Chapter 3

Our teacher just discussed it, but Helen's glaring eyes were still sticky. Hasn't she been carried away by what ma'am said earlier? If she insisting to do that thing again on me, we might reach the Principal's Office. I still don't want to bother Nanang when she came here for no reason.

My day ended with the thought that Helen would never bother me again. So when I am about to leave the room, she suddenly blocked the door.

I will walk left. She will also walk to where I walk. "She’s starting to keep my blood pressure high!" I talk to myself.

"Can you please don’t block the doorway, Helen?" I said calmly.

She smirked before speaking. "Huh? And who are you to scold me, Vara?" And she laughed out loud as if teasing.

She was surprised when someone spoke behind her. "Miss Helen, I still have a class in another room, and I have my right to go outside this room. And can you please, don’t stand here outside the room and blocking the doorway? You’re a big woman and your body covers the whole space." And because of slight humiliation of what ma'am said, now Helen seemed to be crying and blushing.

Ma'am walks outside, and Helen spoke and asked her companions about what happened as if she was always needing help. "You! Why didn't you say that ma'am was behind me?" She whispered angrily to one of her alliance.

"You're the one who never believed her. Vara already told you to go through...but you didn't listen!" answer disgusted by her companion.

"Do I know that ma'am is on my back, earlier? Duh! Let's go," And they left.

Ma'am saw me and talked to me. "When did that girls started keeping on messing up, Vara? And fight with you?" Mrs. asked curiously.

"A-Ah, it's been a long time, ma’am, and I am used to them as well," I replied.

"Ahh, is that so? All right, just be careful with them next time, Vara. Particularly to Helen." Ma'am reminded me and she left as well.

I looked at my watch first to see what time it was. It’s past four o'clock in the afternoon. So, I hurried down the building. Grade six is on the third floor so I'm still a long way from downstairs.

Just as I stepped on the school ground, someone threw a small rock at me. So I felt it in my head to feel that. I searched the whole place and in the distance, I saw Helen with her tails again.

"Aren't you going to stop fighting with me, Helen?" And instead of keeping quiet, she seemed to be laughing at what I said.

“Stop? Vara, if I wanted someone to trip over, I really wouldn’t stop. And also…that isn’t included in my vocabulary.” And she smiled and laughed at her colleagues.

I am about to leave to go home, and going to Palmora’s Mansion.

"Oh! Are you in a hurry, Vara? Why? Do you become a vampire at night?" And they laughed out loud. I just look at them as if I am bored.

"What if, yes? I become a vampire at nightfall and I suck blood... fresh blood!" And I pulled out my two tiny fangs that stuck to the side of my tooth as if I am truly a vampire just to scare them.

Helen's eyes narrowed slightly and widened. And I even approached her. "What, Helen?" at the same time my tongue on my fangs acting thirsty for blood?

"Is your blood fresh? I smell…delicious," I scared her even more. And when I even approached her closer, I felt something strange. Especially when I brought my nose close to her neck. "The scent of your blood, Helen, maybe it tastes good to drink and suck."

She hardly pushed me. And her eyes widened when she saw something in my eyes. "V-Vampire! V-Vampire, you!" And Helen ran. And her companion was still looking at me as if I was being questioned. But I also scared them. "Rawr! The smell of your blood too!" And they also ran fast. "Helen, wait for us!" They shouted and run as fast as they could.

I laughed at their faces as they’re terrified me. I am innovating on my own. There is something inexplicable that feels. I was even more startled by the hand that rested on my shoulder.

"Uncle Dan, it's you." And I looked into uncle’s eyes. I was surprised when his eyes darkened for a moment and it turned red. So I rolled my eyes. And I also looked into him again to see if what I saw was true. But I don’t see something, maybe it’s just my imagination and I’ve been tired because of Helen’s nonsense accusations.

Uncle Dan was quiet. And I just followed him walking. When we were at the exit I saw the Palmora’s car. Uncle Dan just looked at me, and then he entered the driver's seat.

I just stared out of the car. When someone lowered the car window. "What? Are you just staring at us?" And raised the car window back. I hurriedly open the car door, took the passenger seat.

Harris, Uncle Dan, and I were just quiet. I am talking to Uncle Dan. But it was seriously focused on driving.

I am shocked when Harris spoke. "Uncle Dan can't answer your chats." He said.

"H-Ha?" I just asked in surprise.

"Uncle Dan is mute, so he doesn't speak." He explained.

I immediately realized what Harris had said.

So I just stared at Uncle Dan for a moment, and then looked at the road. When I noticed I saw in my peripheral vision that Uncle Dan was also staring at me. But when I turned my gaze to him, he suddenly withdrew his gaze away from me.

Until we reached the Palmora’s Mansion. I just waited for Harris to come out and I went out too.

"Hija!" Aunt Divina shouted at me. As if eager for me to see. "I'm glad to see you again. Come here, have a snack first…Harris, my son, have a snack here too!" He called Harris.

"Later, Ma! I'll get dressed first," Harris replied.

And I saw Nanang carrying our snacks, bread, and biscuits, with juice. "Hmm! This bread is delicious, Tita!" I have a clear hint.

"Yes, that was done by your Tito Gustavo!" I was surprised. "Tito? Wow! He's great!" I answer again in amazement.

"You better have a taste, hija, bread baked at home, I love baking. I baked a lot, so you can take it home." Tito said.

"What? Are you going home already? It's past six in the evening. Pina and Vara should sleep here tonight," Tito Gustavo just nodded laughing.

"But, my uniform is in my house, Tita. I have nothing to wear tomorrow." I explain.

"Yes, madam, it's also embarrassing, Dralia and I will go home together so there is not much risk." Nanang also explained.

"Oh! Even so, Pina. It's late night. You're both women." Tita said.

"We can only ask Dan to get your things there…we will just buy your undies. There is still a Mall open today. I will buy it," Tito suddenly approached Tita.

“And maybe someone will take an interest in your Aunt Divina, and even kidnap here, how about me? What will happen to me?" and Tito laughed out loud. Tita slapped him playfully.

"Thank you so much, don and madam!" Nanang said. "Yes indeed! Thank you very much, Tito and Tita!"

And Harris came right out and got dressed.

"We'll leave you two here first, Harris, if you need anything, our other housemates are there, just call them," Harris's face was surprised.

"Why, Ma? Where are you going?"

"Just buy something, we will take your Manang Pina and Uncle Dan. So you will be the one to leave Dralia first, okay?" Harris nodded and they left.

Harris ate quietly. "I'm sorry I treated you...when we were at your house." He apologized to me. I was happy. "Ha? Ah! That doesn't matter to me, Harris, I understand you." I said.

"Understand? How do you understand me?" He wondered. So I explained that in his Mother's story to me.

"Did Mama tell you that?" He cuts. So I bowed. But when he added what he was going to say, I raised my head and listened to what he had to say. "That's true. My childhood that I considered a brother died." Sadness can be seen in his eyes.

"What is the reason for your childhood’s death, Harris?" I asked.

"Based on what I found out, two small holes were found on his neck, the person who performed the autopsy said that he was bitten by an insect with venom. So Von died! Von is his name." He gave a long explanation so I listened to him. And something entered my mind. "But even though I was a few years old then! I don't believe insects that bit Von!" There was anger in his eyes. So I was shocked.

"W-What do you think b-bit your childhood, Harris?" I asked again.

"A---." he hangs to say so I focus listening. "---Vampire! A vampire bit and killed my childhood friend Von! Even if they didn't tell me! I know! Because I saw it myself! I, myself!" And he bowed his head and covered his face with his hand. "I saw it, Dralia! I can see clearly ‘til now, how those ruthless creatures have been bitten and sucked my friend!" Harris's face was streaked with grief. "I curse their kind! I curse them!" Harris kept shaking me with both arms.

I can imagine his surprise when he noticed maybe what he was doing to me. "Excuse me, Dralia, I was just carried away by my hatred of vampires!" I just nodded. "I understand you, Harris." I only said so.

Soon Harris and I were just quietly watching television when Nanang arrived with Tito and Tita. Uncle Dan came in and carried the groceries. He also approached me and handed me my uniform.

I took it. "Dralia," he said softly. I know, I know it came from Uncle Dan’s because we are far from the place of Nanang, Tito, Tita, and Harris. I looked at Uncle Dan, and I saw something dangerous warning his lips emitting an uplifting furry grin.

"Yes?" I asked Uncle Dan, but he did not answer and walked out of the mansion. "Isn't Uncle Dan, mute? No! He mentioned my name! I'm sure about it!" I hint to myself.

"Hija? Just follow your Nanang, that's your bedroom. You can go up there and get dressed first, come back down here for dinner." Tita's long statement.

I walked next to Nanang. "Dralia? I guess you're quiet? Is there a problem? Did Harris fight you again? Huh?" She muttered worriedly.

"Not, Nanang. I'm just thinking. And besides, Harris and I were okay earlier, he explained why he just did that.” And Nanang just nodded at me.

"It's a good thing, Dralia, I'm happy if it is like that, you will soon be friends too." and Nanang smiled.

"Ah, Nang, I just have a question." I suddenly thought about Uncle Dan. "Is Uncle Dan…mute?" Nanang was shocked by what I asked.

"Why did you ask that, Hija?" Nanang asked.

"Ahm, because, Harris said earlier in the car that Uncle Dan is mute, so he doesn't answer me with my chats," I explain.

"Moreover, a while ago when he gave me my uniform, he suddenly uttered something," I said.

"That's vague, hija, because as Harris said, your older brother Dan is mute," Nanang replied.

Mute? But I should not be wrong of what I’ve heard, Uncle Dan called me by my name.

You would not expect that it is still morning, the only thing that gives light inside--is the light from an elegant chandelier. The furniture inside was immediately noticeable which was mostly red and black. And surprisingly, you will not see a single window. Sir Dracu got my attention."Ahh....sorry, Sir, the color of your room is just amazing. It's pure black and red...and wait, Sir Dracu, do you have a fever? You’re pale face." I would have been fit to put my hand on his neck when he removed it, but only on weakly manner."I'm not sick, Miss Caldaraba, I'm fine. This is just the color of my skin." Sir's face was serious. Chapter 78We lost sight of the strange cloud we saw earlier, and instead of looking for that strange cloud, we just ignored it in the end, seeing that if we choose our curiosity over our mission, it might slow down our journey. Curiosity kills, as others would say. We just tell and make ourselves believe that maybe that strange cloud we saw just does not exist for real. Or maybe we did not see it in a clear view. What’s important now is our mission, nothing else would matter most. And maybe the three of us just see it as something unusual but not in the actual.“Won’t you still stop waiting for that strange cloud to come out again, Brother Harris, and Kiloy? Because if you’ll ask me if I were you, just don’t bother to disturb that cloud anymore. It is a waste of our time. Your curiosity will slow us down. That may just want our attention. Our tiredness is like killing us slowly, that is why we stopped and rested for the meantime. That means it can smell anything, everything. You name it. This is the right timing for us to rest since the morning already arrived and we are still running and jumping around not noticing it.
