Mark’s POV
“You mean I should talk to her?” I asked like I didn’t hear her at first.
“Yes, Mark.” My therapist replied. “Have an actual conversation with her that doesn’t involve you bickering about the inheritance. You said she helped you and didn’t even try to mock you or get in your face. That tells a lot and it is only appropriate for your peace.”
I exhaled, “I don’t think I can do that Clara. I already gave up on the court case, that is enough. There should be other ways to deal with my issues.”
“Having difficult conversations can ease that for you.”
Kate’s POV Dinner was awkward for me. The rest seemed to have had a relaxing time. Whenever Mark and I sat at the same table to eat it only meant trouble. We never got along, there was always something to argue about which isn’t my fault and obviously his. “You don’t look too good,” Lois noted as I saw them off to the car. I rubbed at the back of my neck. “Something just doesn’t feel right. I have a feeling I might walk right into a death trap when you two are gone.” “If that is the case, you should come with us. I have no idea why Brianna thought it right to ask him to dinner. Her wolf is so oblivious.” He sounded pissed. Patting his arm reassuringly, I grinned. “Don’t worry, it can’t be that bad. If I don’t text you tomorrow, you should come check then.” He pulled at my nose, chuckling. “You play too much.” “Goodnight!” I waved. With their car fading into the night, a dreadful cold eased into my pores. I don’t think I want to know whatever is going on in Mark’s mind. I
Dame’s POV“This is nonsense,” Lance whined next to me.I sucked my teeth and turned an angry glare at him. “I am not asking for your opinion, Lance. Ialready made up my mind and I am doing this.”“Have you thought of what would become of you when Jean finds out? I thought we talkedabout this, Alpha Dame.”“I stayed back the first time, not wanting to ruin things. I am not going to indulge in that againthis time around. I intend to do everything it takes to get Kate back. I have to go now. Thanks forthe ride.”I didn’t wait to hear his shitty opinion before getting out of the car and making my way to therestaurant. I had the entire space booked. With my glasses and cap, I wouldn’t be noticed easilywhen I walked in. It is why I didn’t drive myself down here, taking a cab would have been toomuch hassle too. I took them off as soon as I got into the
Jean’s POV“Bastard!” I bared my teeth, punching at Dame’s row of clothes.A sharp pain crossed my underbelly, I groaned leaning into the drawers. Shutting my eyes tightlyfor the pain to pass. I heaved a deep sigh, steeling myself when another pain surged through mydepths. Goosebumps laced my arms until I felt relief. The doctor warned me against stressingmyself that there might be complications.I am just about to end my first trimester. With the way Dame keeps making it so hard for me toease into the change happening in my body, I might lose the child. Tears laced my eyes. Everytime I tell myself that I can’t keep living like this, I end up finding it hard to just go about my dailyactivities without looking out for Dame.He hasn’t been home in a week. That stupid Quadrick kept doing everything in his power toprevent me from entering Dame’s office. It's almost like he is
Kate’s POV“Never knew that jerk had a streak of romance in him.” Lois snorts at the large bouquet of rosessitting on the table.I chuckled, keeping my eyes on the file that I was signing. Dame has been going high and aboardto show just how intact his affection for me is. Practically everyone in the building is aware of hisinterest in me. Naturally, I would ask him to tone it down, but it is all part of the game plan tomake him get carried away.“It is still thoughtful don’t you think?” I joked. He scoffed with an eye roll. “Oh, please. There is nothing thoughtful about that silly Alpha. Youneed to see the state of the north end of the pack. He isn’t paying attention to the needs of hispack members. But he is here trying to move mountains for a love gone sour.”“You are just jealous.” I teased.“Yeah, right,” Lois mumbled with a fake shiver.
Jean’s POVI staggered my way to the elevator. Going to Dame was only going to add to my trouble. Myheart clenched tightly as the tears poured down my face. I am so devastated, I want to fall to theground and claw at the earth. My wolf howled restlessly. The goddess couldn’t just give me this one thing! The one thing I seek is Dame and having afamily with him. Just when I was hopeful that my dream family would soon come true, Kate hadto show up.I found it hard to believe when I probed further about Kate’s arrival and discovered that sheworked at Dame’s company. Not just that but she heads the company. How does that even makeany sense? Who the fuck wrote the damned script? I should just kill her! She doesn’t deserve tobe alive. The confidence in her eyes makes me want to claw them out. It is all Dame’s fault if he hadn’tgiven her the courage. Kate would never think to talk t
Kate’s POVThankful for the spirit of patience. I definitely would have ripped through Dame’s insides if notfor that.“Jean is pregnant and you didn’t think to let me know?” I gnawed my teeth.Dame chuckled awkwardly, “I didn’t tell you because it won’t change anything.”“Of course, it changes everything!” I bellowed, it seems I am putting too much action into thepretense. “You will never change Dame. You are all about yourself and nothing else. I do notwant to be seen with a man who has a child on the way. I am not going to let you give me the tagof a homewrecker.”He leaned to my side, but I held my hand up to stop him from coming closer. “I promise you,Kate. It is not what you think. How she got pregnant is a funny story. She took my sperm withoutmy consent and inseminated it into her belly. I only allowed her to stay because I did not w
Mark’s POVI hardly ever see Kate around. Even when she is home, she seems to be locked away in her room.I always thought she loved going out. Didn’t realize she was a homebody. There are a lot ofthings that I am getting to know about her and it sort of amuses me. Still skeptical about herintentions, but as Clara and my dad advised, I am trying to give her the benefit of the doubt.Lately, whenever she returns home with a snack, she knocks on the door and informs me thatmine is on the kitchen island. We pay each other that much respect and stay in our lanes.I watched as she dragged her feet through the grass to get to the car. For a brief moment, Ihoped she would look towards the garden and acknowledge. I have no idea why I want that, but Ido want it.“Are you okay? You look lost.” Rayna asked next to me.Shit! I had totally forgotten that I had a guest. I shook my head and coughed. “So sorry
Dame’s POV“What do I have to do to get your attention, Kate? Why are you being this way with me?” Iwhined into the phone. She stayed quiet for a long while before making a slight sound. “Dame, I already told you. I amnot going to get on board with someone who is still very married. Do you know her mother cameto threaten me that day? How am I supposed to get on with you when there is so much thatneeds to be checked? If you want me as you said, we would have to start afresh. I have no oneon my radar too. Do right by me for once.”“Baby….”“Bye, Dame,” Kate mumbled and ended the call.I slammed the phone against the table cursing under my breath. It is all that damn Judith andJean’s fault. It didn’t occur to me on time that Judith had come to Kate’s office for that day. I justfelt she was trying to renew their bond as a family. Knowing how m
