Please, guys. Listen to 'let me down slowly' by Alec Benjamin as you read this chapter. Who does the song fit? Adam or Evelyn?

Luke pulled on my cheek, stroking it like a baby, and I tilted to the side to get off his touch.

"I did not know I would find you here today! And we're both wearing black!" He pointed out. "My mind told me earlier that if I meet you here, you'll be in a black dress and heels. I guess I wasn't wrong, after all! Anyway, you look so chic... Um." He paused for a while, looking at Adam, then at me. "Is this your son?"

"He's my nephew!" A wide, fake smile followed my reply. Looking at Adam, he firmly folded his lips, painfully. I could see anger burning through his eyes, but he held it in. Adam was man enough not to react. Somewhere in me prayed he wouldn't.

"Aw! What a cute boy?" Luke tickled with his clean shaved beard that was grown enough to feel. He pinched on it gently, fingerings his beard and crackling in laughter like a fool that he was. Some other c

I was typing a document when three soft knocks came on the door. “Yes, come in.” I replied, and the door opened. It was Oaklyn. She had a navvy blue, A-line shirt and a white elbow-sleeved shirt on with her hair packed in a low ponytail. She walked up to me, placing a load of file on my desk. “Go through this, ma. And I also want to remind you about the meeting at 11:00 a.m.” “Ugh!” I stopped typing, raising my head up a bit. A pain stuck through me, hearing her last words. “What is it, ma’am? Is everything alright?” She pulled closer to me in concern, and I paused a hand up to stop her. She might end up hugging me if I don’t. I dropped my hand from my forehead and rolled my eyes at her, disgustingly. “I’m fine, okay?” my lips quirked to the side as I ordered. “I won’t be able to attend that meeting. Tell Mr. Desmond to attend to the customers and... I don’t want any guests as well. Cancel my appointments for today and tomorrow.” “Okay, ma.” With folded lips, bowed in response

She was so excited about winning the car race that, she stopped in front of my apartment and came down to welcome me. “I won!” she screeched, raising both hands in the air in excitement. “Yeah, yeah! How did you do that?” I pointed, faking a surprise. “Are you taking driving classes again?” “No, it’s just an improvement.” She joked, and I blushed at her words. “Well, I’m impressed. Let’s go in.” I told her as we drove into my compound, stopping the cars in front of my house instead of the parking lot. Excited, we got in and I walked towards one of the inbuilt fridge, getting a bottle of fruit juice for her. I closed the fridge and a thought of Adam closing it behind me came up. Shaking off the pestering thoughts from my mind, I closed my eyes to a sudden headache that hit me hard. “Evelyn!” Somidah called, throwing her handbag on the middle table. Wasn't Twenty supposed to be a magical birthday and a milestone into adulthood, accompanied by great privileges and legal implications? Wasn't Twenty the age to vote, buy a house, wed your high school sweetheart, go to jail, get sued, and gamble away your tuition in Vegas? Well, mine wasn't.At eight o'clock in the evening of my 20th birthday, I was alone at home grumbling and frowning, taking weird selfies, scrolling through the boring messages on my phone and pitying myself for my misfortune. I thought it was going to be a special day filled with presents, prayers, fun, and well wishes, but all I received was a "Happy Birthday" from Daniel Beckett, my CEO husband and some of my friends.Suddenly, the electricity cut off. My sad eyes widened in the darkness and my heart raced for a moment. Dan isn't yet back from the office. He's always busy with work, but I love him endlessly. I know how caring he is, at least, he tried. Right now, I can't wait for him to come back. There was comple

The lady had an orange-brown, knee-length silky skirt on and a cream-coloured, well tailored, buttoned-down satin shirt. Her outfit was not too baggy, not too tight. "She's here! She's here!" He clamored over the phone. "I'm sure she will be upstairs in a minute. I'll join you right away." Tony ended the call with excitement. The lady wined the tinted glass of her shiny black Lamborghini and climbed down. Everything looked like they made it to fit me. The CEO of Beckett Holdings. Shocked at the bones, I gasped at what stood before me. The gates to the company were wide open. "Wait, what's happening?" I wondered and staggered closely on my heels. Stepping into the building, I realized the electronics were all on and the place was literally a graveyard. Only the sound of my heels echoed in the silence as I approached my office. "Come on guys, what is the meaning of this?" An elderly man in his late fifties busted out. "To think that I was unemployed more than half of my life until the Beckett housing company came to my rescue. How do I go back home to tell my wife and my two college kids that I got sacked?""This is terrible!" Clare, another worker, exclaimed. "It looks like our enthusiasm has gotten us into trouble.""This is still a puzzle to me." Another guy hissed. "And I wasn't to support this idea from the start. You all got me into trouble." Neither did I want any of this! Another lady kissed at Oaklyn. You told us it would be a cool idea. It's a disaster! "Calm down, guys." Oaklyn, who had kept mute since she joined them, cut in. The boys had simple t-shirts, singles, and shorts on. Blue timidly sat on the couch. Roman, who had an eye for her, sat right next to her. They were all tattooed except for him. They sat at the dining table. “Yes.” she replied, facing her direction. “I’ll come back to you.”she raised a dark gaze at Jane. “Jane, Don’t you ever!” she pointed. “In your mother-fucking, stupid, miserable life, try that rubbish that you did this afternoon with me again.”Jane’s Grey eyes wandered confusedly. The sides of her slim mouth pulled down in innocence. “What’s your problem? Must you always talk?! Just because we’ve been friends for over six years doesn’t mean you should talk about me to people I don’t even know at all! You said I don’t have a boyfriend doesn’t mean nobody admires me because you’ve never seen me with a man! Do you

I don’t want to lose my boyfriend!” Hazel mimicked with raised shoulders, showing how proud Alice used to be. “Haven’t you lost your boyfriend now?”“Lose him? I would not lose him in Jesus’ name! As I turned back to him, his long hair, well styled in a bun, filled my nostrils with its scents and my body, untouched for so long, throbbed and tingled. Yet, I still struggled to escape from the exquisite torment of his visiting lips that first fluctuated around my cheekbones. His tangling fingers that settled at the small of my back made me hold unto him. The of the chilly, opened fridge kissed my back while he leaned closer to me. His hand snaked front of the side of my arm to close the fridge's door. And as he leaned closer, I placed my back in the fridge with my gaze fixed on his. A little lower than mine. I am just a little sceptical because I know you like nothing that is unfit and breeds disrespect.”“I can’t even say how I ended up in this situation. This boy ticks the right boxes. My mind is always on him whenever he’s not around, and I’m unsettled in his presence. All he wants is to spend time with me. It might be too early to conclude, but he takes me as a priority.
