63: Never Trust a Woman

Lorenzo released his grip on my hand when we were outside and I regained my balance. He stared at me, lomh and hard that I had to move from foot to foot.

I was the first to speak up as I asked nervously, "H-how are you?"

His looked at me, his face devoid of emotions. "You're in no position to know that, Avelina."

"I'm your wife–"

"Ex." He immediately cut me off. "Ex wife. You no longer have access to that title. We're over. Done. Maggie is Dead. The whole reason we got married was because of her, right? Then the deal is off."

"I can't recall ever signing divorce papers." I said. This was the most conversation we've had in a month.

"It would be sent to you in a few days. With the pay for your time spent."

I took my long scarf off and his eyes fell to my belly. I was a little over two months, but the bump was noticeable. He stared at my stomach for a long time, his lips twitching and his hands shaking.
