"Why?" I couldn't help but blurt out on instinct, his sudden dismissal of me hurting me more than I cared to admit. He had never been cold to me save for the one time in front of Alpha Adrian and that too had been an act. So this, him suddenly being so cold and rude stung like no other. I knew for a fact that he didn't like sharing things about himself. And I'd always tried not to push him for answers. Besides, he'd been answering me just fine up until a few minutes ago. I figured since he'd willingly divulged his past to me, we were somehow closer to each other now. That I had the right to ask questions and that he would answer me. Apparently, I'd been wrong. "Because I want you to. Because I'm not a saint like you," he said to me, his voice sharp. Not a saint like me? What was he going on about? "I'm not some saint, Evan. I'm just me. Melody," I told him, my words slow, careful. "That's just what the problem is, isn't it?" He replied, his tone sardonic. Turning around sharply
I pushed the door to Miss Lillian's room open once she had called for me to come in. "Miss Lillian, I have someone I want you to meet," I told her, gesturing to Alpha Evan who had entered the room behind me. Miss Lillian looked surprised that I'd brought him along but she quickly got over as she stood up from her bed and approached us. "And who might this be?" Miss Lillian asked, her tone light and teasing. "This is Alpha Evan and Alpha Evan, this is my nanny, Miss Lillian," I said, quickly introducing the two of them. Miss Lillian smiled, holding her hand out for a shake. Much to both our surprises, Alpha Evan took her hand in his before bringing it to his lips, placing a soft kiss on the back of it. For pretty much the first time in my life, I watched as Miss Lillian blushed a deep pink, her pale cheeks filling with colour. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Lillian," Alpha Evan said with a radiant smile, letting her hand go and looking like he meant every word. Miss Lillian's
"Have you seen Raymond?" I asked Jen, one of the kinder slaves who often helped me. "He might be somewhere in the kitchen. That's where I last saw him," she told me on her way to the Ball room, an assortment of beautifully selected flowers in her hand, blue and white, which was the theme for the night. "Thank you," I shouted at her over my shoulder as I ran towards the kitchen, looking for Raymond. After visiting Miss Lillian, I realised I didn't have much time to say my goodbyes to Raymond and I had to do it tonight itself for I didn't know how or when I'd be leaving tomorrow. I had just opened the door to the kitchen when someone coming from the inside slammed right into me. Strong arms held me, keeping me from falling as I lost my balance. "I'm so sorry, I was in a hurry," I heard a man's voice say and it took me only a moment to realise that it was Raymond. "Raymond!" I exclaimed once I'd righted myself and pulled away from his hold. "Mel! Thank Goddess you're here, I was a
"What happened? Are you okay?" I asked as soon as Alpha Evan shut the door to his room behind us."Fine," he said gruffly, his back to me as he pulled at his tie, loosening it. My frown only deepened as I walked towards him. I knew he was troubled and it was troubling me as well. He had treated me so nicely so far and I didn't like seeing him like this at all. Slowly, I approached him from behind, reaching up and placing a tentative hand on his shoulder. "Evan?" I called out, my voice soft as I urged him to turn around. I felt his shoulders slump a little under my touch as he let out a sigh. Ever so slowly, he turned around, looking straight into my eyes, his expression unreadable. "What happened out there?" I repeated, my voice still soft as I coaxed him to answer. He stared straight into my eyes, seemingly conflicted as he looked down at me. Instead of answering me, he lifted a hand, rubbing the back of it against my cheek. I felt the sparks I usually did at his touch, leaning
The Imperial Ball was finally over and the guests had been leaving since morning. All the servants had been tasked with either cleaning up the guest rooms- changing the bedsheets, cleaning the bathrooms and such, or helping the guests load their luggages into their cars. I had been tasked with cleaning the bathrooms. Yeah, it's as fun as it sounds, which is not at all. I had been at it for at least four hours when I realised it was finally time for lunch. With an excited grin, I made my way towards the kitchen, ready to take food to Alpha Evan's room. I was hoping that he would finally tell me what the plan of action was, let me in how he was going to take me with him. I mean, it was me he was taking with him, so I obviously had to be let in on the plan for it to work successfully, right? And if he was going to do it today like he had told me he would, then now was as good a time as any to tell me everything. "What are you doing here?" Michel asked as soon as I entered the kitchen
I watched silently, tears streaming down my face as the small room I had called home burnt to ashes right in front of me. But it wasn't the site of the burning room which was making me cry, no. It was the sight of Miss Lillian and Raymond crying like anything right in front of it that was making my heart feel like it was being ripped out of my chest slowly and painfully. They thought that I had died. They couldn't see me because of a magical spell Alpha Evan had put on me but I could see and hear everything just fine. It was late at night when I finally made it to my room, exhausted to the bone after the day's work when I noticed Alpha Evan sitting on my bed as if he owned the place. For a moment, I'd thought that my tired mind was playing tricks on me. Because he had already left, hadn't he? How could he be there? But even after I blinked several times and rubbed at my eyes to clear them, he was still there, looking amused as ever as he stared at me. "What the hell?" I'd finally
"Pick whatever you want to," Alpha Evan told me, paying no heed to all the people in the shop who kept staring at us as if we were some sort of a celebrity couple. It was later that evening and Alpha Evan had taken me to a mall of sorts. There were shops of all kinds ranging from clothing stores, shoe stores to places you could pick groceries, toys and even jewelry from all on the two floors I could see. I nodded at him, feeling extremely self conscious as people around us stopped and stared. It was almost as if a pariah had come in, some sort of exotic creature they had never laid their eyes on and were seeing in the flesh for the first time even though it was only their Alpha who had come in. Alpha Evan walked behind me as I made my way towards the racks where sweatpants and sweatshirts were hung. The people in the aisle disappeared as soon as they saw him. Utterly confused as to why everyone was acting like that, I turned to him, my brows furrowed. "Why is everyone looking at y
The next morning when I woke up, bright sunlight was streaming in through the cracks in the floor to ceiling windows while the sunroof on the ceiling was closed. Alpha Evan was missing from the room as well. I briefly wondered what time it was as I got up and made my way to the bathroom to freshen up. Once I was done, I made my way downstairs, looking for Alpha Evan. I found him sitting on the kitchen island, looking freshly showered, dressed casually in an off white v-neck and dark wash jeans and reading some important looking papers. I briefly wondered how someone could make something so casual look so utterly sexy. Before I could dwell on it much, though, he spoke up, "So sleeping beauty is finally up.""Sleeping beauty, huh? Whatever happened to kitten?" I asked, strolling closer to him. "My kitten was taking way too long of a nap so she's been promoted to sleeping beauty now," he muttered dryly, still not taking his eyes off of whatever it was that he was reading."What time
