“You look amazing, Liv! Just go! You can do it!” Paige encouraged me as we stood in a corner.
The whole house was packed with people everywhere. Even in the pool at the back of the house.
To be perfectly honest, this was more of a nightmare-ish hell for a claustrophobic person than a party…
If I knew that high school parties were basically just loud music with drunk teens everywhere, I would have stayed at home with a big bowl of popcorn while watching some random movie.
I could’ve drooled over guys who would never know that I exist!
Wait… That’s kinda sad…
But those guys are also too old for a high schooler like me…
That’s not sad… Or is it?
It is, you dumbo!
Why don’t we all have that one person in the world made for us in a way that he or she can never be with anyone other than us?
Like mates in all those werewolf stories?
Life would be so much better if those stories were true…
Wait… What if they are true and I just don’t know it?!
What if the werewolves are just not telling us mere mortals about their existence?!
What if I have a super hot werewolf guy waiting to find me?!
Ha! As if…
I’m not that lucky…
Now that is super sad…
Liv! Focus!
I’m not here to think about my werewolf mate! I’m here to get Ryan!
But what if Ryan’s my werewolf mate?
You’ve grown up with that guy, Liv! If he was a werewolf, you would’ve known about that!
Now, focus!
“I can do this.” I said to myself when I saw Ryan standing a few feet away from me with one of his friends, laughing at something.
“Yes, you can do it!” Paige smiled encouragingly.
“I can totally do this!” I said, nodding my head.
“He’s right there. You just have to go to him and tell him everything.” Paige told me.
“He’s right there. I just have to go to him and tell him everything.” I stated.
“You should go now.” Paige nudged me.
“I should go now.” I nodded my head in agreement.
“Olivia, seriously, go!” Paige sighed.
“Olivia, seriously go!” I said to myself.
“Paper planes fly but Olivia doesn’t.” Paige said.
“Paper planes fly but-” I was speaking but Paige cut me off.
“Liv! Snap out of it!” She shook me by my shoulders, bringing me to the present. “Stop parroting my words and go get your man!” She instructed.
I nodded as I started walking to Ryan.
But before I could reach him, someone walked past me, almost knocking me over as their shoulder hit mine.
“Ouch!” I exclaimed, gripping my shoulder. “Watch where you’re going!” I called after the guy who just continued to walk away after hitting me.
He turned around at my words and stared at me from head to toe with a creepy smile on his face.
“Look who has a back-bone.” I chuckled as he walked back to me.
“Uh… Technically all humans have a back-bone.” I stated. “I don’t think you ever attended your biology class, did you?” I sassed.
I mean, the guy was tall and he could easily overpower little ol’ me but I had my sass so I couldn’t just let it pass.
Oooooo! It rhymes!
“Colour me impressed, baby.” He said as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
“And colour me creeped out by you.” I told him as I tried to push him away but he just smirked down at me.
“Aww! Baby girl has a tongue on her.” He chuckled, holding me in his arms, close to his muscular body.
“All humans have tongues! Please, go study human anatomy, man!” I sighed exasperatedly.
Where the heck is Paige?
Even Danny-boy would do! But where the heck were they?!
“I’m gonna show you my anatomy…” The guy said creepily as he started to drag me somewhere while I struggled against his hold.
Seriously, is everyone here blind?! Can’t they see this creepy idiot practically kidnapping me?!
“Leave her!” I heard a hard, angry voice saying behind me which made the guy stop.
Wait… I know that voice…
Oh… My… Goodness!
“Hey! Man! What’s up?” The creepy guy, who was still holding me, replied.
“Let her go.” The hard voice said. “I won’t repeat myself.” He added.
Holly mac n cheese!
“I-I’ll let her g-go.” The creepy guy stuttered as he released his grip on me. The fear in his eyes as he practically ran away told me that I would have nightmares for years if turned around now.
Oopsie Daisy…
“You okay?” The same deep voice asked, sounding much closer to me than before.
I think he calmed down…
“I’m perfect!” I replied loudly over the music, not bothering to face him.
“Olivia, look at me!” The voice commanded.
I clenched my jaw as I turned around to face him.
“Oh! So you do know who I am?” I asked him, looking up into his green eyes.
If I wasn’t super angry at the moment, I would have taken my time to appreciate the deep green eyes and the almost black hair of the guy standing in front of me.
Wait… What the hell am I even thinking?!
“Olivia, I just-” He started speaking but he cut me off.
“Don’t call me that you… You monster!” I fumbled over my words as I tried to contain my anger. “You lost the right to call me that a few years ago when you started acting like you don’t even know me!” I told him.
If I wasn’t so angry, I would have actually swooned over how my name rolled off of his tongue.
Gross! Where did that thought even come from?!
Eww!
“That’s your name, Olivia. What else would I call you?” He pointed out.
Well, when he puts it that way…
“You do have a point. I don’t know what I was thinking… Well, to be fair, I hardly ever know what I think about…” I thought out loud. “But you still didn’t have to come and save me like some kind of knight-in-shining-armour!” I snapped at him.
“Yeah, you had everything under control.” He rolled his eyes.
“I did have it all under control.” I lied.
“You were just about to knock his teeth out, weren’t you?” He smirked at me.
“I don’t know about that but I would knock your teeth out if you don’t scram!” I warned him as I took a threatening step towards the giant boy who once was one of my best friends.
Yes, one more!
We were a close-knit group of four. The idiot standing in front of me, Ryan, Kaylee and I.
You can celebrate now that you know all the three people who left me right as I stepped into high school!
“As if you can hurt me, kitten.” He smirked down at me due to our obvious height difference.
“You know, kittens have claws and they scratch pretty bad.” I told him. “Wouldn’t want the bad boy to have claw marks on his face now, would we?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
“I had almost forgotten that you were sassy since birth.” He smiled at me as he stepped closer to me.
“Don’t act like you know me, Hunter.” I told him as I felt a sudden surge of emotions making it hard for me to breathe properly.
“Oh, I know you, Olivia. I know you better than you know yourself.” He told me seriously as he stepped even closer to me.
“You haven’t been around for three years, Hunter. People can change in seconds. I mean, you all did. So what makes you think that I haven’t?” I glared at him.
This was the first time I was throwing accusations at someone for abandoning me. And as much as I felt like a weight was being lifted off of my shoulders as I looked at the guilt on his face, I also felt awful.
Hunter Kingston was my best friend three years ago. Just like Kaylee and Ryan. And now, he acted like I didn’t exist.
Honestly, what he did was the most hurtful.
Ryan still smiled at me. Even if he didn’t ever talk to me. He still showed recognition. So did Kaylee, in her own diva way. She might have turned into a bully but she still showed recognition.
Hunter acted like he didn’t know about my existence…
And unlike the hot boys from the popular TV shows or movies, him not knowing me was painful beyond belief.
Hunter was the same boy who couldn’t ever see me cry. He was the same boy who would start a fight with my brother, who was much older than all of us, if he even threw his usual brotherly insults at me.
The guy in front of me didn’t do that…
The guy in front of me in his signature black leather jacket and black T-shirt with black jeans and black sneakers was the school’s ‘bad boy’.
The guy in front of me was the one who just hung out with his other friends who dressed like him in all black while barely attending any classes and still somehow managing to pass all of them.
Now that’s something I would like to learn…
I mean, screw maths and science and all those boring subjects! These people hardly ever come to school and still manage to pass all their classes! Now that’s what real talent is!
But they don’t get straight A's like you, Olivia…
Good point, brain!
I know, I’m awesome!
You are… Till you're getting straight A’s. One B and I’ll take it all back!
That’s not the point here, you dumbo!
Yes… I need to focus on the green-eyed Greek god first…
What the heck are you even thinking about, Liv! That’s Hunter! Not some guy you can just drool over!
He’s bad!
He’s super bad!
“Olivia-” He started to say something but I stepped back, shaking my head.
“Why are you even talking to me?” I questioned.
“Olivi-” He started but I cut him off.
“You know what? I am not here for you. I’m on a mission and that is to find someone who actually knows me and talk to him.” I said more to myself than to him.
I didn’t even dare to look at him as I started walking past him.
“You might not be here for me but I’ll always be there for you.” I heard him say as I walked past him to go find Ryan.
I need to forget about Hunter and focus on Ryan…
This is it, Liv!This is do or die!You have to confess now!You can do it, girl!Come on!“Ryan?” I tapped his shoulder to get his attention. He turned around and smiled when he saw me. His smile made me blush as I fidgeted with my hands.“Umm… I-I wanted t-to tell y-you s-something…” I mentally slapped myself to Jupiter for stuttering like a fool in front of him.Words, Liv! Speak words! And don’t you dare stutter aga
Okay this was more awkward than the time I went to my aunt’s wedding and ended up falling down with the chocolate fountain falling on top of me. I ruined a very expensive dress that day… But the worst thing was that chocolate was wasted… Poor chocolate! I cried for hours because so much chocolate was wasted… But this was more awkward as I sat next to Dan with Paige on the other side, giving me angry looks. I’m pretty sure that she would have thrown an axe at my head by now if the teacher wasn’t currently going on with the day’s lesson. And well, if she had an axe on her… After the whole fiasco at the party, I had run for the hills, pulling Dan with me so that he didn’t get the chance to tell people that I was lying… I managed to explain everything to Dan during the ride home and he promised to keep his mouth shut. But he did ask me to explain everything to Paige and to clear the mess up as soon as I could. He was afraid of Ryan kicking him out of the team somehow bu
How would you feel if you learned that your neighbour, the cute guy you had a crush on, knew all your secrets? Including the fact that you had a crush on him? And the fact that you lied to him and told him that you were dating your friend? And then that friend turned out to be a traitor too? And the guy you liked, who knew that you liked him, was dating the girl who bullied you for three years and was also a friend who left without any explanation! It was a mess but I had one word to describe it perfectly. Awkward. But I had the perfect cure for that.
“Liv!” I heard someone calling out as I skipped on my way to class. I turned around to find Dan rushing to me.Yes, I was skipping in the crowded hallway… Turns out, when you’re acting like yourself, being different from the rest, people just give way to your craziness. You just have to ignore the stares… Besides, I was in a really good mood because of that delicious burger I ate last night… And the ice cream after that… Food is life!“Danny!” I exclaimed. “Thanks for forgiving me!” He dryly said. Oh! He saw what I wrote over the loud art we did on his car!“You’re welcome!” I beamed up at him. “Are we cool now? For real?” Dan asked me. “Oh, we’re cooler than that ice-cream in Paige’s refrigerator!” I grinned. “Actually, that ice-cream melted because the refrigerator stopped working.” Paige interrupted as she emerged from the crowd. How did she know when to appear? She’s a magician!Or I’m friends with a real wizard… The second one makes more sense… “Now we have to get new
“Did you know that cotton candy is actually just sugar?” I asked Dan with tears in my eyes. “Umm… Yeah?” Dan replied nervously as he looked at me in confusion. He knew?! “Why didn’t you tell me?!” I cried out. Dan looked around at all those who were now staring at us with an apologetic smile. The only person he should be apologising to is me! He kept such a big secret from me! “Because I thought you already knew… Everybody knows…” Dan shrugged. “I didn’t know!” I wailed, making people shoot glares at me. People these da
“Liv, I’m so-” The poor guy couldn’t even complete the apology before he had a red handprint on his cheek. That’s gonna hurt…“How dare you come here to talk to her after what you did?” Paige roared.Everyone was staring but no one even dared to whisper… Or to take out their phones to record the whole mess…That’s how scary she was…“Paige, I-” Another incomplete sentence uttered by the boy who got slapped again. At least now both his cheeks looked identically red… That makes it a bit better, right?
Did you know… The first person convicted of speeding was going eight mph!I mean, how unfair is that! And… The heads on Easter Island have bodies! How cool! And did you know that rabbits can’t puke!Well… Okay, moving on…Cotton-candy was actually invented by a dentist!Like, was he just trying to spoil our teeth so we have to go to him more often? And did you know that chewing gum boosts concentration?! And that showers really do spark creativity?
I saw a movement in the hall outside my room and sighed loudly. My actions had the desirable effect as my dad came back to stand at the doorway with a frown. Thank goodness it’s not mom! “What are you thinking about, chipmunk?” He asked as he leaned against the doorframe. I sighed dramatically again as I pouted and looked down at my criss-cross, pyjama clad legs. My sigh again had the desirable effect as he walked inside the room and took a seat on the bed near me with a concerned look. Never underestimate the telepathic power of a heavy sigh! “Talk to me, jelly bean.” He spoke in a soft voice. Damn! He knows that I ate all the jelly beans… “Daddy, what can someone do to become more likeable?” I asked him, not looking up at him. You see, if I look up, he will know exactly what I am talking about. My dad had that super power which made him a mind reader. But it only works with me, my brother and my mom… Weird, right? “Why do you ask? Did something happen at school?
“Have fun, kiddos!” I grinned like an idiot as I waved wildly at them. “I’m still older than you, baby sis!” Austin called out, pretending to be annoyed but the small smile on his face gave him away. Kaylee just couldn’t stop smiling as she waved back at me before she and Tin-Tin got in the car and drove off. They were on their way to their date after so much argument. Kaylee didn’t feel like she deserved it after how she’s treated me in the past few years and Austin wanted to be a good brother after so long and not go out with my bully. Ha! But me being me, I convinced them that they did deserve this.
“Umm… I think I’m ready to talk now.” Kaylee spoke up in a whisper. Why?! This girl really couldn’t have had worse timing! “You should rehearse what you wanna say in your mind first.” I suggested, not even looking at her. “That’s what I’ve been doing till now. I think I’m ready now.” Kaylee replied. Why?! This is a nightmare! “Why don’t you go over it again?” I asked, still not turning to look at her. Just a few more minutes! “I want to talk to you before your br
“So, do you wanna do something?” I asked Hunter as we walked to his car. It was the end of the school day but we still didn’t have any plans for the rest of the day. “I don’t know. Austin was asking me to play some video games with him though.” Hunter shrugged. Gasp! How dare they plan to do something that doesn’t involve me?! I stopped walking, pulling my hand away from Hunter’s as I glared at him. I knew that I was acting like a child but what can anyone do when their stupid brother was trying to steal their boyfriend?! “You’re my boyfriend, Hun. Not Austin’s.” I told him with an angry pout on my fac
“You two have been coming here a lot lately.” Papa Joe commented when he spotted Hunter and I entering the diner. “You’re both friends again?” He smiled. I shook my head as I clung to Hunter’s arm while he was tightly holding my hand. Hunter looked at me with a smile, waiting for me to answer the question. He knows me too well… Well, that and I’ve been eating his ear off on the way here about how excited I am to tell Papa Joe about how Hunter and I are dating now. This is so exciting! Eeeep! “He’s my date tonight, Papa Joe!” I chimed happily, standing on my tiptoes to kiss Hunter’s
“I’m gonna go and get ready now.” I sighed as I got up from the couch. I stretched a little, feeling a bit tired. Me and Austin had been sitting in the same position for hours now. We watched three amazing alien movies one after the other! Now that was awesome! “Where are you going?” My brother frowned. “I have a date with Hunter tonight.” I informed him with a huge smile on my face. The thought of the upcoming date made all the tiredness leave my mind. What the hell is happening to me?! It was like the thought of going out with Hunter
“I missed this.” I sighed as I snuggled next to Hunter. He kissed the top of my head. He’s super comfy! This reminds me why I started calling him ‘Captain Comfy’ when I was seven. Cuddling with him made me feel safe and warm. How did I stay away from this for so long?! “Me too.” I could practically hear the smile in his voice as he rubbed my arm. After the whole scene at school, I thanked Maya and Shawn for standing up for me. They stood up for me in a way no one ever did. They are the kind of people everyone should want to be friends with… Maya just hugged me as I tried to stop my tears
“Kaylee?” I spoke softly as I tapped on her shoulder. She turned around to face me with an annoyed expression on her face. “What the hell do you want?” She asked me in an irritated tone. I wanna ride on a unicorn… But life’s not about what you want. It’s about what the universe thinks would be funny… Stupid universe! “I have something to tell you.” I told her. I glanced at her friends who were looking at me. “If you have a minute, can we talk? Privately?” I asked. I’m being super kind and considerate here! Don’t blow it off!
“Whatcha doin’ now?” I asked Hunter, trying to hide my huge grin as he shut the door of his locker. “Dropping you home.” He told me as he turned around to look at me. He’s not planning to hang out with me? I bet it’s all Austin’s doing! He must have told Hunter to play some stupid video games with him! That stupid brocooli lover! Note: Kaylee is the broccoli. But Hunter will hang out with me! “That’s boring.” I rolled my eyes. “Anyways, can we go to Papa Joe’s tonight for our date?” I asked him, almost jumping in excitement. Thi
“That was really awesome what you did yesterday, girl!” Maya cheered. “Thanks!” I grinned at Maya. I’ve got a fan! Be realistic, Liv! The only fan you have is the one attached to the ceiling of your bedroom! That fan is amazing though… And it also knows all my secrets… Sheesh! Distract yourself, Liv! Distract yourself before you start overthinking this! “I have to say, I am impressed by you, kiddo.” Shawn nodded at me. Kiddo?! I’m just a year younger, people!&
