'Whoosh...pfff...puff...whizzz'
I could feel the gust of wind whispering to my ears as it blew hard on my face. It was an airy evening around 5pm and I was strolling back home with both my hands dipped into the pocket of the jean trouser I was wearing; trying to console myself from feeling sad. I had just lost a job interview for a salesperson role in a pharmacy that was only few blocks away from where i lived; one of the vacancies I've been vying for about a week now, so that I could atleast support my mom offset some bills at home.Living with my mom has always been trying -- a bitter sweet experience for the both of us, especially when she got divorced to my dad. I was only 13 years of age when that happened - a memory I could never truly erase as it broke me down each time I thought about it, filling me with unquenchable resentment towards my dad! I mean, I have always admired my parents love life throughout the early years of my childhood but when they got separated, I began to question the subject love and if it was ever real -- which is why I vowed never to venture into it because I wasn't ready to get my heart broken like my mom did, even though she seemed to have gotten over it as the years passed. My entanglements with various girls was only a mere fling; they meant nothing to me -- absolutely nothing!I halted my steps stealthily in front of our palour door as I reached, inhaling deeply to calm myself from being nervous - even my tummy churned when the thought of my failed interview flashed again in my head.'Mtcheww... Now what do I tell my mom if she asks me about the job interview?' I thought rhetorically to myself and heaved a deep sigh as i twisted the door handle; pushing it open to enter inside. Then I turned my gaze to the right and saw my mom standing in the centre of the palour with her phone placed on her right ear - speaking and laughing as she was on a call with someone."Oh! Speaking of Liam, he just got back home" my mom exclaimed heartily over the phone as she turned to face my direction with a sheepish smile that got me more curious than pleased.'Good lord! Now who is she talking to about me?' I mumbled inaudibly to myself, closing the door gently before moving forward to stand behind a couch that was closer to my mom with a questioning look on my face.So my mom lowered the phone and covered the mouthpiece with her left palm before saying to me in a soft whisper "Liam, am on the phone with your dad, come say hi to him... He really misses hearing your voice."'He really misses hearing my voice?' this phrase re-echoed ironically in my mind as I scoffed; it sounded almost like a joke in my ears. How could he possibly say that he misses my voice when he barely paid us visits on Christmas days? Well, it was left for my mom to believe in his lie, but I wasn't ready to be fooled! Infact, any father-son feelings I had towards him was gradually dying."I don't care mom... Just tell him I said hi" I replied bluntly with a disappointing roll of my eyes before walking for my room."Hey Carl errrm listen... Liam is kind of in a rush to somewhere and couldn't wait to speak with you -- but he said hi though. Maybe some other time." My mom's nervous voice faded behind me at a distance as she spoke over the phone with my dad, trying to cover up for my not speaking to him. I didn't mean to act rudely, but my mom should have known better than to suggest or even insist on me speaking with him.'Whaaam!' My room door made a loud bang as I slammed it shut. I could feel my chest heaving from the anger that was gradually growing inside; everything about today just seemed to be walking against me!So I pulled off the t-shirt I was wearing and flung it carelessly on a portable sofa inside my room before moving towards the bed. Then just as I was about lowering myself to sit, I paused and turned to face my room door when I heard someone approaching; clearly, it had to be my mom, and I could guess that she was angry from the sound of her hasty footsteps resounding accross the corridor."Seriously Liam?!" My mom's stem voice broke out in anger as she barged into my room - placing her right hand on her waist with an angry frown on her face.I brushed my hair backwards with my right palm as I stood near my bed to give my mom a remorseful stare; Maybe I went out of line with the way I responded to her earlier - infact I think I did, and I was beginning to feel sorry. So I exhaled sharply and said to my mom in a low voice "Mom, I didn't mean to...""When Liam?... When are you going to grow up? Whatever resentment you have towards your dad should end! ..It's been 8 years since he left us, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be part of your life because he should!" My mom yelled at me, talking slow steps towards my direction as she spoke. Her words were harsh and cold it got me so emotional, causing the expression on my face to fade into a sad but angry look."Well, he doesn't have to be part of my life and I don't want him to be!" I choked out in anger as I responded to my mom; clenching my right fist hard in a bid to keep my temper in check, but it wasn't working for me at all, and I was damn sure my mom could tell that I was angry. So she heaved out a deep sigh while rubbing her forehead with her right hand before giving me a consoling stare and said "Look honey, what I only meant was that -- I mean, you're 23 now and...""Which is a more reason you should accept my decisions because am no longer a kid anymore" I said bluntly as I interrupted my mom who was no longer angry but was now smiling softly at me in a consoling manner which almost made me cry - filling me with guilt because I wanted her to stay angry so it could justify my own anger. "And how could you mom? -- talking so freely with him like he never broke your heart? All those nights i'd walk into your room to see you crying, yet now you act like you never remembered those days... why mom, just tell me why?" I asked my mom in a sober voice with my eyes becoming a bit moist as I stood, giving her a questioning stare while she stood facing me without saying a word. Then I shook my head in bitter disappointment and collapsed to sit on my bed before lowering my gaze at my feet as annoying thoughts about my dad trickled into my head."Look son... I know I was mad when your dad left me for another... But, I -- I have been able to let go off that hurt and forgive him" my mom said softly in a low voice, moving slowly towards my bed as she spoke. Then I lifted my head and turned to look at her when she lowered herself to sit beside me on the bed."Mom, weren't you two in love or was he just lying to you?" I asked giving her a searching gaze. This particular question oftentimes troubled me whenever I thought about them -- a question I could never truly give an answer to!"No no... Your dad wasn't lying when he told me years back that he loved me, and I wasn't lying either." My mom chuckled in response. "Pfff... It's just that along the line, we lost the chemistry we used to have and he met someone else... But listen hun, your dad is a good man and I don't bear any grudge with him leaving us and neither should you" she concluded calmly with a warm smile on her face.I scoffed and lowered my head back without saying a word to her; my mind was made and nothing could change that -- not even the nice and sweet things my mom was filling my ears with about my dad."When you truly love someone, all you want is their happiness -- even if it means you letting them go" My mom said in a whisper, cupping my left cheek affectionately with her right palm before slowly turning my head so our eyes could meet. "And when the time is right, I know you'll fall in love with someone that will make you feel complete and alive" She added teasingly with a motherly smile on her face."Pfff... That's if I ever consider falling for anyone because love for me is a no go." I heaved out in a sarcastic tone which my mom found to be a little amusing."Seriously Liam?... So what about that girl Shelly that you usually hang around with -- I thought you guys had a thing?" My mom said with a brief laugh, giving me an inquisitive look as she waited patiently for my response."A thing for Shelly?!" I retorted sarcastically with my eyes wide in amusing shock; a mere thought of me being in a relationship with Shelly made me laugh, she was only some chick -- a girl I could pleasure with. Afterall, she was the one throwing herself at me and not the other way around."I don't have a thing for Shelly mom... We're just friends and nothing more, so I'll advice you stop filling your head with fantasies" I chuckled jokingly, looking at my mom who sat upright as she retreated her hand from my cheek."Oh okay!... I stand corrected" my mom exclaimed, raising both hands up her chest level in a playful manner before lowering them on her laps as her giggling subsided. I must confess, i felt a feeling of warmth engulf my body, making me a bit remorseful than angry as I kept my gaze fixed on my mom with a relieved smile on my face; even with our differences, she always had her way of consoling me -- one of the things I love so about my mom."Listen mom urrrh..." I said cluelessly and paused, moving my right hand slowly to hold her left hand which rested ontop her thighs. "Am sorry for the way I acted earlier mom... I didn't mean to sound disrespectful" I apologized, giving my mom a gloomy look as she leveled her gleeful gaze at me."It's okay... Am not offended" My mom replied, squeezing my right hand tight before wrapping it with her right hand. "I just don't want you to be hard on yourself" She added with a broadened smile on her face before pulling me closely for a hug."Thanks mom" I whispered softly with my lips behind her left ear while her hands rubbed and patted my bareback in a consoling manner. Then suddenly, my heart skipped when I lifted my gaze and saw someone standing in front of my room entrance as my door remained wide open."Shelly!" I blurted out in a surprised tone as I pulled away from my mom who slowly turned to look at her."Good afternoon Mrs Rose" Shelly greeted heartily with a wide grin, holding a fancy handbag while her left leg wiggled impatiently; only I could understand her impatience, she was horny, and so was I - maybe not before but now actually! Just seeing her standing, seductively dressed in a lovely pleated gown made my mind race wildly in lustful desire. What heightened my arousal the most was that her gown leveled couple inches above her knees, revealing her healthy thighs. Shelly was in no doubt a beauty, average height, dark chocolate skinned in complexion with a lovely voice and above all, she had class! She's a girl every guy my age will kill to have, but certainly not me as she was far from being my taste -- the only reason I was still hanging with her was because she was so damn good in bed. Plus, she also knew how to turn me on."Hi Shelley... Welcome" I said, clearing my dry throat awkwardly before...[To Be Continued]...crossing my legs with my di*k in between, trying to hide it from bulging through my trouser - atleast not in the presence of my mom!"You're welcome dear" My mom said warmly to Shelly before standing up from the bed. "Am off to get some groceries at the store... And I hope your friend is staying over for dinner?" My mom asked in a teasing voice as she leveled her gaze at me."Sure mom... She will" I answered, smiling softly before turning my head to look at Shelly who was smiling back at me from where she stood. "Good... Let me leave you two" My mom concluded and moved towards Shelly who gently closed my room door as soon as she left."Baby!" Shelly called out in a hearty romantic voice as she walked forward and stood in front of me with a teasing smirk on her face. "Hm-mm" I hummed playfully and uncrossed my legs while fixing my eyes on hers. Then Shelly dropped the fancy handbag she was holding on the floor and climbed up the bed to kneel over my legs - wrapping them in betwee
my mom's voice filtered into my room as the door swung open."Liam, I thought you told me Shelly was staying over for dinner, so why did I see her leaving?" She asked, holding the door knob with her left hand while glancing suspiciously on my waistline as I buckled my belt before raising my head to give her a searching stare. I couldn't tell exactly what was running through my mom's mind, but I was sure she knew somehow that I and Shelly had sex during her absence. "Well she changed her mind mom" I answered bluntly and moved towards the sofa to pick up the t-shirt I removed earlier."And why?" My mom asked, giving me an inquisitive look while I hurriedly wore my shirt. "I dunno mom" I answered immediately with a shrug and turned to face my mom who was wearing a frown; even she could tell that I was trying to hide something from her. "She didn't just want to stay and it's fine -- I don't care!" I exclaimed with my voice slightly raised before walking past my mom as I came out of my
"Good evening sir" I greeted in a polite voice as I gradually brought myself to a halt and stood beside the man who dipped his phone back into his pocket and slowly turned to face me. "Yes good evening" He responded, giving me a questioning stare while placing both hands into his trouser pocket, as if shielding them from the biting cold; it was the winter season and the night during this period was always cold. I could tell from the man's casual outfit and expensive shoe that he was an up and doing fellow - someone who was financial stable and in his late 40's. Whatever I was about saying to him had better be well constructed as I was looking to make a good impression. So I cleared my throat briefly - wearing a courteous smile on my face and said to the man "Please pardon my intrusion, but I overheard you speaking on the phone that you were in need of someone who could work for you in taking care of the lawn in your house" "Yeah sure, I am looking for someone for that... Wait" The
"That will be my dad" Chloe chuckled softly and was about turning to go call her dad when she heard his fast paced footsteps gradually approaching behind towards our direction. "Oh! here he comes" Chloe said to me in a low voice and shifted, giving her dad more room as he came and stood in front of me - dressed in a finely fitted black suit and holding a briefcase. Then he switched the briefcase to his left hand and extended his right hand to me for a handshake, saying "Liam, so glad you could make it before I leave for work." "Yes... And I must say, you look good sir" I replied with a courteous tease - glancing briefly at Chloe who stood beside us with a friendly smile on her face."Well thank you" Mr Williams said as we retreated our hands - adjusting his tie while giving me a purposeful look. "So as for the job, I'll like you to..." I gradually lost attention to what Mr Williams was saying when my gaze drifted to look at Chloe who left us and moved into the house with her curv
"What's up Liam... Am on my way to your house" Andrew's voice rang into my ear from my phone's earpiece. "Uh... No don't!" I exclaimed sharply. "Why? -- or wait... You have some chick around and you don't want me to ruin your show right?" Andrew chuckled over the phone. Then I shook my head amusingly and said in a playful tone "Seriously bro, can you ever stay a day without thinking of ladies huh?""Okay okay" Andrew replied in between his laughter before clearing his throat and said. "So what are you up to?""Nothing much... Just went out early for a job interview" I answered with a wide grin on my face - turning around slowly before leaning my butt on the wooden table inside the garage."Woa!... Tell me, have you gotten a job and when are you starting?" Andrew asked over the phone with his voice sounding very surprised. "Hm-mm" I hummed softly with a nod of my head. "And I've started today... Infact, I was about working before your call came in" I added in a hearty voice - turnin
.. biting the wall of my stomach. I arrived at home few minutes later and went straight to meet my mom who was at the dinning room - dusting the table with a dry clothe when she suddenly raised her gaze and noticed me approaching."Honey, you look so exhausted" My mom said as she stood erect to face me the moment I came closer, standing at the opposite end of the dinning table."Good afternoon mom" I heaved in a low breathless voice - pulling an empty chair back before collapsing on it to sit."You must be hungry, let me go get your lunch" My mom said with a soft smile - placing her left hand under my chin before moving past me for the kitchen to get a plate of whatever she must have prepared. "Here you go" her voice sounded the moment she returned into the dining room, leveling a plate of food with a glass of water on the table in front of me before sitting down on an empty chair closer to mine. My tummy rumbled hungrily when the aroma of the beans filled my nose as I inhaled - l
Then she immediately stood up from the table and reached out to hold my left hand, saying "Follow me""Okay" I agreed cluelessly, following behind Chloe who pulled me along as she walked out of the garage entrance and headed straight towards the back of their enormous house - a section I had never ventured into; making me wonder why she never included the area on my first day when her dad Instructed her to show me around."Here we are" Chloe said in a low but cheerful voice and let go of my hand as we came to a stop; standing to face a brown coloured portable playhouse that could contain not less than 3 persons in it. "Wow... It's -- it's lovely" I exclaimed in a somewhat startled tone, glancing briefly at Chloe who stood by my left side with a wide grin on her face."I know right" she giggled rhetorically with both hands clamped below her tummy in excitement. Although it wasn't quite what I expected her to show me, yet I was still glad by the fact she did which meant she was beginni
'Hi... Can we meet?' Was the message she sent to me.So I shook my head and gave out a sarcastic scoff while placing my phone back Into my pocket before walking towards the main road ahead to get a cab. I ARRIVED home few minutes later and noticed my mom dressed, busying around the palour like she was preparing to go out. "Mom... You look -- what should I say, stunning" I chuckled in a teasing voice as I entered the house, shutting the palour door gently behind me while my gaze remained fixed at my mom who stood erect with a wide grin on her face. She was literally glowing - almost as though she was excited about something. "Are you going ou... Wait! -- Is it what I think it is?" I gasped sharply with an amused look as I moved forward and stood in front of my mom who was dressed in a black gown which hung nicely over her shoulders - revealing her mature and elegant features. My mom wasn't all that advanced in age; infact, she was only 45 years and still looking very attractive en
"Hey hey..." I exclaimed in panick, rushing forward to shield the Jamaican guy with my arms spread apart. "Step aside bro" Andrew instructed under clenched jaw, placing his left palm under his right hand to steady his aim at the Jamaican guy whose hand was now gripping the revolver gun in his waistline. "Chill.. can everyone just put their guns down!" I yelled, wincing slightly from the pain I felt on my jaw as I shouted. "And why the fu*k should we do that?" Ramirez countered with his eyes still glued on the guy behind me."Because he saved our lives -- both of us" I answered plainly and looked at Andrew. "Trust me man, we would have been dead if not for him -- please, lower your guns down." Andrew hesitated for a brief moment, inhaling deeply before lowering his gun down. Then he turned sideways to give Ramirez and Anthony a nod of his head which they obediently obliged and lowered their guns down. I heaved a deep breath and lowered my arms before stepping aside to stand with Ch
My only prayer now was for Chloe to be found and safe back home in the arms of her mom, with or without me being there to see it happen because at this point, I had zero hope in escaping the Jamaican or being rescued. *****"Pull up here --" he said to the taxi driver and compelled me to pay the transport fare the moment we reached the destination. Then we both came out of the car and the taxi driver sped off. I gulped hard as I stood motionless, facing the old cranky gate of the former swan high school. The site has been abandoned for some years now with claims of some politician making plans to buy the whole place for the purpose of turning it into a factory. This was a very quiet environment -- almost like the abandoned factory Kelvin had me and Andrew taken to be killed. So with every courage i could muster in me, I turned to face the Jamaican guy who stood behind, pointing his gun directly at my abdomen. "Look man -- I never shot at your brother, I wasn't even with a...""Too l
"I think... She's been shot by the hitman" I managed to say in a breathless whisper with my eyes flickering - struggling to fight back the tears that welled up. "Oh no..." Andrew gasped and pulled away. "We have to get to her... Quick, get in the car" he said in panick, moving to the side and opened the driver's door. "Goddam Liam... We don't have much time" he growled when he noticed me leaning instead of moving to enter the car. "Okay" I sniffed and pulled away, placing my right hand on the car to balance my staggering frame as I walked and entered the passenger seat with Andrew turning on the ignition switch before he sped us out of the garage for my house. *****WE NOTICED a police car parked on the road in front of my house entrance the minute we arrived."Who's he talking to?" Andrew asked with our gazes looking out through his driver window when we noticed a middle aged police man standing in front of our palour entrance, writing something on a small note as he conversed wi
She pulled it down and whispered to my face in a concerned voice. "Can I come by the house later this evening?" "Yea... Sure you can." I forced a smile and leaned in to give her a brief kiss on the lips. "Now, let's get you in a taxi."Few minutes later, the taxi drove off with her before I entered another one that took me straight to Andrew father's old garage where we had first regrouped. WHEN I entered the garage, I found Anthony leaning his butt on the car parked inside with his hands folded - wearing a frightened look that got me dispirited. "Listen man, this shit is getting way out of hand" Andrew lamented with his arms spread apart as he trotted towards me. "What did you say happened to Miguel... Is he still alive?" I stopped in front of Andrew who was rubbing his sweaty forehead in panick. "He's on a fu*king stretcher inside an ambulance headed to the hospital as we speak" Andrew licked his lower lip, turning from side to side in anger. "Your boy Kelvin -- he needs to be
I lowered myself very slowly to sit on the couch next to hers. "Aha, Liam... Why are you here and not at work?" Shelly inquired in a surprised tone the moment she noticed my presence on entering the palour from the corridor. Then she sat on the same couch as my mom."He just got fired" My mom blurted plainly, expressing her disappointment as she turned to face Shelly who casted a shocked look at me."Why were you fired Liam?" Shelly asked with my mom now returning her gaze back at me. "I got -- Chloe pregnant, and she's my boss's daughter" I confessed to my mom under clenched jaw with my head sagged in cowardice. "What!" My mom's loud exclaim rose my head up at an instant. She seemed very shocked and raged at the same time. Then, her expression turned to that of surprise curiousity when she noticed how reserved and quiet Shelly was; after all, it was no big news to her since I already told her this morning before leaving the house."So -- you knew about this too?" She turned her bo
"Um.." I hesitated for a moment"Dad.. Liam and I want to see you and mom" Chloe informed before I could even make out the right words. 'what?!' I screamed in my head, looking briefly at Chloe from the corner of my eye as she casted a quick glance at me. "Okay, then let's go inside so your mom and I can hear what it is you have to tell us" Her dad turned and motioned for us to follow as he walked into the house. "Are you sure about this Chloe?" I used my left hand to clamp Chloe's right wrist in protest, bringing her steps to a abrupt halt. Then she turned halfway to face me and pulled her hand away from my grasp. "Let's just do this Liam... It's best if we tell them.""Right --" I mumbled, clearing my throat as I followed behind Chloe who led me Into the house and down to their large, elegantly furnished sitting room where we both sat on the same couch, facing her parents who sat side by side on the opposite couch. I couldn't help but rove my eyes in admiration, staring at the lar
We dodged incoming passersby, running like our lives depended on it with our arms spread evenly apart, swaying front and back like a pendulum. We had no single clue as to where we were actually heading to; all we wanted was to be out of sight from the stranger who was gradually closing in on us. Then straight ahead, we saw a crowd of teenagers approaching our direction. They looked like high school students on excursion with an adult male, leading the way with his hands pointing occasionally at buildings. "Quick, there's a path on your left" Andrew notified me in short breaths and rocked me hard to the bending with his left shoulder as we entered and continued running. The path was a bit narrow with walls of tall storey buildings line up - making it rather impossible for me and Andrew to run side by side. So he took to my front and led the way."Andrew?... Hey, there's a -- wired fence in front of us. What -- will we do?" I called out in worry with my voice slightly breaking in shor
"Um..." I gave out a low groan and rubbed my forehead with my right hand, making my final decision on what to say. "A man got shot beside me at the bar tonight, so his blood got splattered on my sweater?" I lied, turning my cowardly gaze to the side as if I was depressed by what I'd just said. "Oh dear!" Shelly gasped in a saddened voice and moved closer, turning my head to face her with both hands pressed against my cheeks. "I'm sure that must have been so terrifying for you to have witnessed" Her soft consoling whisper only woke the frightening images of tonight's attack. "Hm-mm" I hummed softly. Then I raised both my hands and curled my fingers around Shelly's wrist as her hands remained on my face. "I just want to um... Get changed and possibly, get some sleep. It's been -- a long night""Yeah, sure... You don't look to bright yourself, maybe some sleep could do." she agreed in a hasty whisper, pulling her hands from my face before stepping aside to give me some space.I forc
So without warning, I moved forward with both hands clenched hard on the wooden stick and swung it hard, hitting him on the side of his face that got the guy wincing in pain. His other brother was quite furious at my sudden action and was about raising himself to come at me when Ramirez moved forward and slammed the butt of his gun hard on his forehead - sending the Jamaican guy crashing down on his knees.I turned my head to look at Andrew as I retreated two steps from the thugs. I could tell he was pleased by what I'd just done by the way he nodded at me with a brief smile. Then the smile on Andrew's face faded into a stern look as he moved forward with his right hand outstretched, pointing the gun at the two thugs who were groaning with an angry look on their faces. "Now where does your boy Kelvin normally frequent -- like a club or mall?" Andrew asked in a demanding voice. But all the Jamaican brothers did was laugh at Andrew's inquisition, as if was a joke. What even got me sta
