Prologue.

BOOK TWO.

~Prologue~

He flashed her a demonic smirk after turning her face back in his direction. "Then tell me." Staring down at her with his jaws shut tight, he asked, "Who are you more scared of?"

"I beg you. Leave me." She tried to fight his deadly grip, but to no avail. "I am scared." Her struggle was getting violent.

"You are scared?"

She nodded at him fatuously. Because she was. She was hurt, angry, embarrassed, afraid, and helpless.

"From whom?"

"Y-you!"

He gave out a booming laugh at her reply, to which she jumped at the suddenness of it.

"Me or them?" His eyes were colder than a glacier's. "You are afraid of me after I just told you about how merciless those people are?"

She flinched at the tone of his voice as her ansty eyes wandered away from him fearfully.

"Y-you."

"Why?"

"Because you are hurting me more than them!"

At her horrified sob, he slackened his hold on her completely. Eventually, he left the grip on her neck from behind entirely. Her tears tasted salty when they dipped into her parted mouth.

It was an abuse of power and strength, and such a sadistic move that she wanted to scream in his face about it not being normal! So not normal!

"I am not used to losing. Never had," he uttered, glaring at her reddish face that was wet with tears. "But if, by any slight mistake, someone dared to even touch a single hair on your head without my permission, I would lose." His intense gaze became deep. "And when I lose," moving closer until she was just a breath away from him, he ended, "my loss is another's invitation to death."

Her eyes got bigger and wider. Her heart pounded as if it were going to fall out of her chest.

"I will burn this very fucking city down if I have to."

She backed herself into a corner, feeling totally empty to think of anything. In the middle of everything that was happening, her wound was torn open. The same wound that was caused by him alone. A week ago.

"And I mean every word I say." His warmth-radiating fingers on her jaws burned her skin when he tilted her chin further to have her glazed eyes on him. “Don't be dense enough to ignore the warning signs you get when you know what's lurking in the darkness.”

Not being able to form any coherent words, she stood there, trembling with what he had just said. It left an impact on her brain. She sensed her heart being dropped inside her chest. His words were harsher than he had ever used on her before. It was shocking to hear him say something like staking a claim on an inanimate object. Like he was indeed doing to her now. As if she was one of many possessions of his. As if she somehow became a pet of his that he was ordering around to do, knowing what was best for her. But she was not an object, no. She was a living, breathing human being with emotions!

She was a person!

"What- what are you saying?"

"Whatever you are giving attention to is exactly what I am saying."

His shadow was much more prominent than she had ever noticed before. His eyes drank her in, which reflected the emotions that her eyes portrayed. Out of all the emotions that she felt, shock was the most prominent among them. Whereas, his eyes shone with blended darkness. Watching him, a feeling of premonition took place inside her mind. The thoughts engulfed her in a never-ending ray of darkness.

“What will it take for you to listen to me?”

Shifting her eyes to the emotionless face that kept on watching her, it made her heart skip a beat. “I need you to stay away from me! That's all I want from you.”

“That's sad because that's not what I have in mind.”

Their eyes remained connected.

He scrutinised her. His black gaze met hers, freezing her in her place with the intensity she was obliged to submit.

Silence washed over the room, with her erratic breathing being the only noise.
