With a smile on his face, Adrian drove to the daycare; it was quarter to two. He sat in his truck parked down the street and waited. Kiran’s Jeep parked up the street right across from the daycare. Things at home were tense. Adara and I barely spoke and when we did it was in monosyllables and only when we had to talk to each other. I was still furious with her but we were both equally stubborn and refused to give an inch.She hadn’t yet told me the full story and my patience was wearing thin. The Alpha force in me refused to stand down and the downside was that Adara ignored me as much as I was ignoring her.In the mornings I’d take Christian to school and go to work. Adrian opened his eyes and a smile appeared on his face. He felt rested, invigorated and ready. Today was the day. Christian was sitting on the bed, looking around. He hadn’t yet touched the water and he just sat there quietly, holding on to the tattered blue rabbit like his life depended on it. Adrian stood in front of the warehouse with a gun pointed in my direction. I parked the Jeep and climbed out, holding my hands up in surrender.“Take off your jacket and throw your keys over here.” I took my jacket off and placed it on the ground next to me. I looked at the keys in my hand and threw them over to Adrian where he knelt down and picked them up.“Your phone next.” His order was simple and I threw my phone over to him. He walked over to it and stepped on it. Adrian took half hour naps after each injection so as to keep to his routine of cutting me and injecting me. Every time I closed my eyes, he would stab me and I would jerk awake at the pain.
