The air condition had the office chill, and yet there was nothing but intense fumes between these two childhood friends.
“When did you stop playing fair?” Liam inquired with bitterness in his voice.
“What are you talking about?” Dax asked while blankly looking at his friend.
A smirk made its way to Liam's lips as he intensely stared at Dax before resting back in his chair. Then within a split second, a frown crossed his face while his eyes burned with fury.
“There was a foul play last night, and the events that took place aren't settling right with me.” Liam calmly said, yet his voice was cold.
“What does that have to do with me?” Dax asked with a bit of aggression in his tone.
As anger stirred within him, Liam swallowed down his frustration and kept his expression calm even though he had his fingers folded in a tight fist.
“Halton hosted a party. Ali just happened to be there, so does Carmen and me. Then I get drugged and somehow end
Hey readers, happy reading, and I hope to hear your thoughts in the review section. Best Regards, Author.
The just-risen sun shone softly on the city streets as Carmen stared out of the car window with a frown on her lips.“Do you want me to get securities to remove them?” Dax gently asked when he noticed the frustration on her face.“No. This is exactly what our parents wanted when they released the information about our marriage to the news media a week ago. And I can continuously try to avoid those reporters, but that doesn't change the fact that we are getting married two weeks from now.” Carmen said. Even though she tried to keep her voice normal as possible, Dax could still hear the anger, sadness, and disappointment in her words.“Is this what you want?” He asked while staring straight into her eyes. There was confusion in Carmen's gaze for a second. Then she broke eye contact with him and mumbled, “What are you talking about?”“Is marrying me what you want, Carm?” Dax firmly asked.
All of Carmen's anxieties came tumbling back as she looked at Dax with fear in her eyes, and even though his face bore no expression, he felt his spirit sink while staring back at her.The smile on Doctor Ben's lips slowly faded when he realized that he was the only one in the room excited about the news. Then he slightly coughed to clear his throat and said, “Also, the reason you fainted was because of a poor diet and stress.”“Can you excuse us?” Dax asked without staring at Ben.“Yeah… Sure.”“Oh! And this news shouldn't leave this room, or else this hospital may end up with a lawsuit. Am I clear?”“Crystal.”Filled with fear, Dr. Ben hastily left the room, leaving Dax and Carmen in an awkward atmosphere.“I want a DNA test,” Carmen mumbled as she stared away from Dax.With both of them in an emotional state, it got awfully quiet for a while. Then Dax rested back in his chair and covered his face with his hands before sighing
In the midst of the calmness inside the living room, there was distress in Mr. and Mrs. Smith's faces as they waited patiently for Hunter to call.“What's going on here? Did something bad happen?” Mr. Wilson asked when he walked into the living room and saw his daughter's worried expression and his son-in-law's deadly gaze.“That's what we are trying to find out.” Mrs. Smith replied as she looked at her father's concerned face.“Then why do you guys look so stressed?”“Because it's about Carmen.”“Kiddo? What could she have possibly done to have you both trouble? Is this about her fainting? Did you call her to find out if she is okay?”“I did, Dad. She is fine. At least that's what Dax told me.”“If Kiddo is well, then shouldn't you guys be happy?”Since Mrs. Smith didn't know how to respond to her father's question, she stared away from him and
The sunlight that shone through the office window faded slowly as Liam sat behind his desk with his eyes focused on his phone screen as he stared at the last message he sent to Carmen."She read it, so why hasn't she replied yet," Liam frustratingly whispered. After another three minutes of staring at his phone, he leaned back in his seat and gazed at the ceiling before letting out a deep sigh."I thought giving her space will help her realize that we belong together. But now, I think that she is drifting even further away from me. She can't be serious about us being over, right?" Liam mumbled as stressful thoughts crowded his mind.Suddenly his heart clenched with dread, and he felt a flutter of panic when reality hit him in the head and knocked some sense into him."Damn it. I am losing her. I can't lose her!" Liam muttered as he grabbed his car key and phone. Then he rushed out of his office and kept running until he reached the parking l
The night air grew harsher as Liam slowly got up from the ground and stood to his feet while suppressing his body from shivering from the cold.“Carmen is pregnant and it's mine?” Liam asked with his gaze fixed on Roman’s murderous eyes.“Hunter, level him to where he belongs!” Roman emotionlessly said. With soulless eyes and tight fist, Hunter rushed over to Liam and viciously threw a punch which hit between Liam’s waist and rib cage, causing him to fall to his knees while coughing out blood. His hands then tightly wrapped around his stomach as he swallowed the pain and restrained his lips from letting out a moan.“That’s better.” Roman mockingly said.As anger welled up in his chest, Liam caged it and lifted his head to gaze at Roman. Then he slowly fought back his pain and stood to his feet.“I know that I messed up with Carmen, and I am deeply sorry for my actions. But I am ready to be the man your daughter deserves if you will just give
The hotel lobby was busy and noisy, yet Carmen could barely hear a thing as she struggled with her emotions. It took her a while for her to steady her breath as she strove to calm the panic she felt. Then she hastily wiped her face and softly said, “I don’t know if the child is for Liam or Dax, that’s why we are here to get a DNA test done. So please dad! Please, stop whatever you are doing. I am begging you.”His rage only seemed to intensify when Roman heard the fear in his daughter’s voice. But in the midst of anger, he also felt hurt, realizing that Liam was right about his actions hurting his daughter instead of protecting her. However, when Roman gazed back at Liam, his sadness was quickly devoured by his rage which left him in a stormy mood.“I warn you, Carm. I told you that if you don’t handle it, I will. You should have listened to me, instead, you have forced my hands.” Roman coldly said.A
The first place Dax went when he arrived in the country was Carmen’s villa since he had spent the entire night tossing in bed and wondering if he might have overreacted during their conversation. As he stood patiently at the door, it took a moment of hesitation for him to finally knock. But Dax got no response, so he repeatedly knocked and after banging several times on the door, he stopped and deeply inhaled to quench his anger. Then Dax took out his phone, dial Carmen's number, and listened to it ring while he paced back and forth, striving not to let anger cloud his judgment.“The number you have called has not answer, please try again.” Dax quivered with frustration as those words repeated in his ear countless times as he continuously c
