to ear as she hands me the phone, and I roll my eyes as I snatch it from her."Do you really think it's a good idea to call him this time? It's past 11pm, you know? I can leave it till tomorr
