Deep in her sleep, I’ve been busy ogling Rory. The lampshade’s light became unnecessary; the crimson and amber luster of the dancing flame was enough to make her skin glow.

She was in a sleepless dream. Her heart was calmly beating, and surprisingly, it thumped the same way mine does.

Hearing my heart pulsing is a tune I never thought I’d listen to again. It makes me feel a little less evil, just a tiny bit, and more human.

Rory was a cuddler. I’ve learned this from my onetime sleepover at her place, and tonight was no different. She’d let out a moan of protest every time I’d stand up to feed wood into the fire, hogging me like I was some kind of blanket when I’d return to her side.
