Lyra’s POV

"Bethany… Bethany," I called softly, reaching out to touch her shoulder. But she didn’t flinch. She remained still, lost in her thoughts, her numbness beginning to frighten me.

"It’s okay," I whispered, kneeling beside her. "Please, let’s go inside before you catch a cold."

She lifted her head slowly, her eyes filled with unspeakable pain, but she didn’t move.

"Please listen to me, Bethany," I pleaded. "I don’t want you getting sick, for your sake and for the baby’s."

Her gaze flickered at me for a moment before lowering to the ground. She had been sitting in the exact spot where Lucian had fallen, even though his body was no longer there.

"Lyra, I don’t think I can survive this," she murmured, her voice fragile, her tears sliding down her pale cheeks. "Why did Lucian had to leave me now that we were planning of getting married?"

If only I had an answer. If only I could give her the comfort she so desperately needed. But I couldn’t. I didn’t even have it for myself.

  • Her Chosen Mate   1. Accused

Lyra's POVThe moon was blood-red the day a powerful Alpha was murdered—Serene Moon, the leader of the most outstanding pack in the northern part of Norway. She was fierce, strong, and she was my mother.I had just returned from my lonely walk to the garden, secluded in the farthest corner of our marked territory. As I made my way back, I couldn’t ignore the glares my kind shot at me. They hated me for what they believed was forbidden. I was the only one who possessed the trait the prophecy had foretold could bring about the end of our pack—red irises.I brushed off the side of my dark brown, knee-length dress, straightening the folds from leaning so close to the ground to pluck the fine roses my mother loved. We used to pick them together, since I was like an outcast in my pack. I had no friends, no one to talk to except my mother, who had tried many times to shed light on their false beliefs. I had once hoped my mate would be from our pack, but that dream had long since faded. My mo

He walked closer, the sound of his footsteps resonating on the ground, echoing with a chilling familiarity, the same movement I had sensed from the person who killed my mother. My heart raced as his presence filled the space, powerful and commanding. Every step sent a wave of dread through me, but I didn’t dare lift my head. I was too afraid of what I might see.“Lower your weapon,” the voice commanded, cold and unwavering.Frederick hesitated, his grip tightening on the sacred blade. “Who are you to come here and try to stop me?” he growled, his voice strained with frustration. The man took a step closer, his presence commanding, as the rest of the pack members snarled, ready to attack. But he didn’t flinch or show any sign of fear. “I am Lucian, Alpha of the Blackwood Pack.”Frederick’s eyes widened in shock, and I could feel the sudden tension rippling through the pack. Lucian’s name held power, and it was clear they recognized it.Without hesitation, Lucian reached down and graspe

  • Her Chosen Mate   3. Strength Of Four Men

Varg POV “Varg!” the crowd chanted as I stepped into the ring. Two brunettes standing nearby took off my black, sleeveless jacket. I eyed the man across from me, tall, broad, with a round belly and thick, strong arms. I scoffed at his appearance; this wasn’t the opponent I had expected.I wanted a real challenge, someone stronger. Seeing this man as my opponent made me wonder if the manager who set up this fight was mocking me or doubting my winning streak. Despite having won nearly thirty matches since I’d started fighting in this underground arena, they still had the fucking nerve to pick an opponent like this.“You little whelp, I’m going to put you in your place with the rest of those fools who brought you here,” the man growled, giving off the same hostile energy I felt.I didn’t respond. As much as I wanted to put him in his place with a few words, I figured it’d be better to let my actions speak. I cracked my knuckles, my red eyes blazing with a fire I was more than ready to u

  • Her Chosen Mate   4. Night With The Alpha

Lyra POV Lucian stood up and made his way over to me. “Now that you've spent some time in that enclosed room and changed into new clothes, I hope you're ready to take on your duties as I expect,” he said, curling a strand of my hair around his finger in a disturbingly playful way.I felt rooted to the spot, even though my body screamed for me to step away. His warm breath brushed against my cheek, sending a chill down my spine. The closeness wasn't what unnerved me, it was the weight of his demand. What exactly did he want from me?“I should've known that it was you who possessed the power,” he murmured in my ear, the smell of alcohol strong on his breath, creating a queasy feeling in my gut. I took a step back, feeling an unexpected wave of disgust instead of fear, despite him having saved my life.He turned and went back to the table, downing the contents of his glass in one swift motion.“What do you want from me?” The question slipped out before I could stop myself. He chuckled

  • Her Chosen Mate   5. Come Closer

Varg POV Something stirred within me, a feeling I’d never felt before. I looked at the girl, trembling from nearly being struck by my dagger. Her eyes were wide, and I could see the similarities between us, though I wasn’t about to dwell on it. I stepped closer, watching as she pressed herself against the stone wall, almost as if she wished she could melt into it.People always had that reaction to me. I was used to it. I moved nearer, sensing her discomfort and unease. Now standing directly in front of her, I could hear her heart pounding frantically. That was exactly how close I needed to be to pull the dagger from the wall beside her head. She shut her eyes, trying to calm her breathing, though it was clearly not working.I smirked. I liked the effect I had on her. Maybe next time she’d think twice before barging in where she didn’t belong. Dropping the dagger onto the round oak table, I grabbed a towel from nearby and draped it over my shoulder.“You’re my mate,” she stammered, h

Lyra POV I ran as fast as my legs would carry me, my breaths coming in short, panicked gasps. My heart thundered wildly in my chest, and the metallic scent of blood clung to me, a suffocating reminder of what I had just done. The image of the white wolf, shattered and broken, flashed before my eyes, her pleas for mercy echoing in my mind. The sound of her voice, desperate and fearful, clawed at me, cutting deeper than any wound.I had no choice. Lucian's words haunted me, the sting of his hand across my face and his cold threat replaying in my memory. He had warned me that disobedience would mean being dragged back to my pack, only to be slaughtered in front of them as a warning. Fear had taken hold, wrapping its icy fingers around my throat and leaving me with no other option. What I once thought was redemption had twisted into a nightmare I could never have imagined. He had saved my life, and now I was bound to his will, a slave to his commands. The scene replayed in vivid detail,

Varg's POV The urgency in Jacob’s voice sent a sharp prickle down my spine. Something was definitely wrong, but I couldn’t quite place what it was. Maybe Jacob had figured out who the traitor was and needed me there before delivering punishment.“What’s the problem?” Tommy asked, noticing the worried expression on my face.“Just got a call from Jacob. I need to return to the mansion,” I replied absentmindedly, my voice sounding hollow.“Then you have to go. Don’t worry, you can visit whenever you want. And don’t forget what we discussed.” Tommy gave me an encouraging look, but it barely registered in my mind.I glanced at my phone, staring at the multiple missed calls from Lyra. A strange feeling crept up my spine, but I brushed it off.I stood up. “Thanks for your time, Tommy. I understand if you don’t want Lucian to know where you are. But it would really be nice if he knew.”“I’ll tell him when all this is over,” Bethany said as she walked in, handing Tommy a tea mug. “But for now

Lyra’s POVThanos’s voice slithered through my mind like a snake, his words sharp and taunting."Oh, this is exactly what I wanted."His laughter echoed through my head, sending a shiver down my spine. I had never truly tried using the mind link before, not like this. But now, in this moment, it felt like he was inside my head, his presence pressing against my thoughts like a dark cloud."I’ve got you where I wanted, and now you can’t run away from me."A snarl ripped through my throat, my teeth clashing together in a vicious warning. My wolf burned with rage, ready to lunge, but before I could move, a massive force crashed into me from behind.I barely had time to register the weight before I was slammed into the ground, my breath knocked from my lungs. The world spun, dirt and leaves sticking to my fur as a heavy body pinned me down.A deep growl rumbled above me as I realized it was Harold in his wolf form.I thrashed, my claws digging into the ground as I tried to buck him off, bu

Lyra’s POVBile rose in my throat as I stood frozen at the sight before me. Thanos stood tall, his presence menacing, flanked by five wolves with eyes that glowed in the dim moonlight. He was toying with us, drawing this out, knowing full well that Lucian was alone and outnumbered.Lucian held his ground, his jaw clenched, but I could sense his unease. He was strong, but against Thanos and five of his wolves? He wouldn't last.I needed to do something. My gaze darted around the living room, searching for my phone. It lay on the couch, its screen reflecting the dim glow of the chandelier above. I rushed over, snatching it up, and quickly dialed Varg’s number. It rang, a breath of relief left me. If Varg could get here in time, we had a chance. But then it went into voicemail.I cursed under my breath and tried again. Once, twice, three times, nothing. My fingers tightened around the phone before I hurled it onto the couch in frustration. My mind spun, searching for another plan, anothe

  • Her Chosen Mate   95. THANOS

Lyra’s POVI stood by the entrance of the mansion, my eyes locked on Jacob as he spoke to Harold. There was tension in Jacob’s posture, the kind that signaled he was piecing together a dangerous truth. Harold, however, remained composed, his face a mask of innocence.Jacob’s jaw tightened as he leaned in closer, his words sharp and demanding, but Harold didn’t waver. A cold unease settled in my stomach. Something wasn’t right.I cast one last glance at the confrontation before turning on my heel and stepping into the mansion. My steps were brisk but quiet as I moved through the dimly lit hallway toward the children’s room. I needed to make sure they were inside, away from any potential danger.Reaching their door, I cracked it open and peeked inside. Moon was curled up beneath her blanket, her small hand resting near her face. Tristan and Justine lay still on their beds, their chests rising and falling in slow, steady breaths. The sight of them safe and asleep sent a wave of relief th

Tristan and Justine sat a little distance away, their notepads propped on their knees as they scribbled down whatever held their interest.I ran my fingers gently through Moon’s silky hair, tucking a loose strand behind her ear. “Baby, your dad has been busy for quite some time now," I said, keeping my voice calm despite the ache in my chest.Moon shifted slightly, turning her big, curious eyes up at me. “Is it about that bad man that came over that day?" she asked innocently. "I heard Daddy talking to Aunt Bethany about someone helping him."I chuckled softly, masking my worry with a reassuring smile. “Oh, sweetheart. It’s not just about that man. She cast a hesitant look at Lucian before finally stepping forward, her pace cautious.Sliding into the driver’s seat, I turned on the engine, the low hum filling the air. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Bethany hesitating before opening the passenger door. She slipped inside, her face lined with unease, her hands nervously twisting in her lap.“If there’s anything you want me to know, don’t keep it from me,” I said, casting her a knowing look before resting my arm against the steering wheel. She turned to me, and though I kept my eyes on the road ahead, I could feel the tension rolling off her in waves. “I don’t know if my father is ready to see you,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “He ma
