Kayla stirred awake, the warmth of the blankets wrapped around her like a gentle embrace. The air was cool, and the soft glow of the nightlight bathed the room in a soothing hue. Blinking, she sat up slowly, the weight that had pressed on her chest for years feeling just a little lighter. For the first time in a long time, the night had not swallowed her whole in nightmares. There were no hands grabbing her, no whispers haunting her, no suffocating darkness. Just sleep—deep, undisturbed, and peaceful.

She exhaled, running a hand through her hair as she took in her surroundings. The plushie she had been clutching was still in her arms, its soft fabric comforting against her skin. A small, hesitant smile crossed her lips. It was strange—feeling this… safe.

Shaking off the drowsiness, Kayla swung her legs over the bed and padded toward the bathroom. The mirror greeted her with the reflection of a girl who still carried her past in her eyes. Violet and icy blue—two colors that had o

Kayla looked at the ancient looking building in front of her as her nerves got the best of her. Her heart was beating wilding like it was going to jump out of her chest. People were glancing at her left and right, and she knew why, her eyes. She has heterochromia, but her eyes were not the usual heterochromia mix, like blue and green or brown and a more natural colour. One of her eyes was silver, almost light in colour that her eyeball looked completely white. Her other eye was a light violet in colour. The colours of her eyes contrast against her brown skin, making them stand out the more. She always make use of glasses to tone down the colour but it is still noticeable. She brushed her hair to cover her face, her hair was a natural virgin hair that sat full and large on her head making her look smaller. Kayla always love music and learnt to play a lot of instruments by herself in a music store close to the orphanage where she grew up. That is why she always wanted to stud

Victor King entered the lecture hall, his suitcase in his left hand, his expensive Italian shoes clicking against the floor gaining the attention of every person in the hall. The noise in the hall quietened as everyone stared at him but he did not look at any one of them, walking down to his desk, he placed the suitcase on it before finally turning around. He leaned on the desk, rolling up his sleeves to his elbows exposing his tattoos and bulging muscles. Some of the ladies in the hall squealing at the sight. He looked at each and everyone of them, not saying a word. Until his golden brown eyes met with a mismatched ones. From the description his brother has mentioned, this is the girl that had him distracted. She looked so small in the sea of other students, her big glasses sitting on her button nose only made her look even more cute. Her black full hair fanned around her face like some sort of halo. 'She is so beautiful. And perfect.' he thought, now he see why his brothe

Kayla tried to be as fast as possible to get ready for her class. How she slept through her alarm, she has no idea. When she finally finished getting ready, she grabbed her bag which thankfully she had organised last night and left the room, locking the door behind her. She ran down the stairs and once outside, began to sprint, she probably had like five more minutes before the class starts. Not like she will get there on time, but she does not want to be too late. She ran faster, hitting and bumping into different people, apologies flew out of her lips without even stopping. She finally arrived in front of the big door, breathing heavily, she grabbed the handle and went in. The people in the hallway were less, meaning she was so late. Everyone is inside already. Not looking ahead, she bumped into something hard, the force pushing her few steps backwards but a muscular arm wrapped around her to steady her. She looked up to see who she had bumped into and her eyes widened as the

Kayla got to the bakery. This time she was the only one in, with the other girl that always insulted her. Her only companions, Alessandro and Lucas were not around. She quietly got into the kitchen and began to work. The day had a theme of fruit pastries so she planned to make Apple Turnovers, Berry Danish Pastries, Lemon Curd Tartlets, Strawberry Cream Cheese Croissants, and Banana Nutella Turnovers. It was a lot of work but she got into it. Kayla tied her apron tightly around her waist, rolled up her sleeves, and began setting out the ingredients she needed. The kitchen was quiet except for the faint hum of the refrigerator and the clinking of her utensils. It felt almost peaceful, even if she was dreading the inevitable snide remarks from her coworker. She started with the apple turnovers, peeling and chopping the apples into neat, even pieces. She worked methodically, letting the soothing routine of baking calm her nerves. As the cinnamon and sugar mixture coated the apples,

The King brothers were sitting in their office waiting for Elijah. Elijah is the right hand man of the brothers and the only person that they have trusted all their lives since they became Mafia Kings. They were already getting impatient. "Call him." Alistair said to Elliot, agitated. Just then, someone knocked on the door. The door opened and the person they were expecting came in. Elijah was a very big man, standing at about 6'3", he was even taller than the brothers who are 6'0". He hardly wears suit and prefers to be comfortable in combat outfits or joggers and hoodie like he is wearing at the moment. He hardly talked and sometimes always mistaken to be mute by other people. "You took your time to show up." Victor said to Elijah, who merely shrugged as he took his seat. He placed a file each in front of the three of them. "There is nothing much about her, I'm still investigating more but I brought this for you guys." Elijah explained. Victor opened his file first and his

Kayla was busy baking in the kitchen. She was the only one alone in the kitchen, her favorite coworkers, Lucas and Alessandro were not around making her alone with Madeline, the one who always bullies her. Today's pastries were simple and easy to make so Kayla got to work immediately. Kayla concentrated on kneading the dough, her hands moving skillfully as she toiled in quiet. The inviting aroma of butter and vanilla permeated the air, fostering a cozy ambiance—an environment that was swiftly interrupted by Madeline's arrival. "For once, you're actually doing something correctly," Madeline mocked, resting against the counter with her arms folded. Kayla inwardly sighed but chose not to reply. She had realized long ago that interacting with Madeline only worsened the situation. Rather, she went on molding the dough, resolved to disregard her. Madeline, on the other hand, was not someone to be overlooked. She approached nearer, her pointed nails clicking on the counter. "It mu

The King brothers strolled into the mall, their eyes scanning the bustling surroundings as they silently agreed on a single mission—get what Kayla needed. While they were used to extravagant shopping trips filled with luxury items for themselves or gifts for business acquaintances, this time felt different. It was personal. They wanted to spoil her. But not too much. Kayla was quiet, reserved, and they could tell she wasn’t the type to accept lavish gifts easily. If they overwhelmed her, there was a chance she might retreat, and the last thing they wanted was to push her away. “We’ll keep it simple,” Victor said, his deep voice steady. “But thoughtful.” Alistair nodded. “Agreed. Let’s each pick out something useful for her.” Without further discussion, they split up, each brother heading to a different section of the store. Victor walked confidently toward the shoe section, his keen gaze inspecting the orderly shelves. The aroma of new leather permeated the atmosphere as h

Kayla paused at the doorway, her hand lingering on the shiny doorknob for a split second more than needed. She couldn’t understand why Victor had summoned her to his office, yet she was unable to dispel the sense of dread that lodged itself deep within her stomach. Had she committed a mistake? She searched her mind, but nothing surfaced. Drawing a deep breath, she finally knocked on the door. "Come in." a deep voice said behind the closed door. Kayla took another deep breath and opened the door. The large office was tastefully decorated, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that let the late afternoon sunlight fill the space with a cozy ambiance. Nonetheless, the view that met her caused her to hesitate. All three brothers of King were present. Victor leaned against the desk, arms casually crossed, yet his gaze remained keen and steady. Alistair rested against the wall with relaxed assurance, his blue eyes observing her intently, while Elliott perched on the edge of the leather co

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Kayla took a deep breath, the air catching in her throat. "There's… there's something I need to tell you," she whispered, her voice barely audible. The brothers leaned forward, their attention focused on her. "We're listening, Kayla," Alistair said gently, his eyes filled with reassurance. Kayla's fingers tightened around each other, her knuckles turning white. "It's about my… my past," she began, her voice trembling. "In the orphanage…" She paused, struggling to find the words, to articulate the horrors that had haunted her for so long. "It wasn't… it wasn't a good place," she continued, her voice barely a whisper. "I was… different." She glanced up at them, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and vulnerability. A month had passed since the amusement park trip, and Kayla’s life had changed in ways she never imagined. The brothers made it their mission to take her to new places, showering her with experiences she had never had before. Whether it was a quiet art gallery, a boat ride on the river, or simply a peaceful walk through the city’s botanical gardens, each outing left Kayla feeling special. She was still shy around them, still hesitant to believe their affection would last, but the way they treated her made it hard to resist. Most evenings, she found herself at their penthouse, surrounded by warmth, comfort, and the steady presence of the three men who had become an unexpected part of her life. One evening at the Kings' Mansion. Kayla sat on the couch, cross-legged, her laptop resting on her lap. Alistair was beside her, watching her type with a smirk. Elliot lounged on the other side, twirling a pen between his fingers, while Victor sat at the dining table, reading over some docu

But dreams didn’t last forever, and a small voice in the back of her mind warned her not to get too comfortable. If only she knew—the brothers had no intention of letting her go. Not in this lifetime. That afternoon, after her last class, Kayla nervously made her way to their office. She had received a simple text from Elliot:Elliot: Come to our office after class, sweetheart. We have plans.Plans? The thought made her stomach flutter with a mixture of excitement and nerves. She knocked lightly before stepping inside.Alistair looked up first, a slow smile spreading across his lips. "There’s our girl."Kayla’s face warmed. “You… wanted to see me?”Victor closed a file on his desk, nodding. "We’re taking you somewhere."Elliot grinned, stepping closer. "A surprise.""A surprise?" Kayla sat in the back seat of the luxurious car with the brothers. The car reminded her of a limousine, a driver was behind the wheels driving them to their destination. "Where are we going?" Kayla asked them. Alistair picked her hand, rubbing it gently. "You will see, baby girl. Be patient." he said. Kayla’s heart fluttered at the affectionate way Alistair stroked her hand, his deep voice sending a warmth through her. She glanced at Elliot, who was watching her with a smirk, while Victor remained as composed as ever, his sharp eyes taking in her every reaction. The city lights blurred past as they drove through the quiet streets. The anticipation built in Kayla’s chest—where exactly were they taking her? Finally, the car came to a smooth stop in front of an elegant, glass-walled rooftop restaurant. The view of the city skyline stretched behind it, a breathtaking sight under the night sky. Victor was the first to step out, offering his hand to Kayla. “Come, you’ll love it.” She

Kayla stepped out of the King brothers' office, only to find Veronica following her closely. She sighed, adjusting the strap of her bag. "Are you also following me to work?" "Yes, of course," Veronica replied, completely unbothered. "I am your bodyguard, after all." Kayla groaned. "And how exactly am I supposed to explain your presence to my coworkers?" Veronica smirked, her eyes twinkling mischievously. "Simple. Just say hello to your new coworker. Although I’m a kitchen hazard, I can handle other tasks." Kayla stopped mid-step and turned to face her. "You already got a job?" "Your boyfriends pulled some strings," Veronica said smoothly. "Figured it’d be easier if I was officially employed rather than lurking around like a stalker." Kayla's face turned red. "They're not my boyfriends," she muttered. "Right." Veronica’s smirk only widened. As they reached the café, Kayla shot her a wary glance. "Just… try not to scare anyone, okay?" Veronica placed a hand on her ch

Kayla squeaked and faced forward making Veronica laugh. "You are too cute, I thought the brothers were asking me to come babysit some spoilt brat." Veronica smiled. "How do you know I am not a spoilt brat?" Kayla asked her. "I just know, don't worry about that." Veronica smiled and they walked into the hall. Kayla found her usual spot to sit and Veronica followed her taking a seat. Kayla glanced at Veronica, still processing everything. "So… you’re really my bodyguard?" Veronica leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs. "Yep." Kayla chewed on her lip. "And you’re just going to follow me around all day?" Veronica smirked. "Pretty much. Though, I promise I won’t hover too much—unless I have to." Kayla sighed, running a hand through her hair. "This is so weird." "You’ll get used to

Kayla walked into the dining room with the brothers surrounding her. The dining table was already set with different varieties of food. Kayla took a deep breath as she stepped into the dining room, the rich aroma of freshly prepared dishes filling the air. The long table was elegantly set, adorned with steaming plates of pasta, grilled meats, fresh salads, and warm bread. A bottle of juice and wine sat in the center, accompanied with empty glasses. It was clear that the Kings had gone all out. Elliot pulled out a chair for her. "Sit, sweetheart. You’re the guest of honor tonight." Kayla hesitated for a second before settling into the seat, watching as the brothers took their places around her. Victor sat to her right, Elliot across from her, and Alistair directly beside her. Their presence was overwhelming yet oddly comforting. "You guys didn’t have to do all this," she said softly, eyeing the spread before her. Victor scoffed, pouring himself a glass of wine. "Of course, we

Kayla and Janice walked into the next hall for their lecture, to their surprise, the professor was already there and it turned out to be Alistair. Alistair watched Kayla as she walked into the hall, a girl chatting away beside her. He watched them hoping the girl was not making her uncomfortable but it seem like Kayla was enjoying her company. He would make sure to find out about this new friend. Kayla looking at him for few seconds before looking away with a blush when she saw that he was already looking at her. "This Professor is too handsome." Janice said to Kayla. "And he is strict." Kayla said to her. "I can see that, everyone is so quiet as they walk to their seats."Janice replied. Few minutes later, the last of the students came in and Alistair stood up from his seat to begin the class. Alistair adjusted his cuffs before stepping forward, his sharp gaze sweeping over the students. The lecture hall fell into complete silence as he commanded the room effortlessly. "Good
