Maxwell did not answer as he was too shocked to say anything.

They waited for about four or five hours, and the lights in the emergency room finally went off when it got dark outside.

The doctor came out and told them that Zachary had multiple fractures all over his body as well as internal bleeding. He was in critical condition. Fortunately, his head did not suffer any major trauma, so they were able to save him. He would have to stay in the intensive care unit for a while for them to see how he was recovering.

“But his spinal fracture is severe. I think even if he recovers, he probably won’t be able to live without a wheelchair for the rest of his life,” the doctor told them at the end.

Sonnet and Maxwell did not say anything, each feeling a sense of heavy burden in their hearts.

The doctor sent Zachary to the intensive care unit. Maxwell said to Sonnet, “Why don’t I take you home first? You’ve been through a lot today, and Lil Three is probably tired too.”
