Sylvia's P. O. V I stared at Patrick, my mouth hanging open. " What?" I muttered. He sighed and continued, his gaze unflickered. " Yes... Let's break up." He repeated, his voice stronger. I stuttered, my heart racing. " Why?... Did I do something wrong?" " Nothing, it's just not the right time for this. " " What do you mean? " I asked and he held my hands, caressing it softly. " Listen to me carefully Sylvia. We're too young to be worrying ourselves about things like this. Your mom's sick and she needs all the help she can get. Alex is the one who can offer that help. You have to let him. " " But, Patrick... " I began but he cut me off. " It's okay, I know what you're thinking. But I can't watch you suffer. I hate seeing you this way... This miserable. " " Patrick, I doesn't have to be this way. " I said, my voice quivering. His grip on my hands tightened and I could see the tears in his eyes but he still smiled. " Yes it does. You won't l
Sylvia's P. O. V I woke up with a start cleaning the next day, checking my clock for the time, I sprang out of bed and rushed towards the bathroom, hurrying through my morning routine. Today I'll be getting update on my mom and I can't wait. Heading downstairs, I made myself a quick breakfast and walked out of the house, boarding a cab to the hospital. I arrived there soon after and walked straight to my mom's ward where I met a doctor checking on her. Staying outside, I watched them through the window. Eventually the doctor was through with her and he came out, spotting me. " Good morning doc..." I greeted, feeling nervous. " Good morning Miss Torres. I see you're here early. " He said and I nodded, still glancing at my mom. " How is she? " I asked quietly and watched as he took in a deep breath. " Well...." He began and I held my breath. One more bad news and I'll... " She's on the mend." He finished and I breathed out, feeling absolutely relieved. "
(One week later) Sylvia's P. O. V My mom kept getting better. The new bone marrow that was donated kept producing healthy cells that pushed the leukemic ones out and she kept getting stronger. I checked up on her occasionally while I continued school, trying to catch up with the things I lost while she was sick. Fortunately for me, the break up between me and Patrick smoothed out. Now we are more friends than strangers. Even though I'm sad we had to end things, I'm glad things didn't get so bad between us. It was lunch time so I was sitted at the school's cafeteria, quietly having mine when I heard footsteps approaching. I looked up and saw that it was Alex. I swallowed and managed a small smile " Hey..." He called out, " mind if I join you?" He asked and I shook my head. Nodding thanks, he sat in front of me and we ate in silence. Eventually he broke it. " So.... How's your mom?" He asked. I took a bottle of water and drank some of it's content. Closi
(A few days later: Saturday; evening) Tying up the balloons in the living room, I tried to finish the decorations as quickly as I could. My mom would be arriving home in a few moments and we were preparing a surprise party for her. Helping me out was Patrick, who was outside hanging a banner at the doorstep. I heard him descend from the stool he was using and soon enough, he was peeking through the door. " I'm through..." He announced and I smiled. Standing back, I stared at the decorations. " I think I'm done as well," I said and he grinned. Looking at the cookies on the center table, his eyes widened. " Hmm... This looks delicious. Mind if I try some?" " Only one cookie. " I warned and he laughed. " I'm sure I won't be stopping at one. " He muttered before gobbling up some. " Hey! Stop that! You'll finish the cookies before the rest of the guests arrive! " I yelled at him, pushing him away. He ran away, holding a few more and stuffing his mouth wit
Patrick's P. O. V " Skyler? Wha- what are you doing here?" I asked, surprised. She looked around a bit, grimacing. " Isn't it obvious? I came to see you." She answered and I took a deep breath, rubbing the back of my neck. " Wow..." I breathed out. " I didn't expect to see you." " I didn't expect to be here myself. I just sort of found myself here." " So... Why'd you come? " " I-i wanted to apologise. For what I did at the camp. I realized I didn't do that earlier before I left. I'm really sorry for what I did. " Stopping, she took a deep breath, shuddering. " For making things bad between you and Sylvia. It's haunted me ever since and I'm really sorry. I hope you can forgive me. " I stared at her, still confused of what to say. Skyler came all the way from New Jersey, to apologise? No, I don't want to believe it. " Why did you do it?" I found myself asking. She breathed out, brushing her hair off her face. " I... I don't know. I guess I was j
(A few days later: a school day) Sylvia's P. O. V It was a schools day and I was at the garden, sitted with Patrick while I peered into my books, in an attempt to study. I smiled as I remembered the past few days on our visit to the doctor. We were told our mom's cancer was already in remission and subsequently she'll be cured from it. Nothing could have made me more glad. Right now, all my focus is on me passing my final exams and prepare for college and so is everyone in my class. I glanced at Patrick and saw he was busy with his phone, oblivious to everything that was going on around him. Clearing my throat, I began talking. " So... After we graduate, what school will you be going to?" I asked he glanced at me, a side of his lip curling up. " New York University. Definitely." He replied without batting his eyelids. " New York? Why?" I asked, gasping. He grinned. " I've always wanted to go there. It's where me and my friends at my former school ha
Alex's P. O. V. " But that's all the way in Britain!" I shot back, surprised. My mom, obviously expecting my outburst. " I know honey... We, just want the best for you. " She replied, her voice gentle. I heaved a sigh, rubbing my palms together. This isn't sitting well with me. " We thought about it a lot you know? Plus, you've always wanted to move really far away from home after highschool. " " Yes I did, but... " I trailed off, not knowing what to say. " Is everything okay? " My step dad asked. " If you don't want to move so far away, you can always choose another college that's nearby. " He said and I shook my head. " I'll go... I just didn't think I'll be moving so far away. " I replied and I heard them sigh. " I'm really sorry... We should've told you earlier." My mom said apologetically. I nodded, rubbing my neck. " How soon am I leaving?" I asked. If I'll be going overseas, there's a high chance I'll be resuming early. " Imm
(After exams) Sylvia's P. O. V. Walking with my mom in the boutique while we picked out the dress I would wear to prom while engaging in light conversations. The exams have come and gone, everyone is now focused on the prom night that's this Saturday. We stopped at a cloth rack and my mom pulled out a few dresses. " So... Who's your prom date?" She asked as she handed one to me, making our way back to the dressing room. " No one. " I replied. " No one?" She repeated. I nodded. " Yes." " Why? " " Well... Because I have no friends and the two guys who would have asked me out are hesitating. One, because he's broken up with me and the other, because he doesn't want to force me into making a decision I wouldn't like. " " Oh... " My mom trailed off as she helped me with my zip. " But seriously, who would you choose?" " I don't know mom... Right now, I'm sitting on the fence. " I answered, adjusting the dress. Once I was throu
