-MILA-

I woke up in an empty bed.

Getting to my feet I walked out to find a few guilty looks from the Pack members.

What has he done now? I wondered as I searched for Lobo.

I walked through the Pack, hearing hushed whispers, and I knew it was something bad.

"Lobo?"

Mitch stepped in front of me as I tried to walk into the cabin where Shauna was being kept.

"Get out of my way, Mitch."

"No. I have been given orders to ensure that you do not enter this cabin."

"Mitch, I don't care. Get out of my way. Now."

"No."

I sighed, "Where is Lobo?"

"I'm right here."

I turned to face him, "What have you done with Shauna?"

"She's still in there. She's facing her punishment."

"Which is what?"

"I have injected a mixture into her veins. A diluted silver."

My mouth dropped in surprise, "What? Are you insane?"

"Relax. It will not kill her. It simply causes mild pain and strips her of her wolf abilities for a time until the silver passes from the body."

I raised my brows, "What? Lobo, listen to yourself."

-MILA-"Let go of me!" I snapped at Lobo as he dragged me into our cabin."No, if you won't listen, I will forcefully stop you from this foolishness."I pulled my arm free of his grasp as we stepped inside, "You know why she thinks it's better that we don't have children, don't you?"His hesitation told me my answer."Why? Tell me why she feels this way.""You're seeing things that aren't there, Mila. I don't know why she feels that way."There it was, that strange change in his eyes. "What is going on, Lobo?""I don't know."I had a feeling that was the first time he was being honest with me in a long time. I sat in the chair with a sigh, "This is such a mess.""Please let me handle this. That's all I ask."I nodded, even though I had no intention of doing that."Thank you. Now, I need to take care of Betty.""What's the plan?"Lobo frowned, "I'm going to inject her with the silver mixture, the same way I did with Shauna."I nodded again, "Alright. And then what?""I'm not sure yet.

-MILA-Lobo walked into the cabin, "How did your talk with Betty pan out?"I shrugged, "I think you know how it panned out."He sat down opposite me, "I don't. But I know she agrees with you about Shauna.""And that surprises you? You know how close they were. That doesn't just turn off."He nodded, "I know. Shauna is speaking in front of the Pack tonight.""Don't even try and stop me from going.""I won't.""Now, let's move on to the next thing. What the hell happened to you in that room with Lowell."He rolled his eyes, "Not this again. Nothing happened.""You're lying. Something changed.""I killed my only brother, of course something changed."I raised a brow, "That's not the only thing that changed you. I know that. Stop lying to me, Lobo."He stared at me, I could see he was thinking about something."Lobo, come on. You know that whatever it is, you can trust me. I'm not going anywhere."He got to his feet, "You're imagining things. Nothing happened to me in that room.""The fac

-MILA-I huffed as Lobo gently but firmly shoved me into the chair, slamming the door of the cabin shut."Who has been filling your head with lies about a cure?""Lies? How do you know it's lies?""Because we are supernatural beings, Mila. We are chosen by the moon Goddess. There is no way she would allow a cure."I raised a brow, "Oh really? If that's the case, why did she allow you to become half-demon?""I don't know. I don't know why she does the things she does. None of us do. Only she can tell you that.""Great, so I should find a dead Goddess to answer my questions then?"He sighed, "Mila, there's something I have to tell you.""What now?" I could tell by the tone of his voice that it was something big."I think I might have an idea about Shauna. Why she didn't want us to have children.""What?" I moved forward to the edge of my seat, was he about to tell me what was going on?"There was a prophecy that said my first daughter would be the Goddess reincarnated.""What?" I heard

-MILA-Lobo was pacing the cabin, "No. There is no way that is true. The Goddess does not bring chaos. You know this."Shauna raised a brow, "No, I know what I know. You know a bullshit fairytale." I smirked, even though she looked terrible, she still had an attitude of note."How do you know this?" I asked."I did more research on it. There are parts of the prophecy which couldn't be translated. I worked for hours to translate it all, and it clearly warns us that she will bring destruction with her. She wants to come back so she can make wolves rule. She wants to wipe out the vampires. Do you know what that means? There will be a war between us and them."Lobo took a seat, "I don't believe this. I refuse to believe this, Shauna.""Get someone else to translate it if you don't believe me.""I believe you," I said.Shauna smiled gratefully at me."Why didn't you tell me this before?""Well, you weren't interested in being with your mate. I didn't think there was any chance of you ever

-MILA-Lobo walked into the Pack grounds only a few minutes before Betty and Shauna were due to speak. The half moon was shining with a silvery light in the dark night sky, with very few flickering lights of the stars around it."Took you long enough," I hissed with annoyance, "Did you find anything out?"He shook his head, "No. But I have the written prophecy with a trusted translator.""Good. Now can we get this over and done with, please?"He nodded and we walked into the clearing together. The rest of the Pack was already waiting. Betty and Shauna waited in front of the crowd, ready to give their pleas, Mitch stood beside them giving me a dirty look."When is he going to stop hating me?" I asked in a hushed whisper."He doesn't hate you. He's just not used to taking orders from anyone else."I scoffed, I highly doubted that was the case.I could see the look of hatred in his eyes as he stared at me.Lobo stepped up and I followed him."We have discussed the transgressions against

-MILA-I paced the cabin, Lobo had chosen to lock me in before he left the Pack grounds. He was determined to get the translation done before the verdict about Betty and Shauna. I knew he was trying to prove that Shauna lied about the prophecy. And I was in two minds about how I felt on the matter. If she was telling the truth, that meant I could never have any children. But if she was lying, she would likely be sentenced to death.I wasn't sure how I would handle either of those situations."Mila."I stopped pacing, turning to one of the windows where Elena was standing."What are you doing?" I asked."I'm checking on you. Why did he lock you in?""Apparently, I'm a danger to myself. He didn't want me to tell the Pack about the prophecy." I explained."Why would he want to hide something like that?""He thinks it makes me a target. I don't know. I guess he thinks that the Pack will be concerned for their safety with me around. If he doesn't have a mate, the prophecy can't come true.

-MILA-I screamed in frustration when I didn't shift. I could clearly hear that there was trouble going on out there, and it frustrated me that I was locked in here and unable to do anything about it.I wanted to be out there, helping the rest of the Pack.I tried to get out, but it was no use, Lobo had made sure that I was locked up tightly.A part of me wondered if he suspected there would be trouble today. Another part of me felt guilty and I wondered if I had caused this with my earlier confession.Having no way to get out, I sat down on the edge of the bed and listened to the commotion outside. It sounded like things were getting worse, and much closer.I got back to my feet and went over to the window to have a look out and see what was going on.I couldn't tell much, but I could see wolves fighting. And then I realized that it was my fault. They were trying to get to the cabin and the Pack was circled around it, warding them off. This made me feel even worse. I was in here, sa

-MILA-I hoped the Pack couldn't tell how nervous I was by my inability to stand still. Lobo was addressing them about the prophecy.True to his word, he was telling them that Shauna was mistaken, but that it was no fault of her own.I knew why we had to lie to them, but I wouldn't say I liked it. I wanted to tell them the truth, and I felt guilty standing by while Lobo lied to them.I shifted from one foot to the other, glancing around.I was trying not to look guilty and knew I was failing miserably.I noticed Mitch sneaking glances at me from time to time, which made me think he suspected that we were lying to them all.I caught Mitch's eyes and looked away, casting my eyes downward. Betty and Shauna stood nearby, and both of them kept looking at me too, but I refused to meet their gaze.I was afraid they would be able to see that we were hiding the truth from them.Lobo nudged me and I looked up, realizing I was probably making the situation worse. I forced a smile at him, hoping

-MILA-Lobo.I paused mid step, Theo was forgotten.I fell to my knees as I shifted back into my human form and Lobo immediately came over and placed his jacket around me."Are you okay?"I shook my head. The fever was worse, my limbs were weak and shaky, my body flushing between chills of ice and boiling heat.Betty came over to help me to my feet, "The fever is worse."Lobo looked between the two of us, "Fever? She's sick?"Betty nodded, "Yes.""Why the hell are you running around on this stupid scavenger hunt then?!"Despite the growing pain in the joints of my body, I straightened, "Now is not the time for arguments, Lobo. I need to get to the cure.""The cure?" He looked at me in disbelief, "You're burning up hotter than a furnace and you're worried about the cure?"Betty cleared her throat beside me, "Mila, I'm with him on this one.""We must go on, we are so close." Theo piped up.Lobo glared at him, "Who the hell are you?""A friend of Elena's. I know how to get to the cure."

-MILA-My eyes widened as I looked at the hilt in Elena's pocket. Betty was walking slightly ahead which gave me no chance to warn her about what I was seeing and my heart rate sped up in panic. Was Elena the one who would kill Betty? My mindwas racing, I had to find a way to stop the vision from happening, but I didn't have the slightest clue how to do that.An idea struck me,but I wasn't sure if it would work or not.I took a deep breath and tried to concentrate on Lobo."I don't know if you can hear me-""I hear you, baby, what's wrong?""I need your help. We're on our way through -" My thoughts were interupted as Betty yelped, a figure running at such a speed it was blurred came rushing passed us."What was that?" I asked, pausing to look around."Mila?"Theo seemed calm, "It was a vampire.""Excuse me?" I spun to him with wide eyes, "You said there weren't any vampires here!"He chuckled, "I guess I was slightly mistaken." He spoke with a comical tone to his voice. He spoke as if

-MILA-The test was all but burning a hole through my pocket. But I couldn't go anywhere near it with Theo right beside me.Betty's eyes were glued to the road ahead as we drove toward the spring with the cure.Theo was barking directions and Elena was dead quiet.I turned to look out the window, and said a silent prayer that the test would be negative. If it was positive I wouldn't be able to take the cure. And if I couldn't take the cure, all of this would have been for nothing."What test, Mila?"Shit! I jumped with fright, I hadn't realized that Lobo could hear me. I wasn't even trying to communicate with him at all."Mila?"I didn't look at Elena when I responded, "I'm fine. This fever is killng me." It wasn't a lie, the fever did seem to be getting worse.Theo turned to me, "Perhaps I can distract you a little?"I turned with a frown, "And how do you plan to do that?""I would like to know more of your mate."It seemed strange to me that he would ask about Lobo so suddenly."Why

-MILA-I sat with a blanket around my shoulders curled up on Theo's sofa after having emptied the contents of my stomach. The nausea was strong and I was extremely fevered.Elena and Theo stood together talking in hushed tones while Betty sat on the arm of my chair."I don't trust him." She whispered."Neither do I. Something is up.""Are we going to go with them to the spring?"I nodded, "Of course we are. I need that cure. For all we know I'm getting sick because the Goddess is pissed at me."Betty frowned, "Or you're getting sick because the prophecy is already underway."My head spun in her direction, "What?" A shiver ran down my spine, that was a possibility I hadn't thought of."You have the symptoms."I shook my head, "No." I was in denial. I didn't even want to think that it could be true. Not now when I was so close to the cure."How about you take a test before we leave?" Betty suggested.I glanced over at Elena and Theo, "I don't want them knowing anything about this.""Don

-MILA-We arrived after sundown in the small homely town. The cottage styled houses lined the roads with picturesque front yards and trees set behind them. The moonlight cast blue hues along the bark of the trees."It looks like something out of a fairytale." I commented, slightly in awe of the beauty of it as we drove along."It's a pretty old town. They try to keep it as close to the original as possible." Elena spoke with pride in her voice.I wanted to ask why she left such a beautiful place, but I didn't want to pry."Why did you leave?" Of course, tact was not one of Betty's strong suites.Elena shrugged a shoulder, "I fell in love with a man who shattered my heart and in an attempt to heal, I ran away."The silence that fell between us was dense with sadness. When Elena spoke, she spoke with such emotion that I could feel the heartbreak rolling off of her."Is he the one who thinks wolves are monsters?"I wanted to reach over and smack Betty. She really didn't know when to stop

-MILA-"Can you turn that racket down?" I asked while holding my pounding head.We were drivng toward Elena's hometown and the music on the radio wasn't helping my already pounding head."You're suffering because you refuse to eat." Elena stated matter-of-factly.I rolled my eyes and laid on the back seat. My head felt as if there were tiny construction workers in it, hammering away."When will we get there?" I wanted this all over and done with, the sooner it was over the sooner I could attempt to move forward."It takes a few hours." Betty responded.A few hours? Although it was only now reaching sundown I was already growing impatient."Mila. You better get your ass back here."My eyes darted open but I didn't dare tell Betty and Elena what I had heard. With the way the pair had panicked earlier, I didn't want to risk spooking them any further."When we get to my friend, let me do the talking. He's a little panicky." Something in Elena's voice told me she was hiding something.I sa

-MILA-I stood with my arms crossed over my chest while leaning against the hood of the car while staring at the little motel. Elena was inside the motel arranging rooms for us."I thought Lobo would be mad and want nothing to do with me after this." I spoke suddenly.Betty scoffed, "Like I said before, you clearly didn't think this through.""Obviously not. And now I've put the two of you in danger.""Elena has her own reasons for this, that's not on you. And as for me, I haven't belonged in that Pack for a very long time. I just needed a shove to leave."Her words surprised me, I always assumed that Betty wanted to be apart of the Pack forever. Before I could question her, Elena stepped out and came toward us giving a thumbs up."We've got rooms. We need to check out tomorrow at eleven. But we'll probably be gone before then, right?"Betty nodded, "Yeah, we need to get to your hometown as soon as possible," she looked around the parking lot, "Is there anywhere I can stash my car? If

-MILA-The trees blurred as we drove past. Betty and Elena were talking up a storm in the front while I sulked in the back seat. Although it was by my own doing, I still couldn't get over the pain I was feeling over my choice."Mila?" Betty glanced into the rearview mirror before turning her attention back to the road."Yeah?" I asked, the single word seemed to take more effort than usual, feeling as if it sucked a boat load of energy from me."Are you-""Don't ask if I'm okay, because I'm not, and I don't know when I will be."Elena turned in her seat to face me, "I think you did the right thing. You made a selfless choice based on love. Not many of us would be able to do that.""Well, it doesn't feel like I've done anything good.""Why is it so important to become human again?" Betty asked."When I was with Lowell, I knew the day would come where I would be marked. But he made it sound easier. Since I've been marked it's been hell. I hate this. And now with the prophecy... I can't d

-MILA-I woke up feeling a heavy dread in my stomach and a sense of anxiety beginning to set in, complete with nausea.I looked over at Lobo who was asleep beside me, it was one of the first times he was actually sleeping in for a change, it was also one of the few times where he looked completely peaceful. It calmed me slightly to look at him and a smile crept onto my face, a feeling of warmth spreading through me.I sighed, snuggling closer to him while admiring his beauty. It came to mind that he was misunderstood in many ways. It was easy to see why, he had a way of oozing power. His very presence demanded respect. But that was only his outward appearance. Deep within, he was a soft and caring man.I would even go as far as saying he was emotional and fragile.Suddenly a frown came to my face at the thought. He was willing to give up his whole life for me. Was it fair of me to expect him to do that? The answer was no, it wasn't.I was being incredibly selfish. With a heavy heart,
