Isabel’s POV

Emerson’s jaw clenched. He was clearly at a loss. A subtle flash of panic crossed his usually calm blue eyes. “Who told you that?”

I folded my arms, raising an eyebrow. “You really think I needed someone to tell me? I’m a clever girl, Emerson. You come home with a stab wound, and the next day my father’s doctor miraculously appears? Don’t insult me by acting like I wouldn’t put two and two together.”

He narrowed his eyes, suspicion lacing his expression as he considered my words. Then he seemed to connect the dots himself. His face hardened. “It was Michael, wasn’t it? That son of a—”

Before I could stop him, he grabbed the landline phone. The muscles in his forearm tensed as he reached to dial. I caught his hand firmly, feeling the warmth of his skin as I steadied my gaze on him.

“Emerson,” I said, my voice soft but unwavering, “grow up. This isn’t about playing the blame game. We need to talk. Like adults.”

His blue eyes met mine, and for a moment, the hardness softened.

Emerson’s POVIsabel’s gaze bore into me, her eyes glinting with that determined fire that both thrilled and unnerved me. She was sitting in my chair, looking as if she owned the place. I hadn’t anticipated any of this—not her finding out about Alistair, her father’s doctor, or how she would demand the truth from me.Her actions today had completely caught me off guard. She had shaken me to my core. When she got so close, wrapping her arms around my neck… My god, I didn’t know what to do with myself. Her voice cut through my thoughts. "I need to know the truth, Emerson," she repeated. "About Alistair, Lilith, everything."Her words pulled me back to that night. I had faced Alistair Montrose in his mountain estate. My heart pounded in my chest even now, as I recalled the events. I had gone there to strike a deal, knowing that only a man like him could stand between Isabel and any chance of peace. I didn’t expect him to be so… heavily protected. The estate was more fortress than home.

Isabel’s POVWe sat in silence in Emerson's vast office, perched at the top of the gleaming building. Its floor-to-ceiling windows opened up to the sprawling skyline of Rivermont. I could feel the quiet power of this space, with the leather-bound books, sleek decor, and polished surfaces. All of it whispered of authority and control. And there I was, seated in his imposing office chair. Today, it felt like I had finally gained a measure of that control myself. Or so I thought. But now, Emerson was seated across from me, seemingly lost in thought. He still hadn’t given me any answers. I tapped my fingers on the glass-topped desk, watching the clock as the seconds ticked by.Emerson’s eyes were distant. As if he was wrestling with something he couldn’t—or wouldn’t—share. After what felt like an eternity, I could no longer tolerate the silence. Every second he refused to answer me, I felt my patience wear thin. I sighed. He finally glanced at me, as if he just remembered I was still the

Isabel’s POVEmerson glared at her, clearly frustrated at the sudden interruption. The woman was flustered. Her gaze darted between Emerson and me. An awkward tension hung in the air. “Who gave you permission to enter my office like this? Without even having the decency to knock?” he asked, his voice low and threatening. Her cheeks turned bright red and her apologies came in a rush. "I’m so sorry to interrupt, Mr. Williams. I… it’s just—this is urgent.”Emerson’s mouth pressed into a thin line. He took a long, steadying breath before nodding curtly. “Alright. Go on.”“It's about the photographer, Claire,” the woman said, her voice tense. “She had an accident in the restroom—slipped and fell. The doctors are worried… she’s at risk of miscarrying. She’s being taken to the hospital now.”The news hit like a cold slap, the kind that ripples outward in icy waves. Memories of my own fall and miscarriage flooded me. I felt a pang of compassion for the woman and hoped she would meet a kinder

Isabel’s POVEmerson looked at me with a strange mix of disbelief and excitement. His mouth quirked up in a half-smile, as though he couldn’t fully contain his surprise. “Are you serious, Isabel?” he said, his voice both soft and eager, like he was afraid I might take it back. “We have… a chance?”I gave him a cool look, wary of showing too much emotion. “Only if things are different this time.”Emerson nodded quickly, his face lighting up. “Whatever you want. Tell me what it’ll take, and I’ll make it happen.”I let the silence linger for a moment, letting him think over his own promise. Then I said, “I want to work, Emerson. I need something real. My own freedom.” I didn’t tell him the full truth—that with the freedom to work, I’d be able to implement my plans more easily. That was for me alone to know.He seemed to consider this for a second, tilting his head in that familiar, calculating way. “Fine. But you’ll work here. In my company.” His gaze sharpened, studying my reaction. “T

Isabel’s POV“Excuse me, ma’am,” Emerson’s voice came from behind me, smooth but laced with a certain edge. “Isabel is part of my team,” he continued, adding just the faintest touch of authority. His gaze flicked to me, a possessive glint in his eye. “But I appreciate the interest.”The magazine editor glanced between us, her brow arching as if she could sense the simmering tension beneath the polished surfaces. She shifted her attention to me with a knowing smile. “Alright,” she said coolly, but as she turned, she slipped a card into my hand, her voice just above a whisper. “Call me if anything changes.”Emerson’s jaw tightened. The card in my palm suddenly felt like a rebellion, a small act of defiance I wasn’t sure I’d have followed through on, but it made his reaction all the more interesting. After the shoot, he insisted on driving me back to the estate himself. The car was quiet as we pulled onto the long driveway, the hum of the engine almost soothing—if it weren’t for the cons

Isabel’s POVHe hesitated, swallowing as if debating whether to go on, and finally took a deep breath.“Goodnight,” he said softly, letting his hand fall back to his side. And with that, he stepped back, allowing me to pass, but not without one last look that left me breathless. As I walked away, my mind raced, uncertainty and frustration weaving through me. I had a plan, I reminded myself. And nothing—no lingering glances, no fleeting touches—was going to pull me off course.I tried to shake it off as I moved through the hall, heading for the elevator. But as soon as I rounded the corner, I nearly collided with a colleague who’d been hurrying past.“Oh!” she exclaimed, pulling back. Then she offered a strange, knowing smile. “Late-night chat with the boss?”I managed a polite smile, though I could feel heat rise to my cheeks. She held my gaze a beat too long, as if searching for something I wasn’t offering. My cheeks flushed further, but I said nothing. After a pointed look, she walk

Isabel’s POVIn the break room, I glanced around at the gathered group, mostly women. They were all watching the confrontation unfold with expressions ranging from amusement to curiosity. I took a slow breath, setting my coffee down on the counter with a deliberate calm. The tension was palpable.“Let me clear something up for you,” I said, my voice even, though my heart beat like a drum. “I was offered this role because of my skills as a photographer. If you have any doubts, feel free to watch me work today. You’ll find I’m more than capable of handling the job.” I met their eyes one by one, daring them to say otherwise. The two ringleaders exchanged a glance. The taller of the two opened her mouth to retort. But before she could get a word out, a voice came from the back of the room.“Honestly, cut it out.” A woman stepped forward, crossing her arms. She was petite, with a sleek hazel ponytail and a no-nonsense expression. “Maybe you’ve all forgotten what professionalism looks like

Isabel’s POVEmerson’s gaze swept the room, taking in the tense atmosphere. His brow furrowed as he assessed the situation. His eyes found mine. They softened for a brief moment before his composed mask fell back into place.Beside me, Sarah cleared her throat, arms crossed tightly. Her irritation was practically radiating from her.“Emerson, I’ll be frank,” she said, a tightness to her voice. “The final edits Isabel submitted didn’t meet our standards. The lighting was off, there were typos—frankly, it was amateur work.” Her expression softened as she looked at Emerson, but it was clear she held no such mercy for me. “This isn’t what I expect from my team.”I opened my mouth to respond, to explain that I hadn’t completed the final edits. But Emerson interrupted with a calm nod.“I’ll handle it, Sarah,” he said with quiet authority. “Let’s meet with the client later and discuss compensations. For now, I’d like a word with Isabel.”He motioned for me to follow him out of the studio. Th

  • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 436 - Trained For This

Isabel’s POVCarter first sent a team of soldiers to probe the enemy’s defenses. The plan was simple: test the waters, gauge their numbers, and avoid unnecessary bloodshed before reinforcements arrived. But what they found was far worse than expected.“These are not just Alistair’s usual lackeys,” Carter murmured, lowering his binoculars. “The numbers far exceed our expectations. And what’s worse: these men are seasoned fighters. Most of them have appeared on international wanted lists… multiple times.”Emerson, standing beside him, clenched his fists. “That bastard really went all in.”I narrowed my eyes, straining to make out the details from our vantage point on the rocky hillside. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the rugged terrain. The distant compound was a maze of dilapidated buildings, high fences, and scattered patrols. From here, it was impossible to tell how many men were stationed inside. But it was clear we were up against more than just a handful

Sebastian/Elias’s POVI stood there, rooted to the spot, watching the scene unfold before me. The sterile, cold walls of the laboratory pressed in around me.Alistair’s voice broke the silence, a hint of pride echoing through his words. “This is my proudest work! Thanks to your potions, Scarlet.” His tone was a mix of admiration and satisfaction, as if he had just achieved the culmination of a long and arduous project.Scarlet’s gaze flickered to me, her sharp eyes assessing the situation with cold precision. There was no mistaking it: she was shocked I hadn’t escaped yet. She must be wondering if her antidote had failed. Then, without warning, she lunged forward, grabbing Alistair by the collar with a force that was both unexpected and dangerous. Her voice was low, a warning laced with venom. “I’m telling you, don’t touch my nephew! Otherwise, I’ll make sure you never stand again!” Her words were like a promise, a threat wrapped in maternal protection. But there was something more

  • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 434 - Preparing for War

Emerson’s POVI sat in the car, fingers drumming absently against the steering wheel as my mind churned through everything that had happened. The weight of it all pressed down on my shoulders like an iron grip. Lilith’s confessions, Elias’s predicament, the looming confrontation with Alistair—it was a tangled mess of threats and uncertainties. Every second that passed only heightened the tension coiling in my chest.A sharp knock on the window pulled me from my thoughts. I turned to see Carter standing outside, his sharp gaze scanning the area. I rolled the window down, and he wasted no time.“I heard you caught a woman? How is she involved in this?” he asked, his voice even but laced with curiosity.I exhaled and nodded, stepping out of the vehicle. My eyes swept the surroundings instinctively, old habits keeping me cautious even in relatively safe zones. Carter caught on immediately.“Margot’s with Isabel back at the base,” he assured me. “We can talk there.”I gave him a curt nod,

Isabel’s POVWe delayed our mission. Lilith's intel might be significant and give us clues on how to proceed. In the interrogation room, Lilith sat handcuffed to the chair, her face twisted with a mixture of defiance and resignation. I stood behind the mirrored glass, my arms crossed tightly over my chest, trying to steady my breathing. Emerson and one of his men sat across from her, their expressions unreadable. The tension in the room was thick, palpable."Talk," Emerson commanded, his voice cold.Lilith smirked, leaning back as if the shackles meant nothing to her. "Where do I begin?" she mused, tilting her head. "Maybe with the fact that I was Lila all along?"My stomach dropped. I clenched my fists, forcing myself to stay rooted to the spot. I knew it. But I’d never expected to hear her say it aloud. My mind reeled as Lilith continued."Alistair took me after you thought I’d died," she said, her tone shifting into something bitter. "He changed me—physically, mentally. His damned

Isabel’s POVCarter and Emerson bent over the map, their voices low but intense as they laid out the plan. The dimly lit tent smelled of sweat, gun oil, and the anticipation of an impending fight. My fingers tightened into fists at my sides. I refused to be left behind.“We move in small teams,” Carter was saying. “Margot and I will take a group to circle around and cover you. The reinforcements are still a few hours out, so we’ll have to be careful.”Emerson nodded, his expression unreadable. “I’ll lead a team ahead to scout their positions.”“I’m going with you.” The words left my mouth before I could second-guess them.Emerson’s head snapped toward me, his brows furrowing. “No. It’s too dangerous.”I squared my shoulders. “I didn’t train for years on that island just to sit in the shadows while you go off to fight. I’m stronger than ever now, and you know it.”He exhaled through his nose, his fingers flexing at his sides as if fighting the urge to grab my arm and shake some sense i

  • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 431 - Weighing Risks

Isabel’s POVI couldn’t shake the image of Eric’s disappointed eyes from my mind. The way he had looked at me—like I was making the worst mistake of my life—had been haunting me ever since I rejected his offer.Although returning home with him and bringing the twins sounded like a dream, I couldn’t risk any danger following us.“Isabel, do you even hear yourself?” Eric had asked, his voice thick with disbelief. He gestured at Emerson. “Haven’t you learned your lesson with him?”I had known this conversation would be difficult, but seeing the pain on his face still cut deeper than I had expected. To him, my decision wasn’t just reckless—it was a betrayal. He had spent so much time trying to protect me, trying to give me an escape, only for me to walk right back into the fire.“This isn’t about Emerson,” I had explained, forcing my voice to remain steady. “It’s about unfinished business, Eric. I can’t leave Rivermont. Not yet.”He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “Isabel, I’m begging

Sebastian/Elias’s POVScarlet’s voice was razor-sharp, slicing through the tension-laden air. “I never meant for my nephew to be dragged into your web of danger, Alistair.” Her eyes burned with a fury I hadn’t seen before. Yet there was something else lurking beneath it—regret. Guilt.Alistair, as always, was unimpressed. He gave a dismissive wave, his mouth curling into an infuriating smirk. “Spare me the theatrics, Scarlet. He dragged himself into this when he started meddling with my operation. You want to play the remorseful aunt now? Too late.” His gaze turned to me, and his voice took on a condescending edge. “You should be thanking her, Elias. She’s the one who made those delightful little concoctions running through your veins.”Scarlet stiffened, but she didn’t deny it. “I never gave you permission to use them on my family members.“And since when do I ask for permission?” Alistair sighed, as if the conversation bored him. “Since you’re so concerned, why don’t you give him

Sebastian/Elias's POVThe basement was the same as ever—cold, damp, and stinking of rust and decay. Dust swirled in the dim light from the single flickering bulb, casting erratic shadows on the cracked stone walls. But this time, I wasn’t the one in chains.“Kill him.” Alistair’s voice was sharp and commanding, his outstretched hand pointing at a young man kneeling a few feet away. He couldn’t have been much older than nineteen, his face drawn and gaunt from fear. His chains rattled as he tried to inch backward, but there was nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide.I didn’t hesitate.I lunged forward, my foot connecting with his chest before he could react. He crumpled to the ground with a strangled gasp. Without missing a beat, I dropped to one knee, my hands locking around his throat. His pulse fluttered beneath my fingers, his breath hitching as I tightened my grip.He struggled—weakly at first, then more desperately, his fingers clawing at my wrists. But I was stronger. Faster. Lilith’s POV"What? You want to change back to your old face?"The woman in front of me didn't even look up as she spoke, her voice laced with contempt and utter boredom. She was in her fifties, yet not a single wrinkle marred her flawless skin. Her body, toned and striking, was a testament to her wealth and vanity. She sat elegantly on the edge of a metal counter, her fingers idly playing with a small vial of serum. The dim, sterile light of the underground lab reflected off the glass, casting eerie patterns across the walls.I clenched my fists. Of course, she wouldn’t take me seriously—not at first. But I was done playing games."I’ve completed the task my father gave me," I said, my voice steady, though my stomach twisted with unease. "I no longer want to bear this disgusting face."That got her attention. Scarlet finally turned to face me, a slow, amused smirk curling her lips. She tilted her head slightly, as if studying me for the first time."Completed?" she repeated mockingl
