In the beginning, the Gods ruled the world up high on Mount Olympus. They were the Greek gods that everyone knew, loved, and feared. Zeus was the all-powerful king of the Gods, the one that tamed, ended, the titans including his father. He was the most loved and feared. When he was angry, he would throw lightning bolt just to calm himself down. Hera, his queen, was always by his side. Her beauty was unrivaled. She was by far the calmer of the two but had a dislike of the mortals due to Zeus’ philandering ways. The two of them often looked down on the mortals. Each having their own thoughts about how they lived. Zeus with amusement and Hera with contempt.
It was a normal day in the life of the gods. They all gathered together for a celebration. It wasn’t a special occasion. Zeus just wanted to gather all his immortal children together along with his brothers. Poseidon being the youngest of the three was the first one to show up on Olympus with his trident. The other gods and goddesses began to appear. The last to show were the Fates and Hades. Hades had a scowl on his face. This unnecessary party was something he hated having to be apart of.
The Fates understood the reason why Hades disliked these gatherings. Life and death never stopped. They all had their part in bringing the mortals into the world and out to the underworld. It was there at that party that Atropos had the unnatural vision. It was the first she’s ever had of the Gods, even worse of them wanting to mingle with those they deemed nothing more than entertainment. With that knowledge about the time the Gods would want to one day come down from Olympus and be amongst the mortals and something strange would happen to those that did.
Atropos being the oldest sister that seen their future, her black iris nearly matching her dark skin tone. Decided to speak with Lachesis and Clotho, pulling them aside and out of earshot from the others. She wanted to discuss this and about a plan for when this transgression was to take place. The Fates decided to open up a college, in a place just outside of a bustling city. This would be the place that each and every one of them could mix and mingle with those of the land. With their plan in place, they started to wait out for the time to come.
Lachesis with her green eyes, auburn waves, and olive skin, looked at her two sisters with apprehension. She was not sure when this would take place but trust that Atropos would make sure they all would use the time they had on land wisely. Clotho with her blue eyes, blond hair and pale skin was the one that looked more innocent like than the others. She held their hands, squeezing them tightly. To a mortal, to see them they would not resemble sisters but to see any of the gods would be to look upon a melting pot of tones and hues.
It was several Millennia before Zeus finally had the idea to take the Gods of Olympus and mingle amongst those that have forgotten them. Zeus called for the Moiria to show him the way. Atropos was the first to walk up to the dais. Followed by Lachesis and then lastly, Clotho. They each stood before him. The younger two gave him a bow, while Atropos looked at him sullenly.
“If you wish to know where we must all settle down for your whim, I can tell you. You would also need to be with those still finding themselves it would be best to be with the youth, they are the most impressionable and would help regain your following. But you must know that not every god can come off Olympus. It would leave it open to be claimed by Hades.”
“Yes, of course. Where should we settle.”
It was Lachesis that spoke next, “Atropos will warn you that only 10 Gods can go with you so you must choose wisely.”
“Sure, of course. Only 10 gods. Where will we go?” Zeus was becoming angry at the Fates as they refused to answer his question.
Clotho measured out a string signifying a set time frame. “In order for this to succeed you will need to come back to Olympus every 10 years. 10 years on earth and 10 years on Olympus.”
“FINE! WHATEVER YOU SAY. NOW TELL ME WHERE WE WILL GO?”
Atropos narrowed her eyes. “Temper, temper… father. Patience isn’t one of your strong points same as keeping it in your pants.” She crossed her arms and held a smile on her lips. “The place you and the other 6 gods will go will be here in this place.” She pointed to a place that they all have seen.
“What?! What do you mean 6 gods I am allowed 10!”
They answered together. “The 10 includes yourself and we three. That leaves 6.”
Atropos took it a step further, “One plus three equals four. Four minus 10 leaves 6.”
“You can’t come. I forbid it.”
“Forbid you cannot. Without our guidance the campus will fail and so will the fraternities and sororities we will set up in your honor.” Not to mention the horrible act that will befall on you she thought to herself.
Zeus hated when he couldn’t have his way. He clicked his tongue like a petulant child. “Whatever. Where will we set up campus?”
“I just showed you. Here on the outskirts of New Orleans. The city itself is full of life and full of mystery and intrigue. We will blend in well in this area.”
“We leave in the morning.”
“No, we can’t leave in the morning. We need to make sure that we have all that we need. Such as new names, legal documentation, correct clothing. And one other thing a campus so the fraternities can be established. Without those again it will fail.”
Lachesis and Clotho were aware of all the disaster waiting for the gods if they didn’t do everything by the book. Those three already had made the arrangement for their own integration into society. It was now time to get the other gods ready.
“Before we leave dear father, you need to decide on the gods that will go for the first ten years and the ones that will go when you return. That is if you return.”
“Atropos if you mean to threaten me then I will banish you to the underworld.”
“A threat it may be, but banishment you cannot. Without me who would warn you of the future that will inevitably take place. So, banish me. I DARE you to.” She stepped closer to him wanting him to carry out his tantrum.
Once more Zeus turned away and clicked his tongue. Such a powerful man of the gods but he could not win against the fates. They are one although they are three. The past future and present cannot exist without each other. Taking away one would only hinder the others. “Fine. Do as you please. I will choose the gods that go. After the 10 years will it need to be 6 once more or 10?”
“No, it will be 7. We cannot leave them here alone.”
Zeus stopped speaking and waved them away to ruminate on who he would bring with them. The Fates bowed to leave. Atropos turned back once more, her thick raven curls bouncing against her bare shoulders, and gave him words of advice. “Be wary of going out on full moons, lest you want to be turned.”
She left the hall of the gods behind her. Zeus eyebrows were knitted together. Her words confused him for a moment but he dismissed her warning with a snort. He was the, all power king of the god’s nothing could terrify him no one would turn him as she said. He had more important things to worry about and not her silly little warning. Atropos knew just what would happen and knew that he would not heed her warning. It was no use warning an arrogant, narcissistic man such as him. The Moiria, just hoped that the gods would not die from this new development.
In three days, they were summoned back to the Hall. Before them stood the seven gods that would go together to New Orleans. They were going in pairs. Zeus and Hera, Apollo and Aphrodite; and lastly Hermes, Hephaestus, and Artemis. The three fates looked at each other and just knew that Hera would not have let Zeus leave her behind in Olympus to father more bastard demi-gods. Lachesis stepped up and handed them the papers they would need. She had a soft voice when she spoke. “With you going in pairs such as this you will stay with a fate of your choice. This will only be for a year, until you have gotten settled in the mortal world. We have taken the liberty to acquire the land that would be needed for the university along with making sure that it has been up and running for several decades. The University of Southern Scholars is an accredited school with over thousands of students applying and graduating from there.”
Clotho was the next one to step up and speak. “We have also established what is called Greek Row. It is a place where likeminded individuals bond to create a brotherhood or sisterhood with people that are of different backgrounds. Now when you each go there you will be a part of a house that is dedicated to you. Please do your best to not enhance their natural attractions to their houses. It would not be good if the school is shut down due to sexual exploitation, violence, anger, or narcissism.” She paused to look out at each one of them. “We have done our best to have you and the other gods all prepared for this day.”
The two sisters looked back to Atropos; they knew she had something to say to them. Instead of addressing all of the gods she looked only to Zeus. Her eyes were narrowed as if they held disdain. But they all needed to be warned and take heed. “If you fail to listen to the warning about going out on full moons everything you know will cease to exist. You will not be welcomed back on Mount Olympus. You will have to find a home elsewhere. A home out in the dense forest surrounded by others like you. You will not be in charge but you will have to obey someone else. Listen to what we tell you. Any alterations to your DNA will subsequently alter the rest of us as well. Do listen to someone else for a change.”
The Fates turned to leave; the gods weren’t sure what she was speaking of but somewhere in Hera’s heart she understood. If some horrific thing was to happen to Zeus, they all would be changed and never could return back to their home. She made it her mission to do whatever she could to keep him from falling into a desperate situation. Even if it means tethering herself to him at all times.
Zeus had Poseidon take the lead over Olympus during their tenure away. He placed his hand on his little brother shoulder. “Make sure Hades doesn’t take over.”
“He’s too busy in the underworld. He wont come up here. When was the last time he came up to a celebration.”
“Even so, we both know as the oldest, he could very well lay claim to my throne.”
“What makes you think that I wont?”
“You have your sea to look after.”
“Good point dear brother. See you in ten years.”
The two hugged each other for the first and last time for the next ten years. Maybe.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOLIt was a few weeks before school was about to start. The Fates had settled into their apartment of campus well they were going by new names for their time in the mortal realm. Cleo, Lakeisha, and Andromeda Moiria. Their apartment was fashioned in a typical college dwelling but they each had their own room. Cleo was the youngest, bright and bubbly, her room had a hint of a princess feel to it, almost a child like quality. Lakeisha being the middle sister, slightly mature and kind, her room was sophisticated with a girly feel. Andr
The young man raised his hands in the air then looked at Andi. “If she had a problem with it she would’ve said so, right Cheré?”Her mouth had gone dry, he made her speechless. Not only was her heart steadily picking up speed but her mouth failed to listen to her brain until she felt a shove in her back. “Ah. Yes. You’re right. I should thank you for keeping me from falling.”Cleo and Lakeshia chimed in at the same time. “yes, she would like to thank you by asking you out on a date!”
Andi got to her first class seconds before the professor closed the door. She looked behind her to see two other students right behind her be locked out. She knew what type of professor he was. Cleo waved her over to an empty seat. Andi walked past Jupiter and Juno sitting near there front of the class. He tried to reach out to grab her and have her sit near him. Before he could she moved her hand away taking her seat next to her sister. She could feel the electricity crackling around them. She looked at her sisters wondering why he was so adamant about trying to control them, her in particular. The professor stood in front of the class and begin to give his semester speech. What he expected of his students and what he would not
Andi had gone down to Bourbon Street. It looked less lively in the daytime than the bustling rapture at night. It felt like a different world. She walked around for a time before going into a daiquiri shop. She never was one to partake in alcohol even when all the gods would gather for their needs of celebration. The most amazing ale could rival the strongest spirit, vodka. The different flavors lined the counters in slushie machines. She knew her sisters would love to come to a place like this. She stood off to the side as she weighed her options. The appeal of a virgin drink was strong, increasingly strong, and predictable. Today, of all days she wanted to shed the mean goth girl image she undoubtedly sustained the year prior coming to get the ball rollin
Jace opened the door for her. His lips pressed around the straw of his drink. He watched how her expressions changed only slightly. It was barely noticeable but he caught on to it. He allowed her to walk out in front of him. Then ended up allowing another couple to go in. He was about to let go when a few more people showed up to go in the shop. He sighed softly as he watched Andi get further away from him. Andi had gotten just a few feet away from him when she noticed she didn’t feel his presence. When she looked back she seen he was still holding the door open. It made her smile seeing that there were chivalrous men in this time. Most gods in the olden days did as they pleased. They took the goddesses as they saw fit and the mortals by force. Think
Corrine didn’t like the way he hung up on her. He never once did that to her before. It made her angry. Her inner she-wolf snarled in agreement with her discontent at his actions. His wolf belonged to her and only her, no one else. There was more she needed to say. The fact that this Andi Moiria just popped up out of no where was cause for concern. She may love him with all her heart but he is her best friend first and foremost. No random or ridiculously bitchy woman could take that away from her. She knew she had to continue digging into her and her weird sisters. None of them looked alike except around the eyes. They all had the same glowing eyes.Corrine decided that very instant she heard whispers of Jace being asked out by the “queen of mean" she would make sure that anyone that would keep her from her destiny would be regretful that they did. Even though looking into those Moiria girls wouldn’t be enough she planned to stick to Jace like Loctite. Their bond was forged fr
Cynthia knew what she had to do. Instead of telling Andi she left the room and grabbed Apollo. “We’re going to go ahead and leave. Sorry it seems you maybe beyond help for your first date Andi. See you in class tomorrow.”Andi looked at their retreating backs with her mouth opened in an O. Could she really be beyond help because of her clothing selection? Apollo just knew exactly what Cynthia was thinking. It was better to give a false truth than an outright lie. She had something up her sleeve.Cleo joined the two sisters. Seeing Andi with her mouth open she lightly touched her chin to close her mouth. Teasing her older sister with a smile she spoke, “You mustn’t leave your mouth open unless you want flies to make a home in there.”The audible sound of Andi swallowing and wetting her mouth was funny to the two of them. Yet, Andi had her thoughts on what she could do to make Jace look at her as something more than the Queen Bitch on campus. Only one idea woul
Once Cynthia was inside her house. She called an emergency sorority meeting. She was president of their house. Others seemed to think she was wishy-washy but in fact she was the most considerate and kind president on Greek row. The ladies in this house were all open minded and in some aspect free spirits. They all had different majors but they all wanted what’s was best for womankind.“Ladies, I need your help. It’s a bit of an emergency.”The members all joined her in the dining hall. It was where they did their discussions for the week. Each lady took their perspective seat and looked to Cynthia as they waited for her to speak.“Sisters, I need your help. It’s my cousin Andi.”They other girls turned to each other and gasp. They never spoke a word to her but they all knew the rumors surrounding her. One member spoke up since the others weren’t sure what Andi could have done. “Is this because of the rumors she is going out with Jace?”“Oh good. You heard
“Then if I scared you, you should make me angry.”He adjusted himself so that he was sitting on the sofa properly. “Or you can work on your temper.”“Do you know anything about me? History was correct about my personality.”“Yes, you were the unyielding one. The one that ends the lives of man. I know this. Why are you bringing this up?”“Because even if we try to act as if we are the same, we are far from it. I’m a deity. You are something I can’t place just yet.”Hearing her say that made him stiffen. He hadn’t expected her to have an inkling about him at all. He laughed nervously. “You’re funny. I’m just a normal person.”“Yeah, you see I watched movies during my time here before the rest came to join us. Only those that aren’t what they truly are say they are normal people.”“That’s just movie magic.&r
Jacqueline wasn’t sure if she should say anything else or let her brother be. If that strange girl was his girlfriend, then where did that leave Corrine? She looked down at the sleeping wolf, then covered her with the blanket. “Sleep well little brother. I’ll talk to you in the morning.”“Yeah, yeah.” He yawned, while walking away. Part of him wanted to check on Andi once again but decided against it.Jacqueline sat next to the table. Corrine hadn’t stirred yet. She waited to see when Corrine would take a breath. It felt like an eternity had taken place before she seen the rise and fall of her chest. Jacqueline breathed out in relief. “I can’t imagine how hurt you feel to know that the one you believe to be fated to has someone else. Even if Jace isn’t your mate, the perfect one will come and steal your breath away.”Corrine opened her eyes then. She was still in her wolf form but the sorrow was c

His presence seemed to calm her enough to cause the rage building inside of her to dissipate. The wolf in the back seat was too lethargic to know what was going on but even her fur stood on ends from the aura permeating around them. Andi wanted to reveal herself but with Jace holding on to her she kept herself from doing anything. “Please return to your vehicles and think wisely on your life choices.”Jacqueline got out of her car and walked cautiously to Jace’s the wolf was one she was sure she recognized. Her once calm and serene face twisted into a scowl. The police got back into their vehicles, driving off in a slight daze. Jace turned her around to face him, lost in the sight of her eyes going from pure black to white with brown iris. He moved his head back in shock. “So, that’s something.”Andi covered her face, partially hating that he seen her that way. Jacqueline got the wolf out of the car and into his house. The who
Andi kept turning her head back to check that the wolf was still breathing. Her nerves were on edge, this was a first for her. Human emotions were something she never had to deal with before in her life, not in this way. “Andi? Are you driving yet?”She knew he wanted her to answer him but seeing that big and oddly beautiful creature laying in the backseat with its life slowly ebbing away she couldn’t say anything. Jace called out to her again, hoping to get her attention. “Andi? Answer me. You need to start moving if we’re going to keep the wolf from being dying.”The word dying snapped her out of her daze. “Yeah, you’re right. Her death isn’t supposed to happen right now.”Jace was startled by her words, “Her? what do you mean?”Andi started the car and tried to focus on what he had told her before; she got the car moving again. “I may not deal with the death of animals but I
“That’s fine. Look at my keys and get the one that looks different.” “Ok.” She held the keys up to the burgeoning light. She seen the one with a different handle on it. “How did you get inside? These look like house keys too.” “I have a spare. Go ahead and stick it into the slit on the side of the steering wheel.” “Right.” She stuck it in the turned it forward, the car roared to life. Jace could hear the car humming in the background. “Great. Now if you look to you right there’s going to be the gear shift, a handle so to speak. Do you see it?” “Yes. I have my hand on it now.” She placed her hand on the stick. She tried to move it but it wouldn’t move. “Jace it won’t move.” “It won’t. Just wait. In order to get it to move take you right foot and place it forward. You’ll feel two different peddles. Do you feel them?” She moved her foot forward and touched on one. It caused the car to rev up. She removed her foot. “I found one.” S
“Different how? Atropos what have you done?” It was Cleo that spoke up. She couldn’t believe the one deemed “inflexible” to be swayed by a man. “Have you learned nothing from the countless women that sold their souls for a stupid man? You’re really saying that he’s different?” Lachesis eyes widen at the way she spoke to their sister. She started to speak up when Atropos squared her shoulders. It was a sign; it was the beginning of a fight. Lachesis didn’t want to be there anymore. Just as she was starting to move, Atropos held her hand up. “Are you really questioning me Clotho?” “I-I’m not. It’s just that you’re acting like an idiot. How can we trust him?” Atropos crossed her arms over her chest. Tilting her head, you could see the annoyance festering in her eyes. “Are you done? Because if you want to continue to ATTEMPT to treat me as if I am an idiot then the conversation can be over and I will not confide in either of you.” The two sisters looked a
Jace reached the ceremonial grounds once again. He looked to see majority of them still in their wolf form only to see his mother and a few around her. He made a beeline towards her. She sensed the presence of her son coming up to her. She gave him a smile, happy that he had returned. “You’re back.” “Yeah, I heard something had happened to you. Are you alright?” “I’m fine just had a bit of a fainting spell. I’ll be right as the moon soon.” He wilted from the tension that was released from his body. “I thought it was something serious.” “I’m fine my boy. No need to worry about me. it’s not like I was attacked and killed by a rival clan.” Jace hugged her and sat next to her for the time being. Corrine seen that he had made it. she was wondering if he ran here or took his car. She lifted her nose to the air, smelling his scent. It was mixed with sweat, letting her know that he had ran all the way there. She took that chance to come over to him. “
Jace finally pulled himself together. Even though they were gods right at the moment they were still people. Just very old people. Ancient in fact. The thought that they at some point seen him in the nude made him begin to panic again. His breathing be labored and erratic. Andi could feel something changing in the atmosphere. She opened her eyes to see Jace sitting there with his hands on the wheel breathing heavily. Snapping to attention she became worried about him. “Are you alright?” He didn’t answer her. His eyes were staring straight into the darkness. It was worrying her. she tried to get him to talk to her again. “Seriously Jace are you alright?” He answered her, although his voice was barely above a whisper. “Yes… No!” Hearing his voice made her calm down enough to assess the situation. “Do you want to talk about it?” “it’s just hitting me that I’m bringing the fates together. Literally the FATES! You can imagine that I’m in a state of panic.”
