Lyra’s POV

The pain in my arm was unbearable, and I winced as I tried to sit up. My gaze fell on the bandage wrapped tightly around it, shielding my broken bones from the air.

I wished I could rip it off and toss it to the floor, but I couldn’t. This bandage was the only thing holding my arm together. I groaned as I finally managed to get out of bed, making my way to the window. Pushing the curtains aside, I let the morning sunlight flood into the room.

The sky was a soft blue, dotted with puffy clouds, but from where I stood, I could see the charred remains of the burnt trees. The sight twisted my gut. Turning back to the bed, I was suddenly struck by the loneliness of it.

Varg had left early this morning, so quickly that I barely had time to register his absence. So much had happened within the pack lately that I wondered if we’d ever have a normal life again.

The door creaked open, and Bethany stepped inside, balancing a tray in her hands. She walked over to the table and carefully

Varg's POVI hated seeing tears in her eyes. It gutted me every time. And every damn time it happened, I wished I could stop it, permanently."You can't," she cried, her voice breaking as she clung to me. "Thanos is too strong, Varg. He could try to take our kids, or do something even worse."I lowered my gaze, my eyes drifting to her injured arm, wrapped in thick bandages. The sight of it sent a sharp pain through my chest, a mix of guilt, anger, and helplessness.I didn't know what to do anymore.Every fucking minute, I felt like I was on the edge of losing my mind, and it was only a matter of time before I finally did.I was drowning in frustration, in helplessness.Cupping her face, I gently turned her toward me, forcing her to look into my eyes. "Please, Lyra," I murmured. "Don’t let fear stop you from fighting. Thanos is strong, but he can't stand up to me. I've seen it. I know it."Her brows furrowed, her gaze flickering with uncertainty. "How do you know that?"I hesitated.Ho

Varg's POV“I'm sure she'll be fine, when she wakes up,” the doctor assured me as we both walked out of the room and into the hallway.“Thank you doctor, and please do whatever you can to ensure the injury doesn't get worst,” I said my voice filled with fear.“I'll try my best,” the doctor adjusted the bag on his hand. “But you have to keep watch on her.“I nodded and he turned and started walking off down the hallway. A sharp sigh escaped my lips and I found myself resting my hand on my waist as I stared straight up.I needed to do something and it had to be fast before Thanos get asses into the mansion and make things worst.“Dad, can I see mom?“ Justine voice pulled me from my thoughts and I turned to see him standing against the door, his hand already on the handle.“Of course you can my love,” I said trying to mutter a smile. “But right now your mom is on dose and she need to sleep so her arm can heal off.“Justine lowered his gaze sadness filled his eyes. “Dad, I'm sorry that I

Lyra's POV“So you hit the switch, and then the light turns on,” my mother’s voice rang in my ears, warm and full of wonder. “Isn’t that magical?”“Yes, Mom,” a young girl giggled. “But basic physics says it’s just science, like some weird man sitting at a desk, scratching his bald head with a pencil, and then, bam! The idea pops up!”My mother laughed, a hearty, melodic sound I could never forget. “Aren’t you the cutest thing ever?” She ruffled my brown hair. “Well, you’re right. It’s science.”"Yes!" I clapped, bouncing on my toes. She smiled, watching me with pride. “You’re a brilliant girl, and that’s why, someday, I want you to be the Alpha of the Moon Pack.”I stopped jumping, freezing in place. My wide eyes met hers.Stepping closer, I watched the scene unfold, watched the little girl who had once been me, clueless to the weight of my mother’s words. I didn’t realize I was crying until I felt the tears trailing down my cheeks. I wiped them away with my palm.“No, Mom,” I murmur

Varg’s POVThe engine growled beneath my grip, the wheels churning against the dirt road as I pushed the car faster than necessary. The drive through the backwood pack was eerily silent, the dense trees pressing in on both sides like watchful sentinels. The further I went, the stronger the scent of damp earth and pine became, but there was something else beneath it, something rancid and old, like forgotten blood soaked into the roots of the land.Bethany’s mother’s house came into view, a weathered wooden structure that sat like a lonely ghost in the middle of the clearing. The shutters were slightly ajar, swinging with the breeze, and the porch creaked under my weight as I approached. The place wasn’t exactly welcoming, but I wasn’t here for comfort. Before I could knock, the door opened, revealing a young woman with piercing green eyes and dark, unruly curls that cascaded down her shoulders. Bethany’s sister. She looked at me with guarded curiosity, leaning against the doorframe.“W

Varg's POV“What’s with the question, Varg?” Lucian questioned as he walked further into the room and took a seat in his chair, placing the file before him.“Don’t you see the truth? It’s right in front of us,” I said, trying to make him see things from my perspective.Lucian sighed, rubbing a hand over his face tiredly. “Okay, let me get this straight, you think Bethany is Thanos’s insider?”“Yes,” I said through gritted teeth. “All I needed was to confirm that she wasn’t actually checking on her sick mother like she claimed.”Lucian burst out laughing. “Okay, Varg. I think you’re overthinking things right now. Bethany and Thanos? That’s not even possible. And even if it was…” He paused, looking at me as if I had suddenly grown magical wings.I rolled my eyes at his expression. It was obvious he had either figured out the truth or was desperately trying to convince himself that Bethany wasn’t the traitor.“The Blackwood Pack was nearly burned to the ground, yet the fire never reached

Varg's POVMy initial plan was to walk up to the entrance of the mansion and stand before Bethany as she sneaked in, but the moment I stepped out of the room, I realized it wouldn't be a good idea. She thought no one knew what she had been up to, and I was going to let her believe that, for now. I walked down the hallway and approached the door to her room, a brown, furnished door that I never thought I would be grabbing the knob of until today. The door creaked softly as I pushed it open and stepped inside. I scanned the room for a chair and spotted one in the corner next to her closet. Walking over, I grabbed it and pulled it toward the window, where the cool breeze brushed against my skin.I crossed my arms, staring at the door as if it amused me, but that wasn't the case. My mind was filled with too much, and it would only take her pushing that door open for everything to explode.I heard footsteps, then the moment I had been waiting for. The door opened softly, and Bethany walke

Varg's POV I pulled into Jacob’s parking lot and shut off the engine, exhaling a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. The familiar scent of oil, gasoline, and metal filled the air, a signature of Jacob’s place. The sky had darkened, casting long shadows over his yard, where the faint sound of metal clinking against metal echoed.Stepping out of the car, I shut the door behind me and took in the sight before me. Jacob was in his front yard, hunched over his motorcycle, his broad shoulders flexing as he tightened a bolt. His hands, coated in grease, moved with practiced ease, like he was born to fix things. The old bike sat on its stand, partially disassembled, its chrome catching the dim light from the porch. He didn’t notice me at first, too focused on his work. I took a moment to watch him, remembering how Jacob had always found comfort in fixing things, machines, weapons, even people. It was his way of staying grounded. When he finally looked up and saw me, his brows lifted slig

Varg’s POV“How’s your hand, my love?” I asked as I pulled on my nightwear and slipped into bed beside Lyra. She smiled as my hand brushed over the top of her injured arm. “According to the pack doctor, I’m healing. My wolf is active again.” She chuckled softly, shifting forward into my embrace. “I don’t feel as much pain as before.”“That’s good, my love.” I placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, my lips lingering for a moment. “Don’t worry. Soon, everything will be alright.”“I know.” She looked up at me, her red eyes reflecting the dim moonlight seeping through the window. “And I believe that.”Her lips met mine, warm and familiar, carrying the weight of unspoken promises. The kiss was slow, filled with reassurance and something deeper, something only we understood. When we finally pulled apart, she rested her head against my chest, her breath syncing with mine.I pulled her closer, inhaling her scent, a mixture of lavender and something uniquely hers. “I love you, Lyra.”She shifte

Varg’s POV“Daddy, Mommy said we’re leaving,” Moon’s tiny voice chimed as she padded across the living room, her soft curls bouncing with each step.I smiled down at her, reaching out to lift her onto my lap. She curled against my chest, her warmth settling something deep inside me.“Yes, sweetheart,” I murmured, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “We’re going to the Moon Pack, where your mommy came from.”Bethany entered the room, pushing her father’s wheelchair, her expression composed yet tinged with something unspoken. She settled onto the couch across from me, her eyes steady as she met mine.“Varg,” Tommy said with quiet certainty, “I know you’re going to be a great leader. It’s always been in you, and I’m glad you finally get to step into that role.”I exhaled, a slow, relieved breath. “I just hope things turn out right from now on,” I admitted. The weight of responsibility was still settling over me, but with Thanos gone, the darkness that had loomed over us for so long h

Lyra’s POVA deep voice swept into my subconscious, pulling me from the edge of sleep. I turned the other way, but the cold seeped deeper into my body. My arms wrapped tightly around myself, but it did little to stop the shivers racking through me.I knew I should get up and go to the room, but I couldn't, not when I knew Varg wasn’t there. The bed would feel just as cold, just as empty.A familiar warmth surrounded me suddenly, strong arms lifting me effortlessly. Before I could fully wake, my body was cradled against a solid chest, and a familiar scent wrapped around me like a shield against the cold.My eyes snapped open. “Varg?“He didn't offer a word and carried me down the hallway, his grip firm but careful, his expression unreadable. Lyra’s POV"Bethany… Bethany," I called softly, reaching out to touch her shoulder. But she didn’t flinch. She remained still, lost in her thoughts, her numbness beginning to frighten me."It’s okay," I whispered, kneeling beside her. "Please, let’s go inside before you catch a cold."She lifted her head slowly, her eyes filled with unspeakable pain, but she didn’t move."Please listen to me, Bethany," I pleaded. "I don’t want you getting sick, for your sake and for the baby’s."Her gaze flickered at me for a moment before lowering to the ground. She had been sitting in the exact spot where Lucian had fallen, even though his body was no longer there."Lyra, I don’t think I can survive this," she murmured, her voice fragile, her tears sliding down her pale cheeks. Varg's POV The urgency in Jacob’s voice sent a sharp prickle down my spine. Something was definitely wrong, but I couldn’t quite place what it was. Maybe Jacob had figured out who the traitor was and needed me there before delivering punishment.“What’s the problem?” Tommy asked, noticing the worried expression on my face.“Just got a call from Jacob. I need to return to the mansion,” I replied absentmindedly, my voice sounding hollow.“Then you have to go. Don’t worry, you can visit whenever you want. And don’t forget what we discussed.” Tommy gave me an encouraging look, but it barely registered in my mind.I glanced at my phone, staring at the multiple missed calls from Lyra. A strange feeling crept up my spine, but I brushed it off.I stood up. “Thanks for your time, Tommy. I understand if you don’t want Lucian to know where you are. But it would really be nice if he knew.”“I’ll tell him when all this is over,” Bethany said as she walked in, handing Tommy a tea mug. “But for now

Lyra’s POVThanos’s voice slithered through my mind like a snake, his words sharp and taunting."Oh, this is exactly what I wanted."His laughter echoed through my head, sending a shiver down my spine. I had never truly tried using the mind link before, not like this. But now, in this moment, it felt like he was inside my head, his presence pressing against my thoughts like a dark cloud."I’ve got you where I wanted, and now you can’t run away from me."A snarl ripped through my throat, my teeth clashing together in a vicious warning. My wolf burned with rage, ready to lunge, but before I could move, a massive force crashed into me from behind.I barely had time to register the weight before I was slammed into the ground, my breath knocked from my lungs. The world spun, dirt and leaves sticking to my fur as a heavy body pinned me down.A deep growl rumbled above me as I realized it was Harold in his wolf form.I thrashed, my claws digging into the ground as I tried to buck him off, bu

He was toying with us, drawing this out, knowing full well that Lucian was alone and outnumbered.Lucian held his ground, his jaw clenched, but I could sense his unease. He was strong, but against Thanos and five of his wolves? He wouldn't last.I needed to do something. My gaze darted around the living room, searching for my phone. It lay on the couch, its screen reflecting the dim glow of the chandelier above. I rushed over, snatching it up, and quickly dialed Varg’s number. It rang, a breath of relief left me. If Varg could get here in time, we had a chance. But then it went into voicemail.I cursed under my breath and tried again. Lyra’s POVI stood by the entrance of the mansion, my eyes locked on Jacob as he spoke to Harold. There was tension in Jacob’s posture, the kind that signaled he was piecing together a dangerous truth. Harold, however, remained composed, his face a mask of innocence.Jacob’s jaw tightened as he leaned in closer, his words sharp and demanding, but Harold didn’t waver. A cold unease settled in my stomach. Something wasn’t right.I cast one last glance at the confrontation before turning on my heel and stepping into the mansion. My steps were brisk but quiet as I moved through the dimly lit hallway toward the children’s room. I needed to make sure they were inside, away from any potential danger.Reaching their door, I cracked it open and peeked inside.
