Rub salt into the wound. That's the term Maxine should have said to herself. Her emaciated body plunged onto the green expanse that became the front door of Hillcester University, after being hit hard in the stomach by one of the tall women, one of the many people who often bullied her.
A Security Guard approached her and cursed her for stepping on the grass which obviously should not be stepped on by anyone. In a hurry, Maxine forced her body to rise — stand up then run before the officer approached while storming her with various words cursing.
With a slow step, Maxine forced both her legs to run down one long hallway with sturdy posts on the left-right towards the only study room in the University building. Looking for her younger brother: Liam, who used to spend the rest of his hours at the venue with his books.
The blond young man with a slight curly blob covering part of his forehead spontaneously lifted his head from the pile of books in front of him. His pair of gray irises caught the figure of the woman he was so familiar with getting hurt here and there, desperately trying to come at him with a shuddering step.
Liam grabbed the books and his bag, then ran up to Maxine who had just lowered her limp-looking shoulders. Liam swiftly lifted Maxine's shoulders —straightening it on the line parallel.
"Raise your head, Max!"
Liam deliberately took a breath, sweeping his gaze throughout the room, ascertaining the surrounding situation.
Worried there were a few pairs of eyes to see what Maxine had just done. For their families, lowering the shoulder in such a bad condition is the attitude of a weak person. Liam doesn't want people to look at Maxine as a bad girl. Because in Liam's point of view, Maxine was amazing, it's just that she never showed it in front of anyone else. Hillcester people in particular.
Maxine has always been regarded as a poor girl born into a clan most hated by almost all of the Werewolf Clan across the country, and at the age of more than 17 years, she has not shown herself as the daughter of an Alpha Mother and the late father of a Beta. The weakness is considered to be multiplying.
It's different with Liam, even though everyone knows who his family is, people never look down on him. Even some of them like, adore Liam, also include Liam in the list of men who must be invited when campus holds prom night.
The body is above average height, six feet tall. The sharp gaze of his gray irises, as well as his slanted smile that looked seductive, could not be denied by any girl. Who would dare to reject it? I don't think there is.
"Who’s hit you, Max?" asked Liam, as he pulled Max out of the study room, passing through several hallways to their secret place. Abandoned campus warehouse.
Maxine took a deep breath before finally raising her head, aligning her emerald iris with her brother's gray beads, then patting his wide shoulder in front of her, and said, "turn me into whatever you think is amazing."
A moment's silence. Liam was pensive, thinking of the barrage of sentences that had just slid free from his sister's mouth in a calm-sounding voice. More than any river in any part of the world.
Liam winked at a pair of his round eyes quickly, when he realized the car keys in the denim pockets of his jacket had vanished, along with Maxine's figure having disappeared while swerving at the intersection of the aisles in front of him.
Liam nimbly runs and chases his sister to the spot where their car is parked. He knew he should have done this all the time. Making some changes to Maxine, he and his mother should have done it a long time ago. Although Maxine rejected him hundreds of times.
Liam almost spent half of his mother's savings, to meet all the needs of his sister. For three hours Liam took Maxine shopping, entering one by one shops in the middle of the city. Buy dozens of pairs of clothes, shoes, bags, as well as other necessities.
Now, the two siblings are glaring at the pile of paper bags they brought from shops in the middle of the city.
Maxine didn't even say anything to Liam, but it seemed that her brother suddenly went crazy. Buying her a variety of models of clothes, shoes, and bags, even though the money they use is their mother's money, still Maxine feels everything is excessive.
Maxine dropped her body on a padded mattress with the striped black bed linen. She took a deep breath before finally closing both eyes with her right arm.
"You'll be dead if mom looks at all these... useless things," commented Maxine.
The teak door that covered Liam's bedroom creaked, squeaking with the sound of right knocks that sounded in rhythm with their mother's soft voice.
"This time I was happy when Liam over-used my card," Daniella said.
The blue-eyed woman barged in, then checked the paper bag that surrounded Liam one by one. While Maxine was still reluctant to raise her head or just look, and reply to their mother's words.
If you look more closely, Daniella still seems too young to be called a mother. When wearing a midi dress that makes her look so graceful, Daniella looks more like the oldest sister in a family.
Despite her mid-40s, she still looks so young. Like a young girl who had just entered the number 30 in a matter of years of her birth.
Daniella lay on Maxine's right side, followed by Liam afterward. The two flank Maxine who is still so engrossed in looking for all kinds of silences that so loved more than anything else.
Daniella and Liam wrapped their hands together, hugging Maxine with all the warmth they had. In a matter of five, Maxine opened her eyes, staring at two of the most precious humans in her life in turn.
Maxine snorted, then said, "Can't you guys just change me in my style?"
Daniella and Liam shook their head in a sam harmony. Both gave the same answer. A no. One word that sounds so loud. A strict ban that even Maxine herself is not allowed to argue with in any form.
Without waiting for Maxine's whining reply, Daniella and Liam rushed her to one of the special rooms inside their home. The thing they did before forcing Maxine to try on the clothes was treated all the wounds on her body.
Three days passed, as usual, Maxine did not appear anywhere while she was recovering all the wounds on her body. But that day Maxine came up with a completely another look than usual.
No more large round glasses perched on her nose bridge. No more rotten sneakers that support a pair of her long legs. No more smelly shabby jeans that are allegedly rarely washed, it could be entered into the washing machine only once a year and twice.
Also, there was no more head bowing, staring at the hem of the shoe as she walked to break up the crowd in the hallway towards the locker. Maxine's style still looks like it used to. Casual, sporty, and feminine mix so perfectly and balanced.
All the crowds disappeared along with Maxine's presence there. Dozens of eyes were on her. She is now the center of attention of almost all students of all grades. They all showed the same shock. No exception includes Mary.
The girl who always gets the title of Prom Queen from year to year is almost gaping, with her caramel irises retaining as Maxine flashed in front of her. Even her best friend, Sidney, the blonde girl swears at Maxine deliberately turning her head —staring at them even if it's only a few seconds.
Maxim's baritone voice, however, managed to make Mary wince and turn to her right side. For a moment she almost forgot that there was an athletic man who was she adored.
Jeez! Did Max stare at the wolf-less girl?
Mary hurriedly closed her mouth, as she almost voiced her curiosity to the surface. And once again, Maxim repeats his question that was ignored by his two best friends, as well as his girlfriend: Mary.
"Is she a new girl in town?"
Maxim's tone sounded calm. He managed to cover up his curiosity, worried that Mary would give an overreaction to his question.
Instead of answering, Mary chose silence. But she has tightened her arms, almost gripping Maxim's left ribs that felt so attached to the surface of her palm.
In this situation, it was Sidney who showed her dominant nature. The blonde girl sprayed her eyeballs while clucking lazily, and voiced a few broken words.
"She's the wolf-less girl," Sidney explained lazily. "She's just getting a huge make-over!"
In haste, Sidney pulls Mary away from her boyfriend, taking Mary through the crowd—infiltrating into a cramped space they call a safe haven.
"Listen, Mary. We have to prank her again." Sidney voiced her impulsive ideas again, as usual.
Of course, what Sidney said was true. Mary even feels threatened, when she sees Maxim looks a little curious when he tells her about who Maxine is.
"Call the useless Hybrid, then tell her to beat up that wolf-less girl!"
Mary suffocated before then moving to the place where her boyfriend was, leaving Sidney alone in the cramped space they used to share the same annoyance.
While searching for a name in a row of contacts, on her smartphone, Sidney grumbled in annoyance. "Why don't you do it yourself, anyway? Bossy!”
That afternoon, the University cafeteria was quiet. Only a few seats were filled. As usual, Maxine opted to sit apart from Liam, letting her brother enjoy his lunch comfortably with friends his age. While Maxine chose to sit in a seat, holding a metal tray containing her favorite mac and cheese over her thighs, no one was willing to share the table with her.
That afternoon, the weather in Hillcester looked a little grey. The clouds up there looked blackened, like drowsy, and almost spilled their water as soon as the petals clenched.
Maxine turned her face away, staring out the window, gazing at the deserted University garden that seemed too deserted. Not as usual. She let out a deep sigh, before finally devouring her first mouthful of mac and cheese with her shoulders slowly descending from wasting her breath in one heavy gust.
Maxine knows where everyone who always makes noise out there goes. She knew they were preparing a plan to make fun of her as they had done before.
Sure enough, a swarm of girls came, approaching Maxine with clenched hands. Like a group of thugs who want to judge their opponents with the guts of a fingernail, because they do not dare to do it alone.
At the same time, Maxim enters the cafeteria with two of his best friends. The three young men shook their heads in disbelief, seeing a group of girls about to interrupt Maxine's lunch.
"Are the people here insane?" Leo almost swears, if only Ivan didn't pat him on the shoulder.
Leo, the tan-skinned young man, almost often saw such scenes during their time as students as well as permanent residents of Hillcester. Even Ivan, the pale-skinned man several times caught the girls who looked like a bunch of thugs were bothering Maxine.
But for Maxim, the scene was the first time he had seen firsthand what his two best friends often reported. He thought, all along, what these two were reporting was just nonsense. A joke that his father often made, when his mother sulked.
Maxim almost ran over, approaching the crowd that was bothering Maxine, even almost spilling her lunch. But, Leo and Ivan restrained him.
"It's not right, but... take a look!" Ivan put his head to the place where the chaos was.
The three young men sculpted as they watched Maxine give a fight—returning the girls' blows, even knocking everything down with the help of a stainless tray in her right hand.
From Maxim's point of view, all of those events appear in slow-motion, such as tense scenes that are deliberately twisted slowly in an action genre film.
WOW.
Maxim subconsciously voiced his admiration, as the girl flashed even turned her head and exchanged glances with him for a few seconds.
But the beat of Mary's heels and loud voice managed to make Maxim silence the mouth, also changing the way he looked at Maxine in an instant. Unfortunately, his efforts were too late, Mary had already caught all sorts of admiration, even twinkling his eyes when exchanging glances with Maxine even for a moment.
The scene made Maxine stop her steps, even turning around —staring at Mary while throwing a smile as her emerald iris met Mary's that seemed to be burning with jealousy.
Maxine pointed her right index finger at the spot where the girls who attacked her fell and said. "By the way, thanks for the delivery."
Mary's anger was growing. In that second she almost ran, lunged, maybe even attacked Maxine if a hand did not pull his arm firmly.
With a broken motion, Mary turned her head and looked at the owner of her hands. her mouth was open, her lips quivering as she was about to make a sound. But he immediately clenched it, because Maxim, the one holding him first stopped him —called for a sentence no one ever expected.
"So, you're the one who's been harassing her all this time, Mary?"
"So, you're the one who's been harassing her all this time, Mary?"Instead of answering, Mary chose to lower her head and make a play, as if the place was the stage for her. He even forced his eyes to shed unnecessary tears, as if crying.Leo and Ivan sprayed his eyeballs, then stayed away —letting Maxim end things he hadn't even had time to start yet. Not to forget, they brought Sidney along.Maxim rubbed his face with a rough sweep while exhaling his rough breath. Upset? Of course. Confused? Absolutely. He didn't even say anything that hurt Mary's heart, well, maybe Maxim's map sounded cornering. But really, Maxim didn't mean it that way. Now, inevitably he has to seduce Mary. He smiled, even if he didn't want to do it. But as a man, and as the one who had given
"Adorable." Maxim thought.Although Maxim almost often saw Maxine passing by in front of him while in the University, they came face to face, without the presence of others. Just the two of them, in the midst of a lot of fast-food restaurants. No Mary, Leo, Ivan, nor Sidney were everywhere Maxim went.In between moments stealing his gaze on Maxine, Leo, and Ivan who have just entered the Restaurant capture clearly how Maxim stared at Maxine."Is he trying to cheat?" Leo becomes the first to speak out when he decides to approach the table, where Maxim enjoys his burger.Leo and Ivan fill the empty bench in front of Maxim. Worried about being misunderstood, Maxim immediately shifted his attention, to his two best friends who were looking at him suspiciously.
They don't know what Maxim was going to do to them, which was clear, he looked very ready to attack. "SHE DOESN'T DESERVE THAT!" Mary and Sidney howled, then ran off the mount —avoiding Maxim who from both points of view was about to lunge to the place where they were. Instead of attacking, Maxim lunged at the vampire who was trying to finish off Maxine whose clothes were almost torn, snagged twigs, and various pointed objects strewn on the ground. Now Maxim is struggling against the vampire when Maxine manages to escape —hiding behind Maxim's sturdy back. She was unconscious. Hang on. I'll finish him, then take you home. As per his words, Maxim managed to finish off the vampire —tearing his ice-cold body, then throwing it on the flames that Ivan also Leo deliberately made. "I'll take her home," Maxim exclaimed, as he managed to put on full clothes. Swiftly, Maxim grabbed Leo's hoodie lying on the ground, then he used it to wrap around Maxine's body. Leo clucked to see his be
Maxine draped her shoulders, then threw a smile, and replied, "I don't know, ma'am. I... Don't remember anything about it. All I remember is... I was on my way home from Fish and Chip Restaurant."Daniela and Liam seemed disappointed to hear about it. It seems like they're expecting another version of Maxine's story."Let's just say that everything he was just said are the truth." insisted Maxine. The girl got up from where she was sitting, then went into the bathroom —taking off all the clothes that wrapped her body, including a hoodie belonging to a stranger. The next split second Maxine opened the door a little, holding out the thick navy hoodie, shouting her brother's name, asking him to put these hoodies in the washing machine. She has to return that to his ow
"I think I needed some space, Mary." Maxim shook his head, then fixed his sentences, what he said earlier. "We need some spaces." After that Maxim moved on, leaving Mary alone there. Hurriedly, Maxim walked ahead of Maxine who was stopping to tie her shoelaces. The man looked so angry, clearly visible from the way he stepped, and his swinging hands seemed to clench strongly. From behind her back, Maxine heard two voices calling out to Maxim. But the owner of the name did not care about the series of calls. He continued to step, leaving the building, straight to the place where he parked his motorcycle. Maxine got up from where she was squatting after finishing neatly tying her shoelaces. At the same time, Ivan and Leo approached her with a curious look. All Maxine did in return was just stare at the two with a fl
The girl hurriedly turned her face away from Maxim. However, they do not need to interact, even exchange glare like humans in general. "Sorry," Maxim said quietly. Both of them looked at the waves that were pounding under each other's feet. Nothing was done by Maxim and Maxine, other than sinking into each other's minds. But Maxine becomes the only one who is disturbed by some things that disturb her during the trip. A handful of Mary's complaints. For the first time in her life, Maxine feels guilty for what she didn't really do. Maxine took a deep breath, before then turning to her right side, staring at Maxim and voicing something disturbing her. "If... If only you're avoiding someone, or maybe everyone... At least, don't turn off your phone. My ears almost bleed c
Maxim took a deep breath, then ventured to look at Maxine fixedly, straight into her green eyes. "What if it turns out that the little wolf that saved you that day was me?" Maxine laughed bitterly in response to Maxim's question which sounded quite shocking. "How could it be?" Maxine ended her question with a laugh, like never before. "I'll prove it." Maxim got up from where he was sitting, taking off his shirt and the thin T-shirt inside. Maxine calls for a ban when Maxim wants to undress. "Don't you dare!" Maxine almost squealed at maxim almost lowering his pants. Maxim shook his head softly while chuckling smoothly.
Ivan and Maxim’s eyes round perfectly when they’re hearing an impulsive question. They ignore the kind of sound they hear. Just focus on the arrangement of sentences that echo there. They were even transfixed, just staring at each other. None of them moved or even turned to the source of the sound.Watching the two freeze, Leo who had been eavesdropping on the conversation between Maxim and Ivan from behind the door finally burst into laughter. Then he ran over and embraced the shoulders of both.In between his laughs, Leo voiced a conclusion that made him laugh. "Do you think I'm the Rector of the University, or your future father-in-law, Max?"Maxim and Ivan spontaneously hit Leo's arm, as the two managed to gather consciousness after a while of fixation an
If only that little debate hadn't happened that day, perhaps by then Dalton would have been much more devastated. Heartache was overwhelming when he found out his best friend was planning something bad for him. On his family. On him. Especially Maxine. The child Jase secretly often calls a disgrace. The only child born to Alpha's mother and father, but unable to summon the wolf inside her. She, Maxine Kelly, is wolfless."Do you know, if Dalton’s daughter can destroy our people one day?" Suzane opens up the main topic—the main purpose of her calling Jase into a closed-door meeting that she deliberately holds along with Johny Smith and Drew Logan—The Alphas who master white Gorge; a region that the lower-middle-class werewolves could not touch.Feeling the same spiteful envy towards Dalton Kelly, Suzane Young and Jackson Young deliberately gathered people who had the same vision and mission as them. Destroying Dalton Kelly, as well as eliminating Maxine; the only wolfless living in the
"What does Mrs. Park have to do with all this?" Maxine frowned for the umpteenth time."I must break your memory barrier," said the pale white woman with a line of smiles adorning her face, as Maxine and Maxim looked up in unison —looking at her.Ivan and Leo shifted. Lisa rejoined the two men, giving Mrs. Park free space."Excuse me?" said Mrs. Park, as she was about to put down her palm, touching one side of Maxine and Maxim's face."Close your eyes. Let all those memories come back to both of you. Don't fight anything you guys feel." Mrs. Park continued.Maxine and Maxim gave the same nod. Agree. The two closed their eyes after getting the order from Mrs. Park. In the early minutes, Maxim and Maxine looked relaxed. But in the following few minutes, the two of them were even crying with sweat pouring on both sides of each other's faces.Maxine and Maxim are brought into their memories—their childhood. To them, the atmosphere they were watching at this time seemed familiar. They even
"Indeed, what are you feeling?" asked Maxine without turning her head in the slightest. She lowered her head even more."I like you.""Hm?" Maxine nodded slowly."I love you..."Maxine slowly raised her gaze, staring into the alpha's green bead while slowly pressing out a gentle smile. "I know..." softly."Just like that? Your answer?" Maxim raised his eyebrows, looking at Maxine with indecisive feelings and curious.Maxine knew the meaning of the gaze. Soon she approached, then briefly pecked Maxim's full lips with a smile. "Now you're mine," Maxine whispered softly. "You should have known what my statement meant.""Come here." Maxim whispered back.Maxine approached, then pressed her lips against Maxim's. She sucks it up, giving all the intimacy that the alpha craves. Allowing herself to sink and drift along with the hundreds of butterflies that filled her stomach.I love you too, Max. you know that. Maxine said silently in her heart.A few days later, Maxim and Maxine returned to H
Maxine rubbed her face with a rough sweep. At least She regretted what She had said to Jace Stone. She rubbed her face again as she walked towards the bathroom, looking at the reflection of herself in the sink mirror.Maxine laughed bitterly. "Sorry, Mr. Stone. I can't let go of your son," she repeated her words last night. She laughed again with a soft shake when she remembered the fact that it was this sentence that made Jace Stone order the vampires to tear the clothes she was wearing, even though some of them were ordered to hurt her, and fortunately, none of the vampires managed to hurt her, because every time the wound appeared it would be tight again as soon as it appeared. After performing a series of rituals of self-appeasement; Meditating and imagining the good things that had previously happened to her, Maxine returned to the room, chose a variety of clothes that Maxim bought for her and put on one of them, and then ate a few pieces of sandwiches that Maxim also bought for
"I expected it," the woman hissed quietly, almost in hushed tones, her gray bead staring at Maxine, who was sleeping in Maxim's sling. "It turned out that this kind of thing did happen again."When he heard this, Maxim frowned and turned his head, curiously looking at the woman. "Did it happen again?"The woman turned her head, putting on a clumsy smile to conceal the carelessness she had just displayed. "No way. There is nothing, "she exclaimed, a little excitedly. "Please ignore me. I'm just messing around because I'm too tired to do anything else."Maxim nodded, hesitant to believe the woman's words. "Go home if you're tired, madam," Maxim suggested, his face as tired as the woman who said she was exhausted. "Have your working hours just begun?"The woman shook her head. "I'll go home after dropping you guys off."Maxim nodded. He stepped out of the elevator when it came to a halt and the door to the second floor opened. "We're going to pick this floor, madam," Maxim said as he exi
"Where's Maxine?" Ivan swept his gaze around when he couldn't find the figure of the girl on any side.Maxim and Leo suddenly turned their heads, combing the entire side of the forest around them with each other's eyes. Maxine wasn't there, not even their only herd remaining. The only ones surviving the vampire attacks had disappeared. But not long after, as if giving them an answer, Maxine's screams and the loud howls of their herd in the distance were heard. The three youths rushed to light the fire and rushed to follow the source of the sound after witnessing the corpses of their herd being devoured by the flames. Together with Ivan and Leo, Maxim howled, signaling to Maxine that they were going to catch up and save her.Could it be, that what dad promised them was Maxine? Maxim thought worriedly. Maxine's soul?
"Is that my father?" Lisa asked Liam curiously.Liam was about to answer, but Daniella's voice made his mouth close again. He didn't know when Daniella stood behind his high back. As soon as he heard his mother's voice, Liam followed Maxim and Maxine out of the way, then made a way for Daniella to approach the eldest daughter of the Stone family."Not your father," said Daniella, smiling a small smile.Lisa nodded. She then looked at Maxine, Maxim, and Liam alternately. "Could you guys come out for a bit?" she asked softly. "I need to speak to Mrs. Kelly. Just the two of us. "The three nodded obediently, quickly leaving the room, and Maxine was the last one in there, quickly closing the door. Leaving Lisa and her mother in the same room, wanting to talk about something.
"It's a family thing, mom," Maxine interceded. It seemed that she knew what happened, even though she felt that she was the cause of what happened to Lisa. "Please just treat her right."Danielle was tight-lipped. She hurried to clean the wound on Lisa's back carefully after Liam came to bring a bowl of warm water and a small towel. Lisa grimaced, she even squeezed Maxim's hand while closing her eyes. While Liam approached Maxine who chose to look at the golden color that dominated the sky from behind the window of her room facing the balcony, deliberately turning her face away from the Stone siblings."Hey?" said Liam for the first time. "I'm sorry."Maxine nodded without turning her head. "Forget it, Liam. It's not a big deal."
"Moon Goddess has stepped in, Stone," said the woman called Mrs. Park in a whisper that was as firm as Jase's. "You can't separate them anymore, even after you've eliminated Dalton Kelly.""Shut your mouth tight if you don't want my packs to destroy this place when you're caught off guard," Jase threatened before he then headed to the table where his son and the wolfless girl were."Maxim Stone," Jase said in a heavy hoarse voice. "Come with me.""Let me take her home, dad."Maxim then got up from where he was sitting, then approached Maxine while stretching out his right hand. "After you," he whispered softly.Maxine almost reached Maxim's helping hand, unfortunately, Jase first brushed the hand from her face while looking a
