Seraphine had no idea how she finally managed to bring her emotions under control and walk over to Kayden’s room. Getting on the bed, she covered herself with the blanket hoping she would be graced with sleep.
All that thinking and agony caused her to feel exhausted, and there was nothing more she wanted at this moment other than shutting herself down. Maybe she would be feeling better the next day.
But sleep didn’t come to her or let her heavy mind rest. Someone came once, asking her about dinner, but she declined, knowing ‘Seraphine’ was going to be there.
More than her, it was Kayden whom she didn’t want to face. Confronted with him will cause her to break down. She needed to calm down significantly before encountering the man.
She didn’t know how long had passed before she heard footsteps in the room, most likely belonging to Kayden.
This did leave him to wonder many things. Growing up, there must have been instances she was disappointed with but pretended to show she was content. He did want to figure them out, but rushing would only makes matters worse. If those four years had been blank for her, she was merely a child yet she had to adjust to Blair’s conditions. This would have been tough for her. She had no one to rely on and lonely. In midst of that, she had to take responsibilities and deal with other problems that came along. She went to such lifestyle in a matter of a moment. No way would she be fine with it.“I feel so insecure,” Seraphine confessed.Right, why didn’t Kayden notice them earlier? He was too cooped up in his thoughts to notice her feelings. His actions might have pushed her off to this point as well. He wasn’t exactly considerate to her.She had demoted by huge extent, and even him, whom she could freely call whatever
Cool breeze greeted Yoori once she stepped outside. A smile formed on her face as she raised her head and noticed the snow raining down. The scene was one she could never get tired of.It brought her a sense of serenity.“Are you done?”Hearing that sound caused her to turn her head, and her eyes met with those of Daniel Chizer’s. It was such a coincidence how the two of them were off work at the same time.Daniel’s duty consisted mostly of patrolling. Recently murders had been running rampant in the North, causing the security to be tightened. Since she had access to some top insider information, she knew this was related to the drug case she dealt with Hamilton. The matter was larger than she had originally anticipated. It involved her brother, Clayton Vougeious, and Kayden was in charge of the case. The entire North was in uproar due to this situation, and maybe because of this, Kayden was at North. Indeed, hearing
The poor gardener was most likely scarred during this incident. Even if the female lead cried and begged, she did not struggle very much in the male lead’s hold and gave into the passion. She knew that her heart would bleed after reading this, and a urge to commit murder would come upon her as she was enveloped by frustration. However, as if she enjoyed to make herself suffer, she was compelled to the novel.A groan escaped from her lips while she pushed the chair back and stood up, closing the novel shut with a slam, and if possible, she would have breathed out fire. That did sound funny to her for a second.“This is trash, wow! A top quality one at that! I mean, would it have killed the author to have the female lead have some self-respect? What the heck? Does she see herself as doormat? Is she actually a doormat who reincarnated to a human or the meaning of masochism? No, this is an insult to masochists. Fuck! I shouldn’t have started
Only after those words her lips did Seraphine realize she was being out loud about her feelings, and this caused her eyes do widen.“What I mean is,” Seraphine stated, “I was just thinking about something. That’s all.”A frown appeared on Kayden’s face, but he did not push the matter further and voiced out, “Your uniform had arrived.”This caused Seraphine to raise an eyebrow and point out, “But my fittings weren’t taken.”“The measurements for your previous uniform was there,” Kayden responded. This caused Seraphine to burst out into laughter and comment, “Just how deeply did you look into my matters. You even know my clothing measurements.”“Matters being unknown to me— I hate it, no matter how trivial it, especially when it comes to you,” Kayden confessed. The air suddenly turned awkward for Yoori although the sprouting feeli
Seraphine stretched her arms as she sat up on the couch. Yesterday, in midst of talking to Kayden, she hardly realized when she had fallen asleep. It was most likely as she was reiterating a strange experience of her to the man.As always, he only listened and made few comments here and there.Today was her first day at work, and Seraphine was excited yet nervous to get started on this. She wondered what her work would consist of.As always, Kayden had woken up before her, and Seraphine found a set of clothing folded beside the couch. Seraphine could guess this was her set of uniform. The uniform for the high-ranking officials were better looking, and upon touching the material, she could assess that it was expensive as well. After all, it felt comfortable to the touch.Hurriedly, she washed up and got dressed. Having a good night’s sleep, she felt full of energy, and of course, there was her enthusiasm that affected her on top of that.
“Be honest with me with me. You didn’t get me to work under a harsh superior on purpose just so that I quit, right? You don’t seem the manipulative and scheming type, but you never know. My judgement on people is quite flawed,” Seraphine honestly vocalized.Kayden only smirked at the girl prior to asking, “What do you think?”“It doesn’t matter because I am not quitting. This is intriguing in a way,” Seraphine stated, “Although I am pissed off at Sir Wilings to the point I want to beat him up black and blue, this case got me way too curious.I don’t think I will be able to be at peace without seeing the end to it, and of course want to personally experience the entire incident. And I enjoy variety.Back at my previous job, I didn’t get scolded much because I was the best, and matters were lenient there. That’s why, I don’t hate the setting as much.”Kayden sho
“Three days! It had been three long days since I have assigned you to this task! Three long days! And you couldn’t get the reason behind the death of Count’s cousin until now!Damn it! Why are you even here!? To show that handsome of yours around! You should just go and quit! There is no use of here other than being an expense. Incompetent bastard! I don’t know why I have you under me!”Never had Seraphine been put down this way. Although she was lacking in multiple aspects, in a way, she made up for it by showing how excelled in other areas. Even when she was Blair, she was only praised. No matter how she was insulted, her skills were never questioned, and even a teacher at school didn’t raise their voice at Seraphine. But now, for the first time, she was being called incompetent.Even though it wasn’t the first time and knew this was simply part of Jacob Wilings personality, hearing these still hit her self-conf
What was further disturbing was how so many people bought it regardless of the side-effects. There was something iffy about it.Curfews had been set up at the North, and every purchase, no matter how small it was, was kept record of. Every street had guards patrolling. That’s when something hit Seraphine. What if the ones distributing the drugs wasn’t looking forward to making a profit? That did open up a lot of possibilities.Seraphine truly did not understand what would be achieved from intoxicating the commoners. This surely was a part of a bigger scheme, one Seraphine was clueless to. Framing Clayton was most likely not the objective; he was simply a convenient. Because everyone has their attention on Clayton, they are able to sneak through meticulously.Water source was the first thing that came in her mind. It was easy to get the commoners drugged by mixing up Xylait with water sources. Water did little to not
