Isabel’s POV

Emerson glared at her, clearly frustrated at the sudden interruption. The woman was flustered. Her gaze darted between Emerson and me. An awkward tension hung in the air.

“Who gave you permission to enter my office like this? Without even having the decency to knock?” he asked, his voice low and threatening.

Her cheeks turned bright red and her apologies came in a rush. "I’m so sorry to interrupt, Mr. Williams. I… it’s just—this is urgent.”

Emerson’s mouth pressed into a thin line. He took a long, steadying breath before nodding curtly. “Alright. Go on.”

“It's about the photographer, Claire,” the woman said, her voice tense. “She had an accident in the restroom—slipped and fell. The doctors are worried… she’s at risk of miscarrying. She’s being taken to the hospital now.”

The news hit like a cold slap, the kind that ripples outward in icy waves. Memories of my own fall and miscarriage flooded me. I felt a pang of compassion for the woman and hoped she would meet a kinder

Isabel’s POVEmerson looked at me with a strange mix of disbelief and excitement. His mouth quirked up in a half-smile, as though he couldn’t fully contain his surprise. “Are you serious, Isabel?” he said, his voice both soft and eager, like he was afraid I might take it back. “We have… a chance?”I gave him a cool look, wary of showing too much emotion. “Only if things are different this time.”Emerson nodded quickly, his face lighting up. “Whatever you want. Tell me what it’ll take, and I’ll make it happen.”I let the silence linger for a moment, letting him think over his own promise. Then I said, “I want to work, Emerson. I need something real. My own freedom.” I didn’t tell him the full truth—that with the freedom to work, I’d be able to implement my plans more easily. That was for me alone to know.He seemed to consider this for a second, tilting his head in that familiar, calculating way. “Fine. But you’ll work here. In my company.” His gaze sharpened, studying my reaction. “T

Isabel’s POV“Excuse me, ma’am,” Emerson’s voice came from behind me, smooth but laced with a certain edge. “Isabel is part of my team,” he continued, adding just the faintest touch of authority. His gaze flicked to me, a possessive glint in his eye. “But I appreciate the interest.”The magazine editor glanced between us, her brow arching as if she could sense the simmering tension beneath the polished surfaces. She shifted her attention to me with a knowing smile. “Alright,” she said coolly, but as she turned, she slipped a card into my hand, her voice just above a whisper. “Call me if anything changes.”Emerson’s jaw tightened. The card in my palm suddenly felt like a rebellion, a small act of defiance I wasn’t sure I’d have followed through on, but it made his reaction all the more interesting. After the shoot, he insisted on driving me back to the estate himself. The car was quiet as we pulled onto the long driveway, the hum of the engine almost soothing—if it weren’t for the cons

And with that, he stepped back, allowing me to pass, but not without one last look that left me breathless. As I walked away, my mind raced, uncertainty and frustration weaving through me. I had a plan, I reminded myself. And nothing—no lingering glances, no fleeting touches—was going to pull me off course.I tried to shake it off as I moved through the hall, heading for the elevator. But as soon as I rounded the corner, I nearly collided with a colleague who’d been hurrying past.“Oh!” she exclaimed, pulling back. Then she offered a strange, knowing smile. “Late-night chat with the boss?”I managed a polite smile, though I could feel heat rise to my cheeks. She held my gaze a beat too long, as if searching for something I wasn’t offering. My cheeks flushed further, but I said nothing. After a pointed look, she walk

Isabel’s POVIn the break room, I glanced around at the gathered group, mostly women. They were all watching the confrontation unfold with expressions ranging from amusement to curiosity. I took a slow breath, setting my coffee down on the counter with a deliberate calm. The tension was palpable.“Let me clear something up for you,” I said, my voice even, though my heart beat like a drum. “I was offered this role because of my skills as a photographer. If you have any doubts, feel free to watch me work today. You’ll find I’m more than capable of handling the job.” I met their eyes one by one, daring them to say otherwise. The two ringleaders exchanged a glance. The taller of the two opened her mouth to retort. But before she could get a word out, a voice came from the back of the room.“Honestly, cut it out.” A woman stepped forward, crossing her arms. She was petite, with a sleek hazel ponytail and a no-nonsense expression. “Maybe you’ve all forgotten what professionalism looks like

Isabel’s POVEmerson’s gaze swept the room, taking in the tense atmosphere. His brow furrowed as he assessed the situation. His eyes found mine. They softened for a brief moment before his composed mask fell back into place.Beside me, Sarah cleared her throat, arms crossed tightly. Her irritation was practically radiating from her.“Emerson, I’ll be frank,” she said, a tightness to her voice. “The final edits Isabel submitted didn’t meet our standards. The lighting was off, there were typos—frankly, it was amateur work.” Her expression softened as she looked at Emerson, but it was clear she held no such mercy for me. “This isn’t what I expect from my team.”I opened my mouth to respond, to explain that I hadn’t completed the final edits. But Emerson interrupted with a calm nod.“I’ll handle it, Sarah,” he said with quiet authority. “Let’s meet with the client later and discuss compensations. For now, I’d like a word with Isabel.”He motioned for me to follow him out of the studio. Th

Isabel’s POVAs I watched Emerson’s figure fade down the hallway, I couldn’t help but let out a deep sigh. It seemed that no matter what we did, we couldn’t escape the tangled web that lay between us. Everything felt too close, too intense. Despite the professional environment, our history together was impossible to ignore. For a brief moment, I wondered if it was always going to be this way—complicated, layered with memories that resurfaced, and heavy with the tension we refused to address.I shook my head and had a quick lunch, then returned to the studio. Sarah was standing by the editing screens, her brows knit in irritation as she reviewed the final edits that Eve had made. Even though she had been fired for her betrayal, Eve had left us with a mess that we couldn’t ignore—her disastrous work had offended one of our biggest clients.Sarah’s face was lined with frustration, and I could see the weight of the situation bearing down on her.“I can fix it if you need,” I offered gen

Isabel’s POVThe atmosphere in the room was stifling, charged with a strange tension as Lilith’s slanted green eyes locked onto me. She leaned back in her chair. Her lips curled into a slow, deliberate smile. As if she were savoring a private joke. Everything about her was perfectly controlled, from her posture to her immaculate hair. She looked like she had stepped out of a polished ad. It was unsettling, to say the least.“So,” Lilith’s voice was smooth, dangerous, “the question we should really be asking, Isabel, is... what are you still doing in Emerson’s life?”I forced myself to keep my composure, though my stomach churned. Her gaze felt like a spotlight, pinning me in place. I wanted to scoff, to tell her I wouldn’t be anywhere near Emerson if I had any choice in the matter. But I kept my mouth shut, choosing my words carefully. “I didn’t realize you were the client,” I said, keeping my tone as neutral as I could manage.Lilith let out a laugh, light and mocking. “Oh, but why

She let out a curse under her breath as she looked down at the parking lot, spotting his sleek black car. “Damn it. We need to move. Now.”I felt a surge of hope. Emerson was here. But that relief was short-lived as the guards grabbed me by the arms. Their iron grips tightened as they started to drag me forward. I struggled, twisting and pulling against them. “Let me go!” I shouted, hoping Emerson would hear my voice. But the guards simply yanked me harder, dragging me along after Lilith and Eve.As we climbed the stairs, my heart pounded. • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 287 - Beneath the Hospital Lights

Isabel’s POVThe hospital waiting room was an unrelenting purgatory. Its silence was broken only by the occasional murmur of voices. The harsh fluorescent lights bathed everything in a cold, artificial glow. The smell of antiseptic clung to the air. My hands, still stained with Emerson’s blood, were trembling slightly in my lap. No matter how much I had tried to scrub them clean in the bathroom earlier, the stains seemed etched into my skin. And yet, there was something else. Something clawing at the edges of my mind, whispering a truth I didn’t want to acknowledge. Maybe, just maybe, I wasn’t as indifferent to Emerson’s survival as I wanted to believe.I clenched my hands into fists, trying to suppress the thought. He was a man who had caused me immeasurable pain. A man who had lied, betrayed, and abandoned me. But when I saw him bleeding out, his life slipping away, it was as if all that hatred had been eclipsed by something far more primal—a desperate hope that he would survive.

Isabel’s POVI kneeled next to Emerson’s crumpled body. My hands trembled as they pressed against his bleeding wound. The blood was everywhere—dark, warm, and terrifyingly fast. A desperate panic rose in my throat as I looked around the dimly lit terrain. We were isolated, surrounded by danger. Silas Kane’s men could be lurking around every corner.Emerson’s breaths were shallow, his face pale. “Stay with me,” I whispered hoarsely. My mind raced. We were miles from help, but I couldn’t leave him here to die. He had saved me, shielded me with his own body. And yet, the lingering doubts whispered cruel truths. How could I care for someone who had caused me so much pain? But could I bear the thought of losing him?Emerson groaned softly, pulling me out of my spiral. I shook my head to focus. “On the other side of the silos,” he had said earlier. That’s where Michael would be waiting.I scanned my surroundings frantically and spotted an old sheet crumpled in a dusty corner. It wasn’t muc

This was how it all ended—alone, betrayed, and broken. But… the pain never came.Instead, there was silence, punctuated by the dull thud of something—or someone—hitting the ground. Slowly, I opened my eyes, heart racing.Lilith had fallen to her knees before me, her face frozen in shock. Her wide eyes seemed to reflect disbelief. Her body was trembling. The woman who had always seemed untouchable—impeccably perfect, cold and calculating, an unshakable force of destruction—was now crumpling before me. Lilith, the woman who had orchestrated so much pain, who had relentlessly sought to destroy my life, my family, my children, was dying. For a moment, it felt surreal. As though fate’s cruel wheel had finally shifted in my favor. The sight before me was almost jarring: her impeccably styled raven hair still clung to its carefully sculpted waves, he

Isabel’s POV“Don’t ‘Isa’ me,” I snapped, my voice raw with anger. My chest heaved as the adrenaline coursed through me, my head throbbing in rhythm with my heartbeat. “I know more than you think, Emerson! I know about your lies, your betrayal... all of it!”“Isa, you don’t understand—” Emerson’s voice was calm, too calm, like he was trying to soothe a wild animal.“No idea?” I cut him off, my voice rising. “You think I have no idea what’s been happening? You knew about Lilith. You knew what she did to my father, and you said nothing! You kept me in the dark while she wove her web of chaos around us!”He raised his hands, a desperate attempt to placate me. “It wasn’t like that. Please, Isa, keep your voice down—”“Why?!” I barked, stepping closer to him. “Afraid someone will find us? I don’t care anymore, Emerson! If I die right here, right now, at least I’ll be free from your endless games. You wanted this, didn’t you? The end of me, the demise of me—”My rant was cut short as a sea

But through the haze, one question refused to fade: Who had saved me?As the man carried me through the darkness, his firm grip steadied me despite his hurried pace. Then, a deafening gunshot rang out. The sound pierced the air like a whip. My entire body jolted in reflex. The man stumbled, nearly dropping me. His arm faltered, and I felt him tense under the weight of what might have been an injury."Are you hurt?" My voice was raw, panicked. "Put me down. I can walk! • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 282 - Deceived but not Defeated

Isabel’s POVI sat in the dark, my wrists bound to a cold metal chair. The air around me felt stale, suffocating, and heavy. My eyes were covered by a thick cloth that added to the sense of helplessness that wrapped around me like a vice. My throat was parched, my stomach hollow with hunger. But it was the complete isolation that gnawed at me the most. It was as if the world had forgotten I existed, as though I had vanished entirely. No medication, no comfort—just the slow, relentless drain of my strength.I could feel the seconds ticking away. My life was ebbing away with each passing minute. But more than that, I could feel the presence of my fear. It pressed against my chest, the weight of it unbearable. Was I going to die here? Was this it—an end so quiet that no one would ever know? The sound of a ringing phone broke through the stillness. "Emerson," the guards’ cold voice sliced through the darkness. "You know we have your precious Isabel. No tricks for our little meet-up ton

Isabel’s POV"Don't play tricks on me, Lilith," I spat, my voice hoarse but sharp, cutting through the tension in the air. My mind raced with confusion and disbelief, but my gut told me there was more to this than a simple threat. Something didn’t add up. I had always believed in Emerson’s promises. He had assured me time and time again that my father would be taken care of, that nothing would harm him. But now, here I was, trapped in a situation I couldn’t control. All I could feel was a gnawing sense of dread.Lilith’s smile widened, cruel and knowing. "You think I'm lying?" she said, her voice dripping with malice. Her presence was like a poison, seeping into every crack of my resolve. I hated it. Every word she spoke twisted like a blade in my chest. Then she did something that made my blood run cold. With a flick of her wrist, she took a small tablet out of her purse. She pressed a button, and a live video feed flickered to life on the screen. My heart skipped a beat. There,

His one good eye was gleaming with malice. The other was covered by a black eyepatch. His scarred face twisted into a cruel smile, revealing gold-plated teeth as he leaned closer.I didn’t want to, but the memories hit me like a freight train. The eyepatch was new, but I’d recognize that face anywhere—the auction boss.My stomach churned. No, not him. Not this nightmare again.“You,” I whispered, my voice trembling. My throat felt parched, the words barely audible.“Ah, so you do remember me,” he sneered, straightening to his full height. “You and that bastard Emerson. You cost me everything—my business, my empire, my eye!” He pointed at his eyepatch with a flourish. “Do you know what it’s like to lose everything? To live in the shadows like a rat because of you two?”The anger in his voice

Emerson’s POV"How the hell did this happen?!" My voice echoed through the cold, sterile halls of the hospital. "You assured me this hospital had the most high-end security in the country! Was that all a goddamn lie?!"I had never felt so panicked and furious as when I found Isabel’s room empty. How could someone have gotten to her, here, in this heavily guarded military hospital? The head of security flinched under my glare, stammering something about protocols and procedures. I barely heard him. My entire focus was on the CCTV footage playing out in front of me. Mateo, standing beside me in the small, dimly lit surveillance room, was furiously scanning the feed. His face was pale but focused."Stop. Zoom in here," Mateo ordered sharply, pointing at the screen. The grainy footage showed a nurse moving briskly down the corridor with a gurney. Something was off. Mateo muttered, “She’s not staff.”"What do you mean she’s not staff?" I barked. He leaned closer, squinting. “Look at the un
