The day after I signed the contract, Mr Montgomery himself came to help me move early in the morning.

Our faces were all over the news and I didn’t want to be seen with him anytime soon.

I insisted he didn’t need to since I just had a backpack but he didn’t believe me.

I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to Mikayla before leaving. She was at work so I sent her a message.

I wished I could be friends with her since she helped me so much.

“You only have this?” He asked grabbing the backpack “you could just go without it”

“Don’t look down on me, all I had was stolen the first day I arrived in town and I didn’t have enough money to spend on a whole bunch of new clothes, so… whatever! Give me that!” I tried to take it from his hand but couldn’t succeed.

“In that case, we won’t be going home yet”

We got into the car and we went to a fancy clothing store where all they have were luxury brands.

Whenever I touched something, I would search for the price tag. A simple skirt would cost more than the minimum wage. It was ridiculous and it didn’t seem to be more comfortable.

“Sorry but I can’t afford any of those” I told him as soon he approached me.

“You’re not the one buying them” he answered grabbing a beige dress with a beautiful tail.

I spent all day trying elegant and extravagant dresses I was not comfortable wearing. Not because it wasn’t good material but because I felt like a vessel.

It was all so I could just look like a true billionaire’s wife. I was supposed to show up at business events and dinners so Mr Montgomery would be praised for getting a woman.

When we got to his home I was totally drained and it was getting dark outside.

He showed me the house and got the bags in my room.

My room looked like a surgery room. Completely sterile. Everything was white and light grey. It had a white closet that matched the bed and bedside tables.

Got an empty light grey desk near the window, where in between was a white armchair. The white curtains opened to a nice balcony.

Later I would find the balcony was shared by Mr Montgomery. My room was right next to his.

When he left, it was time to get everything in its place. So I started by organizing the closet. He bought me high heels that matched every dress.

He had a good touch for fashion.

Although it was a two-story house, he didn’t have a housekeeper. It was a mystery how he could keep it so clean. I would find out next day that he had an old lady, May Marble, doing the cleaning and that that old lady was in fact the housekeeper of his family’s house.

He left soon for work and I stood there with Mrs Marble. I was not used to have someone doing the chores for me so I just found it difficult to watch her clean without doing anything. With that said, I started cleaning with her and by the lunch time we were finished.

She was ready to go but I felt the need to offer her something to eat before she left.

“I know you must be busy, Mrs Marble, but I would be so happy if we could have a meal together. I want to thank you for all your effort today”

“Oh, Mrs Moore, you are a really pure girl, aren’t you?” She got a motherly smile on her face and I could just smile back, blushing. “I have some free time today, so if you don’t mind, It would be my pleasure to share a meal with you, my dear”

We were both very similar. Neither of us could sit still when there was something to do, so I couldn't stop her from helping me cook.

After we finished our meal, Mr Marble told me she would be coming more often to the house as the wedding would take place there. She was the one organizing all of it so Mr Montgomery had ask her to include me in the task.

“What’s with that expression, my dear?” Mr Marble looked at me frowning.

“I thought the wedding would be something more private”

“Mr Montgomery plans to invite his mother and grandfather and some important business partners. Don’t worry too much, it will not be a great party. Just a quiet and elegant event so you will be introduced to important people in your husband’s circle” she caressed my hand. “It’s important to be well acquainted in this world, my dear”

I didn’t know to what extent she or his family knew about the contract so I didn’t say a word.

She would be helping me choosing the wedding dress and all the details to add to it.

I wasn’t ready but that’s how it went.

At the end of the week, everything was settled down for the wedding, we just had to send the invitations.

The wedding would happen in the next week. Mr Montgomery wanted to marry as soon as possible so he could get the attention of Arthur Collins, the main investor he was interested in for the project with NASA.
