CHAPTER 103: Never Shield

Pyra’s POV

I sat behind my desk, slowly rolling the chair from side to side, the weight of my responsibilities pressing down on me, though it was nothing compared to the weight of the life stirring within me. I rested a hand on my rounded belly, feeling another strong kick that made me flinch.

“Alright, little ones,” I murmured with a small smile. These little ones are kicking the sense out of me. “I get it, you’re impatient, but just a little while. Let Mommy breathe a little.” They have been restless for days now, kicking hard into my bladder, which made me constantly urinate, but Veronica said it was normal.

It was surreal to think how much had changed in almost six months. Six months ago, I was no one—an omega, a runaway washed up on the shore, a rogue with no pack, no family. Now, I was the Queen of Alphas, carrying triplets and ruling over the very wolves who once doubted me. Fate had twisted my path in ways I could never have predicted.

CHAPTER 104: The Money TalkLuna Elodie's POV:I packed the scant evidence from Blackthorn’s chambers, my hands trembling as I forced myself to breathe steadily, locking the drawer. If this was well hidden by Blackthorn, it meant it was never meant to see the light of day. Once the room was locked behind me, I hurried down the dimly lit corridor, the eerie silence pressing on my senses as I listened for any sign that I was being watched or followed. My chambers felt like a sanctuary when I finally reached them, though my nerves were taut. Immediately, I reached for my bed, sliding the evidence beneath my pillow as I adjusted the silk coverlet just as the door swung open.I veered around in shock, seeing Maverick standing there, his piercing eyes scanning the room. “M-Maverick,” I stammered, forcing calm into my voice as I folded my hands around my chest. “To what do I owe this visit?”He stepped further inside, his gaze narrowing. “What are you doing, mother? Where have you been?”

CHAPTER 105: Queen Of Alphas Maverick’s POV:“Are you sure this newly crowned Alpha is not Luna Verona herself?” One of the ministers questioned, his words receiving nods and repose of murmurs from the ministers sitting around the table in the meeting room. “If the rumors we heard were correct, it was a female and not a male that was crowned and took the oath of leadership.”Another Minister pitched in, adjusting his spectacles. “I believe what our esteemed Minister says to be true. There is no limit to what Luna Verona FireHeart could do to maintain power within her grasp. For all we know, this might be another one of her plays.”The air grew dense as Scott, the Whisperer, and second-hand to late minister Blackthorn, lifted his hand as if asking for permission to speak. I nodded, granting him. “Gentlemen,” Scott began, his voice smooth and calculated, “If I may. I had stayed in the FireHeart pack as a spy and whisperer for quite some time before I was called back here. From what I

CHAPTER 106: The She-AlphaMaverick’s POV: The way to the FireHeart pack was quiet and filled with tension. No one dared to speak, nor even breathe too loud, afraid of shattering the fragile peace. I sat in the backseat of the SUV, my mind far away as I stared at the passing trees, thinking of everything and nothing in particular. My escort wasn’t much. I let Derick stay in control of the pack, overseeing pack affairs until I got back, while Natalie, Scott, a few Ministers, and guards followed me, separated by individual cars. “No matter how much I think and rehearse the conversation I would have with the Alpha of FireHeart pack, I just don’t seem to get it. How would I relate with someone I barely even know?” I finally spoke about the major conflict that has plagued my mind, my eyes shifting from the moving road and towards Scott who sat in the front seat beside the driver. “Discussing diplomatic issues with a lady, it’s weird.”Natalie, who sat beside me turned to glare at me, h

CHAPTER 107: Face-off MAVERICK’S POV:“You stand before Her Royal Majesty, the protector of the Lunaria, protector of the world of beast and humans, the daughter of Alpha Xavier FireHeart and Luna Verona FireHeart, the true bearer of the Crimson bloodline that binds the ancient wolves to the heart of the moon itself, the Queen of the realm, and the Alpha of Alphas; Alpha Rhaella FireHeart!”The words of the priest echoed through the vast, stone hall of the crimson throne room. My throat tightened as I stood frozen, my gaze fixed on her protruding stomach. I had expected many things upon entering the FireHeart borders yet, nothing prepared me for this sight that shocked me to the core. The priest continued, “Bow to your Queen.”I was in too much shock to move an inch, only when Natalie’s hand grasped mine, forcing me to one knee, did I tear my gaze away from her. How’s this possible? What’s going on?Is this a joke? It couldn’t be. My eyes aren’t deceiving me, or is it?Pyra?I dar

CHAPTER 108: The HurtPyra’s POVI entered my chambers, slamming the door hard against the wall as the strength of the impact caused the ground to shake, but I didn’t care. My hands trembled, not from fear, but with the raw anger that boiled inside of me, one that had been building ever since Maverick entered my throne room, bringing that…Bringing her. I sat on the bed, breathing hard as I gritted my teeth. He was here, and he dared bring that vile woman into my kingdom, into my presence, and flaunt her as his Luna. Sitting wasn’t helping and I stood up and began pacing as my heart pounded in my chest. Maverick and Natalie. The very thought of them being together made my blood boil. After everything he’s done, after rejecting me, after that bitch tried to kill me, he dared to show up like this? With that witch by his side, even dared to claim to be his mate. “Arghh,” I screamed, angrily throwing the glass of wine against the large mirror. The mirror shattered under the pressure a

CHAPTER 109: Whiskey Third person’s POV: Back at the RedClaw pack, Alpha Duncan sat on a chair, his face squeezed as he took another sip of his wine. The smell of antiseptic didn't bother him, for he has gotten used to it since most of his time was spent here. “Everything needs to be perfect and in motion,” he said to himself, despite his pack suffering due to most of the resources having been spent on the experiment and project. The RedClaw pack is now a shadow of its former glory, and all due to their Alpha’s quest for power. Even the Minister of External Affairs from the great FireHeart pack had extended concerns to the RedClaw pack concerning their lack of resources, but Alpha Duncan has ignored all their messages, for he knew the great benefits his experiment would behold. “Those bastards won’t let me be. This is the fucking sacrifice I had to give for greatness,” Duncan muttered to himself, drowning in another bottle of whisky. He stared at the now half-empty bottle of wh

CHAPTER 110: The Queen And The Alpha Maverick’s POVI stood frozen, the weight of her command rendering me unable to move, unable to speak as I watched the fury blaze in her eyes. Pyra—no, Rhaella—had every right to be angry, but the weight of her stare made my chest tighten like a vice.“I know you hate me now,” I finally managed, my voice low, dangerously close to breaking. I took a step closer, desperate to close the thick chasm between us, but she moved back instantly, her movements sharp and unyielding.I took another step closer and she took a simultaneous one backward. “Don’t come close, Alpha. Stay the fuck away from me.” Her hands shot up, trembling but resolute, a barrier I dared not cross. “Stay as far away from me as possible.”Her defiance stung. I could feel the anger and hatred coming from her and it did nothing to my throbbing heart. I knew I shouldn’t push her further, not now. CHAPTER 111: The Lingered EyesNatalie’s POV: The bungalow given to us was unlike anything I’d imagined—spacious, and modern. The long, opened-roof hallway stretched ahead of me, lined with individual doors, each leading to a private apartment. Everyone had their own space, a sanctuary within the shared home. Privacy here wasn’t just a luxury; it was a necessity.Maverick’s room stood opposite mine, and as I heard voices coming from outside, I went to check, instinctively only to get to the window facing his room to see two people dressed in black. One was a man, and the other, was a woman with her face covered with a veil, but a part of her red locks showed underneath the veil, and instantly, I knew who she was. “Pyra,” I growled lowly, staying by the side of the wall in order to shield myself from their eyes, my ears alert.“What was she doing here? And this late?” Normally, I would have interrupted them, for that bitch shouldn't be ten feet near Maverick, but the huge man in bla

I rushed into Pyra's penthouse of FireHeart, hoping I wasn’t too late. But when I got to the penthouse, Rhaella wasn’t there. “No, no, no.” I turned away, rushing to the halls of the FireHeart pack, shouting to the nearby pack members. “Where’s the Alpha? Where’s my mate?”The pack member opened her mouth to answer, but no sound came. Her eyes widened—fixed on something behind me. I turned, my heart thudding.Luna Verona stood at the top of the staircase, her long blood-red cloak trailing behind her like a storm cloud. Her expression was unreadable, but her eyes—those fierce dark eyes—held something deeper. One I couldn’t decipher. “Where is she?” I demanded before she could even speak. “Where are the kids?”She descended slowly, deliberately, her heeled boots echoing off the stone floor like a countdown to war. “The kids are fine

CHAPTER 178: DUNCAN ALL ALONGPyra’s POV: It all made sense now. Everything, every piece—like shattered glassware slowly forming a whole again. How didn’t I see this? The lies. The secrecy. The way Steven had always been adamant in knowing everything. The way Steven—no, Caspian—always seemed he was holding back a part of himself like he didn’t belong… because he didn’t. He never did. Not here. Not with us.It all made sense why he was a nervous wreck after I told him he must come with me to the RedClaw pack. “You never know what is around you, Alpha Rhaella. You can sit on your throne, thinking all is safe but oblivious that the enemy can be near.” I recalled one of the strange conversations he had with me. At that moment, it didn’t make sense. I didn’t understand then. But now, I see it all. There was an enemy close by, a wolf wearing sheep’s clothing. And he had always been near. Always been by my side. Always been under my roof and I stupidly trusted this enemy. They had alw

CHAPTER 177: Into An AmbushPyra’s POV: My boots struck the earth. Even the dust couldn’t escape my wrath. Dust kicked up behind me in silent protest, but I didn’t stop. I didn’t flinch. I didn’t even blink. My mind was focused on getting to one place and they shall feel my wrath. The bodysuit I wore molded my frame like a second skin. Sleek and dull red. The material shimmered faintly under the dimming light—thick enough to shield me in combat, yet light enough to move without restriction. It was the mark of the crimson Alphas. An armor they wore in times of battles. One that designates fear, not for any weapon, but the fire in our blood. The bodysuit clung to my form like armor, laced with leather straps and reinforced at the joints for agility and stealth. The style was ancient—Myrrakai, they call it, just like in the legends told of my ancestors centuries ago. No one has worn it for centuries, until me. A silver blade was strapped across my back, its hilt still warm from my gr

CHAPTER 176: A Name To The Gray EyesMaverick’s POV:I walked into my mother’s chamber, still feeling the remnant of her perfume lingering in the air. It was faint now, almost to the point of disappearance. Almost like a fading memory, but unmistakably hers—warm lavender and crushed rose petals. The scent clung to the silk sheet, the walls, the drapes… as if the room itself was infused entirely by her and refused to forget her. My chest tightened. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that she was truly gone. Forever. Yet, everything in here screamed her presence. My heart screamed for her. I stared at everything in the chamber. Her crystal paintbrush she cherished so much, her favorite painting bearing an image of her, me… and my father. Everything now stayed untouched, preserved like relics of a time I’d do anything to return to. I hated this feeling. I stood, watching everything like it was the first time I saw them before finally, I walked deeper into the room and sa

The entire pack was in peril, everyone felt the sorrow of loss. Even the air dared not disturb the thick silence that enveloped the whole place. All around me, faces were etched with pain—eyes red from the constant crying, lips trembling with the weight of the looming silence. Even the strongest among us were brought low by the tragedy that had befallen the pack.My two sons stayed beside me, watching the event unfold. I dared not allow them a few feet away from me after what happened to Zerek. Never. Everything was happening too fast. Too fast for me to control. It was like everywhere I turned, danger, pain, and loss filled there already. I opened my eyes, and the small light of the morning filtered into my eyes from the window.I blinked against the sting, groaning softly as I stirred from sleep. It was still too early in the morning but I was awake, energized. My body felt heavy, like it wanted more sleep—even though I knew I overslept. I turned on my side, dragging a hand over my face to wipe off the remnants of the strange unease clinging to me. Something felt… off.I didn’t know how to explain it as I stared at the ceiling but I felt that today wasn’t just going to be a normal day. I sat up slowly, rubbing my temples. The scent of the morning breeze drifted in, mixed with the faint perfume of pine from the woods beyond. My throat itched with thirst and I reached for the bottle of water beside my bed only to feel something crisp. I frowned, turning to see a letter sitting right there. CHAPTER 173: An Empty CradlePyra’s POV:Cold. That was all I could feel. It slipped into my bones, tearing at me from the inside. I couldn’t move, barely able to breathe except for the cold moisture that was so dense that it felt like I was breathing in water. I took another painful breath in, choking on it immediately. My choking seemed to snap me out of whatever I was in because one moment I could feel my eyes closed permanently shut, and air as thick and dense as liquid entering my lungs, and the next moment, I stood before a forest. The trees towered over all, animals ran into their hiding spots as if running from something dangerous. The branches of the towering trees crept like hands, promising a destructive hug but even with that, nothing could hide what hung prominently in the sky, casting red lights that bathed the ground. The moon. It was bleeding a bright crimson red. I veered around, searching all around me. As strange as this place was, it was familiar. I didn’t kno

Not even the stars dared to blink. The once lively whispers of the wind had grown still, and even the wolves, proud guardians of the night, were silent—watching, waiting. And the lands of the FireHeart pack were not immune to this. Deep in the darkness, a pair of dark eyes blinked, making his way straight into the path where a lady waited patiently for him. Immediately he was in, she shut the door. “I’ve been waiting for this,” Maverick said, impatiently going to hold Rhaella’s hand, his body almost gluing to hers.
