Sarah’s eyes gradually opened and the first thing she glimpsed made her eyes swing open. “Hun!” She exclaimed as she quickly lifted her head from the pillow.
She sat up on the majestic four-poster bed, adorned with intricate gold accents and draped in lavish silk linens, dominating the space.
“Where am I?” She wondered, her brow furrowed, turning her neck to look around the room.
The room was a serene oasis of luxury, with plush cream-colored carpets, rich mahogany furnishings, and floor-to-ceiling windows that framed breathtaking views of the city skyline, leaving Sarah in bewilderment, coupled with admiration.
“How did I get here?”
She half-closed her eyes and tapped her forehead, trying to remember what happened last night that ended her in such a room, but she couldn’t remember past the cars’ honk.
“Anyone around?” She asked, facing the door. Her voice was low, and knowing no one would hear her, she spoke louder. “Who’s there?”
A lady in a knee-length skirt and a blue shirt rushed. “I’m here,” she responded. She stood closer to the bed in Sarah’s front and slightly bowed her head. “Good morning, ma. How’s your night?”
“I don’t know what my night was like because I don’t know how I ended up here,” Sarah let out. “Please, who are you? Where am I? How did I get here? And what am I doing here?”
The lady filled her lips with a smile. “I’m Katie,” she introduced. “And we’re in one of the enormous bedrooms in a luxurious mansion; Harrison Villa VI, Iderade city,”
She paused for a second and brightened her smile before furthering. “I don’t know either. I received a command from my boss, ordering me to rush here to look after someone,” she narrated. “And getting here, I met you lying on the bed. He only added I shouldn’t disturb you and satisfy you.”
Sarah frowned her forehead, confused. “Your boss?” She asked, and Katie nodded to confirm before she threw another question. “Who is your boss?”
Sarah furrowed her face, confused. “Who is your boss?”
Katie exhaled softly. “Be patient. You’ll figure it out soon. He’s on his way back already.” She spoke with a cool tone, avoiding sounding rude so Sarah wouldn’t get angry since she didn’t want to reveal her boss’s identity yet so she wouldn’t get on her boss’s wrong side as well since she wasn’t sure of what he would want.
Sarah took the duvet off her body. “I can’t wait for him to return. When he returns, tell him I’m grateful.” She disagreed.
Katie whiffled her head in opposition. “You can’t leave without his permission.”
Sarah halted. She stared at Katie’s face and scoffed. “Is this an abduction?” She questioned. “You can’t reveal his identity and don’t want me to leave. Let me go or I’ll call the police.”
She touched her body in search of her phone and looked around the room, but didn’t see it, so she looked back at Katie’s face. “Where’s my phone?”
“I don’t know,” Katie spoke persuasively. “I don’t have your phone. Allowing you to leave isn’t a problem, but I may get into trouble if I permit you without my boss’s permission. Please. I can assure you he means no harm,”
“Please, just wait for him to return.” She pleaded.
Sarah breathed out softly. Katie sounded promising, so she believed her words. “Okay,” she agreed. “Please, inform him I’ve woken up so he can come quickly. I’ve got a lot to attend to. I can’t wait for a long time.”
Katie joggled her head. “Sure,” she uttered with a brightened smile. “I don’t know what you’ll want to eat, so I haven’t prepared a meal. Should I get you a coffee or do you prefer tea for relaxation?”
“Tea.” Sarah made her choice.
“Okay.” Katie accepted the order. She bent her neck a little and walked out of the room.
*Minutes later*
Katie entered the room with a cup of tea in her hands. She walked to the bed's edge and stretched it out to Sarah. “This is the tea, ma.”
“Thanks,” Sarah uttered with a smile. She lifted her head from the bed header and as she stretched out her hand to collect the tea, the door banged open, and her gaze shifted to it.
Seeing the guy standing at the entrance, she closed her eyes and shook her head, and opening it to see she was still seeing the same person, she closed it again and wiped her face. She couldn’t believe her eyes, thinking she was dreaming or hallucinating, but opening her eyes to still see the same person, her brow furrowed.
“Harold?!” she called in disbelief.
Harold joggled his head and inserted his hands in his pocket, taking his steps slowly. “Yes, it’s me,” he confirmed. He ceased walking and looked into her eyes. “Long time, no see, Sarah. How’ve you been?”
Sarah snickered. “How do you expect I should be?” She queried and without waiting for his response, she faced Katie, asking, “Is he your boss?”
“Yes.” Katie confirmed.
Sarah stared downward. “From frying pan to fire? What exactly is going on in my life presently?” She said in a whisper, but loud enough for Harold to hear.
“Okay. It’s my fate,” she accepted.
Harold’s appearance already pinched her wounded heart, and despite having a lot to say to him, she wasn’t interested in trading words with him at the moment, so she wanted to get out there already.
She took the duvet off her body and rushed down from the bed. “I remembered everything that happened now. Thanks for your help. I wish we never crossed paths again.” She uttered. Knowing he would have something to say, she hurried him, heading towards the door.
Harold watched her walk to the door and as he laid her hand on its handle, he flung a question. “We haven’t met in four years. Do you really don’t want to talk to me?”
Sarah clenched the handle and ground her teeth for a second before turning back. “What do you expect I should say?” She asked, her eyes fixed on his. “Am I supposed to jump into the arms of the man who abandoned me and cry about how much I’ve missed him?”
Harold nodded and sighed. He understood Sarah’s pain and only asked such a question because he didn’t know the perfect line to open a discussion with her.
What would he expect from a broken lady who loved him deeply, yet he left her without an explanation? He never expected she would accept him. He had his reason but felt Sarah would see it as lame to convince her and wouldn’t have an interest in it.
“Sarah,” he called in a low voice and discharged a soft breath, summoning his gut to speak boldly. “If you’ve nothing to say to me, I’ve got a lot to say to you. Please, hear me out.”
Tears rose in Sarah’s eyes, but she caged the tears beneath her eyelids and looked into his eyes. “Harold, I regret ever crossing paths with you. I hate you, myself, and everything happening in my life,” she lamented, her voice raised because of the pain roasting her mind at the moment.
She licked her upper lips and blew a heavy air through her mouth, proceeding with a lower voice. “Please, Harold, stay away from me. I mean, far away from me.”
“I’m sorry, Sarah, but I can’t stay away. I can only watch from afar. And if I see you sad again, I won’t hesitate to come closer because my life goal now is to make you happy for the rest of your life,” He said, his voice low yet assertive. “I don’t care about what it will cost me.”
“I would rather die in pain than share it with you,” she expressed, her pain reflecting in her voice as her eyes turned red in anger. “You helped me won’t make me welcome you back into my life. I don’t need you.”
Harold tightened his lip and nodded. “Okay,” he uttered. He expected her reactions, so he didn’t want to trigger her more. He took out her phone from his pocket and walked closer to her to give it to her.
She gave him a deadly stare and snatched the phone from her.
“The doctor said you should get an adequate rest and avoid stress so you won’t hurt your baby.” He relayed the doctor’s message.
She withered her face, confused. “My baby?!” She asked. “What are you talking about?”
Harold stared at her in the same manner, surprised she didn’t know what he was talking about. “You’re pregnant,” he proclaimed. “Didn’t you know that?”
Sarah’s eyes widened and her lips quivered, but a statement forced its way out. “I’m pregnant?!”
Harold nodded, still staring at her in confusion coupled with bewilderment. “Yes,” he confirmed. “I invited a doctor to check on you last night. He took your blood to run a test and called me to confirm it this morning,”
“Maybe that’s the reason you lost consciousness last night.”
Sarah slowly shook her head and then faster. “No! I can’t be pregnant!”
Yes, this book also involves pregnancy, but... just keep reading. You'll figure the differences out.
“Why now of all years?” Sarah asked herself, staring at the test result in her hands as she stood in the middle of the hospital reception. Tears streamed down her face, some followed the cheeks lines to her mouth with some dropping on the paper. She rushed out of Harold’s home and refused his offer to drop her off at the hospital, unable to believe he was telling her the truth, and since the pregnancy test was free, she stopped by the nearest hospital to confirm what she had fervently prayed against. What will happen next? How would she explain to the world what was going on in her life? Would she go back to Charles to inform him about the pregnancy?“What’s wrong?” Chloe, a nurse asked, her voice layered with conversation as she placed her hand on Sarah’s shoulder.Chloe gave Sarah the test result, smiling and judging by Sarah’s appearance, she already guessed her age and expected Sarah would be excited, but her reaction was the complete opposite of what she foresaw. “What’s wrong?”S
“Watch your steps…” Sandra cautioned Sarah, climbing the porch steps to the courthouse veranda. She stood on the veranda and lengthened her hand, offering, “let me help you up.”Sarah accepted Sandra’s hand and carefully climbed up. “Thanks.” She uttered with a smile.Sandra wiped the sweat on Sarah’s forehead and smiled, looking into her eyes. “Remember all I told you. You’re strong. Okay?”Sarah nodded. “Okay.”“Are you ready?” Sandra asked.Sarah joggled her head, and without wasting another second, Sarah led into the ground floor.“Why are you late?” Rebecca threw a question immediately as they stepped in.They turned to the left, and seeing Rebecca, Sandra snickered. “Finally,” she whispered, keeping her voice very low so Sarah wouldn’t hear her since she had agreed not to cause a commotion.Sarah knew Sandra would want to pick up a fight to defend her, so she begged her to stay calm and avoid Rebecca before they left the house.Sarah and Sandra ceased walking and watched Rebecca
“Hun?!”Everyone’s eyes widened in shock, with a series of questions on their minds. Sarah separated her lips to talk, but her mouth betrayed her, refusing to pull out what she had in mind.Rebecca’s lips quivered, but the curiosity in her made her push out her question. “What do you mean, Harold?” She asked, her voice raised in surprise. “Do you know her?”Without allowing Harold to give a response, Rebecca scoffed. “You don’t,” she concluded. “And I bet you wouldn’t want to know.”Harold discharged a deep breath and looked at Rebecca’s face. “It’s hard to say I know her since a lot has changed. But with the little I know, she’s a gem- a rare one,” He paused, his expression unwavering. “I love Sarah, I want her, and if it means I’ve to study her like a course just to know every detail about her, I won’t mind.”Charles moved forward, standing beside Rebecca. “What do you think you’re doing?” He challenged.Harold crept his gaze from Rebecca’s body and shifted it to Charles. He locked e
“Don’t mess with her again, because I’ll do all it takes to make you regret it. Not for a while, but for the rest of your life.”Charles panted for a few seconds and immediately as a thought zoomed into his mind, he took his eyes off Harold and faced Sarah. “What’s going on here? I deserve an explanation, don’t I?” He talked, panting as he shook his pointed finger at Sarah. “Does this mean you’ve been cheating on me before the divorce? That’s infidelity, and you should pay me restitution.”Sandra scoffed. She thought Sarah wouldn’t want to talk, so she tried to speak for her, but Sarah took a step ahead of her to defend herself.Sarah’s eyes enlarged, and a soft chuckle escaped her mouth. “What?!” She exclaimed. “How dare you say that? Who cheated between you and me? Hun?”Charles widened his eyes as he joggled his head, pointing his finger at Sarah again. “You-” Charles wanted to speak with a raised voice again, but Harold interrupted him.Harold raised his left eyebrow. “Don’t disres
Sarah didn’t want to go home with Harold, but couldn’t do anything since Sandra insisted, and to avoid saying a word to Harold or having eye contact with him, she looked outside the window, feeling uncomfortable, with each minute feeling like an eternity.Sarah hissed. ‘I can’t wait to get out of the car already.’ She thought to herself and shook her head, hissing. She glanced backward at Sandra and Sandra beamed at her, but she reacted with a withered face and turned her neck to continue looking outside the car. ‘This is all your fault, Sandra.’‘Should I say something?’ A rhetorical question came up in Sandra’s mind. She hated a boring place and wished to break the silence in the car, but judging Sarah’s expression, she kept quiet, not wanting to annoy Sarah more.Harold gripped the steering wheel, pretending to fix his eyes on the road ahead of him while glimpsing at Sarah with a part of his eye. Harold’s eyes widened, and he gulped his saliva with an unclear sound fleeing his lips. “Hun!” He toned, staring at her face, unable to say a word even though a lot was running in his mind, but he couldn’t find a proper way to start.“I’m asking why you did what you did.” Sarah explained.“My mom-” Harold wanted to answer her, but Sarah interrupted.“My question isn’t about the past; I’m talking about what you did earlier at the courthouse.” She clarified.“Oh.” Harold shut up. He cast his face downward and squeezed his hands on his thighs, unable to say a word.“Why did you come? And why would you say all that in Rebecca and Charles’s present?” She questioned. “What if-”Before she could complete her statement, Harold raised his gaze. “Because I mean it,” he let out in simplicity.“I said it so they would know. I made my intention clear because I want you to be mine and I will trade anything, and even everything, to make it come true.” He confessed, his neck muscles tensed, the veins
Sarah snickered. “Didn’t you disappear?” She threw another question, which the response felt too big for Harold’s mouth to say, and since she wasn’t expecting a response, she proceeded. “You disappeared, Harold!”“You abandoned me. You left me to face your mother’s wrath all by myself, with no one to lean on to cry. Your mother took away my precious human. She killed my father and still didn’t let me be!”“My father lost his life because he loved me. Now, tell me, what’s your definition of love?”“Disappearing? Betraying?” She teased. She crossed her hands over her chest and looked into his eyes. “Harold, you claim you love me, you claim to care about me, but what did you do to fight for our love?”“Sarah…” Harold tried to find a space to tell his side of the story, but Sarah had gone wild already, and his voice added to the flame of rage boiling in her mind. She moved her head left and right in slow motion. “It’s not your fault, Harold; my stubbornness led me to that,” she made a poin
-A week and a few days later-Sarah stood at the roadside, phone pressed to her ear, trying to soothe Sandra's yelling. “Sandra, calm down. I’ll explain everything when I get back, please,” she said, her eyes half-closed in frustration. She knew Sandra wouldn’t listen, so she hung up and switched her phone to ‘do not disturb’ mode.Sarah had been secretly planning her next move. She had stumbled upon a job posted online for a waitress position at Food Lab, the city's most popular and biggest restaurant. Clara grabbed Rebecca’s arm and shook her body. “You heard her, don’t you?” She asked, instructing. “Apologize this instant, Rebecca! This is your only opportunity and I bet you won’t want to trade it for anything,”Seeing Rebecca not making any move, tears clouded in Clara’s voice and she lowered her voice, saying, “I bet you know the wrath this stubbornness is about to bring upon you,”She took her hand off Rebecca and weakly nodded her head twice. “This is our only chance of surviving and if we lose it, I won’t forgive you,” she threatened, slightly hitting herself on the chest. “I’ll disown and never forgive you.”A drop of tear fell from Clara’s eyes as she proceeded. “Upon all my struggles on you, Rebecca, is this how you want to repay me? You want me to keep struggling until my old age, right? You want me to lose hope, right?” She tried manipulating her. “Is this how you treat your mother, Rebecca?”Rebecca sniffed and tears rushed out of her eyes. She didn’t want to apologize.
“Yes!” Clara confirmed with a raised voice.Rebecca’s eyes widened, and she weakly took a step back. “No… no…” she uttered in a low voice, slowly shaking her head. “This can’t be…”She scanned Mia from head to toe and joggled her head, speaking with a treble voice. “This lady is impersonating Mia,” she objected. Mia was the only heiress to the second wealthiest in the city, but she never appear in a public place people couldn’t identify her.“Why will an heiress wear something like this?” Mia uttered, staring at Mia, disgusted.Rebecca snickered. “I mean, this dress is cheap and her bag isn’t even a designer one,” she pointed out. “No diamond ring, no special bracelet,”She elevated her shoulder, belittling, “common on, mom. Don’t let this idiot fool you. She can’t be the heiress. She doesn’t even have a physique for that.”Clara winked at Rebecca, cautioning her, but Rebecca turned a blind eye and continued pouring out her mind.“Mom, I think the best to do is call the police and arre
“What should I do?” Christine uttered, almost in a whisper.Sarah, Harold, Rebecca, and Charles shifted their attention to the speaker. With furrowed brows, they watched her walk closer in a long stride. Her heel resonated on the floor, and another lady walked behind her.Immediately as she arrived beside Sarah, Rebecca raised her eyebrows, challenging, “who are you to intervene in your conversation? Are you also a worker here? Why are you all so rude?”Christine’s eyes widened, and she looked at Rebecca. “How dare you?!” She challenged, but the lady stopped her with a raise of her hand. The lady chuckled. She authoritatively raised her brows and bent her neck to the left a little. “Me? Rude?” She uttered in disbelief.Rebecca joggled her head, her eyes enlarged, staring into Mia’s eyes. “Yes, you are,” she confirmed and took a step forward. “You’re rude, I repeat. You’re so rude. Is that too much for me to say? Hun,”She took another step forward, boasting, “Do you know who I am? Hun?
