CHRISTY:

“You know what? Why don’t we choose somewhere where we can talk freely?” Everette suggested while looking somewhere else except me.

Talk anywhere? And where the heck was that? I no longer trusted this man.

I shook my head. “No. I like it here.”

“Here?”

“Why? Is there something wrong with this place?”

He was about to say something but stopped.

“Why don’t you answer my question, Mr. Watson?”

A smile slowly spread across his face, making my heart jump.

Damn.

I did not like seeing his smiles causing my heart to flip like crazy. Whenever he smiled, it looked like the world brightened.

“If you cannot give me the answer, then I won’t be—”

“What do you want to hear?” he inquired, cutting off my words.

“The truth. What else?” I asked with a dah gone.

“What will you get from this business marriage? Hmm. Of course, you will be having a husband like me. Handsome. Powerful. Rich.”

“You’re too full of yourself.”

“I'm plainly telling the truth.”

Well, he had a point. He was indeed handsome, powerful, and rich. Back when we were exchanging messages, I could sense that he was handsome despite showing the lower half part of his face. If I should have known I was exchanging messages with him, then I would have forced him to unveil his face.

“You want to ask what I will get from you? Your family name. I can make use of that. Your family is still widely known in the business world. Your parents had a lot of connections which would be beneficial to me in the long run.”

A muscle in my neck ticked.

He never even bothered to hide that he would only use me in the end.

Isn't it only fair? Your parents used his money and now he will be using you, of course.

“That's true. And what do you want me in return?”

I had no plans of submitting myself to him. If it comes to a point that I had no choice but to marry him, then I would make sure that he will regret marrying me and meeting me for the second time.

“Be the obedient wife that I needed. Cook for me. Pretend that you love me when I will be taking a lot of interviews. Take care of all my needs. I mean all my needs,” he explained and wiggled my eyebrows. I inhaled deeply upon realizing what he was talking about. “I’m sure you understand what I mean. Be my trophy wife, Christina.”

A trophy wife. Someone who will act all beautiful and kind. A puppet.

“That means you also wanted me to appease your sexual needs.”

“Precisely. You will be my wife or would you rather take me someone else in your stead?”

The wind blew hard and my hair danced with them. Putting the stray strands of hair beside my ears.

Everette taking another woman except me?

The thought made my blood boil in anger.

I gritted my teeth as I envisioned myself cutting Everette's dick.

Everette snapped his fingers in front of my face, grabbing my attention. “Earth to Christina. Focus on our conversation and not on my face.”

I averted my gaze as I realized I was indeed looking at his face.

Why would I act like I was embarrassed? No, freaking way!

I returned my gaze to him.

“You know what? You need two people in your life. A maid and a slut.”

“A maid and a slut?”

He laughed out loud which I never thought he could not do. The women who saw him sighed as if they were in love while I only waited until when he would stop.

I did not know if I was willing to be an obedient wife when all I could think of as I saw him was my annoyance and hatred towards him. He never stopped looking for me and I did not believe he did not know that I was the one whom he was chatting with on Swiped.

“Why look for two when I could have you?”

“You cannot have me.” I wouldn't fall for him again, right? I could fall for any man, but not Everette Watson. I just did not want it to happen. “I don't fuck someone who does not deserve me.”

His expression turned serious.

“I cannot?” He shrugged off his shoulders. “Then kiss your parents goodbye. A couple of days from now, your family’s name will be in a tabloid with all the scandals your family has got into.”

My fist trembled.

“You’re blackmailing us.” Another reason why I hated him. He kept on acting as if the world would always bow to him including the people around him.

And when Everette blackmailed, he had the power to make them all true. He had the money and connections while our family already lost them. Or started losing. We were under his mercy.

I agreed that I was also the black sheep of the family. My parents did not know how to love their children, but as their child, this was the least I could do for them for spending some of their fortunes on me.

Are you sure? Or are you only scared that your Mom will do what she threatened you? Of killing themselves?

Mom could also do what she threatened.

I felt suffocated. Why did I have to be in the middle of them? All I wanted was to marry someone like Poppy. Someone who loved me for who I was?

“No. I only want my money back. That’s my money. If you have the means to give it back to me, then do it. End of discussion. But if you don’t have one, you have to sacrifice yourself.”

I bit the inside of my cheeks. How could we repay Everette that fast when our family was drowning in debt? And Dad was also taking his bed rest.

Brother. How could you leave me like this?

Did you not take your time, Christy when you left your family a couple of years ago? It’s time to do your obligation no matter how cruel it was.

“Your silence is enough for me to know your answer.” Everette pocketed his hand. “Prepare yourself for our wedding. I want you to be  the loveliest bride.”

The press would be there. Everyone will witness that Everette Watson has married me. I will be subject to their judgment and no matter what I do, they will never approve me as Everette’s wife. He looked so perfect while I…

I was cornered and was left with nothing else but to accept what I should have done a few years ago—to marry Everette Watson.

Fine.

If I have no choice, then what choice do I have but to marry this monkey?

“I will marry you.”

Everette smiled wider. “That’s what I am waiting for, my future wife. Why does it take you too long?”

I attempted to puke. “Don’t ever call me that again. It’s disgusting.”

“You’re my property now,” he said with a serious expression on his face. I did not understand this man. Sometimes, he was smiling. But sometimes, he would become so serious that it was scary.

Using his fingers, he lifted my chin and forced me to look at him.

“You're mine now.”

The hair on my hands stood.

I slapped his hands away and stepped backward.

“Don’t you dare treat me as your property, because I am not. You listen, Everette. I may have agreed to your wedding proposal but know that I won’t ever love you or I will give my body. You will never have a taste of me. Salivate all you want, but you can never have me.”

The corner of his lips lifted and scanned my body hungrily.

Fuck.

“Are you sure about that? As far as my memory is concerned, you nearly sent nude pictures when we were messaging each other,” he taunted.

I felt my cheeks burning as I remembered what I had done. It was because of his side face pictures and the chiseled abs he sent me that I wanted to return the favor. If he didn't stop me, I would be sending him those pictures and if I did, I did not know if I could face him like this.

My mouth opened and closed. “T-That was only a prank t-to test your personality! I want to know if you are an asshole or not.”

“Like your ex-boyfriends?” he pressed. “I know all their names.”

My eyes bulged. “You did not…”

“Yes, I did. I told you already. I asked someone to look for you. He failed, but now that I found you, I never said he stopped checking for some background information.”

Dammit.

Did he know about Poppy and Kelly?

I did not want to involve them in this mess. Poppy would always back me up. And if Poppy was involved, Sebastian Holding would be too.

Damn it. Why was I entangled in this mess?

“Everette. I am warning you. Stop whatever you are planning.”

A knowing smile was painted on his lips. “What plan are you talking about?”

“All your evil plans.”

“Christina. You failed to recall that I am a businessman and not some mafia. I don’t have an evil plan. Do not taint my good name,” he declared acting hurt.

What an actor. He would be hired as one if he had plans to enter showbiz.

If I happened to know that he was asking someone to follow Poppy and her daughter, Everette would regret that he answered my messages when we were on Swiped.

“Whatever. You cannot be trusted. If you want me this badly, I will give it to you.”

“Good.”

“I want our wedding tomorrow and I will be choosing our marriage officiants.”

His brows knitted together. “Tomorrow? That’s not possible. We need to prepare a lot for this wedding. The rest of my family and investors will be attending. This will be the wedding of the century. I will also invite all the actors and actresses in Mollywood.”

That was the kind of wedding he had in mind? That would cost a lot and he was willing to spend his fortunes over someone whom he did not even love?

CHRISTY:I looked for any hint that Everette was only joking, but the way his eyes twinkled was an indication that he was not. He wanted a wedding? He wanted to show off how he was so rich.A shiver ran down my spine as I imagined myself with all the cameras on me. Then, Everette was all smiles at the camera. That’s not going to happen.I will choose my own wedding whether he wants it or not. “I refuse to marry you if you insist on that kind of luxurious wedding.”Mom would be happy about it. To show off, but not me. If I was going to wed over someone whom I did not even love, I might as well go on with the kind of wedding I wanted. Everette’s brows furrowed. “Why? Christina. What kind of woman would not want that kind of wedding? That’s how my wedding would be. That’s also what my family wanted,” he explained. Ah, right. Everette had a loving family compared to mine. They had such close ties that even his brothers and sisters were living in their mansion. I had no problem with t

CHRISTY:I was expecting that there would be a lot of visitors to our wedding, but I was surprised when I found that it was only Everette and his secretary and my friend—Raven. I thought Everette would be bringing his family…Talk about having an extravagant wedding only to find out that not even his family was present. I could not help but feel a little bit hurt about it. Does this mean that his family hated me for jilting their son? And now, I was also the one who forced him to carry on the wedding as soon as possible. Well, if I had an in-law like this, I would also be hurting. Whatever. Now was not the time to be sensitive. Today, I would be marrying Everette Watson— a CEO and billionaire. “Hi. Am I late?” I asked, bringing the silence. I shifted my weight from foot to foot as I felt their gaze trained on me. If I had known that they would stare at me like this, I would have paid more attention to my makeup. All the men were now watching me as I sauntered towards them. “Wh

CHRISTY:“Are you jealous, husband?” I asked, trying to act innocent. “That's so cute of you.”Then, I accidentally bumped into Everette's side. He was so completely taken by surprise that he nearly fell on the floor. He looked at me with surprise while I looked at him innocently. "Sorry. I got carried away. You look so cute when you are jealous."He cleared his throat and said, “I'm not cute. You're changing the topic. But you did not answer my question, Christina. Who is that mayor to you?"I turned serious. "My ex-boyfriend? Do you mean Raven? What about him"?His face fell. "You invited your ex-boyfriend to your own wedding?"Scanning the surroundings, I could not help but be amused at the interior of the house. The furniture. The paintings on the wall and the chandeliers and everything in it were amazing. This was nothing compared to the cheap apartment I rented. This place screamed home. "I can sense nothing wrong with that, Everette. I am always friends with all my exes and

CHRISTY:A shiver ran down my throat seeing how Everette looked at me. “When we meet, I will look at you like you're the most beautiful woman on earth. My eyes would only be on you,” I remembered he said that when we were still in the virtual world which I replied with a laughing emoticon.Back then, I felt how much he desired me. Or maybe it was only part of his plan so that I would fall for him even if we had not seen each other face to face. Everette's pupils dilated as desire washed over his eyes, something I was not expecting.“I'm not even beautiful…I'm fat,” I replied back then.“Sizes don't matter to me. I am after a woman's heart,” Everette replied which made me sigh on my bed and the desire to be with him shot up. Poppy might not know it, but my weight and curves had been one of my insecurities as the words of my Mom kept on ringing in my head whenever I looked at the mirror. However, no one had managed to find out about it, since I was able to hide it well. But seeing E

CHRISTY:When no one was able to say anything, it was Everette who broke the silence. He cleared his throat and said, “Everyone. I wanted you to meet my wife. You haven’t met her earlier, but here she is.”His Mother looked at me from head to foot and her eyes were back at my face again. Something was telling me that I should be wary of this woman. Plus the fact that she had not forgotten what I had done to his son. Seeing my mother-in-law was like seeing Mom. She was like Mom who never was happy with anything I did. Everette's mother was disappointed. All of Everette’s family were. If they were not, why would they fail to come to our wedding?Does it matter? It was only a marriage out of paying your parent’s debt, right? Whatever they will think is none of my concern. All I had to do was wait until Everette would be the one to divorce me. “You did not tell me we have our visitor,” I commented, trying to act cool even if my hands were already cold.“We want to surprise our son an

CHRISTY:Everette gave me a blank look. “How do you pay me? How can your family pay me?” he asked. “Mom was always against it from the beginning. But I still pushed through the wedding.”The question was why? Why was he persistent in marrying me? I would not call it obsession. Everette Watson was never obsessed with me. It was something else which I could not pinpoint. “You don't have the answer? I knew it.”“You ask how could I pay you?” Shrugging off and starting digging the foods on the table, I muttered, “I will find someone who is richer than you. Maybe open another account in Swiped and—”A low growl escaped his lips. “There will be no divorce in this marriage. You will stay with me until I get tired of you. Until I will dispose of you,” he said, cutting off my words. So, the only thing that I could do was do anything that would make him divorce me.“You will get tired of me.” I will make sure of it and then I will toss him away. I would be free. I tried to whack my brain and remember who might be the one who told her, but no name came into my mind. I did not believe it was Everette's secretary. “Are you planning on denying it, Christy?” Poppy asked, sounding disappointed on the other line. “I thought we were sisters. No secrets between us.”My mouth opened and closed until I found myself saying, “W-Who told you?” I mumbled. Poppy was not the type who would say still without knowing what she wanted. She will get to the bottom of this. “The business world is small. My husband told me. Did Poppy lie to me or was it only because my husband waited for me to step out? "Kitten...It's you." He looked at my face and down to my body and back to my face again. "I was right. You are only at the bakery shop. W-Why did you have to lie?" he asked, his voice trembling. His hair was already long and his mustache and stubbles had grown so much as if he was a completely different person. Despite that, he was still beautiful. The very person whom I managed to love. "I'm not. Y-You're mistaken, Mr." I pretended to fan myself. "You're drunk, Mister." "I only drank two canned beers, Kitten." He sauntered towards me, but I stepped back. "What are you doping? CHRISTY:"He is gone," Poppy announced after talking to my husband. I hid in the kitchen as Poppy struggled to look for some alibis and lied to my husband. I was glad I was able to watch the CCTV camera and found him approaching. If not, he would know I was here, working in Poppy's bakery shop. If Everette will find out that I was only here for the whole year, he might be mad at Poppy. The woman had no fault. In fact, she was kind enough to give me a job where I wanted it. Everette…he looked like a hermit who just came out from his hiding place. He had a rugged expression on his face, but he was still handsome. How long has it been since I last saw him face to face? More than a year already and I just wanted to run into his arms."Thank you, Poppy. EVERETTE: It had been an nth time since I stared at my wife’s picture when we had our cruise ship. It was a candid picture of her while we both sat on the sand. A year of missing her. My wife was gone just like what I dreamed. When I entered the house, when I returned back from working on the company, her clothes were still there, but she never returned. At first, I was scared that she was kidnapped again, but there were witnesses of her going somewhere else alone. She was not kidnapped. The truth was, she was only looking for a perfect opportunity where she could go and run away. It had been what? One fucking years of her absence. No calls. No text. Not even anything. Until now, I blame myself for what happened. Maybe…if I did not work late, I would still be able to stop her from disappearing. “Why don’t you give up, Everette?” Vincent said. “If you did not find her, it only meant that she did not want to be found.” We were in the house. CHRISTY: I want the world to swallow me now. What a very perfect timing. Beatrice being able to witness me slapping her husband. I would understand if she would hate me after this. She loved her husband so much that salpping him will be the reason why he would throw a fit. I did not know how to console Beatrice or how would I be able to face her and explain what she just heard and what she had witnessed. Did I regret going to their cabin? I did not. All I was thinking was this woman who looked like she could not even hurt a fly. "Beatrice..." I mumbled. Approach her. She deserved to know what her husband said. Are you sure? The other part of my mind said. If the truth would hurt her so much, was it worth it? Left with no choice, I sauntered towards her. "How long had you been listening?" I asked directly, no loger beating around the bush. If she hated me after this, all I had to do was accept everything adn move on. There was so much bigger things that needed my attention.

Instead of getting guilty, all I felt was the sense of fulfillment of avenging Beatrice. My palms were itching to slap him again, but once was enough. As long as I was able to send him the message that not everyone liked him was already enough.Drake glared at me, watching the imprints of my hands on his palm. Or maybe she already expected it, but she could not do anything about it. Perhaps I was not the only one who had told her to divorce her husband.
