Samantha's POV

"Twins?" My voice was barely above a whisper.

Alexis pulled out a folded ultrasound picture and waved it in front of me. "Yep. Two little future attorneys, just like their dad."

I couldn't move.

Couldn't breathe.

This whole time… I had been sacrificing everything, working multiple jobs, selling my blood, starving myself. all to get Tad through law school.

And the whole time, he had been cheating on me.

With Alexis.

My own cousin.

My fingers tightened around the little metal box I had been grasping—the box that held every last penny I had saved for our future.

The future that had never been.

Alexis's eyes flicked to my hand. Her face contorted in an evil grin.

"Oh, is this for Tad?" she sneered, ripping the container out of my hand.

I just had time to answer before she ripped it open and threw the money in my face.

The bills floated in the air, raining down on me like so much garbage.

"Here!" Alexis laughed. "Take your literal blood money and get lost, creep!"

Tad laughed, his head shaking. "Face it, Sam. No one wants to marry you. And no one ever will."

His words were a bullet shot straight through my chest.

No one wants to marry you.

No one ever will.

Tears blurred my vision as my knees gave out, my body crumpling to the cold tile floor.

Alexis let out a dramatic sigh. “God, you’re so pathetic.” She reached for a metal hospital tray and shoved it toward me, aiming to knock me over…..

But then….

A hand caught it.

A strong, veined hand stopped the tray mid-air, gripping it effortlessly before it could hit me.

And then came a voice.

Deep. Calm. Dangerous.

“I will marry her.”

Silence.

The entire room froze.

I slowly lifted my teary eyes….

And there he was.

The same man I met inside earlier.

He was still wearing his construction jacket, sleeves rolled up, revealing strong, muscular arms. same way he was looking like,  when I met him earlier

He looked menacing. Unpredictable. Strong.

And furious.

Alexis's jaw dropped. "Oh. My. God. Isn't this a match made in hell?" honey, look he sold his blood too. maybe you guys can spend your honeymoon letting them harvest your organs!

The man looked down and saw money all over the floor, where I was standing he said to Alexis and Tad, pick that up.

Alexis said, if this broke skank needs money so badly let me do her a favor. hmm. Alexis brought out the same money, hmm. she throws it on me, Keep the change, bitch. she said.

I bend down to pick it, the man holds my hand, don't pick it. he said.

A doctor came out, sir, are these people bothering you?

Before the doctor could finish, tad said, yes doctor, they're terrorizing my pregnant fiance, they don't stop. she'll have a miscarriage….. Before he could finish, Alexis made a sound, oh! holding her tommy.

The doctor looked at them and called security.

The moment the doctor called the security, Alexis started laughing and said to me, good luck making the end meeting now.

the two security grabbed their hands, what are you doing? Tad asks. what are you doing, Alexis said, I am a  patient!

the doctor said, not at this hospital  you're not.

I just grabbed the same liquid, why don't you take a shower,  for the road. I poured it on Alexis. she gasps, ah! it… that's a urine sample, let go of me.

Tad snorted, stepping forward. "Who the hell even are you?

the security men drag both Alexis and Tad away.

I rest on the wall, tears rolling down my eyes.

Oh my God, I'm so embarrassed. umm… thank you for helping me, umm…

he said.

it cal.

oh cal, cal. thank you cal.

they're the ones that should be embarrassed,  not you. he said.

I mean, you just watched my whole life fall apart. I even know what I'm gonna do now. my heart was in pain and Harvey. Tad has hurt me so badly, all my effort and love, he just threw them away like I was nothing more than a piece of trash.

The man moved closer to me, my name is Mr calladan. He held my hands and said, What if you get married to me? I promise you'll never have to sell another drop of blood again for the rest of your life.

I tried to swallow but couldn't quite manage. My mind reeled, attempting to process what'd happened. "Why are you helping me ?" I whispered, my voice shaking. "You don't even know me at all."

Cal's hand was stretched out toward me, his gaze locked with mine. "I know enough.

A small smile played on his lips as he pulled me up.

A Few Hours Later, Outside the Courthouse

I stood holding the marriage certificate in my hands, stunned. We had just been wedded.

Cal and I stepped outside, the cool afternoon breeze slapping my face. He was staying in step with me, his expression unreadable.

I giggled inane, scratching my hand through my hair. "So we're actually married now," I said, raising my eyes to him. "I'm sorry, but this is crazy. I don't even know you."

Cal looked at me, his mouth quirking into a slight smile. "Well, what is it you want to know?"

"I don't know… umm…"

I grappled for a question, my brain still spinning. "What's your favorite color?"

A smile crawled across his face. "Blue. Light blue, to be exact." His eyes flashed to mine. "Like yours."

I gasped, my fingers tightening around the paper in my hand.

He was quicker than I was. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and hit a few keys. He handed it to me.

"Here," he said. "Put in your number. Text me your banking details. I owe you a wedding gift."

I stared. "A wedding gift?"

I hesitated, but I picked up the phone. Just as I was about to dial my number, my own phone rang.

The name displayed on the screen gave me chills.

Shirley.

My stepmother.

Before I could hang it up, Cal pulled the phone from my grasp and answered it, putting it on loudspeaker.

As soon as the line connected, Shirley's voice erupted from the speaker.

"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!"
