Selena sighed for the tenth time in the taxi that she was riding. She looked outside and just stared at the surroundings blurring by. She was still confused as to why she had accepted Owen, Andrew and Darral's request.
Andrew was really smart and he was the best analyst they had in their force but despite that, Andrew agreed with Darral's dumb idea. Selena didn't believe that Asriel Parker was guilty as Darral, Andrew and Owen did.
But putting Darral's points into consideration and stating Asriel Parker as the killer, it was possible.
It could be that Asriel was just putting himself as the victim just so that he would be removed from the culprit list and he probably didn't flee the country because it would be suspicious. Asriel Parker had mommy abandonment issues when he was younger and probably hated women, hence the psychotic killing. Besides, if he didn't want the other women dead then why didn't he let them live with him? Why was he so careless as to date them and not keep them in his house. He knew what happened each time he dated so why did he go ahead anyway?
Maybe Darral's thinking was way off or it was as accurate as it usually was. Either way, Selena didn't understand why she had agreed to their idea. She was a woman and to do what they asked, she had to get closer to Asriel but getting closer to him meant that she would be the new Parker girl killer target. Again she sighed. She just couldn't help it.
"We are here miss." The taxi driver said, snapping her out of her trance. She removed her money from her pocket and paid him. "Whatever it is that is making you sigh, it will get better soon."
She smiled back at the man and thanked him then got out of the car, heading straight to her house. She opened the door and went straight to the kitchen in search of her dinner. For some reason, she was feeling very hungry.
She found Gina in her pajamas, standing by the kitchen sink while eating a bowl of ice cream.
"Hey Gina." Selena said heading to the fridge. Gina smiled at her but did not say a word _ a clear sign that Gina was unhappy about something. That made Selena frown. She sighed and crossed her arms. "What's wrong Gina?"
"The fact that you left the door wide open justifies the actions I was starting to feel guilty about." Gina said, holding her sweet smile that carried so many threats.
Crap. Selena smacked her forehead as she headed back to the front door that she had just come in through. Of all days, she chose this one to leave the door wide open. That was just the luck she needed. Selena understood Gina's overemphasis of always closing the windows and locking the all doors and not allowing strangers into the house. They lived in a neighborhood with burglars and killers. The strange part was that most people looked like they could afford two expensive cars and a motorcycle, so the mysterious thieves were always just that to her _ mysterious. Maybe they weren't even from that neighborhood.
She headed back to the kitchen and found that Gina had set up her food on a plate _ to be specific, her ice-cream on a plate. Selena looked at the plate and then at Gina then back to the plate again. She didn't like the look of either.
"Uhm Gina, why is there ice-cream for dinner?" Selena asked, fearing the worst answer. Gina licked her spoon clean and put her bowl in the sink before turning to answer her.
"I was upset so I sold all our food and replaced everything in the fridge with ice-cream." Gina said. Selena's mouth quirked up to form a smile and she shook her head in amusement. Gina and her temper tantrums always did that to her; they amused her.
"So I might be dead in a few days." Selena blurted randomly. She had her eyes on her phone ordering pizza. At least Gina didn't do something like renting out the house again. Yes, she had done it before just to prove to some random man that she was free to do whatever the hell she wanted.
"Relax girl, the ice-cream isn't that bad. In fact, there are so many flavours to choose from in the fridge. Though I suggest you stay away from the rainbow looking one. It looks good but trust me, looks can be deceiving." Gina said sitting down.
"Not that Gina, I am talking about my job. I will not be staying here anymore." Selena said while rolling her eyes.
Gina gasped. "Really? You are abandoning me? At a time like this? What about our Interpol dream?"
Selena smiled at the mention of their shared dream. Since joining the police college and rekindling their friendship, they had discovered that they had the same dream of working for Interpol and becoming one of the higher ranking officers. They were both working towards that goal by making sure that they were outstanding in their current positions.
"Relax Gina, it's just temporal. I am going undercover to work for Asriel Parker so that we can carry out better investigations. For all we know, Asriel could be the killer." Selena said to calm her friend.
Gina frowned. It was as clear as day that she was against the idea. "Well then if he is the killer, don't you think that you are putting your life in danger?"
Selena shrugged and looked at her plate of melting ice-cream. For a moment, she wondered why Gina put it on a plate instead of a bowl. Was it her payback? Gina cleared her throat and Selena looked up at her. Gina was glaring at Selena like she wanted nothing more than to chew someone's head off.
"Did Darral put you up to this?" Gina asked angrily. "That man. Just because he is some hottie he thinks that the world revolves around his pretty face. I have seen people almost as gorgeous as him but they don't act all cocky and send helpless women to their death."
Selena laughed at Gina's rambling. Selena wasn't sure as to whether she was supposed to take what Gina was babbling as an insult to Darral or a compliment. But with Gina, it was probably both.
"And what is so funny?" Gina asked as she crossed her arms and glared at her friend.
"Nothing Gina," Selena said shaking her hand. "It's just that I can't help but wonder what type of Interpol cops we will be if we are afraid of a little danger. Interpol does a lot of things but most of the time, it's dangerous. If this little mission scares me off then I am not fit to work at Interpol."
Gina sighed and dropped her head on her crossed hands on the table. Selena was right but she was still against the idea. For the first time in her life, she hated the fact that she had to support Selena. "All the best then."
"Thank you Gina. I'm glad that you are supporting me even if you are against it." Selena said with a smile.
Gina looked up at her."So when do you leave?"
"In three days hopefully. Most likely less than a day with the way Andrew moves. I first have to get a job with Asriel if this is going to work." Selena answered. Just then, the doorbell rang _ the pizza had arrived. Selena stood up and went to open the door. She paid the teenage boy delivering the food and went back with it to the kitchen.
"I ordered pizza." Selena said excitedly and sat down to open the box of pizza. Gina was the first one to grab a piece of pizza. She took a bite and moaned at the cheesy goodness in her mouth.
Selena sighed while rolling her eyes. "Bad habits Gina. Why do you still moan every time we have pizza? Next time, I am ordering a bucket of hot chicken wings."
In response, Gina moaned even louder and gave her a cheeky grin with her mouth full. Selena chose to ignore her and eat her slices in silence. Though Selena was not planning on telling Gina that she was going to miss her weird sounds whenever she was eating pizza, she couldn't help but sigh inwardly at the thought of not being with her friend.
"I'll call you whenever I can Gina." Selena said with a small smile. Gina swallowed her food and smiled back.
"Well of course you will. How else are you going to stay alive?" Gina answered. Selena was confused by her answer but before she could ask, Gina elaborated. "It means that if you don't call me then I will kill you."
Selena couldn't help but laugh at Gina's facial when she made the threat. Soon Gina had joined in the laughing and suddenly, they no longer knew what they were laughing at _ they were just laughing. And just like that, Selena somehow just knew that everything was going to end up being okay.
Selena looked at piece of paper in her hands; the resume that Darral had written for her and given her earlier that morning. Since she didn't have time to read it, she still had no idea of what was written in it. She then looked at the tall building in front of her. She was feeling uneasy about Owen, Andrew and Darral's idea but she had already agreed to do it and there was noway she was backing out of it. Selena March was not one to back out of anything that she had agreed to do, especially a task that would most likely put her in Interpol. With her dreams of Interpol in mind, she walked into the ten storey building in front of her; The manufacturing company known as Gratia Plena. It was a very famous manufacturing company and it offered legal advice as well. A lot of products from the super market were either from Gratia Plena or Timmy's. It was well known that the two companies were rivals but it was quite obvious whic
My name is Selena March and I am awesome!Selena couldn't hold in her grin when Asriel offered her a ride back to Gratia Plena. She was grinning through out the silent car ride, she was grinning at the building parking lot and she was grinning when walking back into the building. She almost stuck out her tongue at Wanda when walking by the front desk.Asriel looked at Wanda's desk and sighed. He walked to her desk and she sat up straighter. A bright smile on her face."Good morning sir Asriel." She greeted cheerily. Selena frowned at her from behind Asriel. It was as if she was a completely different person.Asriel only nodded in response to her greeting and picked up her name t
Selena silently thanked Wanda for her help _ even if Wanda didn't know that she had helped Selena. Earlier, when Wanda was apologizing she had blabbed about how she lived being on the top most floor with Asriel and Asaiah. In the elevator, the highest number was the one for the eleventh floor and since Ataliah had told her that she should ask for Asaiah's office on that floor, she could easily conclude that that was where Asriel's office was as well. The doors opened when she got to the floor. She walked out of the elevator and looked at the boring looking hallway. Besides the flowers in a vase at the far end corner of the hallway, the only other things there were doors. Who was she supposed to ask anyway? She walked forward, and noticed the open office at the very beginning of the hallway. There was a man seated there typing furiously on the computer keyboar
The lady who had identified herself as Selena March smiled victoriously as she walked out of his office. Asriel could basically hear her humming happily. He sat down and smiled to himself_ he could not help but find her determination and wit attractive. It was attractive, not that he was attracted to her or anything like that _ well, that was what he told his mind anyway. He looked at his then organised desk and tossed the document that she was reading _ the document that linked him and Veronica. The desk looked good and the way she had put the sticky notes were also in an easy to understand type of order. A thought struck him and he frowned. She had told him the truth but he knew without any doubt that she had left out a lot and was hiding most of it. All she said was obviously a drop in an ocean compared to the whole truth. He rubbed his temples with a heav
***Selena sat up in her bed with her eyes closed. She was not pleased with the loud incessant knocking on her bedroom door and the fact that she had a pounding headache was not making it any better."Go away!" She shouted angrily, massaging her temples to reduce her headache. It wasn't working in the slightest. To her surprise, the knocking stopped and the silence was followed by the sound of footsteps walking away. She opened her eyes to check on her alarm clock only to freeze. She did not know which room she was in or where she actually was. The room was way bigger than her bedroom in her house. It's design was that of an old yet beautifully maintained room. Her eyes landed on the huge flat screen TV on top of her door that showed the time. Right next to her bed was a small table with a mirror and a stool. The
Just as she put the last file in the cabinet, the door behind her opened. She turned around and saw a tall good looking man walk in. His curly hair was neatly tied in a man bun. He was in a navy blue suit and he had his eyes on his phone. "Hey, Asri_" he stopped mid-sentence when he looked up and saw Selena instead. Grey. His eyes were pale grey just like a certain unimpressed boss she had in mind. Selena was not really a fan of men with beards but this one she could swoon over. It was short and well kept. His ears had two piercings each but only his left ear piercings had ear rings."Well hello there, Love." He said grinning from ear to ear. It made Selena feel very uncomfortable but she chose to ignore the feeling and smiled back at him.
"What is wrong with you?" Asaiah asked when Asriel let go of him outside the office."It is Selena. She does not know the actual truth about this company." Asriel answered pocketing his hands. Asaiah's face became pale. He was just as startled as he was worried."Asriel, how could you be so careless?" Asaiah exclaimed. Asriel pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. "You know that those staffers are not allowed to go above the ninth floor. The only accessible place for them on the tenth floor is Ataliah's office and they only go there on their first day!""Please stop shouting." Asriel said looking around as if someone might just walk in on them arguing. Asaiah waved his hand dismissively."Calm down brother. After all everyone on this floor is already familiar with our situation." Asaiah said sarcastically. The glare he had
Selena waved off the taxi after paying. She had her eyes on the police building in front of her. She smiled as she walked towards it_ it felt way more comfortable than being at Gratia Plena. She opened the door and walked into the reception area, looking around as if she hadn't been there for ages.Selena waved in greeting to Winter, the police secretary and she waved back with a smile.Selena went on to the main hall where the main business at the station happened. Everyone's desks were there and it was usually in a bustle. She looked around until she saw her desk right next Darral's desk. It was then that she knew that she really missed working at the station with everyone else. Her detective role was always so busy and thrilling. She usually carried out sting operations after tracing the perpetrator(s) of a case but never full undercover operations_ despite it being a main part of her job.Although working at Gratia Plena
The hotel where the gala was being held was surrounded by a lot paparazzi photographers and media vans. Selena found herself clinging onto Asaiah’s arm as he led her towards them. She could feel her nervousness increasing ever so slightly with every step.“Just a heads up for you.” Asaiah whispered to her. “I have never attended any event with a partner before so these people are definitely going to follow you around now and then.”“What?” Selena said surprised. “Just for being your partner?”Asaiah chuckled and nodded. Selena sighed when she remembered that the Parkers were famous people. Living with them and seeing them a lot just made it slip her mind. What also slipped her mind was the fact that Asaiah was not the type to stick to one woman and he probably chose not to go with part
Selena hadn’t the slightest idea when she had fallen asleep. She did not even remember getting into a car with Asriel or how she ended up on her bed. However, she did remember that she had followed Asriel to Lanes Street and had somehow been noticed along the way.She also remembered a name that she knew might be connected to Asriel.Larry Smithson.Whoever this Larry was, Selena knew for a fact that he was going to be a major clue. She sat up on her bed and reached straight for her phone in her bag. She smiled when she saw all her missed calls and messages from Darral. She dialled his number and he answered immediately.“And where the hell did you disappear to? Weren’t you supposed to text me your coordinates? How dare you get back to me this late! You probably had so much fun that you just decided
Selena was thankful that Asriel had not given much thought to how and why she had gotten to work so early in the morning. She ran to the car park and got into the passenger seat of a car and strapped herself in. “Follow that car.” She said to Darral who just to happened to be the driver. “I missed you too Selena.” Darral said with a fake frown. Selena put on her seatbelt and threw a sharp glare at him. Just who id he think he was to start messing around when they had an important task to do? Darral smiled teasingly as he started the engine immediately pulled out of the parking lot and got on the road. Staying four to three cars behind Asriel’s car, they followed him until he stopped in front of Plato’s restaurant. “Could he be stopping for a meal this early?” Darral asked. &n
Asriel stretched his arms and back as he walked down the stairs of the house to the living-room. Because of Emmanuel’s therapy sessions, he had missed three days worth of appointments, paperwork and reviews. Knowing Asaiah, he probably took the fact that Ariel was not breathing on his neck as a chance to slack off. He knew he had too much work to do.Deciding against having breakfast at home, he walked out of the house. Because it was quite early, Asriel chose not to wake up Zach from his well deserved rest. Selena on the other hand did not deserve any rest after getting him kidnapped from his own room.As he walked to his car, he pulled out his phone and dialled Selena’s line. To his surprise, she picked up on the first ring.“Hello and good morning sir.” She said cheerily. She even sounded wid
"Will that be all?" The waiter asked Selena and Gina as he finished writing down what Gina had just ordered. "Yes, that will be all. Thank you." Gina said smiling while Selena just nodded. The waiter bowed his head. "Very well then." He turned to leave but stopped and stared at the flowers in the vases that were on each side of the door as if he had seen something displeasing. Gina and Selena watched him in confusion as he muttered to himself angrily and started rearranging the flowers. It only took him two minutes to finish his task after which he smiled like he had just won the lottery and left quickly. The flower arrangement did not even look any different from the way it was initially. Gina rolled her eyes. "What a perfectionist. The flowers do not even look different."
Selena looked around Emmanuel Scofield's living room in awe. It's main decor was flower vases and paintings. There was a large portrait of Emmanuel's family. His wife and three daughters had bright smiles on their faces. Emmanuel was holding a sleeping baby boy and was smiling too."Mr Scofield's house is beautiful, right Zach?" Selena said to Zach who was seated on the couch in the same room. When he did not respond, Selena grinned at him."Zach, do not be such a cry baby. I only beat you once and yet you are acting like I am the worst person alive."Zach glared at her. "You promised to not speak of that to anyone.""And you promised to be a new friend of mine." Selena said with a pout and her arms crossed. "So friend, isn't Emmanuel's house lovely?"Zach sighed and looked away. He was stil
For the third consecutive night, Asriel woke up feeling cold and sweating at the same time. He was breathing heavily as if he been running in his sleep. He glanced at the digital wall clock on top of his door and realised that he had only slept for about an hour."Damn it!" He said as he slowly got out of his bed. He hated over working himself but he hated sleeping more, especially if it meant that he had to deal with the same nightmares over and over again. He walked out to the balcony and stood at the edge while staring off into space. He sighed, suddenly regretting the fact that he had skipped another therapy session with Emmanuel. Most of the time, Emmanuel would call him and find out why he skipped a session or just force him to come all together but not that time. Asriel was not even sure if he was relieved or worried.
Selena plopped down on her bed after walking in. It was just a simple task of reading through business emails and cancelling some meetings but it was still so tiring. If she kept on being an office lady then she would end up going out of shape and Andrew Darral and Gina would make fun of her for the rest of her life.Asriel, Asaiah and Ataliah obviously did more work than her but still managed to keep themselves in shape so she was going to do so herself – after some shuteye of course.Selena almost fell off her bed when she heard some really loud knocking on her door. The clock on her table showed that it was eleven PM."Come in." Selena called while rubbing her sleepy eyes and yawning. The door burst open and Tracy danced in right after. Yes, she was literally dancing to a tune that was probably in her mind, seeing as she had no headsets or headphones on.&nb
"No." Asriel stated firmly without looking up at Selena. He had the annoying habit of not giving her or anyone else his full attention. The only one who was ever able to grab all of his attention was Asaiah– and that was probably because he had to keep an eye on him.It had been a week since Selena started working with Asriel but all he ever let her do was sort out files and recite to him his schedule. Such was an obstacle in her investigation. Maybe if she had more access to his life then she would perhaps gather a little more information about him and his connection with the case."Sir," Selena said as she sat down in front of him on the guest chair. He still had his eyes on the laptop and it was starting to annoy her more than it usually did."With all due respect, I am tired of you only giving me these tiny tasks that you probably used to do yourself before you got yourself a new assistant. Do yo
