Fiona’s POV…
Upon hearing the voice, I couldn’t believe my ears or eyes! The goddess has finally heard my cries. The stranger is awake; now his family will reward me handsomely for saving his life. I would do well to take him to his home as soon as possible; I didn’t have anything to feed him, nor did I have any more money for his treatment.
Oh! The goddess be praised! It’s a miracle he woke up so soon.
I hurriedly wiped my face using my hands and walked over to where he was. He’d sat up on my bed and looked around his surroundings strangely.
“Hello,” I said to him in a friendly manner. “My name is Fiona.”
I expected him to respond with something, but he just stared at me strangely, like he’d seen a ghost.
“What’s your name?” I asked him.
He closed his eyes as if trying to think of something, and then, “I... I don’t know.”
Is this some kind of expensive joke? How can a person not know their name?
I didn’t wish to sound harsh, but I desperately needed him to tell me something, anything that would help me locate his home so that his family could take over his responsibility and I could get my money back.
“What do you mean you don’t know? Where are you from?”
He only gave the same answer as before, “I don’t know.”
“What do you know then? Tell me anything about you. I found you lying in the woods unconscious. Do you know how you got there?”
“I don’t know… The last thing I saw before I blanked out was darkness, extreme darkness…. I don’t know anything before that.”
I was thankful for the long response, but not only was I frustrated that it brought me nowhere to know who he was, it also made me scared.
Seems I have brought a mad person into my house!
I got up and put on my shoes. I didn’t think before I ran out of the house searching for Inna. Only she would be able to tell me what was going on with the patient. It may be one of her herbs that made him act this way, or maybe he was a lunatic right before time. I just prayed it would be the former, and I also prayed that whatever herbs they were would wear off soon. This stranger was my only chance of survival.
***
I watched as Inna quietly examined him, she checked his temperature using the back of her palm, and then she checked the stitched-up area on his stomach. It still appeared red and swollen, but according to her, it would heal up soon.
I was mostly bothered by what her diagnosis of the strange behaviour would be; that was all I needed to know before I decided whether to drop him off. So much for getting all the money I spent on him back.
I watched as Inna began asking him questions, “So tell me, dear. Do you feel any pain?”
“Only where I got the stitches.”
She nodded her head, “that one is normal. I’m afraid we can’t do anything about that. Can’t afford enough painkillers to keep you sedated. But apart from that, are you feeling anything unusual?”
“No. I guess not.”
“That’s good. So now, about what happened earlier, what was it you said you remembered before you blacked out?”
“Darkness. Nothing but darkness, and then a pain so intense I felt my life getting sucked out of me. It felt as if something was killing me from the inside.”
Inna noted, “must be the poison. Anything else?”
“No. That’s all I remember before I closed my eyes.”
“And you say you don’t remember your name or even where you come from? Nothing?”
The stranger nodded his head, giving a positive answer to all of Inna’s questions.
Inna then got up from the stool. “Okay, dear, from the way you responded to all my questions without difficulty, it seems you are fine. No signs of insanity anywhere.” She let out the last sentence before she could stop herself.
“Wait. Did you think I was mad?”
“No, but someone did.”
I passed a glare in Inna’s direction as if to stop her from exposing me. She mind-linked me back.
“Don’t worry. I didn’t tell him anything.”
“Tell me what?” The stranger asked aloud.
Great goddess!!! Did he just tap into our mind-link? Ordinary omegas would never have such ability! It made me fear who this certain stranger could be. No doubt he would be of much higher ranking than we were.
“Ummm… Nothing…” I quickly said to save myself. “Inna will be taking her leave now. Let me escort her outside.”
I hurriedly pulled her hand and led her out of the house. Then I led her far away to a place I was sure our voices would not be heard.
“Did you see what just happened?” I asked her.
“Of course! Shocked me as much as it did you. He’s certainly not from around here. You’d better be careful around him and don’t mind-link anything he shouldn’t find out.”
“If he’s so powerful, how come he’s suffering from such mind damage?”
“It’s not mind damage, more like memory loss.”
I raised a brow, “memory loss? How come?”
“He was given a very strong lethal poison that nearly killed him. Memory loss happened to be one of its effects. His high rank explains how he was able to survive. An omega would have been long dead under the same circumstances.”
So what do you think he is? A gamma or a beta? Or even…” I gasped. “An alpha?”
Inna shook her head. “We can’t make conclusions until we become sure of his identity. Until the goddess regrants his memory, I’m afraid you will have no clue how to get him home.”
I nearly dropped to the floor, “what do I do now? I can’t keep holding on to him any longer! I am in debt and poor as hell. I don’t even have anything to feed him nor myself for the next couple of days.”
“I am sorry, Fiona. I don’t know why this happened, but I think the goddess chose you to save this man’s life for a reason. Maybe he needs protection from his family because the person who gave him that poison definitely knew what they were doing.”
“I can’t any longer. The goddess should find someone else! I can barely fend for myself not to talk of another person.”
Inna then brought up a suggestion. “Since he can’t return home now and you’re in debt. Maybe you could convince him to do some light labour to earn money for you both. He should be able to do something if he takes his medication properly, but not too much strenuous work!”
I thought of her idea; it actually sounded good in my ears. “That’s a wonderful idea, Inna. Thank you!”
“Good. He can search for work tomorrow, but let him eat well and rest for tonight.”
“Eat well and rest, huh? I can offer him my bed to rest, but not food. I’m afraid I don’t have that, even for myself.”
“Don’t worry about tonight, dear. I still have some leftover bread and cheese in my cupboard. It’s not so fresh, but safe to eat. If you don’t mind that, I can give it to you. It will be enough to feed you both for the night.”
“Thank you so much, Inna. Honestly, I don’t have many options at this point, so anything will do.”
“Well then, let’s go and get it.”
***
While we ate, I watched him handle the bread and cheese on his plate. The food seemed okay in my mouth, but to him, it felt as if he was eating from a pile of dirt.
No doubt, he was from a wealthy home, and no doubt, he was a stranger to poor men’s food.
I tried to start a conversation with him as I cleared up the plates.
“So now that you don’t know your name, and you have to be identified until you regain your memory, how about we do something about that?”
He raised a brow, “You want to give me a name?”
I nodded, “yes, just something temporary to call you while you are here. It doesn’t have to stick.”
“Okay. You can go ahead to give me a name. I can’t think of anything that will be fitting enough. Can you do that for me?
Of course, I would. I thought for a few moments for a new name for my guest. I didn’t think of anything deep or too complex, just something simple enough to call him until he remembered his real name.
“I will call you Chan!”
Fiona’s POV…After a long talk with Chan, it was finally time for bed. He became perplexed upon seeing me arrange my spot on the floor.“Where is your spare bed?” He asked me.I looked up, “oh, I don’t have one.” I answered.“Have you been sleeping on the floor because of me?”“Only the previous night. I let you sleep on mine since I had no spare bed. You don’t have to worry about me. At least, you can rest properly.”“Thank you for your hospitality, but I can’t keep letting you do that. I will return your bed tonight. Let me have the floor instead.”I objected, “no. Doctor Inna says you need to rest properly because of your medication. I am not the patient here; you are.”“And this is your house. I can’t keep taking your bed from you, Fiona. It’s just not fair.”“I was not complaining.”“Well, I am, and I will not be sleeping on your bed tonight, not while you sleep on the floor.”I sighed. No doubt this man is very stubborn in his real life.“Okay, you know what? The bed is not big,
Chan’s POV…I woke up to see the sleeping beauty right next to me. Her skin glowed like the bright sunlight escaping through her window blinds. She was golden, pure, and heartbroken, and I had just taken advantage of her vulnerable state. I felt like shit for doing that. This woman seemed like she’d been hurt by the people she’d trusted the most, the people who’d let her down. She had given me her trust by letting me be with her, but now I had to try to show her that I wouldn’t turn out to be one of those people.I could try, but heck! I didn’t even know who I was, to begin with. How do I know I won’t let he
Chan’s POV...After getting sacked in less than an hour, I was back in the marketplace. I tried thinking of something not too heavy for me to do to earn; I tried searching for hours, but unfortunately, I had no luck.I sighed. Fiona will be so disappointed if I couldn’t bring anything to the table tonight. It was almost evening time, and the market folks were already closing their stalls. Guess I could say I failed to find labour today, but maybe tomorrow will be better. I was about to head home when I remembered something else I had come out for asides from finding a job. It had to do with regaining my memory. I hurriedly opened my sack and brought out the clothes Fiona handed me this morning, the ones
Authors POV…Fiona was surprised to hear someone knocking on her door late at night. She was not expecting any visitors; she hardly had any.“Let me get it,” she told Chan as she walked away from the compartment and went over to open the door. She could not believe her eyes.“Hugo!” She growled, along with her wolf. If it were not for the sake of comportment and the man standing behind her, she would have attacked this idiot with everything in her.“Fiona, I know you’re mad at me, but please, just listen. I would not have come here if I had nothing good to say to you.”&n
Ronan’s POV…I took a deep breath and dropped my quill after finishing the letter. I then called in one of my guards.“Patrick!”He was standing just outside the door, so it didn’t take long for him to respond.“Yes, sir!” He called as he ran into my outer chamber. I handed the letter to him before giving my orders.“Send the messenger to go and deliver this immediately. The letter should be delivered to Fiona Marlan. She is a young peasant omega who resides in Abia, one of our sub-territories, just after the
Author’s POV…Upon entering his chambers after the meeting, Alpha King Ronan was met with a visitor.“Uncle.”“Oh, King Ronan. I must say your absence nearly scared us all to death! We were all worried about where you’d gone, or worse, if you’d even been killed. In fact, no one knew what to imagine. Praise be to the goddess for bringing you back safely!”“Thank you, uncle Callum. Thank you so much for keeping my throne safe while I was away.”“There is no need to thank me, my son. All I did
Ronan’s POV…I woke up in the middle of the night to find the space beside me empty. It made me wonder where Freya had gone.I got up, putting on my robe to search for her. I was about to leave the room when I heard sobbing sounds coming from our balcony. I immediately went there only to meet my wife, who had soaked her nightgown with tears.“Freya. Why are you crying at such a late hour?”Freya sniffed. “Don’t act as if you don’t know the very thing that has bothered me every night for over a decade!”&ldquo
Author’s POV…Ronan laid her on her back, sliding his body next to hers. His fingers ran through her hair as he looked into her eyes. His lips softly kissed her forehead, eyelids, nose, then chin… Slowly moving to the side, kissing her ear, then to the other side. His lips hovered above hers along the way, then finally to her lips. They kiss deeply, passionately as if they were breathing for each other, hungry with desire as if they had not eaten in days. As they kissed, their hands explored slowly, intimately, and deliberately. His hand eventually settled onto her ass, reaching around and cupping it firmly, pulling her in tight. His fingers pushed into the crease between her legs and pressed against her pussy as he felt the moistness soaking through her pants.
Ronan’s POVLouis let out his loud childish laugh as I tickled his side. It feels so good to finally get the chance to play with my child. We have gotten closer as it should be. He has stuffed himself with every sweet chewables the party has to offer. I have a feeling Isla would have a hard time putting him to bed.“So sorry, Your Highness. I will take him now.” Isla pleaded.“It is alright, Isla. Thank you. Where is my wife?”“She is getting changed.”“Alright, thank you.”After the usual open ceremony that involved every member of the Nestorian kingdom, Fiona was crowned as the Luna Queen. We returned to the palace to celebrate with a ball, ushering in anyone who desired to attend. Fiona made the most beautiful bride I have ever seen in her wedding dress. I wish we didn’t have to be so engaged in honoring our guests and just have her to myself.“Wow, he is, the man of the hour.” Timon teased sitting next to me.“I have been looking around for you. Where have you been?” I questioned.
Fiona’s POVI glanced discreetly at Ronan and smiled to myself. He looks much better than he was a month ago. When Lord Timon arrived with a carriage saying we were returning to the palace, I thought it was a joke. I had almost given up on the thought that we would ever get to return since Ronan never seemed to have an answer. When we arrived there was a lot of acknowledgment from the very people who didn’t care to see me. I never knew Ronan’s uncle and didn’t think too highly of him after hearing about all that he did. What I didn’t expect was the situation of Freya. It was okay when she plotted to have me dead, but shocking at her intention to kill Ronan. You never know what people are capable of. Dawn didn’t appear too concerned about the death of her father, but she finally got the chance to mourn her mother properly.I felt sorry for Dawn and Ronan, even though my experience wasn’t as epic as theirs. I do know what it feels like to have the ones you trust to play on your heart an
Ronan’s POVMy entire world felt like a lie. I still can’t get over everything that Elder Callum expressed. To think I felt guilty for ever suspecting him. All the while I had sleepless nights and battled for my life, he was plotting against me.“Why don’t you go back to the palace, Your Majesty, and let me sort this out,” Timon said.I shook my head feeling a nasty ache making its way to my head. “No, please, I want to see for myself.” I insisted. We were headed for Elder Callum’s house to search properly this time. Even though I still can’t get over the shock of all that he said and his death, I want to get a glimpse of everything. The house was agog when we arrived. All of the maids and guards looked on in fear as Timon and his men searched every room in the house. The remains of Aunt Celine were the first thing that was found. Callum had it wrapped up in a bag and put it into the room she had slept in when she was alive. It was obvious that it was her from the burnt remains of her
Author’s POVThere was an eerie feeling in the air as Ronan moved through the woods stealthily. He could sense some presence behind the thick bushes, and even though whoever it was did try to hide its scent, he caught a whiff of it and it almost seemed familiar. He should have listened to Timon who advised that he took a carriage to meet with his family. But something told him to go his usual route. He halted his steps to listen to be sure he heard right. All of sudden a big wolf matching his frame jumped at him from nowhere sinking his teeth into Ronan’s upper body, but he missed and only got to tear out a bit of his fur. Before he could get a grip on the situation, the attacker pushed him to the ground aiming for his neck vein. Ronan fought hard and gave the wolf a wild kick that sent him reeling backward.Ronan hurried to his feet, gnashing his teeth at his attacker. Just then the attacker shifted into their form leaving Ronan in shock. Callum turned out to be the one behind the wo
Ronan’s POVSomeone banged recklessly on the door waking me up roughly from my sleep. I have barely gotten an hour of sleep in. My mind has been laced heavily with thoughts that had prevented me from sleeping at the due time. Groaning, I sat up with my back bent. It's actually morning, how long was I asleep?Timon made his way in, bowing slightly towards me. “Your majesty,”“Really? Why would you hit on the door like that?” I questioned.“It was not my doing. Ava was at the door.”“Has she lost her mind? Where are the guards when you need them to do their jobs? Why wake me up so early in the morning?”“It's not exactly morning your majesty. It is way past noon. Are you alright? You don’t look well rested.”I rubbed my forehead, staring intently at the wall. “Something is coming, Timon. But I do not know what it is and my heart is burdened. I couldn’t get any sleep because of it. If anything goes wrong please protect my family.”He sighed. “Don’t be like that, we will resolve whatever
Ronan’s POV“Where is that bastard?” Levi yelled as he stormed my study.Three guards stood behind him ready to strike at my order. They must have restrained themselves since he is my in-law. I nodded towards them to excuse us. Timon gave me a questioning nod.“What is all this about Levi?” I inquired.“Oh, really? So you do not know what all this is about? Where is my sister, Ronan? Did you have your child bearer skin her alive? So what if she tried to kill her? Isn’t she an intruder in the first place? You should be ashamed of yourself for picking a mere stranger over your mate.” He ranted.I exchanged a confused look with Timon before looking back at the fuming man. “What you are saying now is that you do not see any wrong in what your sister did?”“Yes, and for what it is worth, you are to blame. If you didn’t turn away from her and make her feel unneeded she wouldn’t have gone that far. But what excuse do you have now that she is carrying your child and your child bearer is very
Author’s POV“Freya?” Callum called out. No response came. He rubbed at his neck in discomfort and moved closer. She was unmoving and blood appeared to be flowing from her head to the ground. He gulped hard and felt her pulse. Callum cursed under his breath at the eventuality of his action. Not only had her breath seized, she couldn’t be revived. Freya was dead. Covering his eyes with both hands, he groaned like a wounded lion. This wasn’t supposed to end like that. The only death he intends to have on his hands next is Ronan’s.His breath hitched at every passing second. Rising to his feet, he took in a deep breath to calm himself. There is no need to start hyperventilating when the deed has already been done. First, he has to get her cleaned up and find a way to dispose of her body, but then it will take a lot of work. If anyone gets to know that the queen is missing, it won’t take long for her to be traced down to him.Callum searched around for anything that would do to stuff her
Author’s POVFreya gasped for breath like she had been hit in the chest. Nothing prepared her for the murderous look in his eyes. She could sense the irritation in his expression. Her legs wobbled and her lips quivered. Ronan was supposed to be obsessed with her now that she was pregnant. He is meant to cherish her like no other. Instead, he appears to be disgusted by her.She pulled at her hair with shaky hands. A muffled scream escaped her lips, she tried hard to let it all out but nothing came. The tears rolled down her face, almost blinding her. Freya sat still just staring blankly into space. It is as if every time she tries to give Ronan a chance to amend his ways, he walks onto the destructive path.Regret creeps in as she thinks of Callum. He had been the only one who came to her rescue and assured her of a secure future. Instead of making sure their relationship is sealed and they have themselves to count on. She plotted his death. All because of Ronan. The more she thought a
Ronan’s POV“You didn’t find anything?” I asked Timon for the umpteenth time like my ears had gone deaf.He bowed his head, “I am sorry, Your Majesty. I must have gotten the wrong information.”Ruffling my hair, I sank onto the couch feeling an unexplained exhaustion. I had eventually hurried back to the palace in the hope that Timon would catch onto something. Even though we do have a missing knife to prove that my uncle had something to do with his friend's death, it is not enough to accuse him of killing his wife.Even though it doesn’t sound right, I am beginning to hope he might have a link to the enemy tormenting me. It probably was Elder James. What if my uncle was trying to defend me? Won’t it be wrong of me to be so hard on a person who is more like my parent?Timon dragged a foot on the ground. “Please say something.”I held his gaze, shrugging. “I really wish I could say something to you, but I do not know what to say. I must admit that I was eager to hear the outcome of yo
