CHAPTER 63: Bile

Pyra’s POV

I sat down on my bed, thinking of how I would go to the hospital. I had no chores for the day, thankfully.

Resting my head back on the pillow, I realized I was unarguably weak today. It has been a rollercoaster for awhile as the pack has witnessed a lot of unambiguous events. Since the matter with the peacemaker, the pack has become eerily quiet as everyone felt a glooming shadow hovering over them. To each their own, indeed. But gradually, I believe the pack will return to its bustling activities.

As I lay on the bed, I suddenly felt a wave of nausea hit me, bile rising from my throat. I grimaced as a violent stump rose from my chest causing me to clutch my chest. I felt the acidic taste of bile burn the back of my throat. I swallowed deeply, trying to cool it with some saliva as my body suddenly felt heavy.

I shook my head, the room tilting to the side slightly and the edge of my vision blurring.

I forced myself to sit up, breathing heavily to calm mys

CHAPTER 64: The Fool In The Game Luna Elodie’s POV One week had passed since I sent Mr. Connor to investigate and gather more about Pyra, and my patience was wearing thin. The silence from his end felt suffocating, and it gnawed at my nerves. I leaned back a little in my chair, letting my eyes wander over the piece of art I’d drawn earlier. It was simple yet detailed to perfection—a sketch of the crescent moon encircled by flames. The same flames that symbolize the era of the crimson wolves centuries ago. A flame that represented their uniqueness and strength, while the moon represented their resilience. I traced a finger over the delicate lines of the painting, sighing. “Resilience,” I murmured to myself, picking up a paintbrush and adding the last touch to the painting. “But at what cost?” A soft knock at the door interrupted my thoughts. “Come in,” I said, I waited as the door creaked open, and the scent of Connor wafted into my nostrils. “Any news?” I didn’t

CHAPTER 65: Two Distinct LinesPyra’s POV:The silence in the lab was thick like a fog I couldn’t wade through. I glanced up at Veronica who worked opposite me, her hands steady as she mixed the potions, and her brows furrowed in concentration. The rhythmic clink of glasses and the faint bubbling of liquid in the apparatus were the only sounds in the lab, yet they felt deafening in the stillness.Veronica has begun making a medicine for my sudden illness, but she didn’t want to tell me what it was, saying until she was 100% sure. I looked down at the portion, turning it slowly to recognize the ingredients. I should’ve been able to name every ingredient, every herb, every mineral she used. It was my craft and domain after all. But as I stared into the swirling liquid before me, for the first time in my life, my mind drew blank. The mixture shimmered with an iridescence I couldn’t place, a mystery even to me.“You sure that’s for me—“ I wasn’t able to complete my sentence as my sto

CHAPTER 66: Can't Breathe Pyra’s POV I panicked. Why wouldn’t I? Two lines. I couldn't breathe. My breathing hitched in my throat. “No, no. This couldn’t be…” I gasped, shaking my head and body as if the sheer denial I emitted could alter this reality. “I-I can’t be. No!” Two lines. Two. I backed away from the sink, my back hitting the door as my legs trembled beneath me. What would this mean for me? For him? Just the thought of his name sent a fresh wave of nausea crashing over me—not just a physical one, but raw emotion. I choked on a sob. “Pyra?” Veronica’s worried voice came through the door, this time firmer than before as I heard footsteps approaching. “Pyra, is everything okay? Please talk to me.” Her voice was accompanied by a light knock on the door. Breath, Pyra. Breath. I opened the door to the bathroom slowly, just enough for her to step in. She stared at me, her eyes darting from my pale face to the test strip lying on the edge of the sink. She need

CHAPTER 67: An Unexpected FacePyra’s POV:The end of our shift couldn’t come soon enough. My breathing was laboured as I and Veronica raced out of the hospital, embracing the cold evening air as it hit our faces. We had been brainstorming, spending most of the day weighing our options—whether Veronica should write a formal request to Luna, asking permission for me to stay with her and her family. It seemed like it was the only way forward instead of staying back in the pack if ever the information about my condition got out. Everything about the plan to request Luna’s permission was great, but there was one looming problem—her father. Would he even agree to this arrangement? It was a question that hung between us like a storm cloud refusing to clear up. The elevator finally chimed and the doors opened to the bustling grind floor, and as we hurried out, my shoulder collided with someone—hard. I stumbled back, almost falling if not for Veronica catching me just in time. I looked up

I kept on replaying the confrontation I had with Maverick in my mind. “How dare he think of leaving me?” I spat, my voice trembling with rage. My hands balled into fists as my pace quickened. It wasn’t just him, no, it was more—it was her!My eyes narrowed as her image flashed in my mind, that wretched ginger freak. Even in her death, she still tormented me, taking the heart of the man I loved. If only there was a way to kill her not once, but a million times, I would do it without hesitation. “FUCK!” I shouted at the top of my lungs, unable to conceal the whirlpool of anger that surged from within. Madraya met my gaze; hers’ was unflinching, never staring away for even a second. “Have you met her before?” The sound of Mr. Hargrove’s voice shattered the silence of the house, and I turned to see him looking at Madraya, his eyes holding confusion. Madraya gave a cold smile, one that spoke of something that could shatter my very existence. “Let’s say we had a little hope—““Okay, Dad.” Veronica interrupted Madraya, facing her father. “We just came back from a long day in the hospital and need much rest. She opened it and took a drink of fresh soda. “And who in the hell has your permission to walk into my refrigerator, and take whatever you desire?” His voice was one of displeasure and shock as he stared at Madraya who mindlessly finished the can, gulping loudly as she rubbed her stomach in satisfaction, moaning in delight. The branches of the towering trees crept like hands, promising a destructive hug but even with that, nothing could hide what hung prominently in the sky, casting red lights that bathed the ground. It was like he had just taken a bath, his hair a slightly rough mat, pulled back roughly as if he didn’t have time to properly comb it but for some weird reason, it made him look more incredibly handsome. I didn’t notice he was holding something until he was close to me before my gaze shifted towards his hands. There was a bouquet of flowers in one hand and in the other, what looked to be a gift box was present. I was silent as he stopped before me, my gaze still fixed on the gift box. What could be inside?
