“Let her go,” the boy repeated assertively, showing no sign of fear. Serena wasn’t able to comprehend how this boy was not afraid of Xander’s intimidating appearance.
Xander actually listened and released Serena to make his way toward the boy who just had dared to threaten him. Blood drained down Serena’s face as Xander’s intention became clear with each stride. He was going to hurt him.
But before she could say anything, both the boys were already in each other’s faces, staring one other down. Their unyielding confrontation sent tension crackling in the air. Serena swallowed, expecting worse.
“Do we have a problem?” Xavier ground out, not happy with the interruption.
“You tell me,” the boy held his head high and chin up. Not intimidated at all. He wasn’t being cocky, just fearless which Serena wasn’t sure if it was a good thing. He might be taller than Xavier, but Xavier was definitely more muscular than him.
“You are trying to get a beating, ain’t you, Four eyes?” Xavier took a threatening step towards him and spat menacingly, flexing his fists.
“Wanna find out?” the boy wearing baggy clothes dared Xander. Serena was mighty impressed by his attitude. It was so hot but at the same time, she couldn’t help but worry about his well-being. He will be done if Xander takes him up on his proposal.
Xander glowered up at him, shooting fire through his furious eyes. Tension thickened the air, making it difficult to breathe.
“You will regret it,” Xander gritted out eventually before getting back on his motorcycle and leaving. Serena frowned in confusion. She had expected him to go ballistic on the stranger. To at least beat him bloody.
His minions took off after him. The stranger sent them a bored look before shifting his gaze over to her. Serena crouched and started picking up her books. He walked over and lowered to help her collect her books.
“Thank you,” Serena said, glancing up. With his sleek midnight hair falling short of his eyes, he resembled some mysterious handsome character from an anime. But it was his jade-green eyes that prompted a storm in her heart. They washed over her like sea waves, dazzled her like the sun. She decided they were the most beautiful pair of eyes she had ever seen. She felt a strange unease in her heart. It wasn’t bad, just something she had never experienced before. He smiled, causing more trouble to her poor heart. She clutched her books tightly against her chest, afraid her heart would burst out any moment now.
“No worries,” he met her gaze and handed off books to her. Her heart skipped a beat every time he locked eyes with her. She looked down and gnawed at her lower lip shyly. What was happening to her?
“ You….Xander is..is a da..dangerous guy. You shouldn’t have th..threatened him,” Serena stuttered. She cursed inwardly. Why God hate her so much? This was so embarrassing. She had this condition- she stutters whenever her emotions gear into overdrive.
“He will not come after me if he knows what is good for him,” he told her, ignoring her stutters. Serena smiled, also grateful that he ignored her stutter. It’s difficult to explain to others about her stutters. Some of her friends had even called her an attention seeker for her stuttering even after she had explained to them it was involuntary. Why would anyone stutter willingly?
This stranger completely enchanted her. He had the appearance of a nerd- baggy clothes, glasses, and unstyled hair. But still, something about him was insanely attractive. Was it his unwavering confidence? Or his eyes that could drown anyone in them. Or his smile that can put even the sun to shame.
“Ne..never saw you here before. A..are you new?” she asked, very curious. She would have remembered this face if she had seen it before.
“Yeah,” he answered, rising. Serena had to crane her neck to keep looking at his face. He was way taller than her. She reached up only to his mid-chest. She felt like a dwarf in front of him.
“I got transferred here. Senior,” he added, casually scanning the crowd before them.
“Ohh..I..I am ss..senior too. So…do you have a f..friend here or something?” she enquired, wanting to know more about him. Usually, Serena was good at making conversation, but with this guy, she was having a hard time. This nerd was making her stutter like nobody’s business.
“No, I don’t,” he deadpanned as they marched together towards the building. A smile grew on her lips. Creep alert.
“I..I can show you around,” she looked over and offered.
“Will you?” he asked, smiling. Her heart did a backflip and her cheeks flushed. Why the hell was she blushing?
“Consider it as my way of thanking you,” she looked away and answered. Her stutter had improved now but the stutter of her heart was still on.
So as it turned out, they had their first class together. The teacher asked him to give his introduction. No one really gave this nerd much attention. And boy she was glad for it. Serena had alrady saved a spot for him beside her and he took it but not before murmuring a thank you—well-mannered check.
After their first class, she showed him the canteen and to his next class. She left but not before telling him to meet her at the cafeteria after the class. He nodded and walked into his class. Serena smiled at his retreating back. Her eyes turned wide in realization when she caught herself smiling like an idiot. She glanced around nervously. Did anyone see her? Thankfully, the students were lost in their own world to pay her mind. She sighed in relief. The fuck was wrong with her. Shaking her head in disbelief, she turned to get to her own class.
“Hi,” she set her books on the desk and plopped down beside Ayleen. The girl sent her a flat look.
“Assignment?” she asked in a monotone. Serena sighed and pushed the assignment her way. Ayleen started copying her assignment while she leaned back on her bench, daydreaming about a certain guy.
“Do you know we have a new student in our grade?” Serena started off.
“So he is the reason for your smile” Ayleen concluded as though she had been wondering it for long. She was taken aback by her sudden remark. She felt her cheeks warming up. Was she being that obvious?
“What’s his name?” Ayleen asked. It is then it clicked Serena. She was so lost in him that she didn't hear anything that came out of his mouth when he was introducing himself.
“Shit. I forgot to ask his name,” Serena realized. Ayleen smirked.
“Totally whipped,” she murmured under her breath but Serena heard her anyway. She snatched off her copy and told her to do it herself.
Once the class was over, she grabbed her bag and hurried her way to the canteen. He was already in there, looking for her. She reached over and tapped his upper arm as she couldn't reach his shoulder. He turned around and those jade-green eyes stole her breath all over again. “I was looking for you,” he told her, inducing another flutter through her heart. She smiled and dropped her gaze to the ground, hoping her blush wasn't visible. “How was your class?” she asked and led him towards the counter.“Good, I guess,” he lifted his one shoulder in a half-shrug. Serena found the act cute. The boy got her tray from the counter and handed her before taking his own. She murmured a thank you and led him to her usual spot. Serena couldn’t help but steal glances at him as he sat across from her, completely unaware of her growing infatuation with him. The more she looked at him, the more she felt attracted to him. He was surrounded by an air of mystery and intrigue. Something dangerous.
Days passed by, Serena noticed Asher had made some friends of which Chad seemed to be his closest. Chad was one of the basket players- popular but not conceited like the other players. Serena and Chad had never really talked as they moved in different circles, but she knew he was a decent guy. Asher had picked a good friend. “Hey,” a familiar voice interrupted her thoughts. She raised her gaze and a smile of its own bloomed across her face when she found those captivating eyes looking at her. “Hey,” she replied a little shyly. Smiling, he took a seat beside her. His scent wafted through her nostrils, throwing her senses into a delirium. He didn’t smell like expensive colognes, but like soap and fabric softener, and she loved it. She wanted to sniff him and overflow her lungs with his scent. “How are you?” she asked, genuinely curious. She found herself wanting to know more and more about him. “Good. And you?” he asked, looking to be in a good mood. She did not know why the lif
Shanice pulled in and slid on her Ray ban.“Is this the place?” Shanice questioned, scanning their surrounding. “Yup. According to the map,” Serena replied. Shanice opened her door and Serena followed suit. During their discussion, Asher had told her that his part-time job was to assist people riding water flyboards. The revelation had obviously thrilled Serena. She had never ridden a fly board before. When Asher found out, he invited her over for a ride. Serena had shared this with Shanice and Shanice expressed her will to accompany as she also had never ridden a flyboard. Serena was overjoyed. They walked a few feet and finally the lake came into their view. Serena spotted Asher who was helping the rider get off the board. “Asher,” she shouted and waved to him after she had her attention. Serena looked into those eyes and the world stopped moving for her for a second. He wasn’t wearing his glasses today. He smiled at her before shifting his gaze to Shanice. Shanice took off her
Serena was so happy. The whole weekend she had been reminiscing the moments they had together. She had never imagined flyboarding would be such a thrilling experience. This weekend felt as long as a decade. Humming a tune to herself, she emptied her milk carton into the small bowl she had set outside her apartment for cats before skipping her way toward the bus stand. “Serena,” she smiled involuntarily when his deep voice hit her ears. Turning around, she found him coming towards her. Her heart swooned at his sight. He was looking nothing different- same thick glasses, loose clothes but still, he managed to send a nervous flutter through her poor heart. To her dismay though, he had put on his glasses. How she wished he hadn’t. She wanted to see his eyes without any barrier. “How was your weekend?” he asked as he came to a halt in front of her. Serena was not really an introvert girl but for some weird reason, her mind would shut down every time he asked her anything. She just fel
The sun was pouring in through the window in heavy stream, keeping the room bright. Serena wasn’t able to focus on the lesson today, her eyes kept darting towards the door. The class was on for twenty minutes and he still had not come. Is he on leave today? Why though? He wasn’t the type to miss classes on a whim. Concern stirred within her. Is he okay? She promptly took out her phone and opened the messaging app. She typed him a message asking about his well-being. She pressed the send button and just then the wooden door creaked open. Her head snapped up towards it along with others. Her eyes flared out slightly when she saw him standing at the doorway. An unconscious smile crossed her lips. But then she frowned when she noticed he was wearing a hoodie on this scorching day. His head was downcast, hiding his face. The teacher asked him his reason for coming late and he responded with a vague answer. Thankfully, the teacher allowed him in with a warning as he was one of the brighte
Serena was intrigued now. She wanted to see underground fighting. She had been researching it since he told her about it and she couldn’t help but be both thrilled and nervous about it. She had casually asked him if they had different names like fighters do. He told her that they do but didn’t disclose his name. She was smart enough to pick up all the clues he dropped inadvertently. With their help, she looked it up on the internet. She was amazed to know such illegal groups even had websites. How come cyber people are not taking heed of them. Looks like there was only one underground boxing group in their city. The time was 11 PM to 5 AM. She knew it could be dangerous. She was aware of all the risks involved. It was an illegal place which meant no guards. And still, she couldn’t shake off her curiosity. She wanted to see how such places work. She had always been a good girl playing by the book but once she wanted to do something wild. And her propeller was Asher. She wanted to see
"What are you doing here?" Asher frowned at Shanice, clearly displeased. Shanice gave him a smile, "We came to see the fight. Had no idea you fight too. I am so glad I came here," she replied, smiling. "We?" Asher repeated in question, ignoring her compliment.Yeah. I and Serena," saying that she glanced around the hall for Serena. Serena was already coming towards them. Her features were strained and strides were hesitant. Asher's lips pressed into a thin line when he saw her."Hi," Serena timidly called to him. "The way you handled that man was very impressive. I assume you have been doing it for a long time," Shanice took over, sounding curious. "You should know better than to come here. This place isn't safe," his gaze darted between them as he spoke with a grate to his voice. Guilt immediately washed over Serena. Maybe, he was right. They shouldn't have come here. Look, he was mad at her now. "We can go anywhere we want. You have no right to impose your misogynist ideology o
“You wanna hang out tonight?” Serena asked Shanice as they made their way out of the cafeteria. “Not today. I have plans. We can hang out tomorrow,” Shanice replied, sounding a little apologetic. “Ohh,” Serena answered, feeling a bit disappointed. But she chirped up quickly. “Where you going today?” Serena asked, curious. Shanice shot her a bright smile. Her eyes sparked with passion and Serena couldn’t help but admire how gorgeous she looked. She was an effortless beauty. She could walk around straight out of bed and she would still turn heads. “I have a date tonight,” she revealed, grinning wide. Her blond tendrils were bouncing with her steps. She was exuding an inimitable grace. Serena perked up. “Really? Who was going to tell me? Who is he? Do I know him?” Serena fired questions, all excited.“I’ll tell you everything when the time is right. For now, I can only say he is a charmer,” Shanice explained to her. Serena wanted to know more but she didn’t push further. She w
