Chapter 23

Zara

I walked slowly through the dark and foggy forest, trying to make my way out unseen, unheard. It was hard but I had to try. Danger was lurking in the trees, between the leaves and it was coming for me. The forest was pitch black, the moon being my  only source of  illumination. My bare feet weren't fully touching the ground because I was afraid that someone would hear me. It was a do or die affair for me in the moment. Be detected and die. Suddenly I heard a twig snap nearby.

"You think you can hide from me??" Her voice rang out in echoes through the night.

My heart raced in fear, my breathing more rapid as I frantically looked around to figure out where her voice was coming from. The twig snapped again and without thinking twice, I ran. I ran as fast as I could for dear life. The extra footsteps I heard indicated that she was on my tail.
