A Breeder

Chapter 1

VISENNA POV

It all begins with the breeder's arrival. I had thought I found solid ground, a love so passionate but I never knew he had it in my to dispose me soon.

We were the envy of other packs and I still had hope that it was momentarily and he would return to me.

I am visenna caspian, the Luna of the fauna pack, i rose to power after my psrents died leaving the pack in my care.

My father was the Pack's Alpha and they believed that I could handle the affairs of the pack until I decided on what to do with it.

Cahir Ravish was the Alpha of Riverdale Pack. He was my childhood lover and my fated mate. We were betrothed and we got married after I became the Luna of my Pack. It's been three years now.

After our marriage, I shuffled responsibilities as the Luna of my pack and as Cahir's Luna. It was a bit hectic but Cahir had been supportive.

We loved each other so much but something was lacking in our marriage. I couldn't conceive.

We had tried different means but we couldn't achieve conception.

As an heir and the Luna of an Alpha, I knew the importance of raising an heir. My inability to raise one made me afraid and it saddened my heart.

I had everything I wanted. A good life, a pack to call my own and a childhood friend and mate who cherished me.

Despite Cahir's position as the Alpha of his pack, we shared uninterrupted romance and our life was perfect except for my inability to raise an heir.

Cahir seemed to be less concerned about it and I had nothing to worry about.

Merging my pack with Cahir's was better than merging up with Evander, an outsider. Not even that sly and shady Alpha Evander.

To be sincere, I despise that man alpha, it's as though we had a beef in the past. I could vividly recall when he had come to propose a merge and was flirting with me in the presence of my mate.

Winning the elders of the Fauna pack over wasn't an easy task.

In their opinion, they preferred that I merge with an outsider rather than my mate. They raised a few reasons why such an alliance wasn't healthy but I remained rigid and they gave in.

In a few weeks, the elders of both packs met and the merging was done. I didn't consider many things and left it all in Cahir's care.

Merging the packs turned out to be a great idea. I could focus and concentrate on a single path without divided attention.

******

Cahir had been quiet but cosy all day and I wondered what was happening. Yes, we were lovebirds but I found the increased skinship somewhat disturbing.

I grinned from ear to ear, knowing what he wanted. Tonight was going to be hot. I couldn't help but blush.

"Let's have some air in the garden," Cahir said, running his fingers through his hair.

"The garden?" He wasn't a flower freak, I was the one who always talked him into a visit.

My eyes burrowed into a frown and I took a good look at him. He looked grunted and agitated like he was troubled about something.

"Sure! You know I like the garden!" I said cheerfully.

My heart skipped a beat as the guards shut the door behind us.

I didn't know what was to come but I felt I settled. ignoring the feeling of dread in my heart, I surged through the lawns as usual.

"Wow! It's all blooming," I marvelled at the myriads of colours revealed before me while Cahir smiled faintly with his arms sagging by his side.

I scooped up some petals and rained them on him. He smiled wider but said nothing. I turned back to get petals, but I felt his cold palms on my elbows and I stopped.

"What… is wrong?" I finally asked.

"Nothing, it's nothing." His voice trembled slightly and he sounded weak. He nudged my shoulders feebly until I was facing him.

"Visenna I have something to say." he looked into my eyes and quickly looked away.

"Let it out, sweetheart," I said nonchalantly but my heart thumping fast. With the dread in his eyes, what was coming would be dreadful.

"Viz," he called nervously and I looked into his troubled eyes.

"The court made a decision for us... They want me to take a breeder…"

It felt like my heart stopped and my legs wobbled.

"Viz!" He held out his arms and held me in place.

"A… A breeder?!" I asked like I hadn't processed the information.

He pursed his lips and said nothing, looking here and there.

"No, no, no… what did you tell them? I am sure you refuted the idea." Nervous laughter escaped my lips and I looked at him earnestly

"It was a concluded matter and I… we don't have a say in it," he rumbled.

"Wait, do you mean that such a decision was made without my consent?" I asked, moving away from him.

"I couldn't change their mind… and it's nothing…"

"It's nothing?"

"Yes. She is just a breeder. All I need to do…

"Stop!" I yelled, turning white. I took crazy steps and walked away from him, feeling my eyes burn with tears.

"Viz," he cooed and caught up with me.

"I promise you, Viz, she will be nothing but our breeder. She will only give us an heir… Since we can't seem to make one, the sages offered that idea."

"You are right. They can only offer an idea, they can't tell us what to do… you must have acceded to it because it was okay with you! You didn't even consult me Cahir…"

"I am sorry Cahir… I felt compelled… it seemed to be a good idea since she would just be a breeder. I won't have to take another mate or start messing around because we can't make an heir…"

My heart sank at his words and I inhaled sharply. Cahir had acted all along like it doesn't matter if we couldn't have an heir but now he thought he needed a breeder to prevent him from messing around. I was gullible to have believed him.

I shut my eyes and he folded me in his embrace.

"Trust me, honey, it is nothing. She is just a breeder. We just need her to raise a successor and conserve my bloodline."

"It's a concluded matter and I don't have a say," I muttered and heaved a sigh as I rested my head on his shoulders.

When we left the garden, he led me to his chambers where his mother, some of the elders and Daphne, a childhood friend of Cahir and I, were already waiting.

Why is Daphne here? No way! She can't be the breeder! I said to myself and swallowed the phlegm in my throat.
