“Hello there,” Maxwell said in a much gentler tone.

Douglas stuttered on the other end of the phone, “Um, Mr. Brooks, we weren’t supposed to contact you, but this matter involves my daughter, Lovey’s, future, so I shamelessly made this call.”

“You don’t need to say that. As long as I can help you, I am duty-bound to do so. I’ve always remembered the kindness you showed me,” Maxwell said politely.

“Um, well, I’ll just spit it out then. The thing is that Lovey didn’t do well on the college entrance examination, so she’s been farming at home for the past two years. We thought it wasn’t a huge issue, so we tried to introduce her to potential partners. However, she’s not interested and insists on studying for the exam again.
