CHAPTER 104: The Money Talk

Luna Elodie's POV:

I packed the scant evidence from Blackthorn’s chambers, my hands trembling as I forced myself to breathe steadily, locking the drawer. If this was well hidden by Blackthorn, it meant it was never meant to see the light of day.

Once the room was locked behind me, I hurried down the dimly lit corridor, the eerie silence pressing on my senses as I listened for any sign that I was being watched or followed. My chambers felt like a sanctuary when I finally reached them, though my nerves were taut.

Immediately, I reached for my bed, sliding the evidence beneath my pillow as I adjusted the silk coverlet just as the door swung open.

I veered around in shock, seeing Maverick standing there, his piercing eyes scanning the room.

“M-Maverick,” I stammered, forcing calm into my voice as I folded my hands around my chest. “To what do I owe this visit?”

He stepped further inside, his gaze narrowing. “What are you doing, mother? Where have you been?”

CHAPTER 105: Queen Of Alphas Maverick’s POV:“Are you sure this newly crowned Alpha is not Luna Verona herself?” One of the ministers questioned, his words receiving nods and repose of murmurs from the ministers sitting around the table in the meeting room. “If the rumors we heard were correct, it was a female and not a male that was crowned and took the oath of leadership.”Another Minister pitched in, adjusting his spectacles. “I believe what our esteemed Minister says to be true. There is no limit to what Luna Verona FireHeart could do to maintain power within her grasp. For all we know, this might be another one of her plays.”The air grew dense as Scott, the Whisperer, and second-hand to late minister Blackthorn, lifted his hand as if asking for permission to speak. I nodded, granting him. “Gentlemen,” Scott began, his voice smooth and calculated, “If I may. I had stayed in the FireHeart pack as a spy and whisperer for quite some time before I was called back here. From what I

CHAPTER 106: The She-AlphaMaverick’s POV: The way to the FireHeart pack was quiet and filled with tension. No one dared to speak, nor even breathe too loud, afraid of shattering the fragile peace. I sat in the backseat of the SUV, my mind far away as I stared at the passing trees, thinking of everything and nothing in particular. My escort wasn’t much. I let Derick stay in control of the pack, overseeing pack affairs until I got back, while Natalie, Scott, a few Ministers, and guards followed me, separated by individual cars. “No matter how much I think and rehearse the conversation I would have with the Alpha of FireHeart pack, I just don’t seem to get it. How would I relate with someone I barely even know?” I finally spoke about the major conflict that has plagued my mind, my eyes shifting from the moving road and towards Scott who sat in the front seat beside the driver. “Discussing diplomatic issues with a lady, it’s weird.”Natalie, who sat beside me turned to glare at me, h

My throat tightened as I stood frozen, my gaze fixed on her protruding stomach. I had expected many things upon entering the FireHeart borders yet, nothing prepared me for this sight that shocked me to the core. The priest continued, “Bow to your Queen.”I was in too much shock to move an inch, only when Natalie’s hand grasped mine, forcing me to one knee, did I tear my gaze away from her. How’s this possible? What’s going on?Is this a joke? It couldn’t be. My eyes aren’t deceiving me, or is it?Pyra?I dar

CHAPTER 108: The HurtPyra’s POVI entered my chambers, slamming the door hard against the wall as the strength of the impact caused the ground to shake, but I didn’t care. My hands trembled, not from fear, but with the raw anger that boiled inside of me, one that had been building ever since Maverick entered my throne room, bringing that…Bringing her. I sat on the bed, breathing hard as I gritted my teeth. He was here, and he dared bring that vile woman into my kingdom, into my presence, and flaunt her as his Luna. Sitting wasn’t helping and I stood up and began pacing as my heart pounded in my chest. Maverick and Natalie. The very thought of them being together made my blood boil. After everything he’s done, after rejecting me, after that bitch tried to kill me, he dared to show up like this? With that witch by his side, even dared to claim to be his mate. “Arghh,” I screamed, angrily throwing the glass of wine against the large mirror. The mirror shattered under the pressure a

The smell of antiseptic didn't bother him, for he has gotten used to it since most of his time was spent here. “Everything needs to be perfect and in motion,” he said to himself, despite his pack suffering due to most of the resources having been spent on the experiment and project. The RedClaw pack is now a shadow of its former glory, and all due to their Alpha’s quest for power. Even the Minister of External Affairs from the great FireHeart pack had extended concerns to the RedClaw pack concerning their lack of resources, but Alpha Duncan has ignored all their messages, for he knew the great benefits his experiment would behold. “Those bastards won’t let me be. This is the fucking sacrifice I had to give for greatness,” Duncan muttered to himself, drowning in another bottle of whisky. He stared at the now half-empty bottle of wh

CHAPTER 110: The Queen And The Alpha Maverick’s POVI stood frozen, the weight of her command rendering me unable to move, unable to speak as I watched the fury blaze in her eyes. Pyra—no, Rhaella—had every right to be angry, but the weight of her stare made my chest tighten like a vice.“I know you hate me now,” I finally managed, my voice low, dangerously close to breaking. I took a step closer, desperate to close the thick chasm between us, but she moved back instantly, her movements sharp and unyielding.I took another step closer and she took a simultaneous one backward. “Don’t come close, Alpha. Stay the fuck away from me.” Her hands shot up, trembling but resolute, a barrier I dared not cross. “Stay as far away from me as possible.”Her defiance stung. I could feel the anger and hatred coming from her and it did nothing to my throbbing heart. I knew I shouldn’t push her further, not now. Not when she was standing here, alive, after I thought I’d lost her forever.“Pyra… Rhael

CHAPTER 111: The Lingered EyesNatalie’s POV: The bungalow given to us was unlike anything I’d imagined—spacious, and modern. The long, opened-roof hallway stretched ahead of me, lined with individual doors, each leading to a private apartment. Everyone had their own space, a sanctuary within the shared home. Privacy here wasn’t just a luxury; it was a necessity.Maverick’s room stood opposite mine, and as I heard voices coming from outside, I went to check, instinctively only to get to the window facing his room to see two people dressed in black. One was a man, and the other, was a woman with her face covered with a veil, but a part of her red locks showed underneath the veil, and instantly, I knew who she was. “Pyra,” I growled lowly, staying by the side of the wall in order to shield myself from their eyes, my ears alert.“What was she doing here? The weight of frustration sat heavily on my chest as I clutched my phone, my grip tightening with each passing second that passed by. I had been calling nonstop, yet my mother kept my calls busy. Every time I tried again, the line went straight to voicemail. It was obvious she was avoiding me. My breath came out sharp as I ran a hand through my hair, trying to calm my nerves but to no avail. Everything was going bad, the walls of the guesthouse felt like they were closing in, suffocating me in complete silence. I checked the screen of my phone, waiting for it to flash with an expected call but nothing. I needed answers and I wanted them now. With a deep inhale, I forced myself to think logically. CHAPTER 153 : Not The Prisoner Third person’s POV:The bedroom was large and vast, bathed in the soft glow from the chandelier hung high from the room, seated perfectly on the ceiling as its glow cast radiant light against the deep, midnight-blue walls. The air smelled of fresh lilies and aged books, a mixture of both elegance and slight solitude, one not favored by one woman in particular. The same woman who stood by the window, her silhouette framed against the clearing beyond. She was still—almost eerily so—her fingers grazing the barricaded window as if reaching for something beyond it that couldn’t be seen, or someone. Her long black hair cascaded down her back, giving her the structure of a perfect portrait of how still she was. She was dressed in a simple white nightgown and nothing else. Her whole focus was outside the window, hating the fact she was kept locked like a prisoner, her sense of freedom inhibited by this barricade, one she so desperately wanted to claw at. “Do

CHAPTER 152: Dig Up Dirt Luna Elodie’s POV: Hours had passed since I returned from the BloodMoon Pack. I had showered, had my dinner, and now paced my chamber, deep in thought. The meeting with Alpha Sam went smoother than I would have thought, and now, I agitatedly waited for his reply. I needed answers and I wanted them immediately. The crackling fire in the hearth did little to warm the cold creeping into my bones under the soft clothes I wore. He should have sent a message by now if my calculations were right. My eyes caught a glimpse of my phone flashing and I rushed over, seeing Maverick’s name as the caller ID. Dammit. I didn’t want to speak with him yet. I haven’t gotten the information I needed from Alpha Sam. I had been waiting for Sam’s call, an email, or even a messenger but I was greeted with none of that. I couldn’t reply to Maverick when I hadn’t gotten even a reply or answer to what I asked for. This was the first time Maverick had ever asked for my help in digg

CHAPTER 151: A Grimy Past AffairLuna Elodie’s POVI chuckled, tilting my head slightly, disbelief colouring my tone. “I fail to understand you, Alpha Sam. What did you just say?”There was no smile on his lips, the usual constant smirk all but history, but his eyes held something deeper—calculated curiosity, or perhaps something far more dangerous, but I also saw—truth. He leaned back in his chair, swirling the remaining wine in his glass. “Excuse me?” He asked smoothly, “Is it about the part where Alpha Thomson had a son of such age or what were you talking about?” He chuckled a little, staring at his glass. “Maybe I took a little too much wine.”I narrowed my eyes, studying him. Was he playing games? Or was he being truthful? Sam was many things—a strategist, a manipulator, a man who never let his guard down—but a liar? No. Not unless it fully benefits him, and from what I could think of, this won’t benefit him even in the slightest; I would make sure of that. “And here I was fla

CHAPTER 150: The Luna In BloodMoonLuna Elodie’s POV:The line went dead and I dropped the phone, my fingers lingering over the screen as confusion settled in my chest, a small crease forming around my brows. What is actually going on? Maverick never takes an interest in things without reason, but this… This felt different. It felt deeper. I shifted in my chair, trying to find a comfortable position to think, but unease had already seeped into my bones and muscles, causing taunting and discomfort. My office—the Alpha’s office, usually a place of comfort since Maverick’s trip to the FireHeart pack, now felt like a space filled with unanswered questions. “He’s taking this man—Steven Stoneclaw’s case—to another level,” I muttered, placing my chin in my hand, my elbow resting on the desk. My mind scaled through many possibilities, trying to piece together the fragments of information I had. “What did this man do that could drag Maverick’s attention this way?”Steven StoneClaw. The na

CHAPTER 149: Pathetic Reflection Maverick’s POV: I felt the familiar softness of her lips against mine, and in that fleeting moment, I wanted nothing more than to be forever trapped here—lost in her warmth, her fire, her everything. But the moment barely lasted. Before I could even deepen the kiss, let my lip dance against hers, before I could pull closer and let myself drown in her, Pyra shoved me back with enough force to send me stumbling. The warmth I felt disappeared, replaced by the cold of the atmosphere. Then—crack. A sharp painful sting erupted across the left of my chin as her palm connected with my skin, the sound of the slap echoing through the kitchen like a gunshot. My head snapped to the side due to the force of the slap, and for a brief second, all I could register was the biting, sharp and painful feeling left in its wake. Slowly, I turned to her, and she was fuming. Her breath came out sharp as her chest rose and fell in quick, furious breath, her crimson ey

CHAPTER 148: A Not So Blissful Morning Pyra’s POV: The first ray of the morning sun streamed through the large windows of my chambers, bathing the room in its golden glow and hence stirring me awake. I stretched on my bed, a strange yet exhilarating warmth filling my chest. I opened my eyes to stare at the ceiling, the beautiful intricate design of the dense carving so perfect that I only just noticed it now. A smile spread across my lips, and I raised a hand to touch it, confused by the cause of it. For some weird reason, I felt light. It was rare for me to wake up feeling this light, this… happy. And just thinking about it now, I knew exactly why. The smile that tugged at my lips spread even wider as I sat up. It wasn’t something I had planned or even wanted, but knowing that someone genuinely cared—someone who saw me beyond the title, beyond the responsibility, beyond any flaws and still gave a damn—made my heart soar. A giggle left my lips as I stood up, a burst of energy an

He walked silently as he moved along the stone path of the small garden bore by the guest house he was assigned to stay in, his hands tucked into his pockets, his mind replaying every moment from the past hour. Alpha Rhaella had finally cracked. He had seen it in her eyes—the uncertainty, the hesitation, the exposure of what she truly wanted. She was strong, but even the strongest had weaknesses, and that was her heart. The first rays of sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of forest trees above, casting long golden streaks over the ground. This was peaceful. The peace I wanted after the small stroll I’d done. The pack was already stirring—warriors returning from their night patrols, doors opening as mothers ushered their pups toward the training grounds, and other pack members busy with their daily schedules. I walked at a steady pace, my boots crunching against the gravel path. My mind, however, was far from the serene morning scene around me. Everything weighed on me now. Since Maverick had decided to continue staying at FireHeart pack, I had been preoccupied with pack matters, navigating the fragile balance of leadership until my son returned. As I approached t
