Chapter One
I left my office early, as I usually did, to get dinner for my husband and myself as he does not have any means of income, and to pick up my child from school. When I arrived at the grocery store, there was a long queue, so I patiently waited for my turn. As soon as I was at the front of the line, I quickly grabbed the ingredients for dinner and headed to my son's school to pick him up. As soon as I picked him up from school, we headed home. We were both walking towards my room, when I heard some voices.I heard my husband voice, so I stopped walking straining to listen to the conversation “Go to the living room” I said to my son, and he complied. I continued walking towards my room, and I kept on hearing voices. “Harder harder” a feminine voice moaned. “You are so sweet, I am relief now, it been a long time I had a sweet s*x like this” “Why not let me stay over here, and be giving you different styles you want” Stunned and enraged, I tightened my grip on the groceries, my knuckles turning white. The sound of my husband’s infidelity cut through me like a knife, rekindling all the pain of his betrayal. “Stop it” I shouted at the top of my voice. “Hey Wiffy, I thought you had gone to your sister's place when I didn't see you, welcome back home” he said “Who is she?” The lady who was naked asked. “Just go, we'll talk later, okay?” “Alright” she said, taking up her dress from the matrimonial bed. I watched her with anger, as she put on her clothes, she left quietly. “Where's my son?” he asked lamely “Are you not feeling remorse or? I have heard it quite well but I decided not to believe, I had heard people talk about how you bring in different women to out matrimonial house” “Where is my son?" “Is that all you could ask for? Am I a fool to you? I go around everyday, I go to work to hustle, just to make sure you are fine, but then, you never act like you care. Now you removed my frame, my son frame and the family pictures just to bring in a wh$re, is that how you do every time I am not around? See who I go around borrowing money to please?” “I was expecting a day like this though, a day where you would talk about how you have been feeding me, since I stopped having means of income, I know for sure you would talk about it to everyone and you are not disappointing me, do you know what I expect next? For you to go to social media so everyone would know” “Is that what you have to say after I caught you with a woman? You are heartless Alex” “What do you get for me today?” He tried changing the conversation and taking up the things I bought, but I stopped him “I go to work everyday, but you are here bringing different ladies to our house, are you not tired? I am tired of this already, I pay for the child school fees and upkeep. I tried looking for work for you, but you kept rejecting it with the excuse that you can only work for six hours? Are you even a man?” “Can you just keep shut? Samson will hear you” he paused, and continued, “You need to cope having me around women, that's how we can stay married” “Is that a condition or? I had better divorce” “Divorce.. divorce?” he smiled and replied, “I have been waiting for that since, I don't want to be the first person to talk about it, I don't want something like after I helped him, after I fed him, he divorced me. So far you talked about it first, then I am glad” “I am sorry, I was only angry, I am sorry, for the sake of Samson please l, do not let us divorce” I don't even know, but I knelt down pleading. I didn't know when I said the word ‘divorce’. The fact that I caught him with a lady, I still do not want to be separated from him. He was my first boyfriend, and the guy who deflowered me. “You talked about it, Samson would move on so well, I want to be unmarried!” He left the room. I welled down in tears, my plan was to marry once, and to marry right but Alex has been the other way round. I do everything to please him and to make things right, but that was not the same to him, he kept on provoking me. “Daddy, what did you tell mum?” “Nothing, mum wants to be alone, she wants to live differently from me” “Why would she decide that? I know mum would never say that, mum can't live differently from you, she loves you so much but who is the lady who left? Is she your mistress” “She's a friend of mine, nothing more, a friend to your father!” He shunned. “Let me go and meet mum” he said, coming to where I was. I was hearing his light footsteps, so I cleaned up my face. “Samson, I will get you what to eat now, I am sure you are hungry” “No mum, I am not hungry, why are you crying?” “I am not crying Samson, I am just trying to get somethings done, probably it's because of the dust, mum is fine” “No mum, the room is clean” “Ooh! Mum is fine” “Promise me that we are not going to leave dad, dad said you are leaving him, and we would no longer live with him” I was shocked to hear that from him, I was only teasing, I do not know that he mean it I was heartbroken, I began to cry in the presence of my son. “Mum!! Don't cry, dad is cheating on you right? I know that since” He said, as we both started streaming in tears.Chapter Two Blake's Pov As I watched Marianne leave the next morning, a weight lifted from my shoulders. I couldn't pinpoint the exact emotion, but joy was certainly part of it. For months, I had longed to be free of her presence, but the fear of disappointing my parents had kept me from taking action. Now, with the divorce papers signed, I was finally rid of the burden that was my wife. "Good riddance," I muttered under my breath, turning away from the window. "Now I can finally move on with my life.” I called my boss at work and explained to him that I won't be coming to work today. Luckily, he accepted. I just want to celebrate today with my girlfriend. “Hello Grace, start coming, we need to celebrate, Marianne has left” I said as she picked up the call. “Whoa! I'll be right over” I ended the call and poured myself a drink. It was time to celebrate, after all. A knock at the door brought me back to reality. "Come in," I called, a smile spreading across my face.
Chapter Three:Marianne's POVAs I walked into my childhood friend's house, a sense of relief washed over me. It was a stark contrast to the turmoil I'd felt in my now-empty home."Welcome, Marianne," she said, her eyes shining with happiness. "I'm so glad you left that marriage. I was tired of seeing you trying to teach Blake how to love you. That's not how it's supposed to be.”“Thank you Anna. I have been waiting for him to change. Well, he made me signed the divorce paper, if not, I had be in that marriage if he hasn't pushed me to sign”“Whoa! I don't want to stay long, I need to start going to work. Take care of yourself Marianne. My house is your house”“Where do you work?”“Homeland company”My heart sank at the mention of Blake's company. “Oh! The same company my ex-husband works for?”“Yes, but at a different branch. At first when you told me about how he treated you. I doubt it, because he treats his colleagues with so much love. I have seen it myself when I went to his bra
Chapter FourMarianne's PovI woke up, sunlight filtering through the curtains. Despite my lingering pain, I felt a newfound determination. Today, I would submit my CV to apply for the position of accountant at Homeland Company. It was time to start over, to prove to myself that I was more than Blake's dutiful wife. I am a skilled accountant with a Ph degree, and I will be able to succeed with it.I rose from the bed, my feet hitting the cold floor with a soft thud.I made my way to the big bag, rooting through the contents in search of my CV."Good morning," Anna's voice broke the silence. "What are you looking for?”“You are awake, Good Morning. I am looking for my CV. I have made up my mind already, I am going to apply for the position of an accountant in a Homeland company” I said with boldness in my voice.“Whoa! That's very good. You made a good decision. A wise decision at that” Anna said, stretching her body.“Yeah, I really want to forget about him and I don't want us to talk
Chapter FiveI received an email that I was to start the next monday which is just three days away along with the information of the salary, which was very enticing.“Whoa! You are so lucky, I received a mail two months after the interview, and I am sure none of the workers was given work immediately after the for interview”“Thank you Anna” I said excitedly.“So what do you think about Mr. Thompson, the CEO”“I don't know, but I think I like him, he's handsome, stunning, tall….” I said blushing slightlyAnna burst out into laughter, “Don't even say that, you like who? Mr. Thompson? The CEO of Homeland company or another Thompson I am not aware of?”“No, same man I went to do interview in his company”“You must be joking, well jokes aside, you know you are not up to his standard, right?”“That aside, I am just after there to work as an accountant in his company not to gawk at him”“Better”****It was Monday, and I had reported to Homeland Company, dressed in my new clothes and heels,
Chapter SixI noticed she wasn't happy when she saw the message but there was nothing I could do.Anna's face betrayed her concern as she handed my phone back to me. “A dinner with the CEO? Marianne, are you sure about this?”“I didn’t ask for it. He just offered it as a thank you,” I said, trying to reassure her.“Still, it’s unusual. Are you sure you’re comfortable with this?” Anna pressed.“I think so. I’m just focusing on doing my job well,” I replied.“You can turn him down, I do not think he would get angry with that. Try to give yourself respect, value yourself”“Thank you Anna” I said, closing the conversation.***It was time for me to leave but I do not like the fact that Anna had been staring at me, as if she was expecting me to say somewhere.I went to the bathroom to take a bath.I came out, and I dressed up in a short and elegant gown. My gown wasn't looking too casual and not too formal.Anna watched me as I stepped out.“Goodbye, I'll be back soon” I tried saying in a
Chapter SevenThird Pov“It's okay here, it's late, you can't park here, you can turn back. I really appreciate everything sir, it worth more than what I did”“No, it's not worth it. You didn't know what you did that is the reason you are saying this”“Thank you” Marianne said as she opened the car door.As she came down from the car, Thompson also opened the car, and came down. “No, I can't allow you to go to your house alone by this time. It's late already”“But I am sure your house is still kind of far from where I stay. Mine is just ten minutes walk from here”“Don't worry, I'll escort you” he said, locking his door."It's really not necessary," Marianne tried again, her voice soft but firm. "I can manage, and I don't want to keep you out late."Thompson smiled, but there was a certain determination in his eyes. "I wouldn't feel right letting you walk alone at this hour. It's only a short walk, right?"Marianne hesitated, unsure of how to decline without seeming ungrateful. She n
Chapter Eight It was the next morning, Marianne was still asleep when Anna had woke up to prepare for work already. The sound of her plates crumble, woke Marianne up. Marianne stretched her hand as she woke up, “Why are you dressed this early? What's the time” she took up her phone to check the time “It's 7:30 am and I am still sleeping” she said as she removed the duvet from her body, running to the bathroom. “Why didn't you wake me up, Anna?” Marianne said, while running to the bathroom. “I forgot,” she said, rushing her food. Minutes after Marianne came out of the bathroom, “Probably because I came back late yesterday, the time is going already” Anna drank water, and took her bag from the table, “I am going to be going now, see you later” she said and exited the door. Marianne was rushing that she couldn't eat. She left home and to Anna surprised she got there before her. Marianne reached the office, feeling slightly disoriented from her rushed morning. She w
Chapter Nine “Good Morning sir, I am sorry for disturbing you boss I came to drop a file regarding the ongoing project.Mr. Thompson cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure. “Good morning, Anna. Thank you. I’ll review this later.”Anna looked at Marianne who was standing and trying to gain her composure after the kiss.Anna smiled, “Marianne, is everything alright?”“Yes, everything is fine,” Marianne said, forcing a smile. “I was just discussing my new role here with Mr. Thompson and trying to remove the dirt's in his lips same time”Anna’s eyes narrowed slightly, sensing there was more to the conversation. “I see. Well, if you need any assistance or have questions about your new role, don’t hesitate to ask.”“Thank you, Anna. I’ll keep that in mind,” Marianne said, still trying to mask her discomfort.Anna left the office, casting one last curious glance at Marianne and Mr. Thompson before closing the door behind her.As the door clicked shut, Marianne turned to Mr. Thom
You'll be dead when I return. And when I'm back, you wouldn't like how your story would end!" He let out, as I heard him walking away. The police arrived almost immediately he walked off."Hello, Avia." I said, trying to keep my voice from shaking. "He might come for you, just like he did me. He even had a bunch of spare keys! Luckily for me, I guess the key didn't fit!" I exclaimed."Oh my goodness, I think you should move in with us till everything is settled, till he's handed over to the police. You can't play gamble with your life. Because if he kills you, the worst that could happen is him being executed.""But you'll be long dead and gone before then. So you need to try to be as logical as possible." She adviced. "I know. But I also know that staying at your place, that's a different level of inconvenience. I don't want to put you through that." I said."Not in this life or another, would you ever inconvenience me. Please never say that again, you are a sister to me and you prov
"Do you feel better now?" I heard her mother ask her. "Better, mother." She said, weakly, looking around, as if still feeling like they were still being watched or followed."I'll be on my way now, Avia. Please get well soon." I said, getting up to leave. I knew I had overstayed and my job might be paying for that soon. "That's... That's... Okay, I'm grateful! Thanks you so much for staying around!" She said, her voice now shaky."Oh come off it, stop now or you're gonna make me tear up too." I said, getting emotional already. "I have to say what's on my mind. I didn't see it coming at all. How you were there for me. Fought and defended me." She said."That's just how I am, and you're not an enemy of course." I said, "What would you have rather had me do? Stay there and watch you die?" I joked, "now come over here!" I said, as we embraced each other. We held each other tightly for the following seconds, soaking in our emotions and just being grateful that she was alive."Thank you." S
"Is there really anything good about the afternoon?." He replied, not bothering that someone else was now in the room. "How may I help you?" I asked, spiting him, "oh you!" He said, in composed excitement. "What a small world." He said, under his breath, not knowing that I heard him."She?" I asked, pointing in her direction, "yeah. If I get what you mean." He answered, a pale countenance sweeping through his face. "Okay?" I asked, "why are you here?" I asked, looking squarely at him."Is there a rule that says I can't?" He asked, goofingly. "I expect you to know that." I said coldly, "you have overstayed your welcome. You can now use the door." I said."You're in no position to order me around," he said. "But I am, this is a health facility. I'm in charge, and I now inform you, you have overstayed your welcome." The doctor said from behind us.He turned slowly, walking out in a cold manner. "How did he even get in here in the first place?" The doctor asked, turning to face me. "I don
Almost immediately, the doctor arrived, he was checking Avia with his stethoscope, she was now calm and stabilized. It looked strange that she had begun to convulse, after being confirmed okay by the doctor."She's stabilized now." He let out, heading out, "please hold on, Doctor, what... What if the convulsion starts again?" I asked, my heart racing within me. "She won't, he replied dismissingly.I watched her intently, counting her breathe, hoping the convulsion wouldn't start again. She seemed to be sleeping sweetly, it however got strange and weird when she had been sleeping for the following hours.I was now concerned and had to call the doctor's attention. Her family were still there too. "She's in stable condition," he said, sure."But she's been sleeping for too long now." I asked, concerned, he went on, checking her pulse repeatedly, she still looked like she was asleep. At this point we could already sense everything wasn't okay."Doctor! What's the matter," I asked, frantic
"I can't forget the sweet mother she was to us. She showed us so much love and motherly care. Loosing her was a huge blow to all of us. So I was taken aback when my father seemed happy about her passing." He explained."At rare times, he tried to feign mourning her, which didn't work because he wasn't one to pretend. So it was always crystal clear what he thought or felt." He explained."The scariest part is that I walked in on him, on a phone call, he was talking about a body. I left almost immediately when I noticed he didn't see me walk in and listened on. I didn't want to draw any conclusions based on what I heard, but I feel he was talking about a human body.""My goodness! What human body??" I asked, frantic. "Any chances it could be Nadia's?" I asked, not letting him land. "It just might be. The voice he was speaking with on the phone appeared to be a woman's voice." He added."A woman's voice?" I exclaimed, "how were you close enough to hear this and not close enough for him t
"I apologize sincerely!" I let out, trying to avoid hitting more persons. My eyes met those of the voice I was hearing."Mark!" I exclaimed, "what are you doing here?" I asked, stretching out my hand for a handshake. "Oh, not something I'll want to talk about." He said, as we shook hands, his facial expression changing."You look sad all of a sudden, what's the matter?" I asked, as we slowly moved to a chair close by to sit. "There's no matter." He lied, pointing his nose. "Yeah, go on, you need to do exactly what you're doing now." I said, casting a goofy glance at him."Do what?" He asked, looking intently at me. "Point your nose. You know what happens to Pinocchio huh?" I joked, looking squarely at him. "Oh there you go! Goofy you!" He let out, laughing. "You look better, happy." I said, looking intently at him."Oh.... Yeah, who doesn't?" He said, nervously, adjusting his shirt which wasn't disarranged. "You look bothered, and you know you're not good at hiding things like these."
"You should ask someone else, I know nothing. You have no right whatsoever to hold me hostage, I'm as innocent as the word innocent. Let me go!" She let out.She looked modest, no one would imagine she could have such a wicked heart. She was also soft spoken,so it was very hard to tell she was a goofy lady, who enjoyed seeing others in pain.As we conversed, speaking about some painful scenarios, including the pain Nadia might have undergone, seeing what the autopsy was showing, she seemed to enjoy talking about the pain of others, and that was a very bad sign, a huge indicator that something was wrong somewhere."Of course we'll let you go, after you've answered all needed questions." The officer insisted. "I committed no crime." She said, "What happened to your friend? That's all we want to know." He asked. "She was suicidal." She let out, in an unreal manner."Suicidal? Is that all you knew about your friend?" He asked, we'll be taking you to the station now for further questioning
"My mind was beclouded by the fact that she was in pains, she was suffering from a terminal disease like I told you." I explained, looking queerly at him. "That's just a lead, we need to get to the root of the matter." He added, looking intently at me."I spoke with her bosses, those she worked for, and they said she was very fine the day before." I said, I could see through to the fact that he wasn't satisfied. "I know that Nadia was ill, but I don't know of any complaint from work. She enjoyed her work as much as I knew.Days had now passed and I hadn't seen Mark at the office. His father, now had two offices, his and theirs. I wanted to ask what the problem was but I didn't even know where to start from or how it'll come off to him, so I let it slide.I received a call from a strange number. I was glad and sure it might be Mark, "Hello, May dear, how are you doing?" The voice asked. "I-I am okay, who's on the phone please?""This is Nati, I know you don't know me but I really need t
"Can you kindly let me know why you are in my office?" He asked, I noticed his shirt looked like it was hurriedly arranged, and she looked like she was drawn down from a mountain, just when she was close to it's peak."I would love to speak with you and your brother." I let out, impressed at myself at how easily I was able to cook up something."Hmmm... That's huge, I hope no problems?" He asked, his eyebrows raised, as he adjusted his shirt better. "Not at all. Just family business. I'll want to be speaking with the both of you, alone." I said, with emphasis on the word 'alone', throwing disgusting glances at her."Alright. Honey would you please excuse us for the moment?" He said to her, I watched satisfyingly as she pushed herself out of the office. She didn't want to go, but she had no choice."The floor is yours now, so please go on. I'll send a staff to get my brother, right away." He said, "okay, even better. I'll be waiting." I added, taking a seat.In no time Mark was in the
