Chapter 2
Oliver’s POV “She graduated as Summa Cum Laude with the course of Business Management,” a smirk quickly drew beside my lips when I heard that information. Business Management, huh? That's the usual course of all the assassins and gangsters in this world. Well, mostly, the heirs and heiress. Probably, it is to prepare them in handling the business of their clans. But hell, she was the Summa Cum Laude. That is hard to achieve. “Where did she study?” The more I got to know about her, the more she piqued my interest. “Harvard,” my lips parted with amusement. “She's really something,” I muttered. “Their business is furniture. They are designing and making one. But right now, it's not in good condition either,” Jaylor’s face crumpled when he mentioned that. This damn man is my second hand. I could trust him more than trusting Otis—who is my brother. “She’s handling that now. Also, she's a good shooter—like you, she's also good at using daggers and swords. She does boxing, black belter in karate, she's good at car racing and motorbike racing, too—is there anything that she's not good at?” He frowned and shook his head. He just got tired reading everything that Adira can do. I can't help but be amazed by her. I stared at her photos that I asked Jaylor to get. All her photos are savage and it is the definition of perfection. Her beauty is dangerous. She's not doing anything yet, but I knew that I was being captured by her already, especially with how I witnessed her fighting and defending her clan. “Why are you smiling like that, huh?” I erased that freaking smile and cleared my throat immediately. “I know that smile of yours, Oliver. Don't tell me you like her? Damn, dude! You have to kill that woman! That's the mission, remember?” I glared at him before I moved my eyes away. Damn. I hate myself. Pull yourself back together, Oliver! Adira Dawn Sanchez is the target. You have to kill her in order to erase their clan. “Unless you want Otis to inherit everything,” he really knows how to pull me back together. “As if,” I replied. “I'm not gonna lose over him, Jay. I won't fail this mission anymore,” I know that I must not fail this, but my fucking heart tells me the opposite! Of all people, why does it have to be Adira? Why now that I was captivated by her in one glance? “So, what are you planning? What will you do to accomplish the mission? I'm sure Otis is already doing something,” I know right. Otis is competitive. He won't waste any time, especially now that the reward is to lead our clan. My pride wouldn't be able to bear Otis as the leader. “I'm still thinking. That's why I told you to do research about her. I must know something about her before I plan everything,” I heaved a heavy sigh before putting all her photos back inside the brown envelope. I should not look at it anymore or else, I would really be in danger. “Excuse me, Sir Oliver. Your father called, he told me to tell you to go to your house.” My secretary intervened. My brows crossed immediately while Jay just whistled. What is it this time? “As in now?” She hates to nod, but she did. I scratched the back of my head before I grabbed my coat behind my swivel chair. Damn it. I'm too lazy to do another mission, but I cannot let Otis win at the same time. “Tell me more about her. I'll come back immediately,” I told Jay before I marched out of my company. I rode my Mustang as I drove to our house. Otis has his own house, and I don't have mine. Well, I could have one anytime. But I prefer a condominium instead of a house where I would be alone with the maids and guards. I could imagine how lonely and boring it is. Perhaps when I find someone to marry, then I'll have my own house. “My dearest brother,” I was expecting to see Otis here already. I still hate to see his damn face. Only if we are not blood related, I would definitely destroy that face. “Happy to see me?” I flashed a tiny smile. “Not even a bit,” he replied. “Do you think you can handle the mission? You know, you failed your last,” he acted like he was saddened, when the truth is he was actually in joy. “Is that the only thing you got towards me?” I yawned. “Oh, sorry. My ears are bleeding,” I made sure to wear the most annoying smile that I could show him before I simply tapped his arm. “Learn to talk less, Otis.” I turned my back at him before that smile on my lips faded. “Oliver, Otis! I finally got to see the two of you,” our mother first welcomed us again with a simple hug. “Hi, Mom.” I greeted. “You two are so hard to find nowadays,” she shook her head disappointedly. “I'm busy, Mom. I'm not just sure with Oliver,” I saw how her smile dropped. Otis really knows how to ruin every scene. “Why did you call us, Dad?” I chose to ignore his immaturity. I will not waste my time talking to my arrogant brother. “Well,” he paused and put down the newspaper he was reading. “Vanessa Delfin was killed,” “By who?” Otis asked. “Guess,” “Adira,” I said. I don't know if I really think it's her or I was just thinking so much about her. “Exactly,” a smile flashed on his face and I knew that it annoyed Otis. “She's the heiress of Delfin. Yesterday, she was the one who attacked the Sanchez. Unluckily, Vanessa’s brain is narrow, she doesn't think out of the box. You cannot win over the fierce and sharp Adira like that,” he let out a chuckle and shook his head. “Is that the only reason why you called us?” Otis seems to be bored already. “I told you that to remind you not to belittle Adira. Their clan might be falling, but she is not as weak as you are thinking. Because if she is, why would they still exist in the Mafia world, right?” “We got that, Dad. I'm already planning my first move,” Otis mentioned. Dad now shifted his eyes at me. “I'm doing the same,” I replied. I heard Otis chuckled, mocking me again. After that very short conversation, our father dismissed us immediately. “Do you really have a plan?” I shut my eyes firmly when I heard Otis behind me again before I could even leave. “Aren't you tired of yourself?” Because I'm so tired of him. “I mean, I know you, Oliver. Just admit it, you don't know what to do yet.” When that arrogant smirk was painted on his lips again, I was dying to erase it with knife. “It’s not your business,” I gave him my blank eyes already. “May the best man win,” he tapped my shoulder, just like what I did to him earlier. I clenched my jaw before I left the mansion as well and came back to my company. “You're pissed,” Jay commented when I sat on my swivel chair. “Who would not be? Seeing Otis' face can upset me already,” I still want to punch his face right now. “I have news,” I threw my gaze at him. He removed the lollipop inside his mouth before he looked at me. “Adira is looking for a private bodyguard,” when the deafening silence invaded the two of us, I knew that we were thinking the same thing. “I should apply, then.” A tiny smirk played upon my face. The mission is just about to begin. I must be the one to kill Adira Sanchez, not Otis, not the other clans, but me. itsclarixassChapter 3Adira’s POV “What if I hire you as my personal bodyguard?” I asked, trying to make a great deal with Louis right here. His brows arched before he quickly shook his head, declining my offer without even giving it a thought. I rolled my eyes at him and lost my hope. “I'm the head of you people, Ms. Sanchez. Besides, your father won't agree, you know that well.” My face crumpled as I frowned. “I just can't trust anyone,” yeah, I have trust issues now and they cannot blame me for that. My father was betrayed and as a result, our clan is at its lowest point. Second, there have been a lot of spies lingering around us. It would be hard for me to hire someone and trust him. What if he is just acting up until he gets my trust and then, viola, he would eventually attack as, too. “Adira, we will make sure that whoever you will hire is qualified and trustworthy. I got you,” he winked at me as if he was telling me that I can trust whoever he will find for me. “Hey, the applicants
Chapter 4I was taking huge steps as I marched out of there. I headed to the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of water and drank it at once as if I hadn't drunk water for a week. “Woah, are you upset?” Ace asked when I crumpled the bottle while chasing my breathing. “How can't she? That guy defeated her. Take note, he's an ordinary guy and yet she lose ove hi—”“I can also cut your tongue, Louis.” He lost all his words when I threw my gaze at him, giving him my deadly eyes. “Chill. Maybe he's just really good. Besides, that's a good thing. You want a stronger bodyguard, right?” Whatever Ace tells me to make me feel better, I just can't accept the fact that I lost over that guy. My pride is fucking shrinking! “Tell me about him,” now, he captured my interest towards him. “Well, his name is Chase Montereal. He's the same age as you and he worked as a Manager of a restaurant before. That's all I gathered,” Louis said as he simply shrugged. “What? He doesn't have any background in fighting
Chapter 5“The Coraldes are behind it. I'm sure of it,” Ace said while we were in a meeting. I was only staring at the presentation in front, sitting calmly on my swivel chair, while we were discussing and planning the things that will help us to go back on our own feet.“We have a budget to cover the damages of the company,” Louis added. A small smirk drew beside my lips. I quickly shook my head, disagreeing about that. “We're not going to pay for it,” I said firmly. Now, all their eyes were glued at me. “What are you planning?” Ace knows me very well. He didn't have to ask what I exactly mean as he knows that I have a different plan. “The Coraldes will pay for it. Three million is enough,” my brows raised as I glanced at the pictures of our company. It was a total mess and damaged when the attack happened. “Idiots,” I muttered. “They really thought that I was there?” I chuckled unbelievably. “They want your head. What do you expect? Of course they will do everything to kill
Chapter 6“Fix it. When I come back, I want it done as if nothing happened.” I said clearly to Ace. He's the one helping me in handling our business. “Got it,” he winked, before getting the money we got from the Coraldes. “Fuck, the blood stinks.” Louis commented, disgusted to me. I rolled my eyes at him before I glanced at Chase outside, washing his hand. “He did his job very well,” Louis commented when he noticed that I was looking at him.“He didn't,” I replied. “I told him not to protect me.”Louis chuckled. “Are you crazy? He's your bodyguard, in case you forget.” “And I am his boss. He does what I say,” I said and turned my back from him. I grabbed the alcohol and the first aid kit before I headed towards his direction. He was washing his hands while his face remained blank. Is he fucking numb? How can't he feel any pain?“Adi—”“FUCK!” He exclaimed in surprise, when I poured the alcohol on his hand. Now, I finally saw pain from his face unlike earlier. “At least I know t
Chapter 7“It is included in the rule that they cannot kill someone, unless it is their opponent in the battle.” Ace read aloud the rules that are attached to the invitation that I received. “I won't die, Ace.” I simply replied, sounding bored and not even worried. Why would I get worried? I know that I can defeat whoever would be my opponent. “Adira, we still have choices to raise your clan. Let's not take this risk and put your life on the edge,” I quickly chuckled when Louis said that. It was like a joke to me. “Are you serious? Since the day we were born in this kind of life, our lives are already on the edge of death,” I shook my head to the two of them. They both turned silent as they knew that I was telling the truth. “How about your father? He won't allow you,” Louis is still pushing me not to go.“That's right. I'm sure Dad won't agree with this,” Ace added. They are both trying to convince me not to go.“He doesn't have to know,” I replied. “He's out of this. This is my
Chapter 8“OUCH! WHAT THE HELL?!” Ace creamed deafeningly after I kicked his stomach. I was covered with sweat under the rays of the sun from above, chasing my breath. We are in the garden, doing training. I have to work myself out with the upcoming Mask Battle. “I am your brother!” He exclaimed again, still lying down on the ground, with his hand placed on his stomach. His face was crumpled, greeting his teeth simultaneously. “I got carried away,” I replied as I grabbed the bottled water on the table. I sat there for a while and hid from the sun. “Really? Look at Nathan,” Louis commented and showed me Nathan's face. I bit my lower lip and shrugged. “I was sure that my fist landed gently.” “It surely didn't,” Nathan uttered. “I have to train myself harder. As you said, that battle is not easy. Whoever would be my opponent, I have to win no matter what if I still want to live.” That battle should never be my death. “I give up. I don't want to be your punching bag for your prep
Chapter 9For a moment, I felt like I was dying when I forgot how to breathe. My eyes were pinned on Chase who was half-naked in front of me. The water was still dripping down from his soaked hair, down to his well-built body. We have a huge space between us, but I could smell his manly and addictive scent, fresh from the bath. To be honest, he looks so clean and fresh. I don't know if it is because he is still soaked from taking a shower, the reason why his entire body was sparkling in my eyes, or he is naturally like this. “U-Uhm…” I crumpled my hands when I stuttered. All my words vanished and I could not find any to tell him. I could not imagine what I look like right now; I regret barging in. “The training…we should start now,” I quickly looked away from him. When I did, I felt like I suddenly remembered how to breathe properly. I bit my lower lip in secrecy while I could feel my chest throbbing.“Oh, yeah. I was just preparing. Do you want to wait here? I will just dress up
Chapter 10My training with Chase continued in the next few days. I could say that I was getting better and Chase is always commending me with that. He taught me some of the things I could do to escape a hopeless situation. “Blood,” I muttered, after we were both able to hurt each other with the daggers. I left a cut on his cheek, and he did the same thing. But then, I am aware that it was not intentional. I could easily tell that he did that accidentally, based on his surprised face right now. I felt a glimpse of pain, but I did not mind. “I'm sorry,” the dagger fell from his grip. My lips parted when he moved so fast and ate the space between us just to wipe the blood on my cheek. “What are you doing?” My eyes widened when he removed his shirt. Before I could even complain again, I felt its cloth on my bruise as he started to wipe the blood very gently.I was stunned once again. My eyes were glued at him, watching him do that. His eyes look concerned as if I am so important to h
Chapter 30“I'm not marrying you,” I didn't know how I managed to look at him when I said those hurtful words. While staring at him, watching how he reacts, my heart was breaking into pieces. “I'm sorry, Otis.” That's all I could say. I don't want to break his heart, but I don't want to marry him, start a family with him, only to be lonely and lie to myself about what I really feel. “I don't want to live in regrets, Otis.” I looked away. “If I marry you, I'm sure that you will be a good husband. I already pictured you, treating me very well. But I also realized, what would I feel when that happens? Would I be happy in one roof with you? Perhaps, not… Because I do not feel anything for you, Otis. I love you, but as a friend.” “You'll learn to love me,” he said with strong desperation and determination. I could see pain running from his eyes but I can also see that he doesn't want to let me go that easily. “And if I don't?” I was killing myself every time I turned him down. “I don
Chapter 29It was our last day in Pangasinan. As we spent our last night in the hotel, we decided to watch a movie together with lots of food. This time, I didn't let him cook. Instead, we just ordered. “I have a favor to ask you,” I uttered in the middle of the movie. His brows raised but his eyes remained on the television in front of us. He was indeed having fun with the movie that we are watching. “What is it?” He asked, while eating the chips. “Can we keep this a secret?” The moment I mentioned that, I captured his eyes immediately. His eyes turned at me and I saw questions that filled his eyes. Perhaps, he was confused why I wanted to hide our relationship. “Why? Do you plan to marry Otis?” He chuckled, still taking everything as a joke. “Of course not,” I heaved a sigh. “I just want to hide this from them first. You know, I haven't had a boyfriend before and I don't want to shock them. Besides, I have to talk to Otis first and clarify all the things,” I explained. I bit m
Chapter 28I kissed him without any hesitation. It might be reckless of me, but I didn't care anymore. The moment I reached his lips beyond his tall height, I didn't think of anything. I disregard everything that matters. I disregard all my responsibilities in my hands. I only allowed myself to feel that moment—to enjoy that moment as we both shared another passionate kiss. I could not hear anything. I feel like we were deaf and we vanished from our worlds. I can't hear anything except from the loud beating of my chest. It happened so fast. I just found myself drowning from that kiss. My hands were wrapped on his nape and his hands were exploring my body simultaneously. “C-Chase,” I moaned. In a blink of an eye, I felt how he removed my bra as if it was just a piece of cake to him. I could say that he was an expert on these things. “Ohhh…” I kept moaning like an idiot. My eyes were closed with the sensation that was filling my system. I felt the cold wall as Chase pinned me there
Chapter 27Dawn. What is special with my second name? People usually hate their second names because it's ugly. As for me, I hate it for a reason. I despise it for a reason. I was born at dawn, and my mother died at dawn. After her death, it's like the world took me the beauty of dawn to the point that I don't wanna see it anymore. “Dawn,” but what is this that I am feeling everytime Chase calls me by that name? Why is my chest pounding as if he erased the cruel history I had? It was like music to my ears. Everytime he utters it, it makes me forget everything—the pain. “Stop it,” I muttered and smirked. I came back staring at the sea as I heaved a heavy sigh. “What? It's a beautiful name, just like you.” My cheeks burned when he said that naturally as if there was nothing wrong to say it in front of me. “What is it that you like about me, Chase?” I suddenly got curious about that. I don't see anything special to me for him to fall for me. I'm just the heiress of the Sanchez, tryi
Chapter 26I set up the table in silence. Chase was not talking as well after he told me not to marry Otis. I can feel the awkwardness that was invading the two of us. He served the food he cooked at the table and we started to eat together without saying a single word. We were crossing each other and looking away so fast. “Is it bad?” I was stunned when he finally broke the ice. I thought he's not gonna talk to me anymore. “Did I say that it's bad?” I sounded grumpy with that. I avoided his eyes to get rid of my conscience. “Look, I don't want you to feel like I am obliging you to like me, okay? I don't need you to give me an answer, too. If you will marry Otis, then I will accept it with all my hea—”“Shit, your saying a lot.” I complaint as I stood up since I'm done eating already. “I'm not marrying him,” I left him that answer before I started to clean some of the dishes. I couldn't help but to flash a huge smile when I saw how he was glued on his seat there as if he was still
Chapter 25It was a very passionate kiss. I never flew over the moon, but I felt like I was flying around the world when I felt Chase invading my lips. “C-Chase,” I moaned when he sucked my lips and I felt his hands travelling around my body while I was pinned on the wall. I could not tell him to stop, because I know that if I do that, I will kill myself. My eyes remained closed and I felt like I lost all my strength with my legs trembling already. Beyond the air conditioner installed in the entire hotel room, I suddenly felt so hot. In every touch of his body and skin on my body, I am losing my mind; and in every movement of his tongue and lips, I am losing my soul. “W-What… are we doing?” I managed to utter despite the feeling of losing myself already. I felt so lost in the woods but wanting to be lost at the same time. He stopped, and that was when I opened my eyes. Our eyes met immediately, and I knew that those seducing stares were melting me away. His forehead landed on mine
Chapter 24“I'm kidnapping you!” My jaw dropped when he said that and drove the car so fast. He's what?“Stop this now, Chase! You don't know what you're doing! Otis is waiting for me!” I keep shouting at him but no matter what I say and do, Chase has made his decision and it cannot be shaken. He didn't listen to me until I lost my hope and chose to be silent in the backseat. “They will look for me,” I uttered behind him. I don't know if I want this to happen or not. For some reason, I felt like staying there and being kidnapped by him is the good option to escape all of this. “Where are we going? Answer me, Chase!” I hit the back of his seat again but he remained unbothered. He really treated me like a damn wind until we arrived at our destination that I don't know. I fell asleep on the way. When I woke up, I heard the roaring of the sea. My lips immediately parted when I saw the sea outside. I found Chase sitting in front of the car while watching the water. “Chase!” I exclaim
Chapter 23I had already accepted my fate. Every night, I am trying to picture myself marrying Otis and starting a family with him. I know to myself that my heart is against it, but I have left with no choice. “You're meeting his family tonight?” Louis asked while we were in the middle of eating our breakfast.“Tell me if you need anything,” Ace said beside me, still worried about me. Weeks have passed and he's finally here with us. Dad didn't notice any bruises or wounds from him. He didn't know anything about what really happened. “I'm sure they will like you. Besides, you and Otis have been hanging out. Do you have feelings for him now?” I hate to ruin that huge smile from my father's smile. He looks so happy just by hearing about my upcoming wedding with Otis. How can I mess it up when he is this happy? “Not yet,” I moved my eyes away. I don't want him to see how much I am forced to do this. “Well, when you are married, you will learn to love each other.” I hope that is how i
Chapter 22Chase’s POV “Oliver, calm down! You can't just come here like this!” Jaylor kept calling me while I was taking huge steps, entering the building of Otis’ condominium.“Open the goddamn door, Otis!” I growled like a beast while I was slamming the door really hard. If he doesn't open this yet, I will probably break this. “You're making a scene, Oliver!” Jaylor exclaimed, but I was too deaf to hear him out. “OTIS!” The door opened and I finally saw my damn twin brother. His brows met when he saw me outside.“What do you need?” He asked coldly. “You,” “OLIVER!”I quickly threw a punch at him as I barged inside his condo. His eyes became sharp after what I did. “What the fuck is your problem?!” Before he could even punch me back, I punched him again, making his lips drip red fluid even more.I grabbed his collar as I pinned him on the wall. “Why did you ask her to marry you, huh?! What the fuck are you thinking?!” I was fuming mad. I could not even tame the beast inside
