“We need to leave Ambarjon as soon as possible.” Elara was licking her fingers after eating a cupcake when she heard Thalia.

“But we are supposed to leave after one month.” Thalia had gotten the job in Kanderton. She not only accepted the offer but also asked Elara to join her.

Elara could not stay here any longer as they needed to hide the pregnancy from Aiden Lockwood. She had already started applying for different jobs online in Kanderton.

“I know. But now we need to move within two days.”

Elara sat up straight in the bed, “Why so sudden? You look worried. Is everything alright, Thalia?”

“Today I saw Vicky in the hospital. That day she had a miscarriage and now she was at Dr. Natasha’s clinic for her treatment.”

“Oh? So, what does it have to do with me? Though I am sorry for her baby.”

“Silly! Dr. Natasha was your gynecologist too. Today Vicky was alone. But soon Aiden would be visiting Dr. Natasha along with her. What if Natasha tells him about your babies?”

Elara's heart raced in her chest. Thalia was right. They could not risk it.

“When should we leave?” she had determination on her face.

“Tomorrow night! I will come up with any excuse at the hospital. Keep your stuff minimal. We will leave the country. I have already asked Mr. Patrick to book our flights.”

“I am so lucky to have you as my friend!” Elara smiled.

“And I will be the best aunt for my babies,” she patted Elara’s belly, “Buckle up, kids. Let’s give your father a run!”

***

“Mr. Lockwood!” Dr. Natasha stood up from her seat, “How are you?”

Aiden took a seat after the handshake. Vicky sat beside him.

“I am good. It is her second visit,” Aiden pointed towards Vicky, “I just wanted to make sure she gets the best treatment. She might be needing psychological help too. We just lost a baby.” he said matter of factly.

“We?” Natasha raised a brow, “I mean are you, her husband?”

“Yes!” Vicky spoke.

“No,” Aiden was quick to shake his head making Vicky tongue-tied in shock.

“Oh. That was what I thought. I mean how come a man be married to two ladies? Ha-ha.” The poor doctor didn’t know anything about Aiden’s divorce.

Aiden stayed quiet.

Vicky didn’t like it. She was Aiden’s first love, and she was expecting Aiden to tell the doctor that she was his soon-to-be wife. His fiancée.

This evening she would ask Aiden to buy her an expensive engagement ring. Maybe the one she saw in a fashion magazine. She needed his support. This time she couldn’t let him go out of her clutches.

“I … I need to go out for some fresh air.” She was expecting Aiden to follow her but had to face disappointment.

“So, Mr. Aiden Lockwood,” Dr. Natasha got serious, “You need to ask your wife to take it all very seriously. She is again missing her appointments. Her case is precious, and she needs to visit me on time. Or has she changed her doctor?”

She asked him, leaning back in her seat. Aiden was looking for words. How to tell her that …

“Mr. Lockwood. I understand you must be scared. However, with punctual visits and correct medication, twin pregnancies have a very high rate of survival. You don’t need to worry about …”

“Excuse me?” several lines appeared on Aiden’s forehead, “What did you say? Twin pregnancies? Whose pregnancy are you talking about?”

“Umm. Mrs. Elara Lockwood. I mean I do have her record here,” She clicked on her monitor and turned the screen to him, “Here. Elara Lockwood. We witnessed two sacs, and she needs extra care…”

Aiden felt as if someone had taken away breath out of his chest.

Elara was pregnant? With twins?

“Mr. Lockwood! Mr. Lock…”

Aiden couldn’t hear any further. He rose to his feet and quickly left the room, leaving a shocked doctor behind.

He quickly took out his phone, “I asked you to keep an eye on her. Is she still staying with Thalia?” he asked his man icily.

“I am coming to that apartment.” He was trying for some self-control.

“Sir. She was here till last night. But now their door is locked, and they are not here.”

“What do you mean they are not here? They might be out for some errand or job or … Just find them!”

“Sir. I was about to call you. They usually go for short morning walks. But they didn’t come out this morning. When I knocked on the door, nobody answered me. There is a gardener whose name is Patrick. He said they left last night quite discreetly. Nobody knows where they went.”

Aiden felt his heart sinking. There was this unexpected emptiness. Where have you gone, cupcake?

“Aiden!” he tilted his head when he saw Vicky walking towards him, “I have just decided. I need an engagement ring. So instead of dropping me home please buy me a beautiful diamond ring.”

“Go with the driver and buy whatever you want!” he said in a cold voice, “just stop disturbing me, Vicky. Ok?”

Vicky’s lips trembled. Why was he acting like this? She hoped he hadn’t discovered the truth.

“Elara please stop crying,” Ever since Thalia returned from her job, Elara had been crying nonstop. “Thalia. I always thought that one day when he’ll be back in my life, I’ll show him what a strong woman I have become. I don’t need him in my life anymore. I wanted to get admission to this college because I wanted to secure an executive job. But I have been denied admission. I couldn’t clear the test.” Elara said between hiccups. “Elara. My beautiful friend! Listen. Do you want to show him what you are? Then go for something where you can put your heart and soul. Maybe executive jobs are not for you.” Elara wiped her face and looked at Thalia, “I know nothing except baking. I enjoy nothing except baking. I am a useless woman. Even Aiden never liked a wife who was always busy baking.” “Silly. Forget about Aiden. It's not about him. It’s about YOU, Elara. You love baking? Then start baking!” Thalia shook her a little. “What?” “Yes.” Thalia nodded her head in excitement, “Start bakin

“What do you mean by that, Thalia” Elara had shock on her face, “presentation in front of their administration staff?”Elara had never heard of it. Thalia just informed her that she will be called for a presentation about her baked goods. You just have to tell them how you make your stuff. Ask about their preferences. Try to offer them a variety if by any chance any of their guests is allergic to something.”Elara felt her feet getting cold. A presentation in front of a bunch of people. “Yes?” Elara gave a questioning look to the fine-looking man who was there standing in the bakery amidst all the customers. “Are you Elara Smith?” the man asked her with a pleasant smile. His smile deepened when she nodded, “I am George Kernel, Ms. Smith. Nice meeting you.” He extended his hand for a handshake. Thalia who was standing beside Elara was looking at the man from head to toe, “Nice!” she whispered close to Elara’s ear, but Elara ignored her and gave an enthusiastic smile to George while shaking his hand. “Hello, Mr. Kernel. I am sorry, I wasn’t expecting this visit,” she looked down when George didn’t show any intention to leave her hand. “I am here to ask you about your presentation idea.” If Elara found it odd, she didn’t show him. “Please come inside, Mr. Kernel.” She gestured for him to follow her and tried to free her hand from his grip. However, he didn’t seem to take the hint and started heading towards the door with her hand still in his grip. Elara tried to t

There was a lot of hustle and bustle at ‘Lemons and Tarts’ bakers. Elara and her workers were busy completing daily orders. Then today there was an extraordinary rush of customers. Barbara was helping fill up the baking trays with the batter that would be placed in the ovens the next morning so that they could present it fresh.“Hey, Elara.” Morgana peeped inside with a startled expression on her face, “Octopus is here, and she wants to talk to you.” Elara straightened her hurting back. Right now, she did not want to deal with any drama. Yesterday, at E and L Corporations, Octavia was also there with her product list. However, she could not bully Elara. Maybe due to the presence of other executive officials. When Elara saw her, she could feel this appointment in her heart.“Oh, God! Out of so many bakers in Kanderton why Octavia had to be here?”“Send her in,” Elara tossed her rubber gloves and apron aside, “refrigerate these trays in the large fridge, Barbara,” She instructed the

Elara didn’t know what to do. She was frozen. Her mind had stopped working. Thalia's condition was no different. “Is there any problem?” They both parted when they heard Mimi's voice, “What you two are doing at this ungodly hour? By any chance did you two discover that you both are in love?” Mimi's unexpected queries were giving them a headache. Elara stifled the unexpected laughter. Even in such a tense situation, Mimi’s doubts were hilarious. “Oh, come on, Mimi. No one is IN LOVE,” Thalia leaned back against the counter, “someone poured crude oil on our order. Now we are in a mess. We can’t even use the same trays.” Elara then made Mimi sit and explained to her about her biggest chance at E and L. “Maybe call George?” Mimi gave them the idea but twisted her lips when she saw Elara and Thalia shaking their heads. “Why not?” “Right now, he must be sleeping … and what will I tell him, Mimi?” Elara dropped herself down on the kitchen floor as if she was too tired to even move.

He turned to Aiden who instead of eating the tart, seemed to worship it.He was observing it, twirling it between his index finger and thumb.“Eat it, silly.
