"Good evening sir" I greeted in a polite voice as I gradually brought myself to a halt and stood beside the man who dipped his phone back into his pocket and slowly turned to face me.
"Yes good evening" He responded, giving me a questioning stare while placing both hands into his trouser pocket, as if shielding them from the biting cold; it was the winter season and the night during this period was always cold.I could tell from the man's casual outfit and expensive shoe that he was an up and doing fellow - someone who was financial stable and in his late 40's. Whatever I was about saying to him had better be well constructed as I was looking to make a good impression. So I cleared my throat briefly - wearing a courteous smile on my face and said to the man "Please pardon my intrusion, but I overheard you speaking on the phone that you were in need of someone who could work for you in taking care of the lawn in your house""Yeah sure, I am looking for someone for that... Wait" The man said with an affirmative nod and paused instantly - giving me a curious look with his eyebrows narrowing in questioning. "Are proposing to work for me?" He asked, sounding rather unsure than certain."Yes sir.. I wouldn't mind working for you, unless you've already found someone for the job" I chuckled lightly with a brief shrug."No no, that will be just fine... Actually, you've eased my search" The man said with a broadened smile that went a long way in relieving me; infact, I was extremely excited -- this was the one good thing that happened to me today!"So what's the name?" The man asked - lowering his gaze on his shirt pocket while dipping his right hand into it to pull out a complementary card."My name is Liam sir" I answered immediately, collecting the card as he handed it to me."Well Liam, the second address on that card is my house address" The man informed, pointing his right index finger at the card as I held it with my gaze lowered - reading it contents. What I also learnt was that this man works as an accountant at a city bank; A lucrative and well paying job if you ask me."Oh... And by the way, my name is William." The man added courteously and extended his right hand for a handshake. Then I shook him by the hand and said "it's nice to make you acquaintance sir""So errm... I need to get going. I hope you can make it to my place tomorrow morning before I leave for work?" Mr William asked, slowly retreating his steps as he was impatient to leave."Sure --- sure... I will be there tomorrow morning" I blurted heartily in response, gazing gleefully at Mr William who only nodded at me and turned - walking hurriedly to enter an expensive black Mercedes Benz car parked few metres away from the bar entrance before speeding off into the distance ahead."Yess!" I bursted out loudly with my voice reverberating accross the street - causing some passers by to gawk at me; but what did I care? I couldn't contain the excitement I felt inside. At long last, I found a job or more like a side hustle which might not be a well paying one, but it was something actually! As if I was also in luck, I pulled up and entered an available taxi that will take me home the moment I turned to face the road..."Mom?" I called out in a low voice as soon as I entered the house; roving my eyes about in search for her, but she wasn't in the palour as the whole place seemed quiet -- well, except for the palour TV which was still on.Then I moved forward and picked up the remote from the centre table - switching the TV off when I heard the clanging sounds of spoon coming from the kitchen."Well, she's definitely in the kitchen" I mumbled inaudibly to myself and moved towards the kitchen; then I slowly paused and stood in front of the entrance before leaning my left shoulder on the kitchen doorpost when I saw my mom standing in front of the kitchen washbasin - wiping some of the wet ceramic plates she had just washed with a napkin and was totally unaware of my presence."Mom" I called out softly to my mom, drawing her attention while staring gleefully at her with a wide smile on my face as she turned to give me a blank stare before lowering her eyes back at the plates. Clearly, she wasn't in a good mood -- and how could she be? Not with the way I spoke to her few hours ago."You're back" She managed to say in a low voice without staring at me as she continued stacking up the dishes.I felt a bit broken on hearing her response; it wasn't my intention seeing or putting her in such a gloomy state."Mom... You know I don't like seeing you like this.. And I'm sincerely sorry if I made you feel this way" I heaved out in a remorseful voice and moved towards her - rubbing her shoulders gently with both hands as I stood behind her."Hm-mm" My mom gave out a low hum with a forgiving nod of her head before placing her palm on top my left hand as it remained rested on her shoulder."I promise mom... It won't happen again" I whispered softly - leaning my lips closer my mom's left ear as I spoke."Good lord!... Uh uh... Liam? -- Have you been out drinking with Andrew again?" My mom exclaimed sharply, pulling my hands down from her shoulder before turning around to face me as I staggeringly retreated my steps from her; smiling sheepishly as I found my mom's inquisition a bit amusing -- a clear indication that I was tipsy, making me wonder just how many glasses of tequila I drank!"Urrrr.. And how do you know I went out drinking?" I replied inquisitively with a teasing smirk on my face."Boy, don't attempt lying to your mom." She cautioned in a somewhat playful tone as she pointed her right hand at me. "I could perceive the stench of alcohol from your breath when you spoke to me" My mom concluded, lowering her hand to give me a searching stare to see if I'll deny; but how could I deny? Not when her facts were right! The only thing I blamed myself now was speaking to her in such a close range."Okay fine... I went out drinking with Andrew. But I only took a glass -- and that was it" I lied with a convincing shrug of my shoulder while gazing at my mom whose left eyebrow raised in doubt."Make sure you wash off before going to bed" My mom urged."Yeah, I will... Night mom" I chuckled and dashed out of the kitchen for my room.***THE FOLLOWING DAY***I woke up quite early today and was already dressed, wearing a creamed coloured short sleeve shirt and a blue jean trouser before it was even 8am. I was feeling enthusiastic about going to Mr Williams house for the job; all I hoped for now was to reach there on time before he left for work."Where are you rushing to this morning?" My mom asked, setting the plates on the dinning table for breakfast when she noticed me rushing for the palour."Oh!... Am sorry mom, I forgot to tell you last night" I answered, tapping my forehead with my right hand and brought myself to an abrupt halt in front of the dinning entrance."Forgot to tell me what?" My mom retorted and stood upright to face me."I got a new job yesterday... And am to meet with my employer this morning before he leaves for work" I replied with my body wavering as I was impatient to leave."Awwn, that's good. But atleast you should have breakfast before going" My mom urged with an inviting look on her face."Am sorry mom... I really can't stay for breakfast. I'll see you when am back. Love you!" My voice broke out in quick response before I turned and jogged out of the house to get a cab that took me straight to Mr Williams house.I arrived at approximately 8:15am as the drive down to his house took only 15 minutes.'Wooffff... Just be calm Liam, no need to panick' I told myself as I moved up and stood in front of Mr Williams house entrance before giving three hard knocks on the door; then I pressed hard on the doorbell button beside the door when my eyes caught it.'How could I have missed the doorbell' My mind chorused in amusement as I adjusted my shirt and balanced my stance when I heard the gradual footsteps of someone inside the house - approaching to get the door.I must say, Mr Williams house was more like a mansion; it was huge and expensively furnished to a fancy taste - causing my head to turn in admiration."Hi, Good morning" the voice of a girl filled my ears, followed by the squeaking of the front door as it opened. I was about responding as I returned my gaze to face the girl when my whole body froze - making it almost impossible for me to speak.'Woah' was the first word that echoed loudly in my mind when our eyes met as I stood, trying to balance my swaying stance. I must confess, I've never been this nervous in my life like the way I was standing in front of this girl who from my guess was about my age or a couple years younger than me.She had a wasp-shape figure which was curvy and wore a grey coloured top with a tight black skinny jeans that hugged nicely on her thighs - making them irresistibly appetising to my eyes. Her complexion was fair and skin glossy which reflected the rays of the morning sun.She was healthy looking and stood about my height. Her hair was midnight-black and it flowed over her shoulders, giving radiance to her facial beauty that I couldn't help but admire. In all, she was an epitome of beauty - surpassing all the girls I have ever come across! Then her luminous, heavily-white teeth flashed as her tender-looking, heart shaped lips broke into a courteous smile."And you are?" She said politely to me when she noticed how mute I was. I even felt more like a fool after she inquired; I mean, why in heavens sake did I freeze in her presence? As if it was my first time seeing someone as pretty as herself!"Lia...my--my name is Liam" I stammered awkwardly, clearing my throat halfway as I spoke before extending my right hand for a handshake."Nice to meeting you Liam... My name is Chloe" she replied with a cute smile, sounding much more composed than I did. Then my body tickled with goosebumps rushing all over my skin when her soft pampered palm touched mine as she shook my hand; filing my head with wild fantasies."So errm... Are you looking for someone?" Chloe asked, pulling her hand awkwardly from mine; making me a bit embarrassed as I was so lost in my thoughts that i forgot we were still holding hands."Oh err, yess... Actually am here to see Mr Williams" I blurted immediately in a nervous voice."That will be my dad" Chloe chuckled softly and was about turning to go call her dad when she heard his fast paced footsteps gradually approaching behind towards our direction. "Oh! here he comes" Chloe said to me in a low voice and shifted, giving her dad more room as he came and stood in front of me - dressed in a finely fitted black suit and holding a briefcase. Then he switched the briefcase to his left hand and extended his right hand to me for a handshake, saying "Liam, so glad you could make it before I leave for work." "Yes... And I must say, you look good sir" I replied with a courteous tease - glancing briefly at Chloe who stood beside us with a friendly smile on her face."Well thank you" Mr Williams said as we retreated our hands - adjusting his tie while giving me a purposeful look. "So as for the job, I'll like you to..." I gradually lost attention to what Mr Williams was saying when my gaze drifted to look at Chloe who left us and moved into the house with her curv
"What's up Liam... Am on my way to your house" Andrew's voice rang into my ear from my phone's earpiece. "Uh... No don't!" I exclaimed sharply. "Why? -- or wait... You have some chick around and you don't want me to ruin your show right?" Andrew chuckled over the phone. Then I shook my head amusingly and said in a playful tone "Seriously bro, can you ever stay a day without thinking of ladies huh?""Okay okay" Andrew replied in between his laughter before clearing his throat and said. "So what are you up to?""Nothing much... Just went out early for a job interview" I answered with a wide grin on my face - turning around slowly before leaning my butt on the wooden table inside the garage."Woa!... Tell me, have you gotten a job and when are you starting?" Andrew asked over the phone with his voice sounding very surprised. "Hm-mm" I hummed softly with a nod of my head. "And I've started today... Infact, I was about working before your call came in" I added in a hearty voice - turnin
.. biting the wall of my stomach. I arrived at home few minutes later and went straight to meet my mom who was at the dinning room - dusting the table with a dry clothe when she suddenly raised her gaze and noticed me approaching."Honey, you look so exhausted" My mom said as she stood erect to face me the moment I came closer, standing at the opposite end of the dinning table."Good afternoon mom" I heaved in a low breathless voice - pulling an empty chair back before collapsing on it to sit."You must be hungry, let me go get your lunch" My mom said with a soft smile - placing her left hand under my chin before moving past me for the kitchen to get a plate of whatever she must have prepared. "Here you go" her voice sounded the moment she returned into the dining room, leveling a plate of food with a glass of water on the table in front of me before sitting down on an empty chair closer to mine. My tummy rumbled hungrily when the aroma of the beans filled my nose as I inhaled - l
Then she immediately stood up from the table and reached out to hold my left hand, saying "Follow me""Okay" I agreed cluelessly, following behind Chloe who pulled me along as she walked out of the garage entrance and headed straight towards the back of their enormous house - a section I had never ventured into; making me wonder why she never included the area on my first day when her dad Instructed her to show me around."Here we are" Chloe said in a low but cheerful voice and let go of my hand as we came to a stop; standing to face a brown coloured portable playhouse that could contain not less than 3 persons in it. "Wow... It's -- it's lovely" I exclaimed in a somewhat startled tone, glancing briefly at Chloe who stood by my left side with a wide grin on her face."I know right" she giggled rhetorically with both hands clamped below her tummy in excitement. Although it wasn't quite what I expected her to show me, yet I was still glad by the fact she did which meant she was beginni
'Hi... Can we meet?' Was the message she sent to me.So I shook my head and gave out a sarcastic scoff while placing my phone back Into my pocket before walking towards the main road ahead to get a cab. I ARRIVED home few minutes later and noticed my mom dressed, busying around the palour like she was preparing to go out. "Mom... You look -- what should I say, stunning" I chuckled in a teasing voice as I entered the house, shutting the palour door gently behind me while my gaze remained fixed at my mom who stood erect with a wide grin on her face. She was literally glowing - almost as though she was excited about something. "Are you going ou... Wait! -- Is it what I think it is?" I gasped sharply with an amused look as I moved forward and stood in front of my mom who was dressed in a black gown which hung nicely over her shoulders - revealing her mature and elegant features. My mom wasn't all that advanced in age; infact, she was only 45 years and still looking very attractive en
she leaned in and kissed me hard that all I could do was respond to it by placing my right palm gently on her thighs. Her skin was so plump it sent a shiver of nervousness down my spine with her laps slowly parting from my gentle touch as I teasingly traveled my fingers up her thighs to reach for the satin textured pant she was wearing underneath. "Hurrr... Mmm" Chloe's gasping moan trickled into my mouth with her lips opening halfway in ecstasy - unable to continue kissing me as my fingers began to play, rubbing gently over her pant which slowly began to feel damp with every touch!"Oh Chloe" i whispered in a passionate and somewhat breathless voice as my lips roved - planting soft kisses on her chin down to her neck that got her whole body quavering lightly. Then as if loosing herself to pleasure, she lowered her lips to the side of my face and used her teeth to nib on my right ear - sending a sharp pinching pain that tickled me. I found it very romantic when she did that, which on
Then I took out the phone from my pocket when I heard it beep. It was a message from Andrew and it read: '[Still waiting for the photo bro]'I heaved out a deep sigh - biting my lower lip in confusion before switching off my phone when I came to a final resolve. I like what was going on between I and Chloe -- and I wasn't able or willing to jeopardise it for anything, not even for my best friend Andrew! So I placed the phone beside my pillow and closed my eyes, thinking of a possible reason to give to Andrew for not sending the photo when I fell into a deep sleep. *****I was woken the following day to the sounds of birds chirping outside the playhouse and the slow movement of someone's hands on my bare chest. "Hmmm" I gave out a sleepy grunt as my eyes gradually opened - squinting and blinking hard to clear my vision which was a bit blurry. "Good morning" Chloe whispered to my face and gave me a quick peck on the lips as she laid beside me with her face over mine which made me won
"Good" my mom heaved under her breath and returned her attention back to Shelly who opened her mouth to speak."My rent got expired and I had nowhere to go to before I'll find a new apartment to rent. That is why I decided to come ask for your permission -- just for this week at most" Shelly said in a low voice, facing my mom with her head slightly lowered. I drew in a deep breath from where I stood in front of them and squeezed my eyes shut in pleasant relief with the hard pounding of my heart gradually subsiding. For a split second I thought I was doomed, but hearing her reveal to my mom her purpose of coming really calmed my nerves - infact, I wasn't going to kick against her staying over; atleast, to show that I was remorseful for my previous outburst. "She can stay in my room mom" I voiced out suddenly, looking at my mom turned to give me a surprised stare which I ignored by glancing at Shelly whose pressed lips broke into a relieved smile."I'll help you get settled in" I sugg
"Hey hey..." I exclaimed in panick, rushing forward to shield the Jamaican guy with my arms spread apart. "Step aside bro" Andrew instructed under clenched jaw, placing his left palm under his right hand to steady his aim at the Jamaican guy whose hand was now gripping the revolver gun in his waistline. "Chill.. can everyone just put their guns down!" I yelled, wincing slightly from the pain I felt on my jaw as I shouted. "And why the fu*k should we do that?" Ramirez countered with his eyes still glued on the guy behind me."Because he saved our lives -- both of us" I answered plainly and looked at Andrew. "Trust me man, we would have been dead if not for him -- please, lower your guns down." Andrew hesitated for a brief moment, inhaling deeply before lowering his gun down. Then he turned sideways to give Ramirez and Anthony a nod of his head which they obediently obliged and lowered their guns down. I heaved a deep breath and lowered my arms before stepping aside to stand with Ch
My only prayer now was for Chloe to be found and safe back home in the arms of her mom, with or without me being there to see it happen because at this point, I had zero hope in escaping the Jamaican or being rescued. *****"Pull up here --" he said to the taxi driver and compelled me to pay the transport fare the moment we reached the destination. Then we both came out of the car and the taxi driver sped off. I gulped hard as I stood motionless, facing the old cranky gate of the former swan high school. The site has been abandoned for some years now with claims of some politician making plans to buy the whole place for the purpose of turning it into a factory. This was a very quiet environment -- almost like the abandoned factory Kelvin had me and Andrew taken to be killed. So with every courage i could muster in me, I turned to face the Jamaican guy who stood behind, pointing his gun directly at my abdomen. "Look man -- I never shot at your brother, I wasn't even with a...""Too l
"I think... She's been shot by the hitman" I managed to say in a breathless whisper with my eyes flickering - struggling to fight back the tears that welled up. "Oh no..." Andrew gasped and pulled away. "We have to get to her... Quick, get in the car" he said in panick, moving to the side and opened the driver's door. "Goddam Liam... We don't have much time" he growled when he noticed me leaning instead of moving to enter the car. "Okay" I sniffed and pulled away, placing my right hand on the car to balance my staggering frame as I walked and entered the passenger seat with Andrew turning on the ignition switch before he sped us out of the garage for my house. *****WE NOTICED a police car parked on the road in front of my house entrance the minute we arrived."Who's he talking to?" Andrew asked with our gazes looking out through his driver window when we noticed a middle aged police man standing in front of our palour entrance, writing something on a small note as he conversed wi
She pulled it down and whispered to my face in a concerned voice. "Can I come by the house later this evening?" "Yea... Sure you can." I forced a smile and leaned in to give her a brief kiss on the lips. "Now, let's get you in a taxi."Few minutes later, the taxi drove off with her before I entered another one that took me straight to Andrew father's old garage where we had first regrouped. WHEN I entered the garage, I found Anthony leaning his butt on the car parked inside with his hands folded - wearing a frightened look that got me dispirited. "Listen man, this shit is getting way out of hand" Andrew lamented with his arms spread apart as he trotted towards me. "What did you say happened to Miguel... Is he still alive?" I stopped in front of Andrew who was rubbing his sweaty forehead in panick. "He's on a fu*king stretcher inside an ambulance headed to the hospital as we speak" Andrew licked his lower lip, turning from side to side in anger. "Your boy Kelvin -- he needs to be
I lowered myself very slowly to sit on the couch next to hers. "Aha, Liam... Why are you here and not at work?" Shelly inquired in a surprised tone the moment she noticed my presence on entering the palour from the corridor. Then she sat on the same couch as my mom."He just got fired" My mom blurted plainly, expressing her disappointment as she turned to face Shelly who casted a shocked look at me."Why were you fired Liam?" Shelly asked with my mom now returning her gaze back at me. "I got -- Chloe pregnant, and she's my boss's daughter" I confessed to my mom under clenched jaw with my head sagged in cowardice. "What!" My mom's loud exclaim rose my head up at an instant. She seemed very shocked and raged at the same time. Then, her expression turned to that of surprise curiousity when she noticed how reserved and quiet Shelly was; after all, it was no big news to her since I already told her this morning before leaving the house."So -- you knew about this too?" She turned her bo
"Um.." I hesitated for a moment"Dad.. Liam and I want to see you and mom" Chloe informed before I could even make out the right words. 'what?!' I screamed in my head, looking briefly at Chloe from the corner of my eye as she casted a quick glance at me. "Okay, then let's go inside so your mom and I can hear what it is you have to tell us" Her dad turned and motioned for us to follow as he walked into the house. "Are you sure about this Chloe?" I used my left hand to clamp Chloe's right wrist in protest, bringing her steps to a abrupt halt. Then she turned halfway to face me and pulled her hand away from my grasp. "Let's just do this Liam... It's best if we tell them.""Right --" I mumbled, clearing my throat as I followed behind Chloe who led me Into the house and down to their large, elegantly furnished sitting room where we both sat on the same couch, facing her parents who sat side by side on the opposite couch. I couldn't help but rove my eyes in admiration, staring at the lar
We dodged incoming passersby, running like our lives depended on it with our arms spread evenly apart, swaying front and back like a pendulum. We had no single clue as to where we were actually heading to; all we wanted was to be out of sight from the stranger who was gradually closing in on us. Then straight ahead, we saw a crowd of teenagers approaching our direction. They looked like high school students on excursion with an adult male, leading the way with his hands pointing occasionally at buildings. "Quick, there's a path on your left" Andrew notified me in short breaths and rocked me hard to the bending with his left shoulder as we entered and continued running. The path was a bit narrow with walls of tall storey buildings line up - making it rather impossible for me and Andrew to run side by side. So he took to my front and led the way."Andrew?... Hey, there's a -- wired fence in front of us. What -- will we do?" I called out in worry with my voice slightly breaking in shor
"Um..." I gave out a low groan and rubbed my forehead with my right hand, making my final decision on what to say. "A man got shot beside me at the bar tonight, so his blood got splattered on my sweater?" I lied, turning my cowardly gaze to the side as if I was depressed by what I'd just said. "Oh dear!" Shelly gasped in a saddened voice and moved closer, turning my head to face her with both hands pressed against my cheeks. "I'm sure that must have been so terrifying for you to have witnessed" Her soft consoling whisper only woke the frightening images of tonight's attack. "Hm-mm" I hummed softly. Then I raised both my hands and curled my fingers around Shelly's wrist as her hands remained on my face. "I just want to um... Get changed and possibly, get some sleep. It's been -- a long night""Yeah, sure... You don't look to bright yourself, maybe some sleep could do." she agreed in a hasty whisper, pulling her hands from my face before stepping aside to give me some space.I forc
So without warning, I moved forward with both hands clenched hard on the wooden stick and swung it hard, hitting him on the side of his face that got the guy wincing in pain. His other brother was quite furious at my sudden action and was about raising himself to come at me when Ramirez moved forward and slammed the butt of his gun hard on his forehead - sending the Jamaican guy crashing down on his knees.I turned my head to look at Andrew as I retreated two steps from the thugs. I could tell he was pleased by what I'd just done by the way he nodded at me with a brief smile. Then the smile on Andrew's face faded into a stern look as he moved forward with his right hand outstretched, pointing the gun at the two thugs who were groaning with an angry look on their faces. "Now where does your boy Kelvin normally frequent -- like a club or mall?" Andrew asked in a demanding voice. But all the Jamaican brothers did was laugh at Andrew's inquisition, as if was a joke. What even got me sta
