CHAPTER 155: Not Forever

Pyra’s POV:

My breath caught in my throat as Maverick lips pressed against mine. It was a kiss unlike any I had ever experienced—wild, urgent, filled with want and raw intensity. His hands instinctively reached for the back of my head, gripping me tightly like he never wanted to let me go.

I didn’t want it to end but I had to. I tried to move away, but Maverick held on tight, refusing to let me bulge out. His tongue slid into mine, massaging and dancing around it.

I was strong, yes, but not that strong. I can resist many things but this mustn’t have been one of them. I couldn’t help but melt into the kiss, my lips parting to allow Maverick's tongue to deepen the connection. I didn’t know where I was again as everything melted away like candy; sweet, delicious, and short-lasting. It was only two of us, lost in the intensity of the moment.

Maverick's grip on my head tightened, his fingers tangling in my hair as he devoured my mouth. I felt his passion, his d

CHAPTER 1 PYRA's POV: I was in the middle of an open forest, encircled by towering trees that seemed to stretch up to the sky. The moon cast an ethereal glow, illuminating the fog that spread around me, making it hard to see beyond two arm's length. “Rhaella, my beautiful girl.” A gentle voice spoke behind me, and I veered sharply to the whimsical presence standing a few feet away from me. His face was obscured, but that didn’t hide the crimson-red eyes that shimmered despite the fog that shrouded his face. But what was most prominent was his fiery red hair, so similar to mine, except a darker shade that moved in a synchronized manner like that of the calming ocean as the wind blew against it. “W-who are you?” I stammered out. My heart rate, which was once elevated, suddenly became calm in his presence. I felt my legs move on their own accord and got closer to the strange man. “My pride, my Rhaella... Remember who you are.” He stretched his arms towards me, exposing a

CHAPTER 2PYRA’s POV:Alpha Maverick came to halt in front of him. His bright blue eyes locked into my red ones. His broad figure almost dominated the whole kitchen as his skin shimmered in the small sunlight that entered the kitchen. His hair, dark and messy. He stared down at me silently while I shook and shivered on the floor from Natalie’s brutal attack. I wondered what I had ever done wrong to deserve all of this. I emitted a soft, pitiful snuffle and picked myself up, my movement hesitant and awkward, and bowed respectfully.“Thank you, Alpha,” I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper. Alpha Maverick grunted, his voice firm but not unkind. "You shouldn't let other people bring you down; you need to stand up for yourself, Pyra. There is no room in my pack for weak omegas.”His words stung, but he was right. But I couldn't stand up for myself, even if I tried. Only pain came the last time I tried. So now, I did what anyone would have done if they were in my shoes; lay low an

CHAPTER 3PYRA’s POV:It's been two days since I got rejected and I've been trying to avoid crossing paths with Alpha Maverick. A few times, he was close to discovering me, but I had experience with escaping people, and I knew every place within the pack, so it was easy to run from him.As I got dressed for the day's chores with the pain of his rejection still looming over my entire being, a knock sounded at the door. A few seconds later, the door opened, one of the other maids piped in as she glared at me.“The headmistress demands our presence now,” she said before I could say anything. Another normal day in the pack house, and by normal day, I meant filled with chores and having to not bump into Alpha Maverick, Natalie, or Connor, which was always hard considering I worked on the same floor they lived on and I had to serve them their food. I didn’t want to get up, but I knew what would happen if I miss today's briefing. We all gathered in the servant quarters, which was an ext

CHAPTER 4 PYRA’s POV: I rushed out of the alpha's wing, feeling the tears flow freely down my cheeks. I thought for a second that he had finally come through, that everything would be fine. The way he held me so closely convinced me, although I could smell the alcohol on him. The mate bond tricked me and my delusional mind into thinking that he wanted me. He didn't; it was all a mistake, and none of it was real. With my clothes in my hand and only my underwear for cover, I raced back to my room. It was still dark out, and everyone should have still been in bed. It was easier to run back to my room without being seen, and it would be easier for me to leave in the cover of darkness. I was never even going to stay after what had happened; I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing that we had sex, and I later found out he never wanted me to begin with. I had been banished. Where I would go was the question I would figure out when I was out of the pack. I stuffed my

It was as if they were heavily weighed down by an invisible force like a thousand bricks pressing down on them. 'Was I dead?' I wondered. Was this how the afterworld felt?I felt like a prisoner, imprisoned in my own body. I could remember unquestionably falling to my death off the cliff, the crashing impact with the water's surface, and the excruciating pain that still lingered vividly in my mind.I knew I was dead at that moment since no one could have ever survived that impact. But… the persistent throbbing of my heart and the feeling of the blood mixed with anguish coursing through my veins told me a different story.I realized I wasn't dead after all. The pain and coldness after my rejection were too real and intense to ignore. But where was I? Why was it so cold here?"Wake up, goddam

CHAPTER 6PYRA's POV:“Rhaella.” “Rhae…lla.” Oh No, not again. That same deep voice. I touched the ground, expecting to feel the cold marbled floor, but instead was met with something soft and cool. My memories came flooding back—the torture, the mistletoe, the silver burns. I shuddered, fear creeping up my spine like a slow-moving fog. Just then, I heard the voice calling that same name. “Rhaella.” The voice followed with a piercing howl, sending cold shivers down my spine. I forcefully opened my eyes, feeling confusion creeping in as I pushed upwards and knelt. Shockingly, I was fully healed with no injury in sight. “Where am I?” I croaked, scanning my surroundings. A figure stood before me. It was the same mysterious man, with red hair similar to mine and piercing crimson orbs for eyes. The crescent moon on his shoulder seemed to gleam with a soft light. “You’re closer, Rhaella.” He said, his deep voice echoing through the clearing. “Close to home, close to fulfilling you

CHAPTER 7Maverick’s POVI reviewed the papers on my desk, endeavoring to focus on what lay in front of me, but my mind wandered back to her again. I’ve been plagued by the constant reminder of Pyra. No matter what I did, I couldn’t shake off her crimson eyes and her scent off my head. I sighed as I picked up a file while standing up. The chair scraped loudly against the floor, and I paced around the office. My heavy footsteps echoed off the walls of my office but I couldn’t care less. I only cared about her. My line of sight directed back to my desk— the same spot where I took Pyra. I remembered the soft touch of her pale white skin, her bright piercing eyes boring into mine, and the electricity that sparked whenever our bodies touched. She was too weak to be my mate, yet her fiery spirit lured me into her embrace. Where was she anyway? I haven’t seen her for days now. I walked back to the exact spot and traced my hands where she once lay. I felt hot inside, the memory playing

CHAPTER 8: To Have His Heir NATALIE's POV:I could never get used to this sensation. The taste of absolute control and I basked in it. I triumphed internally as the guards moved out under my single command, and with a satisfying smirk plastered on my face, I knew I loved every bit of this. This was what power felt like; Being able to manipulate anyone and everything with just a single word. I could have just anyone bowing at my feet and worshiping, or else they’d face the consequences. The single thought of anyone taking my place as the Luna of the Fangborn pack didn't bode well with me. It was unbearable to even think about it. Anyone who dares glance at Alpha Maverick so much as in the wrong way would have me to deal with, personally. Not even that pathetic, useless Omega, Pyra, would ever take my rightful position. I was born to be Luna, and that bitch, Pyra, wanted to take my birthright. Let's just say she won't be seen or missed anytime soon.I made sure my brother and the pack

The weight of frustration sat heavily on my chest as I clutched my phone, my grip tightening with each passing second that passed by. I had been calling nonstop, yet my mother kept my calls busy. Every time I tried again, the line went straight to voicemail. It was obvious she was avoiding me. My breath came out sharp as I ran a hand through my hair, trying to calm my nerves but to no avail. Everything was going bad, the walls of the guesthouse felt like they were closing in, suffocating me in complete silence. I checked the screen of my phone, waiting for it to flash with an expected call but nothing. I needed answers and I wanted them now. With a deep inhale, I forced myself to think logically. Maybe she was just busy. Maybe she wasn’t deliberately ignoring me.But I knew better.Mother wasn’t one of the ordinary things. She could be most secretive when she wants to. If she truly h

CHAPTER 153 : Not The Prisoner Third person’s POV:The bedroom was large and vast, bathed in the soft glow from the chandelier hung high from the room, seated perfectly on the ceiling as its glow cast radiant light against the deep, midnight-blue walls. The air smelled of fresh lilies and aged books, a mixture of both elegance and slight solitude, one not favored by one woman in particular. The same woman who stood by the window, her silhouette framed against the clearing beyond. She was still—almost eerily so—her fingers grazing the barricaded window as if reaching for something beyond it that couldn’t be seen, or someone. Her long black hair cascaded down her back, giving her the structure of a perfect portrait of how still she was. She was dressed in a simple white nightgown and nothing else. Her whole focus was outside the window, hating the fact she was kept locked like a prisoner, her sense of freedom inhibited by this barricade, one she so desperately wanted to claw at. “Do

CHAPTER 152: Dig Up Dirt Luna Elodie’s POV: Hours had passed since I returned from the BloodMoon Pack. I had showered, had my dinner, and now paced my chamber, deep in thought. The meeting with Alpha Sam went smoother than I would have thought, and now, I agitatedly waited for his reply. I needed answers and I wanted them immediately. The crackling fire in the hearth did little to warm the cold creeping into my bones under the soft clothes I wore. He should have sent a message by now if my calculations were right. My eyes caught a glimpse of my phone flashing and I rushed over, seeing Maverick’s name as the caller ID. Dammit. I didn’t want to speak with him yet. I haven’t gotten the information I needed from Alpha Sam. I had been waiting for Sam’s call, an email, or even a messenger but I was greeted with none of that. I couldn’t reply to Maverick when I hadn’t gotten even a reply or answer to what I asked for. This was the first time Maverick had ever asked for my help in digg

CHAPTER 151: A Grimy Past AffairLuna Elodie’s POVI chuckled, tilting my head slightly, disbelief colouring my tone. “I fail to understand you, Alpha Sam. What did you just say?”There was no smile on his lips, the usual constant smirk all but history, but his eyes held something deeper—calculated curiosity, or perhaps something far more dangerous, but I also saw—truth. He leaned back in his chair, swirling the remaining wine in his glass. “Excuse me?” He asked smoothly, “Is it about the part where Alpha Thomson had a son of such age or what were you talking about?” He chuckled a little, staring at his glass. “Maybe I took a little too much wine.”I narrowed my eyes, studying him. Was he playing games? Or was he being truthful? Sam was many things—a strategist, a manipulator, a man who never let his guard down—but a liar? No. Not unless it fully benefits him, and from what I could think of, this won’t benefit him even in the slightest; I would make sure of that. “And here I was fla

CHAPTER 150: The Luna In BloodMoonLuna Elodie’s POV:The line went dead and I dropped the phone, my fingers lingering over the screen as confusion settled in my chest, a small crease forming around my brows. What is actually going on? Maverick never takes an interest in things without reason, but this… This felt different. It felt deeper. I shifted in my chair, trying to find a comfortable position to think, but unease had already seeped into my bones and muscles, causing taunting and discomfort. My office—the Alpha’s office, usually a place of comfort since Maverick’s trip to the FireHeart pack, now felt like a space filled with unanswered questions. “He’s taking this man—Steven Stoneclaw’s case—to another level,” I muttered, placing my chin in my hand, my elbow resting on the desk. My mind scaled through many possibilities, trying to piece together the fragments of information I had. “What did this man do that could drag Maverick’s attention this way?”Steven StoneClaw. The na

CHAPTER 149: Pathetic Reflection Maverick’s POV: I felt the familiar softness of her lips against mine, and in that fleeting moment, I wanted nothing more than to be forever trapped here—lost in her warmth, her fire, her everything. But the moment barely lasted. Before I could even deepen the kiss, let my lip dance against hers, before I could pull closer and let myself drown in her, Pyra shoved me back with enough force to send me stumbling. The warmth I felt disappeared, replaced by the cold of the atmosphere. Then—crack. A sharp painful sting erupted across the left of my chin as her palm connected with my skin, the sound of the slap echoing through the kitchen like a gunshot. My head snapped to the side due to the force of the slap, and for a brief second, all I could register was the biting, sharp and painful feeling left in its wake. Slowly, I turned to her, and she was fuming. Her breath came out sharp as her chest rose and fell in quick, furious breath, her crimson ey

I stretched on my bed, a strange yet exhilarating warmth filling my chest. I opened my eyes to stare at the ceiling, the beautiful intricate design of the dense carving so perfect that I only just noticed it now. A smile spread across my lips, and I raised a hand to touch it, confused by the cause of it. For some weird reason, I felt light. It was rare for me to wake up feeling this light, this… happy. And just thinking about it now, I knew exactly why. The smile that tugged at my lips spread even wider as I sat up. It wasn’t something I had planned or even wanted, but knowing that someone genuinely cared—someone who saw me beyond the title, beyond the responsibility, beyond any flaws and still gave a damn—made my heart soar. He walked silently as he moved along the stone path of the small garden bore by the guest house he was assigned to stay in, his hands tucked into his pockets, his mind replaying every moment from the past hour. Alpha Rhaella had finally cracked. He had seen it in her eyes—the uncertainty, the hesitation, the exposure of what she truly wanted. She was strong, but even the strongest had weaknesses, and that was her heart. A smirk tugged at the corners of his lips as he stopped near a marble bench, his fingers absentmindedly tracing the rough bark of a tree.
