MEETING MRS. MOTHER-IN-LAW

“Mom!” Steven exclaimed.

He stared at the scenario in front of him.

Him on top of Yan, his mother caught the both of them and is now staring with parted lips.

He quickly sprang on his feet.

“ Mom, actually it’s not…

“ Sorry, my manner. I should have knocked before entering” Mrs. Eva said, picking up her bag.

Elegantly, she approached, a smile creeped on her lips.

One could hardly believe she was Steven’s Mom.

She looks way younger and extremely beautiful.

You could clearly see that Steven got his handsome face from her.

“But next time you might as well do that in your room, not on the coach” She added and Yan sprang on her feet.

“ You’re Steven’s girlfriend, right?” She asked, facing Yan and Yan swallowed nervously not knowing what to say.

“ Tell me, what’s your name? How old are you? Where do you live and what do you do for a living……..

Steven grabbed his mother’s wrist to prevent her from asking further questions.

He placed his hands on her shoulders, turning her to face him.

“ Mom! Her name is Yan Yunqi, she’s 22 and still a senior student of Nancheng University” Steven replied and Mrs. Eva gasped.

“ She’s too young. You’re…….” Mrs. Eva was about saying but let out a chuckle instead.

“ It’s ok. Difference of few years is fine. Besides an older man is more loving”  She said and Yan just chuckled, nodding at every word she says.

Mrs. Eva pushed Steven gently to one side advancing towards Yan.

“ Yan Yunqi, right?” She asked and Yan nodded.

“ Tell me, what are you studying and how did you meet Steven?” Mrs. Eva asked and Yan chuckled nervously.

She made to talk but her words got stuck in her throat as she couldn’t find a convincing lie to tell.

Steven stylishly approached.

“ He and ermm.. I…..

“ I’ll triple the service charge” Steven whispered to Yan and on hearing that, her brain formulated a lie instantly.

“ Aunt I study art and design and I met Steven at work” Yan said with a broad smile and Steven turned.

“ Back in his office, I heard about his comment on my comics. He gave me a deep impression and I couldn’t her but fall head over hills for him” Yan added and forced a smile to creep up her lips, looking at Steven.

Steven also forced a smile up his lips as he hung his hand around Yan’s shoulder, pulling her closer.

“ That’s really impressive. Finally my son has gotten a girlfriend at last. I won’t have to suffer from insomnia anymore” Mrs. Eva beamed.

“ You know, I’ve never seen him with a girlfriend before and he keeps on putting his blind date on hold “ Mrs. Eva added.

“ Really?” Yan asked, shooting Steven a suspicious look.

Steven glared at her before turning to Mrs. Eva.

“ Mom, enough of the questions. Am sure you have things to do, so you should get going” Steven said, pushing Mrs. Eva gently towards the door.

“ Ermm. Yan are you free tomorrow? If you’re are, let’s chat over a meal” Mrs. Eva said.

“ Sure Aunt, I’ll always have time for you” Yan replied with a smile and Steven sent her a dangerous glare but Yan just blinked at him innocently.

“ Wonderful. Steven, make sure to pick her up tomorrow to meet me” Mrs. Eva said.

“Ok, I’ll get going, bye “ Mrs. Eva added.

“Bye bye” Yan waved  and Mrs. Eva left.

Steven turned to Yan, his face  squeezed up in anger.

“ Mr Liu, let’s talk about the tripled service tomorrow. See you” Yan said, heading to the door.

She opened it and left.

           THE NEXT DAY

     AT THE RESTAURANT

Steven waited impatiently before Yan arrived.

She caught sight of him sitting at the other side of the restaurant and she approached.

On seeing her, Steven glared at her.

“ Are you wearing that to meet my mom.” Steven asked Yan scanned herself to see if she was wearing something odd.

“ I was dressed even more casually yesterday, why do you have a problem now?” She asked and Steven hissed.

“ I already told you earlier. Give my mom a good impression” Steven replied coldly.

“ I don’t want to marry into your family, so why should I impress her? Moreover, I’ll try, for the sake of the money involved” Yan said sitting.

Mrs. Eva entered the restaurant and saw the two of them.

 

She approached with a smile plastered on her face.

“ You arrived” Yan said with a smile standing and Mrs. Eva nodded.

“ Why don’t you order for something” Yan asked.

“ Yan Yunqi, this is our first meeting. You don’t he to be all formal” Mrs. Eva said and Yan nodded before sitting.

“ Mom, what will you like to eat” Steven asked.

“ Anything” Mrs. Eva replied.

“ Ermm…and order for a glass of tomato juice, two glasses actually” Yan said with a smile and Steven glared at her.

“ Actually Yan, I forgot to ask you something yesterday. Tell me what do plan on doing after graduation?” Mrs. Eva asked.

“ I plan to focus on animation” Yan replied.

“ Then join Zhichoa animation” Mrs. Eva offered.

“ You can help Steven out” She added.

“Of course……Not happening” Yan and Steven replied at the same time.

“ Her drawing is different from Zhichoa” Steven said.

“Actually Aunt, Steven is right. Zhichoa requires high standard cartoonist and am nothing more than a college student, I can never match up to their standard” Yan replied glaring at Steven who kicked her leg under the table, signaling her to keep shut.

“ What do your drawing normally focus on?” Mrs. Eva asked.

“ Romance! She deals on romance comics”  Steven replied immediately.

“ Yes aunt. Something like; the richest man in the world falling in love with a poor college student. To please the girl, he brings his company down effortlessly” Yan said and Steven kicked her leg, sending her a warning glare.

“Ermm.. Mom she’s just practicing” Steven replied with a chuckle.

“ That’s not it. I want money” Yan replied.

“ Do you love money that much?” Mrs. Eva asked.

“ Mom what she meant was……

“ You’re right aunt, I love money. I can do anything for it, walk a dog, food delivery, printing service, be a tutor and so on. I accept whatever job available for money……

      Steven grabbed her wrist immediately, sending daggers at her.

“ Stop talking” He whispered amidst gritting teeths.

He released his grip on her on realization that his mom was still present.

He forced a smile up his lips, caressing Yan’s palm gently.

“Here we are” Mrs. Eva announced as they step into a boutique.

Yan held her palm, nervously.

“ Aunt, isn’t this too early?” She asked.

“ Calm down Yan,  it’s not as if you’re getting married tomorrow. I just want the both of to take some pre-wedding pictures” Mrs. Eva assured and Yan nodded.

Just then a lady approached.

“ Ma’am, here are the latest wedding gowns and evening dresses you’ve requested” The lady said.

“ We won’t go through the pictures, just let them try every one of them” Mrs. Eva replied and Steven groaned silently.

“ But Mom….

“ No excuses. Both of you should go ahead, don’t dilly-dally. I’ll wait for you here” Mrs. Eva said, pushing both of them forward gently.

The curtain drew open, revealing Steven and Yan, looking as elegant and stunning as ever.

Steven was putting on a black tuxedo with a bow tie.

His hair was curled backwards, making his sharp jawline more visible.

Yan on the other hand was putting on a Cinderella white grown with no hands.

Her hair was falling freely on her shoulders with a crown placed above her hair.

Both of them looked just like” the perfect couple” as you could see in movies………….
