Zara
I got down from the car that brought my aunt and i from the village and my eyes came in contact with a glorious mansion. I had never seen such an edifice in my life. I was almost sure that I was going to get lost in this place.
"Welcome, to your new home" I heard my aunt say, making me turn my head in her direction to see her smiling at me.
"It's beautiful aunty." I said in amazement, still looking around us. I noticed the green plants that were planted close to the walls around the compound. The exotic cars parked around the compound were too much for me to start counting.
"Come let's go inside." Aunty Ijeoma said and I turned around to take my bags but she stopped me. "Don't worry dear, Alphonsus will bring them in." She said, talking about the gateman making me turn around to follow here.
We walked into the house and I was immediately star struck with the beauty of the interior, it was so extravagant. I never knew Aunty Ijeoma and Uncle Uche had this much money. And we have been suffering in the village. It's unfair oh. But I won't complain. At least I'm here now.
I just wish my parents were still alive to see where I am. "Aunty, your house is very fine." I said to her making her chuckle.
"It's also yours my dear. I want you to meet someone. Louis? Louis!!" She called while I patiently waited for whoever it was.
"Yes, I'm coming." A very tired and irritated voice called out. A very tall and handsome man wearing a hat strode down the steps and into the living room.
"Oh mom you're back finally." He said, smiling at my aunt. Wait oh, so that is her son. I didn't even know they had a child. I hadn't seen him before.
"Yes oh and I came with your cousin." His face fell and he looked at me then back to my aunt
"Wait, wait, wait" he said rapidly, looking at me again. "Zara? Zara right?" He said while pointing at me and I nod.
He started eyeing me up and down making me feel conscious of myself because the clothes I was wearing were very old.
A smile suddenly broke out on his lips. He walked towards me and enveloped me in a hug which was unexpected. I hugged him back though, my heart calming down and I was able to smile at him.
"Its so good to finally meet you, I'm Louis, the hat guy." He said still grinning. I felt ashamed that he knew who I was but I didn't even know that he existed.
I chuckled a bit, who calls himself 'the hat guy'?.
I unconsciously let out a small yawn. This made Louis to grab my hand and start walking in the direction of the staircase.
"I know you're tired, let me show you your room." He said, grinning and dragging me up the stairs. I felt a bit scared because I had just met him.
I looked back at my aunt and she just smiled at us, shaking her head. I just took that as her saying "its safe".
We got upstairs and it was a whole new decoration all together. I was so in awe of the whole house, so big and so beautiful.
We passed different hallways that I tried so hard to memorise but I couldn't get it. I said it, I was going to get lost in this house.
We got to a very big mighty door and he opened it. I was greeted with a very big beautiful room. There was a big mighty bed posted to a wall with two lamps
Hanging from the ceiling was a chandelier, I'd never seen one until I came to this house.
" You like?" I heard Louis say, making me look at him. He was just standing there grinning at me and I know its because of the way I was looking around in fascination.
"Everything is just so lovely here. It's so unreal." I say grinning at him.
"Just freshen up and get some rest. I need to go to the office now but I'll see you in the morning okay?" He said still smiling at me. I nodded.
He turned around to go but he stopped. "Forgive me," he said, "the bathroom is over there" he said pointing at another giant door to the right of the bed, "and your walk in closet is over there." He pointed again to a door to the left of the bed. I gave him a nod and then he left me alone.
"Wow, this place is fine oh." I said to my self, turning around to look again. My late Uncle Uche must have made a whole lot of money before he died because this is luxury on another level.
I came to notice that my luggage had already been brought here. Well I wouldn't exactly call them luggage. They were just two beat up duffel bags, I didn't really have much.
I took my sponge, towel and toothbrush from the bag and went straight to the bathroom. Thankfully, the bathroom had a shower with two taps beneath it, one was red and one was blue. I used my sense to know that it was hot and cold respectively.
I decided to put the both of them on, making the water warm. I quickly had my bath and brushed my teeth.
Once I was out of the bathroom, I saw my aunt sitting on the bed. "Aunty, I didn't know when you entered." I said smiling at her.
She smiled back. "Just wanted to have a chat with you. Come and sit beside me." She requested and it made me thankful that I was wearing my towel, what if I was naked now?
I obliged her and sat beside her. "So how far with your education?" She asked me.
"I have a degree in business management." I said. My aunt's face changed to one of shock. I knew she would be surprised.
"How? I thought you had never left the village." She asked me.
"Well aunty, it was a miracle. My father didn't have money to send me to the university and then Unizik brought their weekend programme to Nnewi. We were meeting at the community primary school every weekend. I studied there for five years and i got my degree."
"Wow, interesting. I was thinking of how to get you in school but now I think it's a job that you need. I'll talk to Louis." My aunt said and my heart was full of joy and gratitude.
I knelt down on the tiled ground "Aunty, thank you so much, I'm so grateful, God will surely continue to bless you." I said and she smiled and told me to get up which I did. I sat back on the bed and sighed.
When I was still in the village after getting my degree, I was wondering how I would make use of it. I had big dreams, but there was no way for me to achieve them because I was stuck in the village with no opportunities. I was glad that my aunt took me out of there. Now I can comfortably think about my future with a smile on my face.
"Now I want to you feel at home. This is now your house. You can do anything you want, eat what you want and go where you want okay? The house is yours as much as it is mine." She said, genuinely smiling at me.
I felt happy that I had someone like her after the death of my father. And although it is her late husband that is related to me, she still felt the need to take care of me and I appreciate her for that.
"I'll be going now, I'll have to travel again tomorrow but Louis will take care of you." She said and I felt sad that she was leaving, but Louis was nice to me so I didn't have any worries.
"Safe journey aunty." I wished her and she thanked me and left me alone. I sighed and yawned again. I was really sleepy and it had gotten dark.
I took the two bags I brought and went to where Louis said was the walk in closet. I opened the big door and since it's called walk in I figured it meant that I had to walk into it which I did and lo and behold it was like I was in another room.
There were clothes upon clothes hung on five clothing racks, three shelves filled with shoes and bags, a vanity table with a mirror that had lights and oh, another chandelier. What is it with this house and chandeliers.
"Wow" I unconsciously said and dropped my bags. A thought quickly hit me though, what if they aren't mine? I couldn't use things that I wasn't told to use.
I hastily brought out my mum's old night gown that I now use and put it on. I then kept my bag in a corner and left the closet.
Reaching my room, I laid down and covered myself with the blanket.
This was Lagos, where they say the fun never stops. And I already knew that I was going to have the time of my life.
With that thought, I lulled myself to sleep.

Zara.I opened my eyes when the most beautiful aroma hit my nose. And it was too close to be coming all the way from downstairs.I sat up only for me to see a trolley full of food, different things were in there that I had never seen before. And they all looked delicious.I was so distracted by the food i n front of me that I didn't see Louis standing near the food until he cleared his throat.I looked up at him, he was still as handsome as he was the night before, but he was only wearing a singlet and beach shorts. No hat this time."Breakfast is served." He said dramatically making me laugh."Thank you." I said back to him. This was so thoughtful of him. I didn't eat anything last night so my stomach was way too empty and I was so hungry."Feel free to indulge." He said in a
Zara.We drove into the big black gates of the place called 'The L Hotel'. I couldn't believe that Louis had his own hotel. There were several buildings in the compound with series and series of rooms and balconies. It was breathtakingly beautiful."You own this?" I asked with the shock I was feeling, very evident in my voice. He chuckled lightly "Of course. I didn't really want to be CEO of my dad's company. I wanted to have my own chain of hotels so me and my dad made a deal, I run the company and he lets me use my trust fund to buy my hotel which of course worked in my favor because now, my money is long!" He said obviously very proud of his achievements."I don't even want to ask how much the hotel is" I said grinning, knowing that a snarky comment is coming. He started laughing "Do you want to die? I saw the way you almost fainted when you heard the pric
Lola on the left, Zara on the right.Song: Imagine Dragons - Thunder.Zara.When I got back to the house, I freshened up and wore some casual clothes I saw in the closet and sat on my bed.I heard a loud ding from my new phone and decided to check what it was. I opened it and saw a message.*Aminu: My fair lady.*The text was from Aminu. How though? How did Aminu even get my number in the first place. I decided to reply him.*Me: How did you get my number and how is your number in my phone?*I sent my reply and waiting for his, this was insane although a part of me felt happy that I was talking to him.A reply finally came in*Aminu: Lol, I knew you would ask that. Well you really should monitor what people do on your phone.*I suddenly remembered when he
Patrick Garba above... Song: Taylor Swift - Sparks Fly. Zara. Lola was the devil. I really disliked that girl with a passion. Jealousy will not kill her. So after my crying session. Louis gave me some more pep talk before I was able to calm down. I was finally confident that I could handle the job, or so I thought. Louis introduced me to his secretary and personal assistant Chinonso or Nonso for short. He was really sweet and I liked him. Then he took me to Lola's office to 'shadow' her for the rest of the week. I initially thought she would be showing me the ropes and give me a tour at least but this girl turned me into a freaking messenger. "Chizaram go and get this." "Chizaram go and get that" "This girl,
Zara above..Song: Joeboy - Baby.Zara.On our way to wherever it was that Aminu was taking me, I got a call from Louis."Zara I've been looking everywhere for you. Where are you?" He said worriedly like he felt I was kidnapped."Why didn't you ask your crazy fiancee. You handed me over to her right?" I snapped unknowingly and Aminu gave me a look from the driver's seat.He sighed into the phone "What do you mean by that? I did ask and she said she doesn't know""What?" My eyes were practically bulging out of my head. That little she devil. "She sent me to give Aminu documents and she told you she doesn't know where I am?"I heard Louis' sharp breath from the other side of the line "Wait what? Isn't that a job for-""An Assistant, yes I know but she sent me anyway." I cut him off. I was tired of p
Tayo above.. (Louis' engaged friend)Song: Adekunle Gold - Orente.Zara.The kiss was slow and passionate. It was like Aminu was telling me how he felt through the kiss. It made me feel things i had never felt before. My brain couldn't think about the consequences of this but could only savour the taste of his lips on mine.My phone message tone suddenly filled the car, making us pull away and also making me come back to my senses. Aminu was breathless and so was I. Aminu put his forehead on mine as we paused to catch our breath.Suddenly regret washed over me like an avalanche. I had just met this man yesterday, and now I'm kissing him. I knew my parents trained me better than that."What did we just do?" I breathed out, my forehead still rested on Aminu's."I don't know, but I know that I never want to stop." Aminu whispered huskily.
Tiara on the left, Anita on the right.Song: Hillsong United - Good Grace.Zara.The next day was much better than the former.Louis showed me my office which was one of the only offices on the 54th floor. It was just my office, Louis' and the conference room. He also gave me most of the existing paper work of the company for me to study so I can pick up from where the former COO stopped. My office was really beautiful and very big. It was as big as Louis' only more beautiful. The office had purple walls and white curtains with lounge chairs and a plasma TV to the side and a glass desk in the middle with a big chair behind it. It also had two small chairs in front for visitors. There were shelves with a lot of books relating to the shipping business and oil.I was in the middle of studying the papers when Lola barged into my office.I loo
Zara's look for the party above...Song: Burna Boy - Gbona.Zara..Today was the day of Tiara and Tayo's engagement party and I was so excited for them.It had been three weeks since I came to Lagos and it was three weeks of bliss. Aminu and I had still been talking but we hadn't really been with each other alone again since Tea Room because we were hiding from Louis because according to Aminu, Louis wouldn't be happy with him getting near me for some reason. I liked him a lot and I didn't mind hiding.Anita, Tiara and I had been hanging out a lot. They were the ones who really showed me around Lagos. They took me to lounges, clubs, restaurants and basically almost all the cool spots. I really enjoyed my time with them. Tiara with her Teletubby personality and Anita with her more mature but still cheery one. I was yet to meet Lakisha though and a girl they called Flakey, Lanre's
Aminu. Previously... "Ma'am this is from Mr Garba" he said and gave me a card. "What's that?" Tanna asked. I opened it and smiled "aww it's a note" "Aww. Read it out" she said. So curious for gossip. I giggled. "To my Angel Wife, I remember the day we met. It was then that I knew that I wouldn't let you slip through my fingers. At first sight I knew that you were the one for me. I didn't care about anything else other than being with you from that moment. I just knew I wanted to see you happy. The love I feel for you is strong and eternal. My Queen, you are the light in my life, the air in my lungs. You give me purpose in every way and I am so happy you agreed to be with me forever. Your aura has consumed me and I want to bask in the light that you give for the rest of eternity. Today, we seal the deal and I just wanted to s
Zara Previously... "Sorry ma'am I didn't wasn't to keep you waiting so I had to let you in before they were done." Atafo apologised. "There's no need to apologise. I don't mind" I shrugged. Tanna who had been silent all along tapped me pointing at an armless gown she seemed to like. "That's a really cool design." Tanna said. "Feel free to move around and choose. I'll be waiting for what you decide. You can also have this notepad to write down your thoughts." He said and gave us a notepad. We began our search. The gowns on display were all breathtakingly gorgeous. I was so shook at what Atafo could actually do with those hands of his. I Was already imagining what my wedding dress would look like. "So do you have anything in mind?" Tanna asked me. "Yeah I have an idea of what I want. I want an armless dr
Zara Previously... "Do you miss Greece? We could go back soon if you want." He said taking my hand across the table. "Yeah but we will plan it this time Mimi. No surprises." I warned and he sat up, putting his hand on his chest. "Promise ma'am" he said. "Good. So what are we eating, I'm hungry." I said and took the menu. The dinner date was really fun. We had laughs and talked about everything. Also gossiped about a few of our friends. We basically dissected everything while violating table manners. But we didn't care. Once we were done with our three course meal of exquisite delicacies, as of on cue, music started to play. One of my favorite songs at the moment. Odo by Johnny Drille. "Can I have this dance ma cherie" Aminu held his hand out smiling while I laughed at something he had said earlier.
Zara. Previously... When the police man had chained him to the table and left, Patrick started laughing. "What's funny" I said frowning. "You know, I never ever thought that I would ever see you again in my life" Patrick said, still chuckling. "Well, one last time wouldn't hurt. I used to consider you my friend." I said and folded my arms. "I used to be in love with you you know. Or should I say, infatuated." Patrick said and chuckled. It seemed as though he was finding himself amusing. "I know that" I said. I surprising was not feeling any emotions right now towards him. Everything was well and okay. He didn't disgust me the way Jasmine seemed to. "Yeah and you know I didn't intend to shoot you. I'm really sorry." He said. "I just hope you don't hate me" "I don't Patrick. Have y
Zara Previously... The judge was rested back in his chair, but his face held shock and fear. Probably fear for knowing someone like Jasmine. Aminu who was sat beside me had become furious again and I stroked his arm to calm him which he was responding to well. The silence in the room was deafening for a few seconds before the judge finally spoke again. "Wow, officers, I don't know what you people are waiting for. Cuff her immediately." He said with venom in his voice. The policemen who were stationed in the courtroom went forward and cuf
Zara Previously... Your honor, my client is not guilty of the allegations on him. First of all, this child is legally his son which means he had all the right to have the boy in his custody however, the way it is being narrated is not how it happened. My client went to the Plaintiff's apartment which in his magnanimity he had given her, only to realize that she had run away from the house along with all her belongings leaving just the boy, the nanny and a letter confessing all her crimes against Mr Garba here. My client having a good heart, took the boy into his home even after finding out that the boy is not his. So your honor, this whole case is a lie and shouldn't even have been a case in the first place." My lawyer said and sat down. "Objection my Lord! There is no evidence to back his claim" Jasmine's attorney said.
Aminu. Previously... Almost a week had passed and it was finally the day that we would stand trial with the arbitrator. Aminu had pushed for it because he didn't want the stupid case to taint his brand which was the wise thing to do. The arbitrator would essentially keep everything on a low and not attract press to it. Or so I thought. I hadn't spoken to Aminu even after Tanna's intervention. Now I was ready and I was going to surprise him at the arbitrator's office. There was no way I would leave him to do this alone. I didn't tell Louis because his big mouth would tell Aminu in a heart beat. On getting to the venue for the trial, contrary to my belief, there was a swarm of press people with microphones and cameras at the doors to the building. What the hell? Who told them where it would be. I decided to hide and slip in undetected. I met a secur
Zara. Previously... "Yeah I get it. It's very nice of her though" I said and sighed, rubbing my eyes. "I really miss Zara. And Nas has been crying, he wants to see her. I'm always scared of going home to him because he'll start hounding me with questions and crying again." I said rubbing my face in frustration thinking about how sad Nasir was that Zara wasn't there. "Did he do that when he was brought to your house in the first place. Like did he cry about Jasmine?" Louis with his nosiness asked. "Not at all. It was like he didn't know the difference. Nasir for her was always a tool to use to get what she wanted so I believe they didn't have much of a relationship with each other." I said and sipped my usual glass of whiskey. "Don't worry, she'll come around" he said and his eye twitched. That was something I learnt over the years to look out for if Louis
Aminu. Previously... "Both you and Jasmine will rot in prison, I will make sure of that" I said, gritting my teeth. Anger rose in me and I had to fight of the urge to get my hands around his throat and kill him there and then. But then I had to allow the law take its course and Zara.. she wouldn't be happy with my line of action. "I've accepted my fate brother. I wish I did things better. I probably would get a life sentence or worse, be executed which I'll prefer because a life sentence is a fate worse than death. I have never asked you for anything before but I will do it now because this is a mutual need. Make sure Jasmine goes to jail or dies. That is my only wish." He said this time looking me in the eye. "That's easy. And for what it's worse. If you hadn't betrayed me and had told me about the fact that we were brothers from the onset, I would have accepted you with all the joy in the w
