CELINE’s POV
- “Celine, what do you need from Hanna?” Astrid asked me. “I just have something important to ask her.” I answered, almost in a whisper. I saw in the rear-view mirror Astrid open her mouth, but she closed it and did not ask again. In the passenger seat, Christine turned to me and smiled. I returned her with a small smile, then I looked outside. After what happened last night with Lance, I haven’t talked to him again, nor have I been able to look at him until I’ve met Hanna. Hanna Matthew is Lance’s right hand or underboss in his organization. Hanna is often with Lance when Lance transacts in the underground. Also, Hanna once lived in the mansion we live in now. Hanna only left the mansion because of me. Hanna told me the one time I talked to her she knows her boundaries as Lance’s friend and that it is not good to see if she will stay in the mansion as her friend Lance is married. I was so hurt last night and felt bad for my baby. My baby is still in blood and growing, yet everyone is important to me and I love the one who wants to lose my baby. I ran to my room last night and spent most of the night crying. Today I accompanied Astrid and Christine to the place where Hanna resides. Apart from not wanting Lance to be aware of my plans to see Hanna, I made sure that the personal driver he provided did not accompany me. I also don’t know where Hanna lives. Hanna’s big brother is a friend of Astrid’s and Christine, so they know Hanna’s place. It wasn’t long before Christine serenely called me because we were about to get out of the car. It was only at that moment that I realized we were in the basement parking lot. “Let’s discuss your problem after we finish going to meet with Hanna.” I have already reserved at your favorite restaurant.” “T-Thank you...” I almost stammered. As much as I could, I stopped my tears from falling. “Let’s go.” I nodded and then we went out together. As Astrid, she looked at me and smiled. We proceeded directly into the elevator and Astrid reached the highest floor of this building. “Hanna and Dylan live in the penthouse.” We quickly reached the floor we were going to and the second time if Christine hadn’t called me, I wouldn’t have noticed that we were here. Arriving at the front door of the penthouse, it was Astrid who rang the doorbell. The second Astrid pressed the doorbell, someone opened the door from the inside and Hanna’s big brother, Dylan, appeared. “Astrid, ma’am Christine?” Dylan called out to the in surprise until his eyes landed on me. “M-Ma’am Celine.” I think Dylan calling our names was his way of greeting us. “Is Hanna here? Ma’am Celine wants to talk to her.” Astrid said immediately. “Hanna is in her room,” Dylan said as he opened the door wide. “Come in first.” “That should be the first thing you do.” Astrid commented that the three of them just laughed. For the moment we entered the living room, Dylan called Hanna on the second floor. Not long after, they were coming down together. “By the way, do you want something to eat or drink? Water, juice, wine, tea?” Dylan offered us. “No thanks. We will also leave immediately.” I heard Astrid’s answer. For the time being, my gaze fell on Hanna. I didn’t take it off until she got close to me. “Ma’am Celine, my brother said that you want to talk to me?” Hanna asked me in her polite way. “Are you having an affair with Lance?” I asked frank. I haven’t even thought about how to ask this matter. All I want to know is the truth. Last night, I couldn’t imagine what could be Lance’s reason for wanting a divorce. Lance needs a wife to keep him in his position as mafia boss of their clan. That was one of Lance’s family rules. Without a wife, someone can acquire the position Lance maintains in the underground. That’s why Lance needs me as his wife, as his display. “What the fuck!?” Dylan’s spontaneous reaction. “Hanna, answer her question right fucking now!” My question surprised even Christine and Astrid, and Hanna’s widened eyes and reaction showed that she was also surprised by it. “N-No, ma’am.” Hanna stammered and then looked at her brother. “I am not a mistress of anyone, for god’s sake.” Hanna looked back at me. “I don’t have an affair with any man who has a husband or anyone. I am so single right now.” “Why did you stutter at your first answer?” I asked again. “Because your out of nowhere question surprised me, Ma’am,” she immediately explained. It’s true. The reason for her stuttering is valid and Hanna seems to tell the truth. From the moment I married Lance, Hanna never came between me and Lance under any circumstances. “Are all your answers true, Hanna?” his older brother asked Hanna. “Of course. Every word I uttered is true.” Hanna defends herself. “Then we will go ahead. Thank you for your honest answer, Hanna,” I said. “I hope Lance doesn’t get to know about this.” “Of course, ma’am. I won’t say anything to Lance–to boss Lance.” I looked at Dylan and was going to ask him not to tell Lance about my coming here, but Astrid was ahead of me. “As for you, Dylan, don’t talk about it to Lance.” “Yeah! Yeah, I would think it never happened.” Dylan replied to Astrid. “Good.” Astrid approved of Dylan’s answer. I again said goodbye and thanked Dylan and Hanna, also apologized to them again. “It’s fine ma’am.” Hanna answered me with a sweet smile. While we were walking out, I waited for Hanna to call me to ask about what I asked her, most of all I waited for Hanna to ask about what was happening with me and Lance, but until we got out of their penthouse, I didn’t hear any questions from Hanna. Here I proved that Hanna had no intention of intervening between Lance and me. Hanna, one of Lance’s best friends, is not the one that Lance is having an affair with. So what is Lance’s reason or who is the reason Lance wants to divorce me?CELINE POV-I looked over at Starr, just catching her eye. She was happily eating her buttered chicken, seeming to really enjoy it.My eyes welled up with tears again because of her situation, and I couldn’t help but blame myself for everything she was going through. The weight of guilt pressed down on me, knowing that my choices had led her to this difficult and painful experience. If only I had thought better then this wouldn’t have happened.“Celine,”I turned my gaze back to Bianca, waiting for her to continue.“I don’t care if you believe me or not but you have to trust me this time.”“And that’s the one thing, the only thing, I can’t just give you without a second thought,” I admitted, with utter honesty.“I understand, but in this situation, please consider it carefully. Okay, don’t trust me, but place your trust in your daughter.”I quietly listened to what she would say next, focusing all my attention on her words.“It’s been months since I first pointed out the exit from th
CELINE POV-I took a moment to process her words, and my initial reaction was a derisive chuckle.“You?” I asked under my breath, dripping with sarcasm. “Will help us escape? Do you even hear yourself, or have you conveniently forgotten what you did to me—to me and my child?”Since I was the only one in front of her, I saw her secretly glance in the direction of the person guarding us.Looking back at me, he abruptly seized what I had in my hands and stated firmly, “I am the one who will prepare Starr’s food. She doesn’t trust you, she even don’t want to see you, so don’t waste your time.”Her words cut deep because of their truth. Yet, her loud delivery wasn’t just to hammer that truth home; it felt like a mask for another, unacknowledged reason that eluded me.She turned and walked away from me, heading towards the stove.I barely closed the fridge before my eyes flicked to my daughter. She was looking at me with an innocent expression, but transferred her attention to Bianca, almo
CELINE POV-I reluctantly agreed to Lucian’s answer. It was better for Starr to be left out of this, to give her the best chance of avoiding harm. I needed to find a way to escape and ensure my daughter’s safety.Leaving Starr here is not an option. My priority is to ensure that, before Lucian tries to take me, either she is far away from this place, or Lance is aware of her existence and can protect her.The next day, he remained true to his word to me. When he left this house, Bianca came again with my daughter.“Starr!” I called happily and tearfully.I quickly matched her height and hugged her tightly, enough to make me feel how much I missed her.“Let me go!” Starr snapped at me.Even though I wanted to hug her longer, I preferred to break away from the hug than to make her angry at me more. As I released my daughter from the hug, I noticed she was tightly gripping the four fingers Bianca’s small hand could hold.“Sweetheart, I’m not a bad person. I won’t hurt your Mummy Bianc
CELINE POV-It’s been two long nights since I’ve been able to see, hug, and talk to Starr.Ever since I lost her again, I can’t bring myself to eat. I can’t even drink water. My mind is consumed by worry and I can’t find peace.Despite Bianca’s seemingly good care of Starr, my anxiety won’t ease until I see with my own eyes my child, long separated from me—the child Lance and I share, who is not in our custody.I’m sitting on the bed now, staring at the door waiting for Lucian to come. This is the first time I’ve ever waited and hoped so desperately for him to return quickly, so we can discuss Starr. It’s been dark outside for a few hours, I’m not sure what time it is exactly but he should be here by now.I got out of bed and looked out the window overlooking the vast ocean.“Hon.”Hearing that voice inside me I immediately felt angry. I didn’t let it surface, but swallowed the rage instead. The moment I turned to look at Lucian, I went straight to him.“It seems you missed me this t
CELINE POV-Slowly, I released Starr from my embrace, gazing at her face before pulling her back into a hug for a few precious seconds. Then, after a brief pause, I drew back, looked at her once more, and then embraced her again.I longed to truly see her, to embrace her with all my heart, but above all, I yearned to share my life with her – to belong with her, with Lance, and with her beloved siblings, Skye and Sunny, as one family. “Mummy...”I pulled away from the hug and looked at her, “Yes, sweetheart?”“When we go outside, will Mummy Bianca be there too?”I gave Bianca a quick glance. She was looking at me too, not smiling nor angry, she’s giving me a straight face look.I can’t trust her, not after finding out she and Lucian were in cahoots, deliberately hiding Starr from me, from us I refocused my attention on Starr. “Let’s sit on the bed for a moment,” I suggested, subtly redirecting the conversation."I didn’t want to lie to Starr, I couldn’t say I didn’t trust Bianca. Sh
CELINE POV-As I looked into my daughter’s blue eyes, ather face, memories came flooding back from when I was pregnant with my triplets, when I gave birth to them, and every day I spent with Skye and Sunny.A montage played in my head: the monthly celebrations during Skye and Sunny’s first year, their birthdays every year since, their first crawls and steps, their first bites of solid food, every holiday, every special day, my and Lance’s children’s first days at school, our move to Lance’s mansion promising never to leave him again, right up to Skye and Sunny’s recent birthday.. All the celebrations we celebrated, every day I spent with Skye and Sunny—all of these came to mind with Starr. With each step I took, my gaze locked on Starr’s blue eyes, a tear falling with every stride. As I stepped forward again, she continued to hold my gaze until I was standing right in front of her.Sitting across from her, trying to meet her gaze at her height, my tears receded. I followed her move
