Step 3: After Signing the Contract

#What steps should I take after signing a contract with GoodNovel?

After finalizing a contract with GoodNovel, consider the following important actions:

  • Update Payment Information :Access your personal page via a DESKTOP to input your payment details. (Note: This action is unavailable on mobile devices.) For security reasons, once you've provided payment information, there will be a 90-day waiting period before you can modify it. Ensure the accuracy of the details you provide.

If you're using payment information from someone else, such as a family member or friend, notify your editor beforehand. They will provide an additional agreement for you to sign and assist with the payment information update process.

  • Initiate Premium Chapters: When your book has between 10 to 15 chapters, you're eligible to apply for premium status. Discuss with your editor about designating certain chapters as premium (or paid) chapters.

Typically, premium status is granted between the 5th to 15th chapter, especially at cliffhanger moments. While you can decide the optimal chapter, seeking your editor's advice is beneficial.

  • Boosting Book Visibility: If you notice limited reads on your book, it may be because it hasn't reached the 50k words threshold needed for inclusion in our recommendation list. Once you've uploaded 50k words, reach out to your editor. They will facilitate your book's recommendation, increasing its visibility to potential readers.

#Can I edit my book after I sign the contract?

Yes. But if it's a significant change, please inform your editor about it first because after you sign the contract, all edits will need to be reviewed by your editor prior to publication But don't worry: the unedited version will still be there before the edit gets approved.

#I uploaded a chapter twice by mistake, now I can't delete it, what should I do?

You can't delete the chapters in your signed books. But your editor can, so please talk to them and they can delete it for you.

#My book is finished How do I mark it complete?

To mark your book as complete, simply inform your editor, and they will handle it for you.

Important Notes:

  • Once a book is designated as complete, you won't be able to add new chapters. However, edits to existing chapters are permissible.

  • Should you wish to change the book's status from "complete" to "ongoing," discuss it with your editor.

  • If, upon initial completion, your word count falls short of the threshold for a completion bonus and you later decide to switch the status back to "ongoing" to increase word count, the completion bonus WILL NOT be retroactively applied.

#I want to write a sequel for my contracted book, can I get a contract for it?

The process for obtaining a contract for a sequel to a contracted book is the same as any other contract application.

#I asked my editor to lock the chapters/delete a chapter/review an edited chapter for me, but it's still not locked/deleted/reviewed when I check them.

This is because you checked using your mobile phone and your own account. Chapters are not locked to their own authors, so you need to log out of your account.  To accurately view any updates made to your book, it's recommended to access the website from a desktop. If you're using a mobile device, it's essential to clear your phone's cache first, as content previously viewed on your phone will not refresh unless the cache is cleared and the page is reopened. If, after taking these steps, you still cannot observe the changes after 48 hours, please contact your editor for further assistance.

#Why is my attendance bonus showing $0? What does it mean?

The displayed bonus amount might not be accurate since it's based on data from 2 days ago. Your payment for the current month might appear incorrect due to ongoing system calculations or if you haven't updated for a minimum of 25 days within the month. The accurate figures typically appear at the beginning of the subsequent month.
