~Elijah~
Rory is smart; she’ll know that I am hiding something the moment lies tumble out of my mouth. Despite this, she also demonstrates how brave she is, but fear still shows on her face. Her cheeks were cold against my warm palms. Golden honeyed eyes brimmed with tears, pouty lip quivering as she stared at me.
“What’s happening to me?”
I’ve witnessed a handful of people go through this change. Some feared it, cowered away, and overreacted to the idea of the unknown.
I’ve thought about this moment for some time, a way to save Rory from the inevitable revelation of who she truly is, of who I truly am.
“You are not turning into a monster, Cara mia,” I murmured, gripping her hip
~Rory~Since his revelation, I stayed tight-lipped, keeping my thoughts to myself. He could feel my fear, uncertainty, and reluctance, but as he said, he didn’t crowd me, gave me the space I needed.Since then, I have been on autopilot, took a shower, got dressed, and ate the breakfast he made. I acted as if everything was fine when I was honestly not.I never pegged Elijah for someone ordinary. He turned my world upside down since I bumped into him in that cafe, but this is just beyond what I anticipated.First, he indirectly told me he’s more or less two thousand years old. I mean, how can I wrap my mind around that fact and add it into the mix that I am his soulmate! And since he’s a child of Lycan royalty and vampire royalty, it means I am turning i
~Rory~“Who was that guy?” was Paul’s greeting as I stepped inside the station.“Uhm, none of your business?” I strolled past him, checking in, but he followed me like a pesky fly. I’m not in the mood for his impromptu cross-examination. Internally, I regret not taking Elijah’s earlier advice on calling in sick.“That’s Valentin, isn’t it?” he pressed, walking into my office.“Not that it’s any of your concern,” I removed my coat and hung it on the back of my chair, “but yes.”He growled, cursing under his breath. “Are you two together now?”Not really knowing ho
~Rory~As soon as I arrived home, I stripped out of my clothing and steered for the shower, hoping the warm drizzle of water could ease the tension in my body. Luckily, it did. The throbbing in my head lessened a bit.I followed my usual routine of foraging through my kitchen when I was done, glad to find the food Nolani had for me in the fridge.I preheated the chicken parmesan, and while drinking a glass of Pinot Noir, a thought came to me. Elijah said I should call him if I needed anything. Can I consider this discovery a good enough reason to hear his voice? In the office, I had my work to distract me. Here is my place; I had nothing but this wine and time to think about him. Those steely gray eyes that had the power to weaken me with just one glance; his lips, sweet
~Rory~Love. Is it even possible to love someone I barely knew? But it all makes sense, the fluttering in my belly every time he’s near me. The tight grip on my lungs when he smiles, that ticklish feeling as if his presence shoots gentle zaps of electric shock on my entire body. Even when I saw him with Nolani and he told me he didn’t want me, that pain, the unbearable torment like he was tearing my world apart, everything was falling into place. As well as the intense and wild night we had, it was passionate; it seared right through my soul. Being with him was all kinds of extreme because I’ve given him more than I should.I’ve given him my heart without knowing I did.Tongue-tied, this realization hit me like raging boulders from the mountain. J
~Rory~ Jace stayed with me through the night, not in my bed, but surprisingly, he volunteered to sleep on the couch. Not that he was anything but respectful to me, but I was expecting him to put up a fight on where he should sleep. He moved the couch from my living room to my room and talked to me until I fell asleep. He informed me about Elijah’s kind request from him and Nolani to keep an eye on me every night. Because apparently, I have the ability to sleep and wake up at another place. I didn’t believe Jace when he told me that, but I remember my second night here in Salvatore Hills. The one where I dreamt of Jace and Elijah for the first time. It explains why I woke up wearing a man’s dress shirt and the scratches on my body the next day. I also remember Elijah refusing to let me go in my sleep last Saturday
~Rory~Paul and I decided to pay Lloyd Zwick a visit in the afternoon. He wanted to do it the next day, but I was eager not to waste more time. If he was Maestro, then I need to know. How? I have no clue. This would be a lot easier if I were with Nolani or Jace. They could quickly tell if someone is a supernatural being with their heightened sense of smell and sight.Since it was still working hours, our first stop was his workplace. Unlucky for us, though, our person of interest called in sick.“He’s as healthy as a horse,” Prof. Dover, one of Zwick’s colleagues, said when we inquired about the nature of Zwick’s ill health. “Now that you asked me,” the elderly five foot four professor scratched his gray beard, thinking deeply be
~Rory~“What was that all about?” Paul asked as soon as Bobby turned the corner.Eyes still fixed on where Bobby disappeared, I said, “fishing for information.”Paul faced me, tilting his head to the side, scrutinizing me. “Fishing? It sounds to me like you know something I don’t.”I rolled my eyes for dramatic effect, hoping it was enough to conceal what I truly knew about Bobby and the said coach. “He winced when he crossed his arms, and he was sweating in beads of moisture when the weather was damn cold. Unless he was like me who suffered from eating something that upset his tummy, I say something was going on in this school that we have to find out.”My partner hummed,
~Elijah~There was something wrong with Rory. Her anxiety intensifies with each passing hour as this distance she sets between us grows.Still, I remained as far away as possible from her. I’ve been on the hunt with Henry since we parted ways on Monday morning. Since then, I haven’t heard a word from her. She’s doing fine. Jace and Nolani will take turns keeping eyes on her to make sure she’s safe, but that doesn’t lessen the concern I have for her well-being.We’re on our second trip, circling the outskirts of Washington state, looking for clues about this ‘maestro’ those vampires were referring to. We have a few spies, a handful of people we trust, who also know who we truly are. However, light on who this Maestro is has
