Convictions

Skylar tossed and turned in her bed, Jason was drunk and probably not able to take himself home, and she couldn’t just act like it wasn’t her business. Deep down, she was well aware of the fact that she still harboured feelings for the man. With a groan, she fumbled for her phone, turning it on and squinting at the bright screen.

She dialed her ex-father-in-law arranging for him to pick up his son.

“Hello?” he muttered, still half-asleep.

“Hi! Uhmm.. it’s Skylar. Jason is at the club, and he’s probably in no shape to drive. Can you call someone to pick him up?” Jason’s father, sounded tired and exasperated, but he sighed, rubbing. “Yeah, I’ll take care of it,” He mumbled, hesitating a bit before finally he muttered a weak ‘goodnight’.

With that sorted, Skylar collapsed back into bed, hoping to salvage what little sleep she had left.

The next morning, she sat at the kitchen table, nursing a cup of coffee while Emilio, rifled through the fridge.
